Honestly surprised reviews are not higher for this place. Stopped in for a Monday lunch while visiting Bloomington. There's a bar side and a less bar side, but overall it does have a bar feel. The menu however, is elevated bar food. Not quite approaching Gastropub level, but more than what you're going to find in a dive bar situation. We enjoyed the breaded tenderloin sliders, the salmon BLT (that hoagie bun was pillowy soft), the sautéed brussels sprouts, and the potato pancakes. Although maybe they didn't call them pancakes? They were smashed potatoes. Loaded with butter, salt and pepper, and boy were they delicious. We had excellent service from Morgan, who was very attentive. And I don't know what mixture they're using of syrup and carbonation for their Diet Coke, but it was seriously good. Don't sleep on this place. read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have a five star rating. The food and service has been amazing the two times we have visited from out of town. A random Yelp find, we ordered the blackened salmon and a burger. The salmon is the best I have ever had. I feared the seasoning as I am not a pepper or spicy girl. It was neither. Whatever they use, it's perfect. The grilled seasonal vegetables that came with it were unique and top notch. On my second visit, I couldn't bring myself to order anything but the salmon - doubt I ever will. The mozzarella sticks were HUGE and filled with cheese. The wings were great too and our server was kind and prompt. The hostess took time to answer our questions about the history of the location and is the one who recommended the salmon. We later spoke to a manager who relayed it is fresh salmon that makes it so good - so much so that IU sports team request it frequently. The inside of the pub-like setting is spacious with different levels and sides. There is small outdoor seating where dogs are welcomed. The only negative is parking. There is very little street parking nearby and no adjoining parking lot. This can be a problem for this with mobility issues and in busy downtown days. I wish they could fix this issue. We got the pulled pork nachos to share for appetizers and I got Coach's Carved Turkey for the main course. The general manager was unnecessarily confrontational and dismissive. Instead of approaching our table with professionalism or basic courtesy, the interaction felt hostile and disrespectful. No customer -- especially someone simply trying to enjoy dinner with their parent -- should feel spoken down to or treated as if they've done something wrong. Good management sets the tone for the entire establishment, and unfortunately, my entire experience reflected very poorly on the restaurant as a whole. Customer service starts at the top, and based on this interaction, there is serious room for improvement. The way this situation was handled showed a complete lack of emotional intelligence and hospitality. If leadership approaches guests with that level of negativity, it's no surprise the overall atmosphere feels tense. Dining out should feel welcoming -- not like you're being reprimanded. Was in the mood for some good ole fashioned Middle of the country American food. So I headed on over to Crazy Horse. Very conveniently located in the downtown area near campus, it's a fun pub vibe. Got a spicy margarita to start my dinner and it was fine, I actually don't know if there was any alcohol in it. But go here expecting mostly sandwiches and bar type food. The service was great and I sat outside since it was a pretty perfect night. I was feeling a burger (they have an entire page of the menu dedicated to it) and built one with Beer Cheese, bacon jam and poblano peppers. I was disappointed they recommend the burger to be cooked to medium but it wasn't too dry. The double burger was kind of hard to eat and a touch messy but that's the charm right? The one star might be on the generous side. I was in town for a meeting and staying at the Hyatt Place across the street. I was looking for a quick carry out option and this place was right there. The online menu is out of date and online ordering not available. I called twice before someone answered to place a carry out order - chicken quesadilla and a side salad with ranch. I was told 10 minutes. I walked across the street and when I walked in the bar stench was overwhelming. They place was empty and I felt like I was interrupting the two girls chatting. Order was ready on time, but had to ask for a receipt after paying...then silverware...napkin, etc. I got back to the hotel and the quesadilla looked great, but tasted horrible - some of the toughest, chewiest chicken ever. Everytime I come here, the whole table ends up getting cajun chicken pasta. If you've tried the Chili's cajun pasta, just imagine that but even better. I've also tried the fish and chips. We stopped in Crazy Horse, one of our favorite B'ton places, for dinner early Friday evening last week. We ordered our favorite appetizers, cheese sticks and wings and both were delivered quickly despite being busy and they were good as always. We all ordered our usual favorites for dinner- the Cuban, Shrimp Po Boy, and pulled pork nachos. We were seated outside at one of the umbrella tables and our waitress said she was too tall to reach my side of the table so could she just hand the plate to me. As she hands me the plate, it tilts and and the shrimp comes rolling off the plate. The one that fell off the table landed on my white shirt getting that orange sauce all down the front of me and landed on the ground. I put the ones that landed on the table back on the plate. The waitress was extremely apologetic and offered to make me some fresh shrimp, and I accepted. She came back a few minutes later and said the kitchen manager said he would not remake any of it for me since only one went on the floor. Maybe she left out the part where she is the one who dropped it on me when she asked him to remake it. We stumbled upon this restaurant after paying for parking and realized we couldn't go to the restaurant a couple of doors down because someone in our group was not 21 yet. However, I genuinely believe we were meant to come here instead because my whole group was BLOWN AWAY by how great it was! We came in and were seated immediately at a clean table. I asked for some recommendations, and he told us the cajun pasta and wings were some of the most popular items on the menu. It took me too long to decide what I wanted because everything looked so good! I settled on the fish and chips partly because the kale slaw looked interesting to me. Luckily, my fiancé ordered the cajun pasta which meant I got to try it! My sister-in-law and her fiancé got the same things as us, and his sister got a burger and fries. The food did not take long to come out at all. It wasn't crowded inside, but there were a decent amount of tables for it not being quite mealtime yet, so we were thankful for the quickness in the kitchen. At first glance, we knew we had come to the right place. And from the first bite, we DEFINITELY knew we had! The fish and chips were AMAZING!! The tartar sauce was unlike any I've ever had. I don't even know if they would call it a tartar sauce because it was so different. However, I loved it, and couldn't stop dipping both my fish and fries into it! The lemon slice was the perfect amount to top all four of my large pieces of fish. The slaw went perfectly with the whole meal as well! It came with a piece of bread, but I didn't really eat it because I was so focused on everything else. My meal was perfect, but somehow my fiancé's meal was even more perfect. He insisted I tried a bite, and I was literally blown away. The sauce was decadent and had the perfect kick of garlic. The noodles were flawlessly cooked, and they even did have a bit of a spice that is missing in most cajun pasta! I am glad I got the fish and chips because my pasta would have gone too quickly, and I would be too full to enjoy because of how tasty it was! Our server was fantastic, and my whole table was thrilled with our experience. We noticed a sign that had a challenge to try all 80 beers within 6 months. If I lived in Bloomington, I would totally be doing that challenge, and I think it's so cool!! The vibes of the restaurant were good. Out of all the reviews on here not a single one mentioned how terrible the ice water tastes! Which tells me people go here for the alcoholic drinks lol because it most definitely isn't the food. The mozzarella sticks were pretty good. The ranch dressing was great. That's about it. I had the classic chicken quesadilla. No seasoning whatsoever. Very very bland and came out lukewarm. Boyfriend had a burger and fries. I ordered beer cheese to dip with the fries. The beer cheese dip was grainy and bland. His burger was bland although it was cooked ok. The ice water was completely atrocious. Not a big deal to a lot of people, but as someone who drinks water 100% of the time when we go out to eat, yes I am going to include this in my review. Walked into this bar for a few after a couple other bars. The behind bar shelf is beautiful. It was elaborately carved and just cool. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks. The bartenders were adequate. They were not crazy busy. Ordered an Irish Green Tea which was okay. Watched him make it. Didn't put any sweet/sour mix in it, so it was lacking. I got it as a drink instead of a shot, so I had time to taste it. Other than that, we just shared a dessert. Something chocolate, don't even remember what it was, but it was fine. Not too memorable. Watched numerous employees get off work here and begin drinking. We also watched the bartenders do shot after shot. While we were there maybe 1 - 1.5 hours. We saw both bartenders do at least six shots. One was doing Vegas bombs and the other was doing vodka shots with OJ chasers. At least I think it was vodka. I couldn't see the bottle. At one point, a few servers got off shift and walked up to the side of the bar. One of them did a shot, but not just a shot. It was an entire rocks glass filled with Jameson. It was impressive. This bar was okay. No idea how the food was. Staff was fine but not overly friendly. The entertainment was watching the staff drink. I guess I don't hang out in college bars in Indiana enough to make it seem normal. read more

Crazy Horse is definitely a 4-star if you're also drinking - they have a huge selection of beer on tap so if that's your thing, you'd want to think of this as a 3.5 or 4.0 star review. I'm not, so I'm going with three stars. Food was good - not great - I had a steak and my dining companion a burger. The steak was cooked well, good size, and reasonably priced. Friend said the burger was great - it looked good - but the fries were just ok. Service was quick and there was no line to be seated. This is a huge benefit in Bloomington, especially as it was a game day and sometimes it's hard to find a place without a long line. I'll go back. read more

As things with the pandemic continue to fluctuate, my friends and I generally try to find less packed restaurant venues in order to mitigate risks. As a result, we often miss out on bar-like atmosphere. We were excited to go to Crazy Horse and find that though it was a bar, things were very well spaced out and we felt safe while there. Our server was fabulous and gave us lots of food and drink recommendations as well as put up with us losing several straws to our cocktails. I had been thinking about a road trip to Bloomington to break up the monotony of feeling stuck inside, so when I asked her for ideas about where she might want to visit or stop for lunch, she suggested Crazy Horse because of it's long history connected to Bloomington and because the menu appealed to her. They have a lot of the Hoosier standards available here and since she isn't as adventurous when it comes to dining as I am, Crazy Horse caught her eye. We were joined by my daughter and her husband on our excursion and because of the pandemic, there was spacing for safety inside, some outdoor patio seating still available (but going fast) too. But we decided to get our food to go. We ordered three different lunch options and the wait from the time of order wasn't long, maybe about 20 minutes or so. Although the person who took our orders was mindful of safety issues and was cordial, there was a "fail" that I've noticed at quite a few places during the pandemic for carry out. Although the food orders were correct, there were no condiments or napkins or plastic ware (I used one of my wife's potato chips as a scoop to eat my mac and cheese! Sturdy chips!!) The condiments were all supposed to be in packets. I think the problem is that the businesses are trying not to handle the customers orders any more than possible, but taking the time to check the order before bagging it would greatly improve the customer experience. As long as they sanitize their hands before opening the bags, they should be able to inspect the order before handing it over. The food was pretty good. I found mine okay even without the condiments. My SiL thought his a bit chewy and said it would have benefited from the condiments. So, maybe to improve your experience, try dining in so that your waiter/waitress can bring you those items. Within a few short minutes of arriving and seating myself at the only clean & vacant table outside, an exuberant table full of 5-6 guests (Marcia P?) began to unreservedly tell me the "service was terrible" and I should sit in another section or even consider going elsewhere. Hmmm. I'm not real bright, but I can usually read my surroundings & draw my own conclusions abt things. I was early..my friend was late..and I gave up irritability for Lent, so I politely declined their offer by gesturing w/my middle finger. IF they "weren't that busy" as was suggested, the other (most likely) possibility is they were understaffed for Mom's weekend here at IU, and BOTH women's and men's basketball games having just ended. Im staying. Moments later, a lovely server named Katie (one of two by that name tonight) came outside w/a couple drinks in hand for them. She nearly tripped & woulda sent the beverages into a spectacular arch, but she recovered without spilling a drop. After she went back inside, the patrons continued ripping on her and finding fault in every facet of her existence that they could imagine. One woman then told me she "went all Karen on her" and made Katie cry. That broke my heart. The women and men continued talking abt how they're learning American Sign Language (ASL) at their church. WHY(?)..so you can display your ignorance of biblical teachings to deaf people too?!?! I'm no Saint, and I've never claimed to be..but shouldn't we TRY to be more Saintly in our treatment of other human beings? Bragging abt making someone cry is the exact opposite of what my spirituality encourages me to do. And servers work for 1/10th of what many HS kids make operating French fry machines..to take crap from "Karens" like this!!! My friend arrived just as the table of Karens and their unfortunate husbands finally left and she said, "last chance" to accept their advice and flee. But I felt like a warrior for Christ at this point - something I desperately need more of - so i offered my other middle finger & stayed. The manager had come out to deal w/this table, and said she'd have Katie come right out to get our drink preferences. Well, the wrong Katie came out, but she cheerfully answered our questions and brought food & drink to us. The mozz stick appetizers were mid, drinks were what we expected, but I have ZERO complaints abt the service. Our sweet Katie (the one who almost tripped) eventually came out to see us..still visibly affected by her last encounter on the patio..and graciously allowed us to show her how normal people react when other patrons behave in such a rude manner. Her shift was almost over - we hugged and I told her I can't let her leave on a sour note (though I've been told I'm not the best hugger..still..HAD to be better than the way the Churchies treated her). Over an hour passed and I had to pee - on my way to the men's room, Sweet Katie was sitting w/another server - smiling & glowing as she was born to do - happily wrapping silverware in napkins to make life easier for the good people she works with. I guess this turned into something other than a restaurant review and more of a plea to my fellow world occupants to really embrace the idea that we can radiate good just as easily as we can bad. For whatever reason, bad seems more contagious. It's easy to fall into a self-absorbed existence and focus on what WE get - now that you've read my novel, make an effort to elevate concern for THEY instead. Holy Christ, went on Tuesday Evening and ran into the rudest bartender i have ever come across in 34 years of working in the industry.
