I think we were the only customers there. We ordered a seafood boil, salt and pepper frog legs and a lunch combo of chow mein and beef. The portion of these are really good for the price. I have come back here a few times since this review, and I don't think I have it enough credit the first time around. This place is consistently yummy! We usually eat family style so I've tasted a large number of dishes and I have yet to find one that I don't enjoy. The restaurant is known more as a Cajun seafood restaurant, but I thought the Chinese food items were great. Ordered the stir fry clams, salt & pepper pork chops and Szechuan beef, which were all delicious. However, I will say the Szechuan beef was not very spicy, as was indicated on the menu. The packaging was excellent as I was concerned about liquid leakage, particularly with the clams. Menu pricing is great and one of the most affordable for Chinese food in Bellevue. My family had a delectable dinner here during our vacation - what a local gem this is!! Family owned, great service, relaxing casual vibes, and the food is delicious!! It's like a Cajun-Asian fusion spot with everything from crab rangoons to gumbo. Very interesting menu and we loved all the items we tried. We were starving when we arrived so we ordered a bunch of stuff to try and I'll give you a word of warning- their portions are very generous so we couldn't finish it all haha! We tried the Honey Walnut Shrimp, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Garlic Noodles, Garlic Green Beans, Gumbo, and of course some Crab Rangoon (called "fried crab meat cheese wonton" on their menu lol but it's the same). We got a "large" side of rice thinking it would be just enough for the three of us and it was massive - enough for more like 5 people I'd say lol. The only thing I didn't like as much was the honey walnut shrimp - the flavor was great but the breading was very thick - but my son loved it so it's more of a personal preference. Their menu is quite varied - they also have a lot of seafood boil options. I was really surprised how empty it was given how great the food was - but it was snowing outside and cold and kind of early in the evening for dinner so that's probably why. Their prices are reasonable and they have lots of parking available. All the staff were friendly and genuinely excited for us to try their food. It's obvious that the staff are a family and it's very sweet - felt like I was having dinner at a friend's house. They also have tons of TVs all around so you don't ever get bored or lonely. Have been wanting to find a good seafood boil in Washington for a minute and I think I found my spot service is impeccable, there was a male server who handled the host stand and service. We came around 5 pm on a Thursday and it wasn't busy, I think we made it before the lunch rush as more people started coming when we were leaving. For those that have been to Crab Pot, they have several seafood boil options in addition to other seafood items like fish and chips, fried softshell crab, fried oysters, etc. in addition to this, they also have Americanized Chinese food. As others have mentioned the gloves that are provided make it almost impossible to eat the seafood boil. I decided to just go bare handed and washed my hands afterwards. We were curious about their traditional Chinese food choices so ordered the Cashew Chicken, choosing Fried Rice as our side dish, House Special Chow Mein and Egg Rolls. They were fine, tho nothing special. The Cashew Chicken included a lot of zucchini, which was a nice surprise, but the flavor was a bit funky & I don't remember experiencing this flavor with any Chinese food we've had before. My friend loves seafood and really likes Crawfish King in International District and so she invited me to try Crab Season with her, hoping for just as good of a seafood experience. I've never had seafood boil before and so I decided to give it a try with her. Crab Season is located next to the auto dealer parking lots in Eastgate and near Lil Jon's. This place has changed hands many times over the last fifteen years; before Crab Season there used to be a Japanese restaurant and a Chinese restaurant before that. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30pm on a weeknight and were the first ones there. The waiter seated us promptly and handed us menus. Crab Season has about 6 different combo options that graduate in price depending on the number and type of seafood items included. The combos with snow or king crab are obviously the more expensive dishes. You can also buy ala carte seafood items for market price. In addition to seafood, Crab Season serves a variety of dishes including chow mein (which really ended up being lo mein), fried rice, green beans, and some other meat dishes. My friend and I asked the waiter how many the smaller combos served and he said typically 1-2 people for combo 1 and about 2-3 people for combo 2 which has crawfish in addition to everything that combo 1 includes. After perusing the menu some more, my friend and I decided to share a SEAFOOD COMBO 1 and a SHRIMP CHOW MEIN. The combos come with a choice of flavoring: ragin cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter (+$1) and flavor fusion which is the first three mixed together. We chose flavor fusion. In total, we paid about $35 per person. They brought out our SHRIMP CHOW MEIN within fifteen minutes after ordering. As stated before, these noodles are really lo mein noodles and not traditional crunchy chow mein noodles (think Panda Express noodles). My friend enjoyed their chewy texture and said they reminded her of Din Tai Fung noodles. I personally thought they were just okay- at least they came with a few green beans, onions, and cabbage. A little while later, we got our seafood boil COMBO 1 in a big ceramic dish in addition to a metal bucket for shells, big plastic gloves, napkins, and plastic bibs. The COMBO 1 seafood boil had a lot of clams, four oysters, four slices of sausage, two whole red potatoes, two overcooked corn on the cob quarters, and six to eight shelled shrimp with heads all coated in a thick brown sauce. The platter was huge, but also just a lot of shells. My friend and I put on our gloves, which were slippery and way too big for our hands to get an actual grasp on the serving spoon, and got to work. The seafood was passable, but really just nondescript in my opinion. It was hard to taste the seafood because the brown sauce was super salty- so salty that it made the food unpleasant. The sauce had a slight kick to it from the Ragin Cajun flavoring mixed into it, but the high salt level was unbearable and prevented me from enjoying my food. I rarely drink a lot of water with my meals, but I had to constantly gulp down water to cleanse the salt. I almost wanted to just pour my water into the food to dilute the sauce. My other complaint was that the food was served warm, but not hot. The food got cold quickly too because the ceramic bowl did not retain the heat well. I was expecting hot pot boiling temperatures, but this just wasn't it. Service was good which is why I'm giving them three stars instead of two. We requested new gloves half way through our meal and they quickly fulfilled our request. They also made sure to give us their special discount of 10% off any seafood boil without us even asking. Lastly, the waitress was prompt to get my friend a takeout container, which was really just a plastic bag that they double bagged with another plastic bag to prevent leakage during transportation. As far as the atmosphere, there was no music playing in the background and so it was awkwardly quiet until another party or two came in later. They have a sea theme going on with large ripe nets and paintings of tropical fish and other sea creatures. However, the booths were old and much of the restaurant looked outdated. Overall, I was unimpressed with Crab Season and sadly won't be coming back. My friend will be back for the shrimp chow mein, but I think both of us will be passing on the seafood. Very reasonable prices for the items on the Chinese cuisine menu. THE THORNS: The building has been around a LONG time, and it kind of shows it. While clean, the dining room is definitely a bit 'long in the tooth' in terms of decor and overall condition. THE VERDICT: I think the biggest issue with this restaurant is it suffers from an identity crisis; is it a Cajun seafood boil place or a classic 'Americanized Chinese' restaurant? Came here again the other day to try their seafood boil. I ordered a lb of snow crab legs for $34 and a lb of head on shrimp for I think $13-14. I ordered it in the flavor fusion sauce, spice level hot. I also ordered a side of butter garlic in spice level medium. The boil came out quick and it came on a big plate which was different than the typical boil bags I'm used to. They also brought out a bucket to put your shells in which was nice. Another different thing is it didn't come with any Cajun salt and lime and the boils didn't come with any corn, potatoes, or sausage. You have to order on the side. The seafood was fresh. The fusion sauce tasted like one flavor instead of all the flavors. I personally liked the garlic butter better. I ate majority of the shrimp before I started biting into Sandy ones and that's when I had to stop eating them bc of the grit in my mouth. The service was great! We've been going to hundreds of Chinese restaurants in our life literally and just the other day somebody told me about Crab season conveniently close to our house and right off the freeway. Today for lunch, we had Jun as our waiter and we stopped for lunch with my brother and my wife. He had the Mongolian beef, which was excellent large portion. My wife had Kung pao chicken, which was the same with fresh vegetables and just excellent with quality chicken. I had the black pepper beef, which was also outstanding with quality pieces of beef, not like some of the places where you get second cut this premium. The portions are huge. The flavor is excellent and ironically they also had happy hour going on so I have the best cajun garlic fries I've ever had in my life for four dollars and salt and pepper chicken wings, which were incredibly, well done packed full of meat and super tasty. A couple behind us was having some incredible crab lobster extravaganza with snow, crab king, crab, lobster tail, etc. and we're gonna come back and try that amazing looking meal for a very good price. That's the other thing they're entrées are 1299 currently it's August 2024 most other Chinese restaurants around here are at least 1499 to 6099. I think everyone should be able to make money a very hard business but they charge fair prices and over deliver.
