i did not quite like it. called the cozy corner, but it did not feel cozy at all inside.. decor is desperately wanting. i like greasy spoons, i love diners with character, cuz it shows in their food. crisp bacon, hash, oj (canned, or better, fresh), eggs cooked properly in a variety of ways, some variety of toast, smuckers jelly, a dish of the day, and i'm a happy camper. my friend had their sausage gravy over biscuits with a side of hash, and the gravy was not good at all. it lacked seasoning, and was way too gummy. our hash browns were not crispy enough on the side. when we commented on this to the cashier, she told us that we could have asked for crispier hash. fair enough, but one would have expected more of a golden brown, crisp skin to it without having to ask. i had the 5 egg omelet. good, filling, greasy cheesey in the inside.. it satisfied, but did not delight. pancakes were ok, syrup was awful, just awful. what can i say? meh food. dessert display case definitely will not inspire you to taste their cakes or pies, which are clearly store bought (still in their plastic cases), with their frosting smashed onto the sides. It looked very sad. our waitress was a 16 year old girl who was really pleasant and attentive, but she called my 70+ year old friend "hon". Whaaa? Hon, I don't think you should be calling ladies old enough to be your grandma "hon", or "sugar" like you're some tired old waitress whose been waiting tables for the past 30 years. It just rubbed me the wrong way i guess. overall verdict? fairly good food for good prices. You know you probably won't be returning anytime soon when the thought of denny's excites you more than this place. tragic! read more

I'm a regular at the Cloverleaf, just down the street a mile to the West. Decided to check Cozy Table out, so I've been there three times in the past two weeks. Good food. Good waitresses. Seating so-so; you will be a part of the conversation of the people sitting next to you in about half the restaurant. But the hostess/manager/whatever. How can it be that all three times I've been there, I've been waiting on her when I wanted to be seated, and then again, when I was ready to pay? You can't make any mistake about it: you are not her priority. She has other things to do than seat you or take your money. You will wait. She will walk by you several times as you stand by the sign saying please wait to be seated. She will do work behind her counter while you stand by the sign saying please wait to be seated. She has important things to do that preclude her giving you her attention: this will be clear to you. All three times I've been there. Weird. So this morning, when she welcomed me and continued to do her work behind the counter, I left and just had my first taste of the effort at breakfast Taco Bell is making. Meh. This is a very tired restaurant. Had lunch which was a very dry patty melt, with 3 pickles on the side sitting on old lettuce. Fries had a seasoned coating . No ketchup on the table or mayo. Waitress never came back to check on me or the food or refill my water. Maybe breakfast would have been a better option. read more

While the food was pretty decent, what marred our experience were the waiters and the fly that was resting in my partner's food. The waitress, instead of demonstrating basic courtesy, curtly asked her what she'd like to do about it, and when another woman came by later and apologized, she got testy and said that there was no explanation for what happened. While stuff like that does happen, an attitude like that is not acceptable, no matter how bad your day is going. They comped her meal, which was fine in the end, but we were not impressed with the treatment, which also included unwrapped silverware from another table being thrust at me (not hyperbole) for my food. Their attitude came across at being mad at us for finding a bug in our food, and treating us badly because of their issues. It was also far pricier than I expected - I shouldn't have to pay 3 dollars for a single glass of orange juice. Like I said, decent enough food, but the treatment we received made the experience terrible. There are so many better places in town that you could hit up. read more

In Bloomington's lower west side, just off of 3rd street between Cashland and Autozone, sits a quaint, square building lined with large glass windows and bordered with red-brick. In contrast to the brisk December air, the temperature inside is a comfortable 72 degrees and you'll find Christmas ornaments hung from the ceiling and stockings inside the table booth walls. Each booth even has its own coat hangers, so you can sit without awkwardly stuffing your coat to the side. Its a wonder they call this local favorite, The Cozy Table. If you come during peak hours, typically Sunday's from 9am - 12pm, there is no need to worry. This staff of middle aged, veteran waitresses has been serving here since before you were born, and wouldn't flinch if the restaurant turned into a combat zone. They also notice the smallest of cues, for instance - I turned my coffee mug right side up, (they are initially set face down), and the waitress immediately asked if I wanted coffee. She came back throughout the meal to refill as needed. After you order, the hand-written check is placed on the table for you to pay up front whenever you feel like leaving. These gals are efficient but not rude; supportive but not annoying. I came here ten minutes after chowing down on McDonald's breakfast, and the food was still fucking good. The menu has a wide selection of Belgian waffles, eggs, omelets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, soups, and Panini sandwiches. The Belgian waffles are topped delicately with whipped cream and luscious strawberries, while the biscuits and gravy are savory, dense, and down right American. All in all, The Cozy Table is like a Tom Cruise movie, not Oscar material, but definitely satiating and slightly better than you were expecting. read more

Dirty. Wife would not use restroom because of how dirty it was. Overall cleanliness of the store was poor. From the window sills to the nasty tables, everything was covered in grease and/or dirt from the floor to the ceiling. The food was overpriced for the quality. The eggs tasted like water, the bacon tasted like pure grease, the hash browns tasted like grease and were soggy with very little flavor. We also found a hair in the order of pancakes. At this point in time we are ready to just leave and we have just received our food. The hair situation was brought to the manager's attention. Rather than apologizing, she charged us for the two items we had eaten. NEVER DID THEY APOLOGIZE FOR THE HAIR. We are regulars at the Village Inn in Ellettsville and can promise you that is where you should go. Do not waste your time with The Cozy Table. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday and they were slammed. Small place. The food was fine and the pricing was very fair. Mainly locals in there for sure. The waitresses were hustling and working there tails off, hats off to them. The place needs to be a bit cleaner, but I get it they were really busy. Food was ok. I had some eggs, pancakes and bacon. Eggs were ice cold and the pancakes were warm. Again, nice local place, but not someplace I would go out of my way again to go too. There biggest challenge is people are piling in and clogging the main doorway and people are trying to pay for there meals and get out. Traffic flow needs to be improved. read more

I love this place. It's not the best food in Bloomington, but it's darned good, and the coffee is excellent, as is the service. It's not a place for food snobs; you have to take it for what it is--a comfort food diner frequented mainly by locals. I've tried a little bit of everything there, and I've never been dissatisfied. The spanakopita is excellent, as is the fish sandwich. This is my go-to place when I'm in town. It's recently been redone and looks a lot better. read more

Based on the breakfast served to me I am not sure why this restaurant is not rated lower. The eggs, sausage and pancakes were all stone cold though cooked properly. The apples for the pancakes are in a thick glaze--definitely tastes like from a can. The women's bathroom was dirty and old. The kitchen area is visible and also looked sort of disgusting. Owner/manager is terrible. When I say terrible, I don't simply mean at her job (albeit true), I would extend this to a human level. Not only did she cause a domestic scene with a twelve year old waitress in the middle of the dining room ("apparently you can't count!!! LISTEN. TO. ME!!!"), when I attempted to explain to our new server that it's not exactly savory for paying customers to be brought into restaurant operations issues, rather than coming to apologize to our table, she instead continued to huff around the restaurant in a total fluster as if she was responsible for whether or not we were bombing Syria. When she overheard say to my partner that I was tempted to leave, she accosted our table NOT with an apology l, but rather a flippant explanation for why she HAD to speak to her that way because she had already told her which tables were hers. Lady, I'm a therapist by day. I don't need to work weekend shifts in your restaurant explaining the delicacies of interpersonal business relationships. You have a kitchen. It's for employees. Talk to them there. The dining room is...wait for it... FOR DINING. I wouldn't go back if I was starving. Anyone who will belittle a staff member and then argue with a patron over their deplorable management skills does not deserve my dollar. I'll find another greasy spoon. read more

Best breakfast in Bloomington. As a student I didn't spend much time eating outside kirkwood/campus until I found cozy table. Only place I know of that offers skillets in bloomington! Also fairly priced. Only wish it was closer and just as a suggestion adding avocado to menu would be great :) read more

There is no other place in town that I go for omelettes! They are the best! These omelettes are hearty and generous. The prices at the Cozy Table are very good for a normal budget. :O) The mom & pop atmosphere is endearing, and the restaurant itself is bright due to all of the windows. I am a vegetarian & hubby a meat eater- the Cozy Table has something for everyone- but try to beat the Sunday after church crowds... read more

This place is the worst. I got an omelet and bacon and they didn't tell me there would be $2.49 charge for the bacon. It ended up costing me over $10 for an omelet. I ate there for the first time this last week, had a good experience. Decent food, nice waitress, reasonably priced. So I ate there again this morning. Ordered the same thing--a ham and cheese omelet. I took a bite and noticed a lot of crunching, thought I must have gotten some hashbrowns in with it that were really done. Took another bite, even more crunching. Saw a strange white chunk in the middle of the omelet, and realized there were egg shells all over in it--not little pieces, but HUGE pieces the size of a quarter. The cook had literally tossed the egg shell of at least one egg (probably two) into the eggs on the grilled and cooked it up with the rest of my omelet. He certainly wasn't paying attention to what he was doing or he really didn't care, but there is NO WAY he wouldn't have noticed them. So I flag down the waitress and she brings me a new omelet. I eat a bite, still feel like its crunching a bit when I chew, but thought "it has to be my imagination". Got a few more bites in and kept sensing a crunching--not as bad as the first time (which felt like I was eating a tortilla chip), but still noticeable. Gross, I know, but I spit out the crunchy part, and sure enough, there was egg shell in it as well. I flag down the waitress again and she said "oh, well I'll let the cook know". I assumed they were going to cook yet another one, or discount my tab or *something*, but no one came. I look at waitress after waitress, bus boy, hostess, all with that "I need something" look and not a single one stopped. My waitress knew I wasn't eating, wasn't moving, clearly waiting. So after about 10-15 min, I flag her down again and said "didn't you say someone would be out to speak with me?" She replied "no, I said I would let the cook know" and walked off. I thought "know what? Am I supposed to keep eating the shell filled omelet? Wait for another? Wait to speak to someone? What???" I finally flagged down the bus boy and asked to speak to the manager. The cook/owner came out about another 5 min later and sat down. I explained what had happened and pointed to the very large egg shell on my plate, and he said "yeah and we cooked you a new one". I said yes, but it has egg shells as well. I had put my leftover hashbrowns and french toast in a to-go container and he just opened it up without asking, saw the contents, and said "if you take this to go, you have to pay for the whole omelet". I looked at him puzzled and said "what does that have to do with it?" He repeated it again in a dismissive tone like I was trying to cheat him out of something. I responded "I'm being charged for the omelet, so why again can't I take home the rest that doesn't have egg shells in it?" He then said "I won't charge you for the omelet but if you take this to go, you have to pay for the whole thing." I responded "WOW! Then I won't be eating here again." And I then walked out. He showed absolutely no concern that he served me two omelettes in a row that had egg shells in it. He didn't apologize once for it, nor for me having to wait a full 25-30 min just to get the issue resolved. Instead, he acted like I had inconvenienced him, cost him money in having to recook an omelet, and was just complaining for no reason. The proof was on the table I wasn't making it up. And it is one thing if it is a rude person on the waitstaff--a person rushing could be perceived as being rude by some, or merely in a hurry by another. And even if rude, you won't get sick over it. But when your food isn't cooked properly, that's an entirely different story. If the cook doesn't notice that he threw the entire egg shell into your eggs after he cracked them open and then still doesn't notice giant egg shells sitting in your omelet as it cooks, who knows what else he isn't noticing he's putting in your food (or how he's failing to keep an eye on what he is cooking). I will NEVER, EVER eat there again--RUDE owner and even if the food was great/cheap, it's not worth the risk of getting sick. read more

You got to love this place. The perfect little diner with a touch of Greek to it. Their breakfast is great, their menu as thick as a phone book and the portion size on just about anything you order could feed a family of four for a week. I can't overstate this. This is one of the few isolated places where I actually end up having to take food home because I can't finish it. The skillets for example are mounds of hashbrowns eggs and veggies. AND they come with your choice of toast or pancakes (does anyone ever get toast?). AND they threw in a free rice pudding because the food was supposedly late (it wasn't). Also the prices are incredibly cheap! Finally, the service is excellent. The waitresses are all friendly and very helpful. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place except for the fact that I have to drive all the way across town to get there. Not fancy, just perfect. read more
