Amazing and quiet video that is great for enjoying conversations with friends. Great list of specialty cocktails which includes both the classics, some house specialties, and seasonal drinks. The complementary kettle corn is also a great to snack on!

Awesome cocktails! The service is exemplary. The bartenders masters of their craft. Definitely on the go-to list for Bloomington.

This was a wonderful speakeasy! The ambience is nice and they were decorated for Halloween when we went. They offered popcorn, carmel and cheddar flavored, which I loved! They also provided a lemonade kind of drink along with our water which was a nice surprise. Our bartender was quick and the presentation for our drinks were excellent! I went for the bubble drinks (a large bubble that pops releasing smoke) and they have quite a few options. They're pretty strict about your 2 hr reservation, which was unfortunate, but understandable as there is limited space.

What a fantastic spot in Bloomington. Being big fans of speakeasy-style establishments, I was eager to try The Dunnkirk Library. My better half and her daughter have visited before and the descriptions just piqued my interest. Tucked away within a popular college bar you make your way to the hallway leading to the hidden entrance. This is a popular spot, be sure to make a reservation. The space is small and intimate, with several tables along the wall and great bar seating, which is where you want to be. The ambiance is welcoming and fun. Watching the talented bartenders craft the myriad delicious cocktails is, in itself, worth the visit. Friendly and more than happy to recommend something if you're not sure what you'd like. There are way too many choices to sample in just one 90-minute visit. The menu is fun to peruse while making your choices. You are bound to find a concoction to suit your fancy and it will be pretty amazing. The Dunnkirk Library is high up on my list of cocktail spots and I will make it a priority to spend some time here any time I return to Bloomington. Awesome and very highly recommended.

Great atmosphere - no worries about noise from the outside. Drinks are great - take some time to read the menu and allow yourself to be surprised with something new. Only request - a little food beyond the popcorn. A small cheese tray or something would be nice... Jake was my server last time. Good dude!

I don't want to give too many spoilers out, but we had a fantastic time celebrating my partner's birthday ! Going through the secret entrance to get into the lounge was the most fun for me. Our bartender was well versed in the drinks he was making for us and our hostess was super sweet ! It was really like going back in time - they even had silent movies playing ! The names of the drinks are fun and whimsical. But I ended up getting a pina colada to be safe. I'm glad I did, because getting it was quite a show !

This place is like wunderbar at San Mateo. Need reservation. strict rule about photography. You have to make a reservation first. There is also a time limit for you to be at the bar. The interior is nice, and the bartender was friendly. It takes a while for them to prepare the drink. This is the first time I see bartender take time to prepare the drink and so much stuff in the in the drink. It is so amazed how many ingredients to make a cocktail. Pretty much for 30 to 45 minutes, You might only get one drink. The drink was presented beautifully. If you are in the Bloomingtoon area, you should give it a try.

The Dunnkirk Library is the best bar in Bloomington by a landslide. It's very intimate, yet welcoming, and the staff ensure that you have the best experience possible. The reservation notes that your stay is for an hour and a half, but no one is watching the clock, waiting to kick you out - which is both professional, and very appreciated! The bartenders are so friendly and provide you with complimentary popcorn, water, and mocktails, which really adds to the experience. There are book menus with so many pages of organized cocktails, and you can't go wrong. Service is quick, and the presentation is fantastic. Definitely book a reservation!

Four women are gathered closely together, smiling at the camera in a room with walls lined with bookshelves filled with books. The lighting is warm and soft, creating a cozy atmosphere. The women have different hair colors and styles, and they appear to be enjoying a social moment in an intimate setting.

We are a group of alumni that come to Bloomington every summer for a reunion and to relive our college days. Sadly a few of our faves such as Irish Lion and Bears Place have closed, so we were looking for a new place to add to the itinerary. The service, ambiance and drinks were just what we needed. Can't wait to come back again.

The image shows a menu page from The Dunnkirk Library in Bloomington, IN, with a focus on cocktail and food offerings. The menu lists drinks such as Southside, Spiced Sour, and No Judo-mant, along with their ingredients and prices. The design includes a decorative illustration of a snake wrapped around a cocktail glass. The menu is printed on paper with a black and white border, and the text is organized into sections for easy reading.

Here's what you need to know: outstanding mixology and service. Incredible ambience. Just fantastic, that would rivals elegant bar scenes in the mega cities of the US. Our mixologist (1 of only 2) , Heather was just awesome and made some of the most balanced and enjoyable cocktails for us. She was so knowledgeable and so generous with her thoughts and time to create perfect drinks. The spirits list is excellent and expansive and even had some extravagant offerings like pappy 10x which you would never find In a college town. The only thing I would say was a poor part of the experience was the hostess who had an awful demeanor, and was just plain unfriendly, stand offish and robotic. Even the bathroom is very elegant but needs better paper towels, rather than thin bi-fold restaurant napkins :) Just a fantastic experience overall. We'll priced at $15-$20 cocktails

Holy Dewey Decimal, those librarians know what they are doing behind the bar! ***it's inside the Upstairs Pub, so go on up*** When you make a reservation, you have a 2 hour slot. You can be late, but you can't stay late. When we were seated we were given a water and a complimentary non alcoholic cocktail to sip on while we waited to order. We were also offered cheddar and caramel popcorn or cheddar and jalapeño popcorn to snack on. The menu is extensive! It's also pretty dark, so old people like me should study the menu before arriving ;) Don't be That Guy who uses the flashlight on his phone! The rules are pretty fun - speak easy in the speakeasy, don't be a creep, and don't use a flash or take calls. The cocktails are delicious and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Step into an alternate reality. This is a great location hidden inside the upstairs pub. The cocktails are works of art and reasonably priced. The "librarians" are very attentive and do a great job of suggesting what you might like. You also get complimentary popcorn mix. What brought us here though was the ability to get your picture printed in Guinness foam! (And then you drink the Guinness). There is a QR code that you scan and you upload a picture. Do make reservations as they have very few tables so they can fill up quickly. One good thing to know is that if you make a reservation at 5 but don't get there till 5:30 it just means they shorten your stay. You are reserving a two hour time slot.

Such a fun girls night or date night spot! Great decor and drinks were amazing and very fun to try. Got great popcorn and definitely a great nighttime activity to switch things up!

The weekend we went happened to be Bloomington Pride, so this place was packed. A fun mixture of college students, 20 something's, and older folks. You enter through a tall fence off of an alleyway, so I'm guessing it's challenging to find if you don't know where you're going, but that's part of the fun. Of the 4 lesbian bars we've been to, this place wins for best decor hands down. We're talking zebra print walls, stuffed unicorn heads, yonic art, glow in the dark paint. Great vibes. They have a super cute outdoor patio as well, and I loved the little food truck on the patio that opens at 9 pm! Great waffle fries and hot sandwiches. Nothing hits as right as hot cheese when you're drunk. They have tons of fun specialty drinks on a menu behind the bar! Also a great mocktail menu for the sober community! Everyone was super welcoming in this space. The one complaint I have is the Dj... we came here to dance the night away and barely made it to 11 pm because the DJ didn't play any recognizable songs or songs with a dancing beat. There were only around 10 people on the dance floor at a given time. On the other hand, this is the first lesbian bar I've been in that has had an operational dance floor with anyone on it, so that's a win. I can't wait to come back again the next time I visit Bloomington!

For drinks, cocktails (and a few mocktails) and a smaller selection of wine are also available. I wanted to get beer but I was kind of tempted by the cocktails. My first choice was a flight that included a mix of The Tap beers and guest beers, but the waiter came back after taking the order and told me that they could only do flights with their beers but could let me sample the beers I wanted to try, so I did that, and the samples were probably around 2 oz each so I basically got half a flight. After that, I ended up ordering a real flight of their beer. The Tap beers I tried were: Kill the Lights stout (regular and barrel-aged), Tapenator dark lager, Frost Bite winter ale, Nefarious Nectar blonde. Guest beers: Jacob Leinenkugel white mocha stout, Weihanstephaner Hefeweissbier, BrewDog Winter Staycation. Not going to waste space reviewing all of these, but they were all fantastic. I was really grateful that they let me sample so many! And they also have food. The menu isn't huge but does have some variety, and it's not just basic pub food. I had the ahi tuna crunch bowl and it was pretty good! It kind of had the vibe of stuff thrown together in a poke bowl, but it worked and I thought the fish was done really well. Our waiter was wonderful! He was really friendly and just the right amount of attentive. My friend and I stayed for a while talking after we had paid and he didn't rush us out at all. Granted, it was a pretty quiet night. We both really liked the vibe of the place. I would love to be back soon!

Anyway, I mosey on in on a Tuesday and am told that all drinks were $2. Damn. Blacked out underneath the eponymous stairs on an old cot some kindly doorman deposited me on, and next thing I know it's Wednesday. So I decided I'd head back up the stairs to the Upstairs Pub. Was promptly informed that Jello shots are a mere $2 each. So, rinse, repeat, understairs cot (cheap rent) and sleep and--voila--it is Thursday it is Upstairs Pub o'clock and now they are telling me the whole menu is $3. I think you know what happened. When I woke up Friday they told me that Coronas are only $2 any day of the week, and I'm free to sit on the porch and pretend I'm at the beach, even though I'm in the middle of Indiana, and the closest beach is a fetid lake and lakes don't have beaches they have shores. So I made the Pub my beach and I stayed the weekend and woke up on Monday and now they are telling me anything in a can is $3--including Sun King Osiris Pale Ale. This all happened a year ago. 11/10 close all the other bars. Only downside of the Pub is that a guy cannot survive subsisting on popcorn alone.

Upon arriving, we showed our IDs to the first bouncer, who directed us to a second bouncer for an additional ID check before entering the pub. The second bouncer reviewed my ID and approved me without issue. For context, I am a current graduate student at IU, born in 1997. He then examined my friend's ID. She was born in 1998, yet he told her that her ID was fake and attempted to confiscate it. My friend firmly insisted that the ID was legitimate and asked what she could do to verify her identity. The bouncer claimed that the ID did not look like her and stated that she could prove it by using Face ID on her phone -- a request that made no sense, as Face ID can be used by anyone with access to a phone and is not a valid form of identification. While this interaction was taking place, white women were continuously passing us in line without being subjected to the same scrutiny or additional ID checks. The bouncer did not stop or question them at all. It is important to note that in my friend's ID photo, she was wearing a blonde wig and eyelash extensions, which she was not wearing that night. Despite these differences, it was still very clear that the ID belonged to her. Eventually, the bouncer stated that he was done speaking with us and suggested that we take the issue up with management. Once inside the pub, the first employee we spoke to was dismissive. He waved his hand at us as if to shut down the conversation and said, "You're here, you can just stay." We explained that the issue was not about being allowed inside -- it was about being racially profiled and feeling unsafe and unwelcome spending money at the establishment. As we attempted to explain this, a man standing next to the employee aggressively turned toward me and shouted, "WHAT," in a threatening manner. As a woman, I felt unsafe and intimidated. Engaging in a confrontation with a visibly intoxicated man who could physically harm me was not an option. Another employee, Connor, eventually stepped in and attempted to provide some comfort. He expressed empathy and stated that although he is white, he understands what it feels like to be a minority. While he cannot fully understand the experience of being a minority in America, I did appreciate his effort to acknowledge our feelings and the fact that he was the only employee who showed us any compassion. Based on this experience, I encourage people of color to be cautious when supporting Upstairs Pub, as our treatment made it clear that this is not an environment where we felt respected, protected, or supported.

During my college years, a good portion of my Bloomington memories are from the Bluebird. Fantastic bands, good friends and a somewhat aggressive number of drinks were the common theme multiple nights a week. Now that I'm OLD(er) the visits are less frequent, but when the right bands are in town and my calendar isn't slammed with adulting, I still find the Bird to be my favorite place in town. The original Bluebird was about half the size it is today. Several years ago, they bought out the restaurant next door and added a large additional space, leading to a pretty big bar/nightclub with a 'bar area' that includes a nice full bar, booths and tables, and the 'live music' portion which has a big stage, plenty of room for big crowds, and a warehouse vibe that is second to none. When you arrive, you'll start to see pictures of the amazing acts that run thru the Bluebird when they're just on the cusp of being 'huge' - from REM to Miranda Lambert to Gryffin, just about every genre is represented and it's nice to say 'I saw them with a few hundred of my friends' after you give ticketmaster your kidney to pay for their giant stadium shows. Reasonable drink prices, good people behind the bar, and the best bands currently playing the area, you can't go wrong with a night at the Bluebird. I wish I was still young and able to do multiple shows every week, but for now I'll just appreciate having it in my backyard so I can attend with the mood hits . Best bar in Bloomington.
