Kinda, sort of, out of the way on the south side of Bloomington, but worth the trip. Small café style restaurant with excellent service and great ambience. Half-price oysters on Sunday and an interesting sandwich selection. Full bar, too. Kids welcomed. Plenty of parking. Moderately priced. Pizza's looked interesting and will try on our next trip.

Service and ambiance are both amazing! Food is terrific! They had a lunch "pizza" available for dinner and we tried it. Larger than expected! Also had a limoncello spritz! Very generous pour!

    Great selection at the bar!

Last Saturday (9/1/2024), my family visited Half Bottle Bistro, and we were absolutely blown away. The service was impeccable-- the staff treated us like long-time friends, making us feel right at home as if we were regulars. Our kids were treated with genuine respect and comfort, which made the experience even better. The restaurant's layout and decor were truly unique--bright, airy, and refreshing with beautiful finishes, without feeling pretentious. It's unlike anything we've seen in the midwest. They even had the IU football game on both TVs, with sound (but not overpowering), which was awesome! While the atmosphere and service were top-notch, the food and drinks were the real stars of the evening. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, Roasted Corn Queso, Meatballs, and Shrimp Cocktail (not pictured) appetizers, and all I can say is WOW! Each dish was incredible. My wife and I shared the Beef Manhattan entree, and our only regret was not having more room to try even more dishes! We did save room for dessert and I am glad we did! We had the Vanilla Creme Brûlée and the Flourless Chocolate Cake (no pictures of dessert, we were too excited and ate them right away) and as with everything else we tried, they were delicious. This place exceeded our expectations in every category, and I can't wait to go back. Ask for Jonathan or Rachel. They love to chat about their restaurant, why they made the choices they did on the menu, and have a real pride in every aspect of it. Five stars all the way!

So excited to check this new restaurant out! We stopped by for drinks and an appetizer on the patio. We ordered the meatballs (should have added the burrata) and they were delicious - tasted/texture-wise more like meatloaf but the still so good! We had speciality cocktails (not on the menu yet) - the Aperol Spritz and Tiki Old Fashioned - seemed to be very popular! I can't wait to go back and check out more menu items for dinner. Perfect place for a girls night or date night, the aesthetic is EVERYTHING and service was superb. Very modern, clean, Cottage Chic vibes - definitely check it out!

I got a little lost in the parking lot trying to figure out exactly where it was in a big beautiful stone building. I did wander into Verona coffee than past a beautiful fountain. upon entering, I immediately noticed how bright and welcoming it was. It had a Mediterranean southern California vibe. The owner/bartender was friendly and offered me a variety of fun beverages. I settled on a Aperol spritz. We talked about my eating options as I was a pescatarian and he was very flexible with offering tofu and other alternatives. The Chef put together a tofu, BLTA or TLTA. I also got a variety of fresh veggies with the homemade hummus dipping sauce. Chef Abel came out to check on me once I had the food to make sure it was to my liking. Can't wait to come back and bring my husband for the oysters, which I was told, they fly in fresh. I also know they have a very affordable happy hour starting at 2 PM with five dollar cocktails. Plenty of parking!

Delicious and nutritious. Much needed after a long day of IU classes- happy summer everyone!

Great food and service. Great cocktails. Only very small quibble is the lighting is very bright.

The service was great, along with the food. We were brought over a dessert waffle on the house which was amazing! Will be going back!

Wow. What happened? This place I swore by not so long ago has taken a serious nosedive…read more Lunch with the kid again. Fun, right? Nope. They were a bit busy but it didn't seem like a huge crowd today. We sat outside again. I knew what I wanted immediately, and placed our order as soon as our waitress came over to greet us. A cheeseburger for the kid, and a pulled pork sandwich for me. I've never had theirs before. And I never will again. And fries. We got fries. The wait was insane. At least a half hour for very simple dishes. The kid got a tiny burger. Beef and bun. No cheese, no ketchup. I had to ask for cheese. Yes. They messed up a cheese burger. Then there was my pulled pork. It was literally inedible. I've since come to learn that it was not reheated properly, so the goo that covered every bit of meat was fat. It was served cold, for some reason, and the way it was presented on the menu, listed under a picture of some yummy browned wings led me to believe it would be a very different - and HOT- sandwich. The server did offer to take it back, but at that point the meal was ruined for me and I didn't trust them to make anything else, or make it quickly. I made it clear I was very unhappy about such a disgusting sandwich. She took all of 10% off my bill. Better than nothing, but a lot less than I was expecting. if this is how they're doing things now, I'm done with this place. Badly overseasoned fries... cold pulled pork... cheeseburger with no cheese... I mean, come on... and based on what little I caught from people at another table, getting food out seemed to be an issue for them. I'm not sure if any other places nearby that aren't just bars serve decent food, but if they do, you can definitely give this place a hard pass. Yuck.

I wouldn't exactly call their appetizers "fun size," even though the menu refers to them as "fun…read moresize fun baskets." The portions are massive! I wasn't particularly hungry that day and, as a first-timer at Fat Dan's, I expected a small snack. Nope--what I got was a huge portion, but thankfully, it was delicious. The restaurant was packed since IU had just hosted a football game, so it was loud, and seating was limited and service was lacking. Still, it was a tasty experience overall!

The Breadsticks with delicious marinara, and our cheese pizza were truly the best we've ever had. Locals told me that it was because the local pizza places, especially Mother Bear's, are so popular, that college students would go there instead of getting cheap, mid pizza. I have now been to Mother Bear's three or four times and really wish that there was a Little Caesar's Pizza in town. This most recent trip was during lunchtime and I ordered a cheese slice, a small house salad, and a drink. I fortunately got there early enough to get a clean table, though I saw probably fifteen to twenty people come in after me who were not so lucky. Following the sign at the door, instructing them to "Please Seat Yourselves," I heard several people ask out loud how they were supposed to do that if there were no clean tables. Some employees frantically cleaned a few tables and had them sit down. A few minutes after I ordered, the waitress brought the house salad. It looked fresh at first but the more I ate the more I realized that several of the romaine pieces were either clearly out of date or simply bad. In a moment when cyclospora is running rampant through the US, the lack of care in selecting the lettuce was worrying. Several moments later I began wondering if the cheese slice was going to be brought to my table soon. Instead, it was probably twenty minutes between getting the salad and the cheese slice and it was pretty obvious (see the photo) that the slice had been sitting under a heat lamp for around that same amount of time. The crust was dry, the cheese had become stale and too salty, and it was not a very enjoyable experience. Eating around the bad lettuce was, unfortunately, more enjoyable, and it was also better than the pizzas I've had here in the past, where the dough, toppings, and cheese aren't integrated in a way that blends their flavors together very well. The one thing I can say about this time is that the Dr. Pepper was fine, which is not something I can always say about restaurant sodas. I think for me this will probably be my last time going to Mother Bear's. It seems like one of those places that probably was good at some point in the past but now they rely on the fact that undergrads and locals will go to the restaurant no matter what. I'll probably just keep dreaming of eating Little Caesar's instead or, more likely, I'll just go get better pizza at Osteria Rago.
