Normally, I absolutely love Cheddars scratch kitchen. Their ribs can be among the best in the business, but I've also found lately, they can be among the worst. My teenage daughter has worked at this location for over a year. She has worked over and picked up extra shifts, etc. Now they are scheduling her less frequently and when she went in to talk to her manager about her schedule this woman told her she needed to worry less about making money and more about improving the company. She also conveyed there were complaints about her performance but couldn't give her any specifics on these issues. Decided to try Cheddars on a Friday evening in February 2022 @8:00pm. The atmosphere in Cheddars is nice and our server was excellent! Unfortunately, the food was the worst part of our visit. I chose the grilled salmon dinner but learned the bed of rice has dairy, so I opted for the baked potato- which they were out of! Next Option: I chose to have a steak and French fries. I ordered my steak medium rare but was served well done and wasn't edible, unfortunately. I simply cut it and left it on the plate. My son enjoyed his cheese bites & chicken strips and I enjoyed the swirl. I'm leaving 3*'s due to management offering a refund of the steak and our awesome server! read more

This is by far one of the better chain restaurants in the good old US of A. I've eaten at many of them in a half dozen different states. They have scaled down their menu in 2020 (see my new photo). My favorite, the corn meal white fish, is still offered. And we were very glad that the red beans & rice side is back! I have always loved their regular lemonade because it is so tart. I order it every time! Since I crave Creole cooking, I had to try the Red Beans & Rice now that they brought it back. Fortunately for me it was not too spicy, as it should be. Cajun cooking is about flavor, not how many alarms it is. If you go to southern Louisiana you will notice the the food is generally not spicy and that there are many different brands of hot sauce on the table for you to doctor your food to your liking. One thing the new menu does not list is a lunch portion vs. dinner portion option. The Cornmeal White Fish now comes with 5 - 6 fillets. Every time I order them they come out perfectly cooked. The Cole slaw is good and not too "dry." Since I live in Brooklyn, it is much easier for me to drive to the Bloomington Cheddar's than the one in Avon. Using Hwy 67, the 39 By-Pass and I-69, I hit only 3 traffic lights and it only takes me 30 mins. Plus if you arrive at the height of the dinner hour rush, the wait times are MUCH shorter. read more

My first visit here and I was extremely pleased. They were very, very busy but our server stopped by as soon as we were seated to quickly mention she would be over as soon as she could. Then just a minute or two later she returned to take our drink orders. She apologized that we had to wait, even though it was only two minutes at most. The food was very good and our server was excellent. Although she was hustling around to take care of many tables she still stoped by to bring us drink refills before our glasses were empty. I ordered the four vegetable plate, which included the broccoli casserole and it was delicious! All the sides were excellent. I'm not a big fan of chains, but they serve their place. This one is within walking distance of several hotels and right off the highway. If you have a Designated Driver, I highly recommend the Texas Tea! (their take on Long Island Iced Tea). Also, Every diner is served a warm croissant upon arrival - I'm not gonna lie, this is an extremely pleasant greeting. We were here for drinks and apps. The queso dip was nothing special, but a pleasant accompaniment to those tasty TX Teas. If you don't have the time or a car to drive to into town, this is a worthwhile stop. read more

It's 2021. The pandemic is (hopefully) finally near its end. I didn't go out to eat at all in 2020, and finally felt brave enough to eat at a restaurant in person. I've always enjoyed my meals at Cheddar's, so going back was an easy choice. The decor is wonderful, and I love the fish tank, too! On this visit, girlfriend had some wraps that she said were good, I had the monte cristo, and kid had a burger. I was happier with the server than the food, I think. The monte cristo was definitely fried, but for some reason the inside ranged from warm to cold to the touch. I've never had one, and made sure to mention this to the server when I brought it up. It definitely took away from the experience. The croissants and fries and cheese curds certainly helped! Our server was very responsive, which I appreciated. The only other knock I have is that we probably sat for about 5-10 minutes after using their pay system. We wanted to-go containers and had to wait for our server to return. And to end on a good note, after some time in the toaster oven and then the microwave, the monte cristo tasted exactly as it should have last night. Crispy on the outside, and hot in the middle. Last minute decision to try a place I haven't eaten at before. The outside design with rock formations is intriguing so of course I had to. Staff was attentive and polite. The interior was fascinating with southwestern inspiration, fish tanks and a giant mechanical fan. As for the food, everything was fresh. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. Flavors don't quite stand out and the menu seemed a bit bland. Reasonable parking space but you have to walk all the way around to the front of the restaurant, so the layout is a bit odd. Not terrible, but not amazing. A solid three stars. read more

I went right Cheddars after a long day of traveling and working to grab a drink and dinner before going to my hotel. I was greeted upon entering the restaurant and showed the way to the bar area. I sat for about 15mins before 2 other people came up. No one addressed me asked if I wanted water anything. Ironically the 2 ladies that came after me were serviced and no one addressed my presence. I sat and watched them receive service and food and NO ONE ACKNOWLEDGED Me the entire time. I just grabbed my belongings and left. I don't bash or accuse restaurants of profiling but I definitely felt SOMETHING. Disappointed customer... Thank you TEXAS ROADHOUSE for providing service immediately upon my arrival. Second time in a row that I've been seated and simply forgotten. I'm assuming it's terribly understaffed although there were two different servers who appeared to be working our area but they never even acknowledged us. Normally you're offered the croissants as a complimentary ap. Last time we were there it was never offered. We actually emailed asking if it was discontinued. We were told that we should still expect them and given kind of a "sorry bout that". There were other service issues that trip but... Overall the place looked kind of unattended to. Dirty floors several uncleaned tables. Not a great look. Anyway, it's a place we've come semi frequently because the food is ok and it's relatively inexpensive. At this rate none of that matters. I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in and saw the early dining menu! Cheddar's had always been lies expensive than other chains but, the early dinner special was a GREAT surprise. We had an attentive server. The chips, cheese and salsa were delicious as usual and our meals were huge! It is definitely worth the price. I had the tilapia with mango salsa. The mango salsa is spicy even though they told me it wouldn't be but, it was easy to push away. The tilapia was delicious and the fresh steamed broccoli was perfection! The bathrooms I love as they have the doors that completely close and don't leave a crack. The parking is plentiful and there is even outdoor seating if the weather is amenable. I didn't like that they sat us in the bar without asking as we don't like to drink and we don't watch TV when eating. Overall, the food was good and for a really great price! read more

Surprisingly good! I'll be back. This is a large, and fairly new restaurant (as of mid-2018). The menu is quite extensive, with appetizers, entree salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, ribs, steaks, etc. I can recommend the fried cheese curds appetizer, very tasty, but use some discretion, or you'll be full before your food comes. The house salads are fresh and decent-sized (given that it's a side). My kids liked the BBQ ribs. My pasta dish was a little bland, but was decent. Service was stellar. And they even have SWEET ICED TEA (I'm from Georgia - this is a big deal), and it's excellent. This is also a few miles from IU and downtown Bloomington, so on a home-game weekend, you'll avoid the crowds and wait by taking a short drive over to this place. So I'll be back. read more

Not bad. Similar type of restaurant as Applebees, Chilis, etc. but I think the food here tastes better. I like the salmon. That's what I usually get. Although I wish it was cooked as advertised ("blackened" is not blackened at all). The corn side and the carrot side are both super tasty. They forgot half of our order and after a long day we did not have the energy to go back to the restaurant after discovering. The manager was very nice and gave a refund. I was struggling between 3 and 4 stars...so I gave 'em a little extra love. The only big markdown from me is the lack of vegetarian options. I do love their salads....and they are huge....and they are willing to substitute delicious grilled mushrooms in place of the chicken that normally comes on it. However, if your vegetarian, you're eating appetizers, salad, or sides. This is good for me on occasion. The service and atmosphere is amazing. I have been here twice and the wait staff is very attentive. They have some of the most elaborate decorations I have ever seen. You walk in and do not feel like you are in bloomington. There is an almost full wall for a aquarium, awesome fans all over, and lots of plants. I can't wait til its warm and I can use the patio by the water fountain. They have a great painkiller. Its $6.50 but huge. If you like coconut half as much as me, I highly recommend this cocktail for you Both times I have been, I was shocked at how cheap it was. Tonight, my man got an 11 oz steak with two sides and an iced tea. I got a salad, an extra side, and the painkiller. We shared chips and salsa. Total....$34+tip. Not bad at all. read more

The outside patio looked inviting with its fountain. As we entered, we were greeted by a delightful hostess. As we were seated, the waitress greeted and took our order. My wife and I shared a sandwich. The waitress brought us two separate plates as well as the sandwich on a separate plate. She graciously gave us the space and the time to catch up. Recently ate there with a group of 13. Despite walking in without a reservation they were able to seat us relatively. Keaton, our server, did a superb job handling our group. I had probably the best bacon cheeseburger I have ever eaten. It was truly loaded. When one of our party lost the keys to their car and had to leave it in their parking lot, the managers could not have been more cooperative. read more

me and my wife came in about a month ago. sat in the bar and had nothing less than a horrible experience food was served wrong, steaks were cooked wrong, the waitress seemed to be more interested in flirting with another employee than doing his minimum wage job - had nothing to drink nearly the entire time we were eating, had to wave him down several times just to get drinks refilled/complain about our service we finally make it to desert, ordered 2 slices of cake and after waiting over 20 minutes we just decided to leave!! we know everything about this kid from the loud conversations with other employees at the bar - where he went to school, where he grew up, what his hobbies are, talking about other employees that no longer work at cheddars, the whole 9 we called back after leaving and explained to higher management about our issues and was promised that it wouldn't happen again and that we would be receiving a gift card to our email. and of course that never came. we have called back 3 times since this "reimbursemt" giftcard was supposed to be coming and get told the same thing every time, "you'll have to call back on this day" "you'll have to talk to a different manager" the whole go around. glad to know how they treat high paying customers. we will NEVER return and will be telling friends and family about our experience read more

My wife and I both ordered the Dijon chicken and mushrooms. We received chicken and rice. No Dijon no mushrooms! The waitress went to check and came back with mushrooms and gravy for us to put on our chicken. But gravy??? Also the rice was not long grain rice. I ordered Cheddars for curbside pickup. I was extremely pleased with the ordering process, the friendly service of the employee bringing me my food, and the food itself. I highly recommend the chicken pot pie and the baked potato soup, as I would say they're the perfect definition of comfort food. I was also highly satisfied that my food was so hot despite ordering it to go. The croissants are absolutely amazing - I am definitely obsessed with them! read more

The service was slow. We were told, after waiting for our meal for nearly 30 minutes, that they were short staff in the kitchen. The server should have told this to us initially rather than ignoring us for 30 minutes. Food was mediocre. We had not been to a Cheddars in years. I am not in the habit of posting bad review unless I am SUPER ticked off. I completely support the idea of supporting our local businesses. We often try to do this before we spend at a larger franchise. Unfortunately , this sometimes back fires. We ordered a take put and my partner arrived she received a text that said" Your cheddar order is being prepared. Please arrive at your pick up time", that was about 15 minutes before the order should have been ready. She clicked on the link and it said,' order picked up". Confused she called, and get voice mail THREE TIMES! At this point she is annoyed and goes into the restaurant to be greeted by the hostess that responded to her inquiry to speak to the woman behind the bar. After not being acknowledged by the woman behind the bar, despite waving her hands in the air, she was asked by a waitress if she had been helped. Again she was redirected to the woman behind the bar who was busy taking an order from someone at the bar. Since there was a bag on the bar top counter that looked like a take out order she AGAIN tried to flag someone down, this went no where. Back by the hostess she asked for a manager and conveniently, the woman behind the bar pops up and acknowledged her. At this point our food is cold and my partner is beyond annoyed at the lack of customer service. It is COMMOM sense to acknowledge people who are spending money at your establishment and not wave them off to someone else. Had it been super busy , yes maybe, we'd understand but an empty place where one seems to care that you aren't being taken care whileTWO hostesses are busy chattering is completely unacceptable. She arrives home with cold burgers and lettuce that is browning from age. I mean ...REALLY?? We were so upset we tried to call the restaurant again but voice mail and cannot even leave a message. This is no way to run a " business" and I sincerely hope that someone reads this message and considers the importance of the business you provide, the technology you use, the lackluster ambiance of people who really don't care, and CLEAN UP YOUR SH*T! You know, I somewhat see Cheddar's as a paradox. Here's the issue: the food at Cheddar's is AMAZING. The service, however, is quite lacking. It seems that no matter what Cheddar's I go to (since this is a chain), I run into the same problems with service. I'll arrive and sit for nearly 10+ minutes before a server acknowledges I exist (no matter how full or empty the restaurant is), let alone that I'm seated in their area. In fact, recently I had a waitress straight up tell me that she didn't come by my table to wait on me because she had no idea I was there and no one told her she was sat. The issue here grows because you're often forgotten about, and will sit without refills and such throughout your meal. If I had to rate this place solely on service (because the Bloomington location is no exception to my rule), it would probably not be generous. On the flip-side of the coin, though, the food is ALWAYS EXCELLENT. It's hot, it's delicious, and I'm always left a'lickin' my chops after a meal. Each item I've ever ordered - from the classic chicken fingers to the ribs and steak - are cooked to perfection with TONS of flavor. They call this place a "scratch kitchen" because their recipes are made "like yer mama used to make back in the day" all from scratch, and they aren't wrong to boast on this fact. The portion sizes rival ANY plate you'd get from your grandmama's house, meaning there's always some to take home. It's like your own grandmother is in the kitchen making sure you got some food to take home and eat on later because, well, she knows you ain't cooking for yourself. That's what makes rating this place such a hard thing to do. If you have a lot of time on your hands, are a casual person that is quite patient, and want a down-home meal like you got when you were a kid, Cheddar's is a great place to go. Recently attended this location for dinner. It was a nice evening outside so I thought we might sit outside. The patio said to ask a hostess inside to be seated outside. We were informed that they weren't serving outside. That was a little saddening but I'm glad we were placed inside in the section we were because our server was great. Our server, Morgan, came to introduce herself and she was already a true delight. She was very honestly conversational, in a way that I felt like our small talk wasn't wasted but we were having a real conversation. We ordered our drinks and food all at once and she quickly returned with our drinks. Did I forget to say? Morgan has an injured arm in a sling yet still brought out 2 drinks in one trip. Dedicated server there! Our appetizer and food came out promptly with a few checks from Morgan. Everything was prepared well. For the price you pay on the menu, the food is just okay, it's nothing too stellar. Nothing stands out like fresh ingredients or expensive cuts of meat that would raise the price so high -- the charming atmosphere of the restaurant maybe. No matter the price, I was happy to tip our server Morgan as she was awesome, attentive and was great at getting us what we ordered, but being a fun person to interact with at the same time.
