I love this place. It's always a quit lunch spot that I can get in and out of within my hour lunch - and I work downtown! I love their pick 2. The savannah chopped salad is a must try and my favorite go-to. But I also love their spuds, harvest chicken salad, tomato bisque, and chicken and dumplings. I'm usually getting a combination of those things for the pick 2. But every once in a while I have to have their reuban because, surprisingly, they have one of the best reubens in town! We have been searching for a Cuban sandwich in the Indianapolis area. Found one at McAlister's Deli in Greenwood, IN. It was excellent, almost like being in Little Havana in Miami, FL. Getting in and out is easy at this location due to a traffic light on 3rd street. I arrived before the lunch rush obviously since I was able to walk straight up to a cashier. Even after the line backed up to halfway to the front door, it moved very quickly. That's what I like about McAllister's, it's fast food but very healthy. From the time I walked in the door to leaving after eating was a total of 20 mins. Way better than sitting in a drive through lane for 10 mins and eating in your car. I ordered my usual Grilled Chicken Sandwich that comes with one side. I selected the chips which were kettle cooked, a healthier chip in my opinion. The sandwich was excellent as usual, plenty of chicken, honey mustard lightly spread on a croissant with lettuce and tomato. The restroom was spotless and dispensers were full. This deli is not to far from where I'm staying, but because it's snowing today, I stayed in. I ordered pure sugar cane lemonade, The McAlister's club wrap, chips, potato salad, and a Caesar salad. My husband, and I shared everything. I ate 1/2 of the wrap, a spoon full of potato salad, and a few kettle chips. I don't eat bacon, or tomatoes, so I didn't add any on the wrap. Great service! They bring it to you and take it when you're done. Fresh, quality food all around and generous drink sizes. The atmosphere is casual but with class. They have a a monthly plan to get free drinks every day you come in. Parking is in a strip mall parking lot. We were on our way home after church and decided to try out Bloomington's version of McAlister. We were used to a much smaller version in Geneva Illinois. This site is huge. it is well lit with a delightful staff. The cash registers have plexiglass and the staff is gloved. My wife ordered the stuff baked potato with chili. I chose the chef salad. We enjoyed our choices taking home enough for another meal. This place is a definite yes to return for another meal. read more

I love McAlister's Deli and have eaten at several locations since first discovering it two years ago. My first visit to Bloomington's Third Street location was consistent with all the others: fantastic. The food is always fresh and delicious, and doesn't make me feel horrible after eating it. The service was quick and the employees were very friendly. In regard to COVID procedure, this location is offering both dine in and outdoor seating with reduced capacity, frequent sanitation, and required masks. The menu has wonderful selections such as salads, sandwiches, soups, and baked potatoes. I always get the choose 2 option. The service is generally friendly, however recently my wife and I went and service was not as good as in the past. The Fort Wayne historic pictures and clean environment make for a nice ambiance. We usually sit outside which is one of the reasons why this restaurant is one of our favorites. The famous iced tea is the best anywhere. read more

We had a group of seven that showed up 20 minutes before closing. The soccer players in our group were hungry after a long tourney. We felt bad about showing up but the employees never made us feel this way. The food was served hot and the service was great. We never felt rushed and the employees were amazing. April 2022 - We had the Choose 2 menu options. I had 1/2 of the King Club and 1/2 Caesar salad. It was enough food for two people. My family members enjoyed their food as far as I could tell. Overall the food and service was good. My only annoyance is that that the receipt is not a proper credit card receipt. I have several cards that I use when I travel and without 4 digits of the card number on the receipt then the receipt is worthless. Millennials seem to have no idea what a proper credit card receipt looks like. Sad. read more

I personally love McAlister's. It is a deli that doesnt skimp on veggie options. I am addicted to their Taco Salad....it comes with veggie chili. I dont know why, but hot/cold combos are one of my faves. I get it sans cheese and sour cream to make it vegan, but there are still tons of toppings (onion, tomato, guac, chips, chili, salsa...). Its in a regular bowl not the cool deep fried one. Other than that, they have a great selections of soups. I like the fire-roasted veggie. Its a good soup to dip your veggie club in. Mmmm....veggie club has avocado. Everyone raves about their tea. This is justified. They have some of the best brewed tea. Their mango tea is good...but not my favorite. Went these yesterday when this guy and girl were working and they acted so annoyed like i was interrupting their conversation by ordering. It was extremely awkward and she kept making comments to the other employee while i was ordering. My sandwich was really good though. The spoon they gave me was nasty tho, the picture below is the spoon after i tried wiping it off with my napkin. We came here on 12/12/17, when my in-laws were in town. We wanted something quick and low-key before we went out to Brown County, and this should have fit the bill. Sadly, our visit here was anything but quick. As we were giving our order at the counter, and we're about to pay, their entire computer system went down. We're talking about every register, and in the kitchen too. The girls who were taking the orders let the manager know right away. He made a phone call to IT, but didn't seem particularly upset about it. So, we're standing there waiting, and waiting, and waiting. He says there's nothing they can do, but the kitchen is fully operational, and they have nothing currently cooking. Still, we waited, while most of the people in line (and it stretched almost to the entrance doors) walked out to find another place to eat. Finally, a guy from the kitchen tells the girls behind the counter to take our orders by hand, so they can at least make our food, and we can pay after we eat, once the computers come back online. The manager upfront doesn't like this, they go back and forth a bit, and finally the girl starts taking our order again, this time by hand (all she could find to write with was a silver sharpie). As we were halfway through her writing down the order, the computers come back up, so she switches and has to take the whole order again. She was super pleasant under all the stress, and gave us our drinks and a cookie for all our trouble. We think the drama is behind us, and go find a seat. Again, we wait, and we wait. All of a sudden she comes to us and says that while the computers came back on, it never sent our order to the kitchen! She asked a couple questions about what we ordered and went back to the counter. We wait again. Here's the problem, when we finally got our food, several things were wrong! I had a split order of nachos and a blt, and they forgot the cheese on the nachos! My father in law asked for white bread for his sandwich and it was put on multigrain. If you're taking our order three times and we have to wait about 6 times as long as we should have, the order should have at least been correct. While I don't fault them for the computer issue, (hey, those things happen!) I do take issue with how it was handled by the manager, and the fact that even after the computer were up, we didn't get the correct orders. McAlister's has long been one of my go-to places for quick, high quality food. I ordered a choose 2 to go and received my order within 10 minutes. I love how this location has the chicken & dumpling soup available. The McAlister's near my place in Indy doesn't carry the chicken & dumpling option so it's always to get it here when I'm in Bloomington. The staff was friendly and efficient, even while handling a big batch of online orders. The only suggestion I have is that I wish plastic utensils were available for customers to take with them if they choose. I usually end up with plastic ware when I don't need it but the opposite happened this time around: I needed it because I was on the go. If utensils were available for folks to pick up as needed, it would cut down on the number of extras customers take home while preventing us from having to go back and ask for it if we need them! read more

Though this is a chain - The food is excellent to me and the staff is very friendly and attentive. They keep it clean too. It is my favorite soup and salad place in Bloomington.  Great crafted sandwiches-you can change the toppings if you ask too.  My favorites are the Ham and Cheese Melt or the Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar. The air conditioning is very cold and they also have fans to circulate the air. I prefer inside- but- If it is too cold for you -you can always sit outside too. This is the best McAlister's Deli I've tried (and I've been to their restaurants in Tennessee and Georgia as well). If you've been to one, you know the menu is pretty vast - dozens of hot and cold sandwiches, soups, baked potatoes, and some sides. Everything is very fresh, service is great, and it's large, with plenty of seating. I'll leave it to you to study the menu, but my family's food and mine were great. The kale soup is excellent. Breads were fresh, greens were crisp, loved it. We'll be back. read more

I normally have good experiences with McAlister's, though the line can get a little long at lunchtime. The food is good and the service is usually pretty solid. Today, I came in and placed a simple to-go order of chicken and dumpling soup + a plain spud. The restaurant was fairly quiet when I came in, so I thought my order would be out quickly. I've been waiting for 25 minutes and am still waiting as I type this review. The guys in the back were fooling around for a while, which may gave something to do with why I've been waiting so long. I'll definitely re-think coming here in the future. Update: I finally got my food. It took 30 minutes. Also, one of the guys in the back was talking loudly about his "butt crack," which made the experience all the more enjoyable. read more

I specifically asked the cashier which soups didn't have meat as I mentioned I'm recently vegetarian...however as I consumed my country potato soup at the bottom there was small chunks of ham or bacon. A few things I've learned about this McAlister's: --Make sure you specify which type of chips you want with your sandwich when you order. They serve you at your table and place the chips on your plate, so there's no fixing it. Their default is standard Lays potato chips. --Speed of service varies. Service is always friendly, but sometimes it takes a while to get your food. --I really enjoy the food. we came here yesterday and dined in--under indiana's new covid-19 guidelines--and i was really impressed. my friend and i both work at a restaurant so we've been dealing with the same situation and this mcalister's is a great example. they have specific tables closed off to meet social distancing and the place is spotless. the food was also delicious (we ordered the mcalister's club and the potato soup) and the service was great! love the b-town pride too :) read more

McAllister's always makes you feel welcome. The staff always greets you with a smile and ask how they can help. They will go out of their way to make sure your table is clean and your drink is full. Their food is always consistent. You can't go wrong with their chicken tortilla soup and the French dip. The cookies are also pretty tasty as well. They also enjoy taking care of the community. They gave teachers free drinks for a week during teacher appreciation week. They also have free tea days through out the year. It is nice that a restaurant that I enjoy supporting will forgo a bit of profits to support the community. read more

The reviews here mentioning how aloof and unhelpful the staff is at McAlister's are all true to my experiences here. I enjoy the spud olé (when the edges of the potato aren't undercooked) which is why I kept returning despite the fact that every time I have been to McAlister's as of late the staff has ruined at least one thing (at the very least) about my food or experience. At a deli you would expect small customizations to orders to be feasible, but at this location if you ask for bacon extra crispy you receive it as rubbery and floppy as possible. If you ask for a small accommodation the staff looks at you mouth agape like they don't understand English. Small customizations to orders usually result in either fumbled food that is not at all what you wanted or an extra 15 minutes on your wait time. Both outcomes have happened to me multiple times and I refuse to return. The straw that broke the camel's back was ordering a "hot sandwich" today (that was served completely frigid)-- I asked the cashier if the sandwich came with a pickle inside the to-go box, and he told me that I had to get my own pickles from the bar now. When I explained it was a slightly specific preference that the pickle be warmed by the sandwich, he still instructed me to get it from the bar. He didn't explain that the chefs no longer had access to pickles, so when I told him I didn't understand why they couldn't give me one, he said "Some people wanted no pickles and some people wanted 6 pickles, so we just put them at the bar now." Another dazzling instance of a so-called "deli's" COMPLETE incompetence for slight custom requests. The fact that the food isn't cheap (as a warning to college students!) and the staff is so completely incompetent should prevent you from choosing McAlister's. I suggest you go to Panera or Butch's Deli if you want a halfway decent experience. read more
