What a hidden gem ! Our restaurant this month was @scenicviewrestaurant. We went for a classic brunch - featuring a mimosa pitcher. I got one of their giant pancakes and some scrambled eggs. I can't describe it accurately - but it was the creamiest, fluffiest pancake I've ever had. Possibly my new btown pancake stop ! My husband got the biscuits in gravy and the moment his plate was sat down, I could smell the sausage. He said it was delicious so I had to confirm - it was ! Becky and I snuck away downstate to this little restaurant that one of our friends had recommended. BEAUTIFUL drive, Beautiful view, and BEAUTIFUL company... !!! Becky loved the red trees around the lake, but still let me take the seat with the window view for breakfast.. She's a wonderful gal! The menu was small, which was good, because, I forgot my reading glasses! I ordered the Biscuits &Gravy but Becky got the Classic egg Breakfast, with Eggs, Potatoes, Toast and Sauaage. The ratio of Gravy to my Buiscuts could use improvement, but the taste was pretty good. Becky loves a good breakfast Potatoe and she said "The Potatoes we're the Star of the Show!!". I thought Becky sitting in front of that gorgeous view was the star of the show.. hahaha!!!! OK food and good potatoes with a stunning view. We went here about 3 years ago and had the BEST chorizo biscuits and gravy which is why i gave it 3 stars. Perfect biscuit and gravy was phenomenal. This time though not so great. Took a while to get the food which is fine if what we got was worth the wait. Tomato is supposed to be grilled, i got one piece of bacon on the whole sandwhich, egg overdone no cheese. The potatoes were cheap quality frozen. Food was cold when we got it and could have made something way better at home. Waste of money and time we sat for about 2 hours just waiting the whole time. My daughter and I went to Scenic View's brunch for Mother's Day. We both chose the prime rib sandwich. It was delicious, tender, juicy and well seasoned. Like everywhere else, they seemed short staffed and it took us 50 minutes to get our meal. I ordered a salad which never came. Don't come for the coffee. The view is very nice, beautiful greenery and Lake Monroe. Staff was friendly. I would love to return when it's not Mother's Day and graduation season. read more

Lives up to its name! Parking is decent if you get there before 10am. After that the place fills up. It is a bit small and cramped but lovely windows, bar and atmosphere! Our waitress Amanda was amazing! I recommend the Crab Cake Benedict! read more

Scenic View is worth the drive for Sunday brunch, but don't go when it's hot out because the AC doesn't work. Generally the food is excellent, albeit a bit slow to arrive. Service is often mediocre, you might get lucky and get a waitress that is friendly, but there's only a few of them. The restaurant inside is outdated and horribly laid out, but the patio is nice and updated. Go for the view, stay for the food, accept the inadequacies. read more

The restaurant was amazing! My boyfriend and I went here for a sweet Valentines brunch and we were not disappointed. Absolutely gorgeous view, wonderful and friendly service, AMAZING food. Beautiful overlook view just outside of Bloomington. Due to the staffing shortages of Covid, only open on weekends, and they are wisely not filling every seat, so the kitchen and waitstaff don't fall behind. This means that you will likely have a wait, and maybe a long one, for an outside table. The view is good from inside, too, so if you don't mind eating inside, it may be quicker. Very friendly staff, with a European pace to the place. That means relax and enjoy your stay. This is not the best place to visit if you are on a strict schedule, due to the staffing and scale of the place, but if you are looking for an enjoyable meal with friends and family, this is a great choice. Bloody Marys are excellent, and many of the dishes, sides, and sauces are made in-house. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the patio. We had a lovely meal. Recommended! read more

We stopped in today for brunch, lovely place, great view and food was good. a little spendy.. burgers were $17.00. However.. we waited 40 minutes for our food. After a half hour we asked the waitress if we should expect it to come soon, she said "I suppose so" and walked away. Never followed up. My boyfriend then got up to ask and we were told it was the next order up, but it came 10 minutes later lukewarm. The waitress never apologized, or made any attempt to acknowledge the situation, so makes us wonder if this is normal for the place. What we found was nothing short of spectacular - the Scenic View Lodge overlooking Lake Monroe. Unexpectedly good service. High quality ingredients. And a beautiful view. Went there for dinner and it was a really unpleasant experience! Service was slow and bad! I waited for 10 mins after I got there to be asked for a drink, I ordered a caipirinha, and it wasn't nothing but liquor on it, no limes, no sugar, nothing but alcohol. I expressed my discontent with the drink but they didn't offer any solution Food was on time but nothing really worth the drive! In general if you are going just for the view, then is a good option, just get a drink and order some fries to spend the afternoon there! read more

The scenic view has it all. From friendly customer service, mind-blowing food, and a view to die for. I've been coming to scenic view for years and it is by far one of my favorite places to eat in Bloomington. Before there was the global crisis that there is now, my family and I would always go on a hike by Lake Monroe and then we would reward ourselves with cauliflower bites (a must have!) and I personally would always get their chicken Parmesan, which is to die for. I highly recommend the Scenic View as a place to go with your family, a group of friends, or on a romantic date. I know that once restaurants will be able to reopen, this will be the first place I go. I recommend that everyone else does the same. This is a restaurant, that will not disappoint you. read more

Every time I go to Bloomington, I make sure to visit the Scenic View Lodge for a meal, regardless of the time of day. The view, atmosphere and food are all great qualities that one would enjoy upon their visit to quite possibly the best joint on the outskirts of B-town. Scenic View is on the top of a hill overlooking Lake Monroe, which just adds to the divey feel. Come in the early morning to watch the fog lift, or in the evening when there are still boats on the water. Either way, you've got something to watch besides other eaters. Make sure to get an outdoor table to be more comfortable, even though sitting inside is still a good spot. The food is delicious! For breakfast try the Raspberry-Almond French Toast or the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, or diiner def go with a pizza or the Salmon Pasta. You won't be disappointed! read more

Service was AWFUL!!! There were 3 of us and we had to share a glass of water until the waiter FINALLY came back and gave us 2 more. Then it took an hour to get our drinks and another 1/2 hour to get our food. Used to like this place when Sadie worked here. Never ever again. Too bad. Great location with a great view. read more

Aug 21 , Saturday 1 pm . My friend enters the restaurant first and I came in afterwards. My friend says the 2 people in front of them were young couple did not wear a mask. But the front bartender/owner tells my friend to put a mask on, meanwhile the couple in front of us didn't say anything about them not wearing a mask. Then she ignored us and not asking us if we want a table inside or outside. Once I came in, it was a bad vibe already from the young owner. Great service from our server but bad business from the owner. This is racial discrimination they way she treated us different from the American people! read more

Finding someplace near Bloomington that is not all about the student life is hard. This is definely a bright spot on the top of a hill with a great view of a resivour. The food was very good, (try the fried pickels - and the burgers) and they have a good bar. Lots of fun, and a place that is really only known by the locals! read more

I love this place. It is a bit on the small side, but the view of Lake Monroe is nice. I haven't been here in summer yet, but it appears to have a lot of outdoor seating as well. The food is great. i have heard from friends that this place used to have the best food. I like the atmosphere, it's a bit of a drive, and the view isn't spectacular, but it feels like lake town/marina joint with out all of the nautical stuff everywhere. the food however was not so great. minimal effort was put in and it was luke warm when served. i think they could serve a pub style menu with some flare and do a lot better. the nachos were really good though. read more

The Scenic View is a hidden Bloomington gem and worth the few miles out to the lake. The summer views are incredible but the food and drinks will keep you coming back year around. They have delicious burgers, daily food specials, and the pasta carbonara is one of my favorites! We've yet to have a meal there we didn't love. read more

I gotta give it 4 stars as this place is really a great place to hang out and enjoy the view with some DIFFERENT flavors that aren't typical. I can't be fore sure but the types of things this place offers it just seems like they have someone there that attended culinary school running the joint. It's hard to describe but it's just not your standard meat & potatoes type place. They actually seem to have a sort of flair on presentation and whatnot. Just look at that one pic...Smoked Salmon BLT???? REALLY? Where you gonna find that? Prices are also different than any other place in that there isn't a 1.99 or 3.99....everything is in whole amounts like $7, $8, $10 etc.... A bit pricy but it is sort of elegant without having to actually BE elegantly dressed or whatever. Service is FANTASTIC! But at times the place is absolutely packed. They've become QUITE popular as of late due to people trying to get out of Bloomington and the hectic bumper to bumper crap that goes with it. I can't express how poor the service was here. I ordered food that I mistakenly thought did not have mushrooms in it, upon my discovery of the problem, I asked my waiter what options I had, he told me that since I had "already taken a bite," nothing could be done. He then pointed out my mistake and said the meal was delivered as ordered and their responsibility was done. This sentiment was reiterated by the manager, who showed zero sympathy. Scenic view.... It's so amazing to have a location with such potential right off of the lake that you can drive about 5 minutes to get there after a nice day in the sun. A lovely view, that seems many more miles from Bloomington than it actually is. Service was friendly and prompt, the menu had a reasonable number of vegetarian options. The fish tacos featured crunchy breaded pollack, and a zesty ( but not killer!) salsa. We will visit again! read more

Just returned from the restaurant. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because the waitress was pleasant. Ordered the ruebun sandwich as did my husband. They were EXTREMELY small. Left the restaurant hungry and THAT NEVER happens. Where do they find bread THAT small? So small sandwich at $12.50 and one Bloody Mary at $10.00 and our total bill with tip was $45.00. Oh, and it took 25 minutes to get our food even though there were only two other filled tables in the entire restaurant. If you go you will definitely be paying for the view and that is it. One and done for me. Plenty of other Bloomington restaurants with outdoor seating, better service, better food, and better prices. read more

Great location, good beer selection, good food (if you get it hot) and an interesting menu, but be prepared to WAIT. The review that applauds the service simply baffles me. One afternoon the place was nearly empty, and it still look a solid hour for food to come out. We had to get it boxed to go because one of our party had an appointment. From my experience, that's not atypical. I'd really like this place to succeed, and I've kept going back, hoping the service will improve. But it hasn't. The servers are nice enough, but service is always slow, and generally painfully so. Now on my last visit, I'll admit our appetizer came up quickly. But it was cold. You can't tell me it was prepared fresh. And it took 40 minutes just to get the check. If the service would ever improve, I'd give it five stars. Until them, I'm afraid I'm ready to give up.
