Not sure why this place doesn't have a five star rating. The food and service has been amazing the two times we have visited from out of town. A random Yelp find, we ordered the blackened salmon and a burger. The salmon is the best I have ever had. I feared the seasoning as I am not a pepper or spicy girl. It was neither. Whatever they use, it's perfect. The grilled seasonal vegetables that came with it were unique and top notch. On my second visit, I couldn't bring myself to order anything but the salmon - doubt I ever will. The mozzarella sticks were HUGE and filled with cheese. The wings were great too and our server was kind and prompt. The hostess took time to answer our questions about the history of the location and is the one who recommended the salmon. We later spoke to a manager who relayed it is fresh salmon that makes it so good - so much so that IU sports team request it frequently. The inside of the pub-like setting is spacious with different levels and sides. There is small outdoor seating where dogs are welcomed. The only negative is parking. There is very little street parking nearby and no adjoining parking lot. This can be a problem for this with mobility issues and in busy downtown days. I wish they could fix this issue. Highly recommend this enchanting restaurant.

Coach's Carved Turkey

Crazy Horse was overall a good experience. Went here with two friends on a Wednesday evening. We got the pulled pork nachos to share for appetizers and I got Coach's Carved Turkey for the main course. The nachos were good, but it is important to note that they were on potato chips, not tortilla chips. The carved turkey was a decent choice, but one of my friends got the Cajun Chicken Pasta and that is definitely the best choice at the restaurant. Service was good and pretty quick. It is a nice spot for a casual or even slightly formal event.

Cajun Chicken Pasta + veggies

Food: So good! This Cajun chicken pasta is great but I like adding veggies. I appreciated chef adding mushrooms, peppers, and onions for a small up charge. It really takes it up a notch. That grilled bread is perfection! Service: I've only sat at the bar during weekdays and every bartender has been attentive. Ambiance: Typical bar scene but they do have access to outdoor patio seating which I haven't taken advantage of. I appreciate this bar has pretty comfy stools and I have never, ever seen a fruit fly or gnat here. Will always come back on Wednesdays for their $3 Jack and Jameson special.

Was in the mood for some good ole fashioned Middle of the country American food. So I headed on over to Crazy Horse. Very conveniently located in the downtown area near campus, it's a fun pub vibe. Got a spicy margarita to start my dinner and it was fine, I actually don't know if there was any alcohol in it. But go here expecting mostly sandwiches and bar type food. The service was great and I sat outside since it was a pretty perfect night. I was feeling a burger (they have an entire page of the menu dedicated to it) and built one with Beer Cheese, bacon jam and poblano peppers. I was disappointed they recommend the burger to be cooked to medium but it wasn't too dry. The double burger was kind of hard to eat and a touch messy but that's the charm right? Overall it was a great burger with good flavor. I recommend checking it out if you are on campus for a game.

Go Fish and Chips

Fish and chips was delicious!!! Exactly what I needed. The sauce was great quality (I believe it was some type of tartar sauce). Artichoke dip with bread was a great appetizer as well. Atmosphere inside was nice and great vibes. The waitress could have been better but was definitely doable. Thank you!

Cajun Chicken Pasta

This place is known for their cajun chicken pasta, and for good reason. Cajun chicken pasta comes with a slice of charred bread and cajun sauce soaked pasta with big slices of juicy chicken. Everytime I come here, the whole table ends up getting cajun chicken pasta. If you've tried the Chili's cajun pasta, just imagine that but even better. I've also tried the fish and chips. They were super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I love them as well. I had a side of french fries. Not a picky french fry eater but I literally couldn't stop eating them. I dip it in my cajun pasta, it's so yum!

We stumbled upon this restaurant after paying for parking and realized we couldn't go to the restaurant a couple of doors down because someone in our group was not 21 yet. However, I genuinely believe we were meant to come here instead because my whole group was BLOWN AWAY by how great it was! We came in and were seated immediately at a clean table. It was 90-something degrees outside and we were coming from rock climbing, so we were all so hot and sweaty. Our server brought us water right away. I asked for some recommendations, and he told us the cajun pasta and wings were some of the most popular items on the menu. It took me too long to decide what I wanted because everything looked so good! I settled on the fish and chips partly because the kale slaw looked interesting to me. Luckily, my fiancé ordered the cajun pasta which meant I got to try it! My sister-in-law and her fiancé got the same things as us, and his sister got a burger and fries. The food did not take long to come out at all. It wasn't crowded inside, but there were a decent amount of tables for it not being quite mealtime yet, so we were thankful for the quickness in the kitchen. At first glance, we knew we had come to the right place. And from the first bite, we DEFINITELY knew we had! The fish and chips were AMAZING!! The tartar sauce was unlike any I've ever had. I don't even know if they would call it a tartar sauce because it was so different. However, I loved it, and couldn't stop dipping both my fish and fries into it! The lemon slice was the perfect amount to top all four of my large pieces of fish. The slaw went perfectly with the whole meal as well! It came with a piece of bread, but I didn't really eat it because I was so focused on everything else. My meal was perfect, but somehow my fiancé's meal was even more perfect. He insisted I tried a bite, and I was literally blown away. The sauce was decadent and had the perfect kick of garlic. The noodles were flawlessly cooked, and they even did have a bit of a spice that is missing in most cajun pasta! I am glad I got the fish and chips because my pasta would have gone too quickly, and I would be too full to enjoy because of how tasty it was! Our server was fantastic, and my whole table was thrilled with our experience. We noticed a sign that had a challenge to try all 80 beers within 6 months. If I lived in Bloomington, I would totally be doing that challenge, and I think it's so cool!! The vibes of the restaurant were good. It wasn't too loud, and the temperature was perfect considering how hot it was outside. Next time someone asks me for Bloomington recommendations, I am telling them to go there!!

located in a motel from 1880 filled with a lot of character large Beer selection to choose from. The service was good with the bar area and restaurant being separate from each other the food is excellent. Location is right downtown

Highly recommend! We stopped here while venturing around Bloomington and do not regret it. The pub style place was cool. It had indoor and outdoor seating options. We chose outside. It was fenced in and seating was comfy. Our service was outstanding. The food was amazing. Decent priced as well. If I ever come back to that town Crazy Horse will be on the list again for sure.

Mozzarella sticks
Kelsey C.

Out of all the reviews on here not a single one mentioned how terrible the ice water tastes! Which tells me people go here for the alcoholic drinks lol because it most definitely isn't the food. The mozzarella sticks were pretty good. The ranch dressing was great. That's about it. I had the classic chicken quesadilla. No seasoning whatsoever. Very very bland and came out lukewarm. Boyfriend had a burger and fries. I ordered beer cheese to dip with the fries. The beer cheese dip was grainy and bland. His burger was bland although it was cooked ok. The ice water was completely atrocious. Not a big deal to a lot of people, but as someone who drinks water 100% of the time when we go out to eat, yes I am going to include this in my review. I tried to drink it but it got worse with every sip. I can't even describe how terrible it was. Like dirt and metal tasting! Our waitress was very nice and friendly, she was just overworked with tables as it is everywhere. And we are understanding of that. But 2/5 would not recommend this place.

The food is pretty good. Fries are always great and their sliders are the best in town. But here is the bad: for the last year or so, the place stinks! I can only describe it as a burnt, rancid grease smell. It permeates the entire restaurant and sticks to clothes and hair. Don't plan on going anywhere afterward because you will stink. Please do something about the ventilation in the kitchen!

Really cool place - they have a ton of beer to try! Their beer menu (which was fully printed and…read moreavailable at our table - no scanning a QR code or squinting to read a board at the bar) had a whole page of beers by The Tap Brewery, followed by two pages of guest craft beer representing every major type of beer and with some unique options, all on tap. For drinks, cocktails (and a few mocktails) and a smaller selection of wine are also available. I wanted to get beer but I was kind of tempted by the cocktails. My first choice was a flight that included a mix of The Tap beers and guest beers, but the waiter came back after taking the order and told me that they could only do flights with their beers but could let me sample the beers I wanted to try, so I did that, and the samples were probably around 2 oz each so I basically got half a flight. After that, I ended up ordering a real flight of their beer. The Tap beers I tried were: Kill the Lights stout (regular and barrel-aged), Tapenator dark lager, Frost Bite winter ale, Nefarious Nectar blonde. Guest beers: Jacob Leinenkugel white mocha stout, Weihanstephaner Hefeweissbier, BrewDog Winter Staycation. Not going to waste space reviewing all of these, but they were all fantastic. I was really grateful that they let me sample so many! And they also have food. The menu isn't huge but does have some variety, and it's not just basic pub food. I had the ahi tuna crunch bowl and it was pretty good! It kind of had the vibe of stuff thrown together in a poke bowl, but it worked and I thought the fish was done really well. Our waiter was wonderful! He was really friendly and just the right amount of attentive. My friend and I stayed for a while talking after we had paid and he didn't rush us out at all. Granted, it was a pretty quiet night. We both really liked the vibe of the place. I would love to be back soon!

The first and only…read moretime I came here was because I am a sucker for roof decks, and this is the only place in Bloomington that has anything close to that. Anyway, I mosey on in on a Tuesday and am told that all drinks were $2. Damn. Blacked out underneath the eponymous stairs on an old cot some kindly doorman deposited me on, and next thing I know it's Wednesday. So I decided I'd head back up the stairs to the Upstairs Pub. Was promptly informed that Jello shots are a mere $2 each. So, rinse, repeat, understairs cot (cheap rent) and sleep and--voila--it is Thursday it is Upstairs Pub o'clock and now they are telling me the whole menu is $3. I think you know what happened. When I woke up Friday they told me that Coronas are only $2 any day of the week, and I'm free to sit on the porch and pretend I'm at the beach, even though I'm in the middle of Indiana, and the closest beach is a fetid lake and lakes don't have beaches they have shores. So I made the Pub my beach and I stayed the weekend and woke up on Monday and now they are telling me anything in a can is $3--including Sun King Osiris Pale Ale. This all happened a year ago. 11/10 close all the other bars. Only downside of the Pub is that a guy cannot survive subsisting on popcorn alone.

Upon arriving, we showed our IDs to the first bouncer, who directed us to a second bouncer for an additional ID check before entering the pub. The second bouncer reviewed my ID and approved me without issue. For context, I am a current graduate student at IU, born in 1997. He then examined my friend's ID. She was born in 1998, yet he told her that her ID was fake and attempted to confiscate it. My friend firmly insisted that the ID was legitimate and asked what she could do to verify her identity. The bouncer claimed that the ID did not look like her and stated that she could prove it by using Face ID on her phone -- a request that made no sense, as Face ID can be used by anyone with access to a phone and is not a valid form of identification. While this interaction was taking place, white women were continuously passing us in line without being subjected to the same scrutiny or additional ID checks. The bouncer did not stop or question them at all. It is important to note that in my friend's ID photo, she was wearing a blonde wig and eyelash extensions, which she was not wearing that night. Despite these differences, it was still very clear that the ID belonged to her. Eventually, the bouncer stated that he was done speaking with us and suggested that we take the issue up with management. Once inside the pub, the first employee we spoke to was dismissive. He waved his hand at us as if to shut down the conversation and said, "You're here, you can just stay." We explained that the issue was not about being allowed inside -- it was about being racially profiled and feeling unsafe and unwelcome spending money at the establishment. As we attempted to explain this, a man standing next to the employee aggressively turned toward me and shouted, "WHAT," in a threatening manner. As a woman, I felt unsafe and intimidated. Engaging in a confrontation with a visibly intoxicated man who could physically harm me was not an option. Another employee, Connor, eventually stepped in and attempted to provide some comfort. He expressed empathy and stated that although he is white, he understands what it feels like to be a minority. While he cannot fully understand the experience of being a minority in America, I did appreciate his effort to acknowledge our feelings and the fact that he was the only employee who showed us any compassion. Based on this experience, I encourage people of color to be cautious when supporting Upstairs Pub, as our treatment made it clear that this is not an environment where we felt respected, protected, or supported.
