If Yelp allowed zero stars, that would be my rating. My wife and I took our two daughters to Inkwell for breakfast around 9:00 a.m. on a Sunday. It was busy. That's fine. It's Sunday morning in downtown Bloomington. Busy happens. What followed was not "busy." It was astonishingly poor service and even worse problem-solving. My wife and daughters ordered, and then we waited. After AN HOUR, my wife went inside to ask what was happening. She was told, "Sorry, the IU basketball team is here. Let me see what happened." Apparently the arrival of the IU basketball team creates some kind of breakfast singularity in which ordinary customers cease to exist. The employee said they would check. They never came back. Another 45 minutes passed. So after ONE HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES, my wife and daughter -- both of whom had been loyal Inkwell customers -- were left feeling like they simply did not matter because more important people had walked through the door. That is what makes this experience so disappointing. Restaurants get busy. Orders get lost. Mistakes happen. But when you discover that a family has been waiting an hour, tell them you will investigate, disappear for another 45 minutes, and then offer essentially no apology, urgency, ownership, or attempt to make things right, that is not a kitchen problem. That is a customer-service problem. Eventually they agreed to refund us. So the single star is awarded because Inkwell did, in fact, return our money after failing to provide breakfast and did not lock the doors to prevent our escape. Cherish it. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in Bloomington. Couple of things that make it stand out: 1. The ambience is great. It's easy to go there and work if you like the noise to keep you focused. 2. Drinks AND food - and both are great. All day breakfast - need I say more?? 3. The staff is incredibly friendly. I've never had a bad experience with the staff. UGH, i love when I find a good latte place when I travel.......i got a ice vanilla latte (+$1 for oat milk). We didn't have breakfast here but there was a good amount of people eating so we'll have to return here if we come visit Bloomington again. What a neat place to visit when in Bloomington! Came here for breakfast as we were looking for a place to eat that wasn't a chain. When we walked up there was a line basically outside the door. You must order at the cash register and get a number and take it to your table. Thankfully while it was packed there is plenty of seating and we didn't have trouble finding a table for 3. The menu isn't super vast but the choices are solid for coffee drinks, breakfast and lunch bites. I ordered the avocado scrambler which was really good. It came with toast. We stumbled upon this cafe as we were looking for a good cafe to grab coffee before the college football game in Indiana University! It is a cute cafe located in college town. I felt they were a bit under staffed. There was a ridiculous long queue to place our order, however once we placed the order, it did not take a lot of time for them to deliver our food. They have a lot of breakfast options, I ordered a veggie sandwich and Lavender Latte with almond milk. They have very limited Vegan food options. My sandwich was loaded with veggies - tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach and smashed avocado and smoked gouda. The bread was slightly dry for my taste. Inkwell is just lacking all the drinks that I am looking for in a coffee house. What they have is good, but I want more sugary mixed coffee drinks. The day I went there, their espresso machine was getting repaired so there was an even bigger limit on drinks. The other thing I don't like is that you have to get the drinks yourself, but they don't call out any names. You have to pay attention. One of my favorite things is treating myself to breakfast by myself, which is what I did at The Inkwell the last time I was in Bloomington. It wasn't crowded at all, but it wasn't empty, and I was able to find a little table off to the side and just enjoy by breakfast. I got a cup of black coffee, which you can dispense yourself from one of the two carafes (there's a medium roast and a dark roast). I also got their breakfast sandwich speciality: the Broken Yolk Sandwich. It's two runny eggs, cheddar cheese and Sriracha mayonnaise on sourdough. Delicious! I love jammy eggs, and these were perfectly cooked. They had many appetizing-looking baked goods (like house-made pop tarts and blueberry muffins), but I was so stuffed and satisfied with my breakfast sandwich that I opted not to get a sweet treat. The coffee and food here is consistently good. The matcha is fabulous and today I tried a raspberry latte which was very yummy. They have a great assortment of tasty pastries. The ambience is great and I love coming here to lock into my Kelley brain. This morning we had breakfast at The Inkwell in Bloomington. It's such a cute coffee shop ! They serve coffees and teas, as well as pastries and other breakfast/lunch items. I had an iced chai latte and a chocolate chip scone. The scone was hands down the best I've ever had. Typically I'm not a scone person. However, I seen them and thought of my dad so I had to partake. All I ordered from here was a Sugar-Free Vanilla Oatmilk Latte and it was seriously the best latte I have ever had. I am not sure what they do to make it so great, but I had the sun beaming down on me while I sat outside on their patio and was sipping a hot latte and I could not be more appeased! MUST TRY LATTE FOLKS!!! Although I did not get any of the food items, they did have plenty to choose from, most of which were very affordable. Love, love, love! This place has been open for about a year, and I feel like this is exactly what the downtown square needed. The staff are super friendly and sweet, the space was stunning and warm, and the menu is great. They have a full breakfast and lunch menu that is available until 3pm. They have a delicious-looking display of baked goods including muffins, scones, homemade poptarts and more. I scored a Cinnamon Raisin scone and it was INCREDIBLE. Yummmmm. These are still available to get after 3pm too. There's a bar that you can saddle up to, many small tables to work at, and a big back room. Every time I head to Bloomington, I seem to find the coolest, local businesses and I can't wait to return to this one! read more
