Overall: A+ // 6 stars One of my most memorable meals in a long time. The flavors take me back to my Bangkok visit just a few months ago. The staff were very friendly, particularly Ford and Tee who both sparked natural conversations, which was much appreciated as a solo diner. I was super impressed that they managed to give me even Thai restaurant recs in New York where I am normally based! Highly recommend. Pad Thai - The best Pad Thai I've had in the states. The acidity, saline, and sweetness all come through immensely bold as intended by the Thai flavor palette. Before I even took the first bite, I knew I was in for an authentic treat. When they serve Pad Thai with a spoon of sugar, that's when you know. The banana blossom is also a smart pairing, as its light and grassy to sharply contrast those bold flavors. Lemonade - Beautiful drink with expert craftmanship creating that perfect gradient of clear lemonade to the deep purple of the butterfly pea. Fern Thai is officially our new go-to Thai spot! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is a vibe, the service is friendly, and the food is super delish![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came with a bigger group and ordered a spread consisting of: Moo Hong, Crab Fried Rice, Crispy Garlic Chicken, Green Curry, and Holy Basil. Every single dish was a hit- super flavorful and homey! My personal favs were the Holy Basil and the Green Curry. Note: None of the a la carte dishes come with rice, so be sure to order a side of it or opt for a shared fried rice dish like us.
Fern Thai is one of my go-to's for when folks need a recommendation for Thai food; it's just consistently good, but they do get fairly busy especially when the weather's nice. Their menu has most of the classics, but it's fairly comprehensive with some unique options for the more adventurous as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most recently, I was able to walk in at 7:30 PM on a weekday with a group of 5, but we definitely snagged the only available table on the patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My go-to's are the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Massaman Lamb Shank. Their version of Pineapple Fried Rice has a super strong curry flavor to balance against the sweetness of the pineapple, which I love. It's also definitely cooked on high heat so that it almost tastes smoky / crispy on the best way. The Massaman Lamb Shank is fall apart tender in an uber savory gravy. The roti isn't the flakiest version I've ever had, but it got a good crisp on the outside and is a nice carby vehicle to transport sauce to your mouth.
I truly believe this is the best Thai restaurant I've ever tried. Each and every menu item is so excellently executed and seasoned. I've been here multiple times trying a variety of dishes and they are all amazing. This time I tried a fried enoki dish with the most delicious red sauce/stew. It was so tangy and savory at the same time. Amazing! The duck curry is also always good and fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service and location are great as well, in the heart of Bellevue downtown with tons of things are so.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend. I always want to come here while visiting Washington.
I visited this restaurant for the second time this past week and my rating is the same as my first visit. It wasn't bad but wasn't great or memorable either. My daughter wanted me to try the crispy garlic chicken so we ordered that and the happy hour veggie egg rolls. The egg rolls were OK. They came out hot and crispy on the outside but the filling was a little mushy and soft. Somewhat flavorless so had to use the accompanying sauce to eat it. Next up was the crispy garlic chicken. It had a somewhat "tangy" taste to it that I didn't really care for. I'm not really sure how else to describe it. I've never had a crispy garlic chicken with that flavor profile. I could also taste a hint of fish sauce which I know is authentic but sometimes it's off-putting for me. The portion amount was decent though and my daughter and I were able to share the dish. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute restaurant, loved the decor, the service was attentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I just found the food mediocre and for that reason, I probably would not visit again.
The pad see ewe was the best I've had in a very long time. It was chewy, and didn't have too much oil in it. The flavor was very balanced too. We got level 4 spice and it was perfect. The roast duck curry had a good flavor to it, but the lychee and apples in it definitely threw me off. I couldn't tell if I liked it or not, but it was definitely different.
Food is great! Service and seating is a little slow and disorganized, but the food makes up for it. Always packed!

I recommend parking at Bellevue Square Mall and walking over it's about a 10-minute walk. You can also try finding street parking near the downtown park area. I've been here multiple times, both with my family and for a company lunch, and I've absolutely loved it every single time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is super cute and definitely on the smaller side. They have both indoor seating and an outdoor patio, and I highly recommend sitting outside if the weather is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, the inside is also really charming decked out with a cute aesthetic, cozy colors, and the sweetest little tablecloths on each table. I love the overall atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For food, I highly recommend getting their Pad Thai. It's beautifully plated, super flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The prices are a bit on the higher side around $20 per dish but it's good quality for what you're getting. I do wish the portions were slightly bigger, but the dishes are definitely shareable if you order a few plates. Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping by The Spice if you're looking for Thai food in Bellevue. Don't forget to order the crab rangoons as an appetizer, they're delicious. Fern Thai on Main has been around for a long time. It has several sister restaurants including Tem Sib and Sisi Kay. My Thai friend thought it was pretty authentic for Thai food and so I decided to go for dinner with another on a rainy weekday to celebrate their recent job offer. My friend and I arrived at around 6pm and were seated immediately. We decided to share the PAD THAI BORAN ($19.95) with chicken and the PANANG NEAU YANG ($21.95) with a side of white rice. With tax and tip, the bill came to $57, which is definitely on the high end for Thai food, even in Bellevue. The PAD THAI BORAN is their signature dish, according to many reviewers. It has egg with banana blossom and ground peanuts. My friend and I honestly weren't sure if we were supposed to eat the blossom or not, but we tried it. It tasted like a raw onion/celery and so we left it alone after taking a bite. However, I will say that this Pad Thai is the BEST PAD THAI I've ever had and very different from what many other Thai restaurants serve. Fern's Pad Thai sauce is savory, sweet, and slightly umami with an almost creamy texture. Portion sizes were generous too and so I highly recommend giving their Pad Thai a try if you go! The PANANG NEAU YANG was also fantastic. It has grilled flat iron steak in panang curry sauce and kaffir lime zest. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tender and juicy. It was well-marinated in a sweet and savory sauce and was amazing with the creamy curry- you could definitely taste the lemon grass and other spices! We got two star spice level and the heat level was right on point. Compared to other panang curries I've had, I was surprised that this was more yellow in color than red, but it was very tasty. I wish it had more veggies in it, but I loved the dish otherwise. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is modern and trendy. They have a bar and plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Only downside is the parking as they do not have a lot - it's street parking only or you can walk from the park.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was decent. Our waitress came by several times to fill our waters and check in on us. They also were in no rush for us to leave, but then again, it took them a while for them to notice and to bring us a bill and boxes. Overall, if prices weren't so high, I would probably give them 5 stars. I just think $20 for noodles is too high of a price point and so this will only be an occasional dining spot for me. 5/5 for food, 4/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere
Eh, would not come here again. Not because I had a negative experience but because nothing seemed particularly special to me. Decent and probably solid option if you're in the area Pros: -[[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean establishment. I liked the aesthetic. Lots of seating[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] -They have seasonal drinks and menu items -Service was fine -Pad See Ewe was flavorful -Serving sizes good Cons: -Crab rangoon wrapper was not good. Felt like they were air fried rather than actually deep fried. Filling was good but not a lot. $13 for 6 pieces is practically a robbery -Crispy garlic chicken was ok. I wouldn't say it was bad but I've had better. It also didn't stay crispy for long under the sauce
I love this place! The price is reasonable and there's a cute side patio. The portions are pretty big and their special cocktails are delicious. The servers are super nice and many actual Thai employees.
Been coming here since I moved in the area 6 years ago. Excellent food and excellent service.

As someone who loves Thai food and cooks it from scratch at home, my bar for Thai restaurants is extremely high--most places just don't feel worth the money. Fern Thai is one of the rare exceptions. Everything I've ordered here has been phenomenal, making it my absolute go-to spot to take friends and family for a guaranteed great meal. The Highlights: * great ambiance * Pad Thai: At most restaurants, Pad Thai feels like a waste of money, but here it is worth every single penny. * Gai Tod Hat Yai: An all-time favorite dish! You get a deep-fried half chicken served with flaky roti, panang curry sauce, sweet chili sauce, and a fresh cucumber salad on the side. (Note: The chicken breast can occasionally have its tender vs. slightly tougher days, but the flavors overall are unbeatable). * Beef Pad See Ew: Generous with the protein and broccoli, unlike other spots that give you 95% noodles. * Crab Fried Rice: Phenomenal execution with incredible, smoky wok hei. * * * Specialty Seafood Dishes: Highly recommend ordering off their specialty menu. The seafood plates are packed with crazy amounts of umami and have the perfect rich saltiness when paired with rice. Only lowlight: as for any good restaurants in greater seattle area, the wait can be long. I'd suggest avoiding peak time. I try to order something new every time I visit because every dish delivers. Basil fried rice was yum (and lowkey two portions), I got it a medium spicy (level 3) and it wasn't spicy at all. Thai tea wasn't very sweet, very milk like honestly. Service was good and luckily no wait if you go during an off time on the weekends (2 pm or so). I tried reheating my fried rice and it was very oily tho so keep that in mind when thinking about leftovers! read more

Review is only for the take out experience. We ordered a chicken Tom yum soup and tofu pad Thai. When ordering we were asked if if wanted the tofu fried or steamed and despite asking for it steamed, we got fried tofu. I was too hungry to go and complain, so I just ate it. The spice level on the soup was good - this was truly a flavorful dish. The pad Thai was average and a spice level 4 (with 5 being the highest) didn't really get us a spicy dish. To add to my it, the server handing us our food had to be asked for napkins, plastic utensils and plastic takeout containers repeatedly and separately even when we informed them that we were going to sit outside and eat our food. The tab indicated that the server was a trainee so maybe that explained the strange interaction. The food was flavorful and I'd come here maybe to enjoy a sit down dining experience, but the service we experienced was sadly sub-par. read more

Food was great! Not too expensive for the size too. The crab rangoons were a bit pricy though. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside on a pretty hot day, but the patio was shaded so not too bad![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was relatively quick for how busy the restaurant was as well, and very nice. Good vegetarian options! read more

I just love Fern Thai, I've been going here for years now and it doesn't disappoint. My favorites, in no order: - hat Yai mini wings - chicken larb salad - kow soi - roti - Panang Neau Yang - pad see ew - pad khee mao - pla manow I really can't stand overly sweet food, and all of those dishes are really vibrant and flavorful and not too sweet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior of the restaurant is clean as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the service is always nice and friendly. For takeout and delivery, the food is always ready quickly and packed nicely. I'm really happy to have such a delicious restaurant so close to my house. read more

Service was professional, quick and friendly. Cute location on Main Street in downtown Bellevue. Great energy and nice outdoor seating situation! The food was also great. We got the pad thai (4/5), pad kee mao (4.5/5), and the sweet and sour chicken (3.5/5). All were flavorful and would get again! FYI on weekdays they close from 3-4pm but stop seating before 2:30. We got unlucky and came during this time but they were kind enough to let us order to go and sit on their patio to eat without service - which we appreciated. If you're looking for some great Thai food, then Fern Thai on Main is a place you should try! The ambience is pretty and service was pretty quick too. Located in Bellevue Old Town, it's easy to get there too. Coming to the food, everything was delicious. But my favorites were the pineapple fried rice and spring Rolls. So good! The green curry had a subtle flavor to it and the pad Kee Mao was great too. Requested for everything without meat and the food was fantastic. Only thing was that the curry came without the rice. But I'm definitely coming back for the pineapple fried rice! read more
My boyfriend and I had a quick errand to do in Bellevue and decided to bring our fur babies with us as it was really hot and we wanted to walk them at the park. Additionally, I know Bellevue has a lot of pet friendly outdoor patios and Fern Thai on Main has been on my bucket list for a few years now so I knew this was the perfect opportunity. When we arrived at the restaurant, it looked like they were doing well and everyone else had the same thought with dining outdoors to enjoy the nice weather or to have someone to go with their fur baby. My boyfriend went inside to talk with a host as there is a sign that says to speak with a host to be seated on their outdoor patio. It took some time as it seems pretty busy but we didn't mind and once the host had time, she immediately grabbed menus and showed us to our table. We ordered a Thai iced tea, Pad See Ew (chicken, 1 star), roast duck curry (5 stars) and a side of jasmine rice. We got the Thai iced tea not too long after ordering and it was just the perfect amount of sweetness. I do feel like they do a huge amount of ice though, and it's already in a smaller glass. I'm slightly disappointed that the outdoor and indoor experiences seem very different. I see the glasses from other reviewers from the inside dining seem much more pleasing while the outdoor seemed like an afterthought. Additionally, our waiter was very awkward and didn't provide much service. He never came to check on us or refill our waters. The presentation of food was very nice for all the dishes, even the rice bowl was gorgeous. My boyfriend gave his pad see ew a 9/10 which is pretty high but he said he wished it had more of the wok hei taste that pad see ew is supposed to have and he personally wasn't a fan of the greens they used. I was happy with my roast duck curry but they don't seem to know how to make things spicy as I asked for a 5 star spicy level but barely felt anything, but I couldn't even mention it to the waiter cause he never came by. I think I would try them out again in the future but there are definitely better Thai restaurants around Bellevue that provides a better dining experience than Fern Thai on Main. read more

Amazing service - water was kept filled and waitresses were super polite and helpful. Ordered the Pad Kee Mao and was pretty happy with my drunken noodles. Would say the cost was a fair bit more than what you could do at other places but it overall wasn't the worst. We ordered delivery to my friend's house as I was visiting from LA. Now mind you, I live very near Thai Town which is the only officially recognized one in the US. I love Thai food and eat it often. So my expectations were not too high. We ordered Duck Curry, Tom Yum, some fresh rolls and a tofu fried rice. The duck curry was VERY good and had some lychee (?) and cherry tomatoes in it. Flavorful and good, this was my favorite dish. The fried rice had nice added texture with cashews and pineapple along with the satisfyingly meaty tofu. Really quite good. Raisins were a surprising ingredient for me but I didn't necessarily dislike their presence. The Tom Yum with shrimp was fine and sufficiently spicy. The fresh rolls were also fine and tasted freshly made. Tasty with the peanut dipping sauce but still pretty basic as most fresh rolls are. White rice was perfectly cooked. All in all, this was a very pleasant surprise. I'd eat here twice a month if I lived nearby. 8/10 read more

Amazing! Fern Thai is so well decorated and welcoming. It's aesthetically pleasing and also has great food and service. I'll definitely make my return! I love how you can choose your spice level and add it yourself based on your preference (spice comes on the side!) The plum sauce for the Spring Rolls (4ct) was the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Simple Happy Hour menu as well. Dishes on and off deal were reasonably priced for the area. Definitely stop in for a nice dinner with friends or family! read more

Cute little Thai spot, inside is super adorbs! Loved the ambiance! Came here on a Monday afternoon, we were seated right away & it was pretty empty since we beat the lunchtime rush. There was a sign that states a 90 min limit for groups 6 and below. I am guessing this is because this restaurant is quite small. Soooooooo something to point out because it just has to be said, when we were seated - our table was not balanced so it was quite wobbly. The host took note of this immediately and he had something prepared to fix it. Now that's customer service! Let's hear it for NO WOBBLY TABLES! lol. Okay, I'm done. For my drink I ordered a Thai Iced Tea - yums as usual. For my food, I ordered the Tofu Pad See Ew - 1 star spice - it was good but it tasted a bit burnt. Don't get me wrong, it tasted good - just didn't taste how it usually does - this could be a part of the Fern recipe. Overall, it's a cute lunch spot that I would definitely go to again. My friends and I had planned to spend the evening in Bellevue, enjoying Snowflake Lane and grabbing dinner afterward. We were concerned that Fern Thai on Main would be crowded after the parade, especially since they don't accept reservations from Friday to Sunday. However, we managed to arrive just before the rush! The parade wrapped up around 7:20PM, and by 7:45PM, we were at Fern Thai on Main. Our group of four walked in and was seated immediately. The restaurant's interior is beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for a casual, intimate dining experience. It's ideal for smaller groups, and I wouldn't recommend bringing more than six people. I ordered the Neau Yang E-Sarn, a grilled marinated flat iron steak served with jaew dipping sauce and sticky rice, paired with a refreshing Fresh Lychee Lemonade. The dish was delicious, though I wished the portion had been a bit larger, as it seemed smaller compared to what my friends had ordered. read more

Checked out Fern Thai on Main with a group for dinner. We didn't have reservations, it was a 20 minute wait for dining. The owner/hostess offered us the bar to grab a drink while we waited for our table. By the time we got our drinks and paid, our table was ready. For drinks, we ordered Thai ice tea, lychee martini, Bangkok Galaxy, and basil lychee lemon drop. Drinks were strong and on point, the Bangkok Galaxy is definitely on the sour side. For dinner, we did family style: Moo Ping - very flavorful. Can taste the char from the grilling Pineapple beef fried rice - we were expecting the rice to be in a pineapple. Would probably skip the rice next time. It was doused with a lot of soy sauce. Kow Soi - perfect - no complaints. Pad See Ewe - perfect - no complaints. Crispy Garlic Chicken - very flavorful. Not too crispy as the chicken is coated with the sauce. Definitely need a side of rice to balance out the flavors. Kana Moo Krob - crispy pork belly was caramelized and very flavorful. Definitely good to share. Definitely need a side of rice to balance out the flavors. Side of jasmine rice - entrees do not come with a side of rice. You have to add it to your order. As you probably already know if you've researched this place at all, it is very nice and the ambiance is sublime! With the more upscale/trendy vibe comes a slightly higher price point than you may find with most Thai places. Everything on this visit went well; our server was attentive, the food and drinks tasted good, and as aforementioned, the atmosphere was nice. While these critiques may be hypercritical, I only have two not-so-positive things to say. First, the restaurant is on a road with very limited street parking and it seems that there is a constant stream of traffic, making it a nightmare for bad parallel parkers like myself. Second, two of us at my table ordered rice with our entrees, and in an attempt to save dishes, they gave one larger pot of rice for us to share. While this doesn't seem like a glaring issue, it just gets awkward sometimes sharing things and rationing equally. Overall, great experience and I recommend that you try it! read more

I enjoyed the upscale dining vibes of this restaurant. It was a cute space for a date night, but personally I don't think the food lived up in comparison. We got three dishes to share: Pad Kee Mao, Panang Curry, and the Holy Basil. Out of the three, the Holy Basil was the best one. Panang Curry: I don't know if they put shrimp paste in the panang curry, but I thought it smelled strongly of it and that made it a bit hard to eat. Also, it had steak in it that we found too chewy because it was well-done instead of medium rare. Pad Kee Mao: It was smoky like it should be, but I felt it still lacked flavor compared to other places I've tried. Holy Basil: Was a bit salty, but perfect to eat with rice. I think the best thing we were served was the Lychee Lemonade which I'm pretty sure is just lychee syrup with lemonade, but it was delicious. The service we received was also good, but I think if you're look for upscale Thai food at a similar price point you should just go to Bai Tong instead. read more
I went here to celebrate a friend's birthday, and we waited a little bit for a table of about 6 people. This is my second time visiting here, and the first was a great one where I sat in an area that had a window above the ceiling and I sat on couches with pillows. This time I sat in a regular big table near the front entrance. I got a regular beef pad see ew with 4-star spice. Not much to say here but it's a nice size and has great taste at a decent price. They have a ton of other things on the menu that I'd like to try the next time I come here! read more

Delicious Thai food and the certain dishes reminded me of home cooked Thai food I use to experience. If you like authentic papaya salad get the poo play rah that's the real authentic version. The papaya salad I got this time lacked that fishy and tangyiness I didn't realize there was two different types.
