Great place to bond and get filling southern breakfast food
    Eug K.

Every time I'm in the south, I crave three things, southern BBQ, waffle House, and Cracker Barrel. It's always good. I got biscuits and sausage, gravy, eggs, bacon, and grits, with a coffee. Our waitress Lily was friendly and competent, I tipped her 60% For being so sweet.

We needed breakfast before the Indoor Track meet and decided to go to Cracker Barrel. We were able to get a table right away. I ended up ordering the Momma's French Toast Breakfast, Sausage patties, Scrambled Eggs with American Cheese and a Hamburger Steak. Everything came out good. The service was good. The order didn't take long to come out. The store inside still has the retro feel. They haven't modernized this restaurant and store yet.

Was very happy with our breakfast here. Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite places to stop and eat on road trips. We were quickly seated and had joined their waitlist on their website before we got there. I always get the old timers breakfast and was not disappointed.

When we go on road trips, we're generally up and out at dawn, driving a couple of hours before stopping for breakfast. Cracker Barrel was our go-to restaurant, simply because there are so many of them on the highways we travel. Then came the pandemic, and we started buying breakfast biscuits at Bojangles or Chick Fil A to eat in the car. Yesterday we decided to stop. And .... memory serves, weren't Cracker Barrel's breakfasts better a few years ago? Rather than get the white gravy that came with the meal, I asked for a double order of grits. Usually creamy and delicious, my grits had a hard shell, like they'd been sitting out. They were tasteless. Biscuits were as good as I remembered, but they looked different. A step up was the coffee; it used to be weak, like drinking hot water, regardless of the Cracker Barrel we were in. I think corporate changed blends. I suspect we'll continue to periodically breakfast at Cracker Barrel. (When you want to make time, convenience counts.) But next trip I'll order grilled chicken on seared bread, my fall-back Cracker Barrel breakfast when I didn't want eggs. Perhaps that'll be as good as I remember it to be.

Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Chicken Breast w carrots and fried apples

Aside from the fact she brought us sweet tea instead of unsweetened, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. No problem though. She quickly remedied the situation by returning with unsweetened tea, and apologized for the mixup. I ordered the Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Chicken Breast. It was Wednesday's lunch special. The chicken was so tender I could cut it with my fork. The cheese and broccoli that crowned it was delicious! It was very good. For my sides I chose the sweet carrots and the fried apples (two of my favorites). The service was friendly, courteous, and prompt which is what Cracker Barrell is noted for (along with their country cooking). I would definitely recommend this place for a hearty meal stop along your highway travels.

Cracker Barrel, for those who don't know--is a road trip staple. That said, on a recent bachelors weekend trip up near Gainesville, a friend of mine had never experienced it, so we knew we had to take him. The food is always solid, the vibes are cool, there's a store--what more? One thing about this day, though, that was thoroughly disappointing: there was ONE item I told him he HAD to try--the hash brown casserole. And guess what, they were fresh out. Other than that. Hot coffee, well cooked food and friendly service. What's not to love?

Needless to say this the Metro diner truly surpassed my expectations. We walked in and were greeted immediately and asked if we would like to sit outside which is a covered area or indoors. We chose inside given it being a hot humid day and wanting that extra comfort. The vibe felt amazing with all the smiles and yes even though busy all the wait staff was hopping doing their business! We were seated and told about the specials and given the menu. I was unsure what I wanted because I think I could have eaten a little bit of everything! I did ask the waitress a couple of suggestions and one of them was the pancakes I had chosen. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day! How cool is that and rare. They had a chicken and waffle special that was actually half a chicken ( pieces ) fried with Belgium waffles, powdered sugar and sweet strawberry butter served with their signature sweet and spicy sauce. I'll be honest when I had seen someone else get their plate I was surprised. It looked absolutely incredible and well tremendous. On their specials they had banana pudding pancakes or waffles, this also sounded amazing. It had walnuts, butter and powdered sugar and definitely banana. I am most certainly glad that I chose this as it was incredibly. Super fluffy, flavorful and the banana was not overwhelming there was a perfect balance of flavors. There was a sauce on them that I assume was the banana pudding. It was light and just enough to not overpower the pancake itself. We had also ordered croissant French toast and my son absolutely loved them. They were crispy on the outside yet fluffy and flavorful with a fantastic texture topped with some powdered sugar. Some ordered hash browns, these were also delicious and homemade with a great texture and the portion like all the other dishes pretty large. We had all tried the biscuits and gravy. These too were delicious with such a nice balance of flavors. The biscuits indeed homemade. We were all very pleased with everything. Some eggs over easy and bacon cooked perfectly. The coffee honestly the best I've had in years. I'm a coffee drinker and I cannot figure this coffee was outstanding! I had four cups and wish for more ha ha. Best of all I must compliment the service. I have not been to a restaurant of any sort with such attentive service, quality service as we received here in years. The waitress kept refilling my coffee and water, brought my son more soda ( even a container to take his home ) asked everyone if they needed anything at appropriate times and was extremely kind and considerate. I will be back and I highly recommend the Metro Diner for a great meal, quality service and relaxed environment that you will enjoy. Entering it kind of reminds you of a farmhouse, I guess. Pretty standard furnishings and decoration for a country diner sort of place. Of course, we were there for breakfast, so the standard diner breakfast was on the menu. The full menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and a couple of barbecue dishes. If there were more screens mounted on the walls I would call it a sportsbar, but that isn't the case. Our orders were taken, and I had gone for eggs, hashbrowns, and corned beef because it was St Patty's Day. Realistically one of the few times that I have legitimately had food that was appropriate for the holiday. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time for a group of ten, so the kitchen and staff knew what they were doing. The food was fine... nothing to really shout out about, but also not bad. It was what I expected it to be, and that was good enough.

1906 Farmhouse 25405 W Newberry Rd, Newberry, FL 32669…read more ***SWILL ALERT*** Pulling up to the hitchin' post at the 1906 Farmhouse, all seemed well and fine. I don't mind themed restaurants (they can be fun). This place was designed to model the Farmhouse where the ranch hands gathered for meals before and after a long day of riding. I dug it. It gave off a warm, welcoming, one-of-the-family vibe. Kasey was my server for the meal and she was frowning before I asked one question. I placed an order for one Country Fried Steak with sides of Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese, along with some Strawberry Shortcake to round out the meal. I soon saw Cantankerous Kasey begrudgingly returning with my victuals. I don't understand this attitude. Am I supposed to be grateful she deigned to work here? Anyway, if any of you are curious like me, you may have often wondered what it was like to spend a day in jail. To that end, I admit, I got myself hauled off to the County Hoosegow. Wanting to make the most out of my tax dollars, I booked my stay to include lunch. The dry bologna sandwich you receive, along with the juice bag to wash it down, is something you try to forget. As I looked at the slop my trustee, Kasey, placed before me, I began to long for the county jail government issue bologna. The Country Fried Steak was fresh from the freezer and cooked with the precision of Stevie Wonder passing his behind-the-wheel driving test. I've been hit with hockey pucks softer than this garbage. The gravy was made in the Sysco factory and this had to be their bottom-grade slush. It was as tasty as flour and water. Wait. The sides were a step down from the entree, if that is possible. Just look at the pictures and tell me, does anything look appetizing? While I am not one to ever judge a book by its cover, as looks can be deceiving. In this case, they are not, and the adage 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is spot on. The Collard Greens were obviously from an industrial can. Hey, don't get me wrong, all restaurants use a food service, but you don't have to be cheap about it and try to finagle the dining population by using the lowest quality they have to offer. The Mac & Cheese looked more like something a dog regurgitated than actual food. It was dry and pasty on the palate--just the way it is not supposed to be. The Strawberry Shortcake is also food service, not unlike the stuff you got in high school, only worse. Kudos, 1906 Farmhouse, you officially serve Swill sans the fly. At least on this visit. The Big Boy says, "I wouldn't serve this SWILL to a dead dog."
