My son suggested we try BRU Burger Bar during it visit to IU, and I'm so glad we did. Delaney was a delightful server, and was very helpful and knowledgeable, and did not steer us wrong. Interestingly, neither of us ordered a burger, but the wings were fantastic, the fries were super crispy, and the truffle aioli that we dipped them in was house-made and delicious. But the crown jewel of the evening was the honey gochujang chicken sandwich! I can't say enough good things about it. The chicken was tender, the breading was crisp and tasty, the honey gochujang sauce was to die for, and the toppings just brought it all together. Seriously. Get it! Super casual atmosphere. This restaurant is one of my favorites in Bloomington. Though the burgers are far better here than anywhere else in Bloomington, they've remained affordable by comparison. Inside the restaurant is a really nice modern design and they have a lot of space and tables. The servers are always very nice and provide quick service. The burgers, though, are so good. They're made to order and you can tell that whoever is running the kitchen really cares about quality. I highly recommend coming here for easily the best burger you'll have in Bloomington. read more

Super cool vibes in this BRU Burger in what used to be a Greyhound Station. The space is huge -- two stories of indoor seating and a large patio with outdoor seating. Huge menu with tons of options! It was so hard to pick a burger because the options all sounded so delicious. Everything is cooked to order, and all the burgers can be ordered in the Burger Snack size as well. It gives the atmosphere of a large bar/restaurant but still contains the delicacies of a small, cozy restaurant. The main reason for the 3 stars is the food. I tried BRU burger bar for the first time via home delivery, and I'm extremely pleased. I was initially delighted at the excellent "to go" packaging used. Everything was labeled in very protective and easy to open containers. The burgers are excellent, cooked perfectly to the right temp and great seasoning. The quality of the beef is top notch, with nice toppings. The fries are amazing with a mysterious seasoning. I'd love to know what you use on them, if it's not a trade secret. :-) The house ketchup is delightful, with a slightly fruity taste that reminded me of tonkatsu sauce. I can't remember when I've had better onion rings. The cobb salad is spectacular; excellent greens and the avocado and guac are amazing. The mac and cheese is delicious and surprising -- it's a light cheese coating that you taste more than you see. I'm looking forward to trying the chili next time! read more

With the power out due to a storm, it seemed a good night to try BRU Burger, mostly because it's been on our list to try plus they had electricity, which was a big plus. I'd heard that there hadn't been big crowds since their opening, but it was very crowded when we were there. Likely the power outages were good for BRU Business! The restaurant is very nice inside, and had a large enclosed patio which is where we were seated. Full bar in the front, and honestly the nicest bathrooms I've ever seen in a restaurant! Parking is of course a challenge because it's downtown just off 4th street, but not insurmountable. Our server(s) were very nice - one main server and a trainee on her first night. Two of us had milkshakes (chocolate for me, strawberry for my son) and we had the onion ring appetizer. The O-rings were my favorite part of the meal. Chocolate shake was a close second. Wife ordered a basic burger and upgraded to the chili cheese fries. That is a $7 upgrade by the way compared to the $2.50 fries, but she said they were definitely worth it. Son had the double bacon burger and fries. I had the bourbon burger and fries. We all liked our burgers, but didn't love our burgers. The fries were good, and wife loved her CCF's. My bourbon burger was just 'meh' and I didn't feel any kind of way about it honesty. The 'bourbon glaze' barely added to the burger and didn't have much taste. This is ironic because my #1 worry was that I'd hate the glaze because I'm weird about condiments. But instead it was basically just a messy sauce without flavor to me. Wife and son were both seemingly the same - burger was fine, but didn't seem special. Dinner for three with tip came in at a little over $100. Admittedly with an app, two shakes, but no booze. All in all, it was fine. If I was out to enjoy the bar and having drinks with friends, the bar is nice and would add an element to the meal. But if I'm just out for dinner of specialty burgers and fries etc. I'd choose Bub's every time. Neither are cheap, but the Bub's food is simply better. Man do I miss Opie Taylor's! read more

When I heard Bru Burger was making their way to Bloomington, I knew I had to check them out. Walking in you can smell the new construction/building - everything looks brand new! The service was incredible, everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there. We made a reservation and were seated and serviced quickly. Our waitress was super kind and helpful. They are known for their award winning burgers using locally sourced meats and vegetables. We ordered the Chili Cheese Fries and the Spicy Pomegranate Margarita to start. They have a full bar including beers on draft (some local), wine and cocktails. The fries were delicious and margarita tasty & not too spicy. I opted for one of my favorites the Mexicali Burger and it did NOT disappoint. They utilize a signature grind of Sirloin, Chuck and Brisket and the medium was perfection. Another favorite (I didn't get this time) if you aren't feeling a burger - the Valencia Salad is FIRE add+ blackened shrimp. Parking could be a pain point - as with most resturants on/near Kirkwood. Make sure you plan ahead to find time for parking. Definitely hit them up for lunch or dinner ASAP. I'm excited for the weather to warm back up and check out their patio especially once the construction is finished across the street. BBB: Best Burger in Bloomington. I've eaten there twice, once for lunch when there were just a few folks and once for an early dinner when it was packed. Both times we got several things to split, so I've tried the provencal burger, black bean burger, honey-chipotle BBQ, black & bleu with beef, onion rings, and fries. The absolute star of the show is the provencal burger. The herbed goat cheese is simply divine. Best burger in Bloomington, hands down. The onion rings are crunchy (I prefer a softer batter), the black bean burger was nothing to write home about, and the ketchup that came with the fries was oddly sweet, but everything else was scrumptious. They have a variety of brews on tap, and their bottled root beer is great. Pro tip: The standard burger is 7 oz, but you can get any burger in a 4 oz "snacking size" (beef patty only).
