On this particular outing a friend was eager to take my husband and I to his favorite coffee shop in his hometown of Bloomington, ID. Hopscotch Coffee & Kitchen sits right in along the Bloomington Rail Trail. The setting of the cafe is calm, inviting, and simple. A large porch welcomes you to the shop; it's obviously a local favorite. When you enter the shop the coffee bar is to the right, comfortable couch seating along with work tables and cafe tables are to the left. If you want something more than a coffee and a treat there is a restaurant towards the back on your left. The cortado was delicious and the company was priceless. I hope you're able to share a cortado with someone soon. It's a good way to turn something ordinary into something special. Enjoying life one cortado at a time! read more

Very slow, snail slow on whipping up a luke warm latte, salted caramel is the featured latte that tasted good, but say it was luke warm is being overly generous on the heat. Definitely the college vibe of the decade, no one talks and has their faces on a Saturday planted in the computer. If not being socially inclined just sit in the dorm/apartment. The sweets were pricey but tasty. You can sit on the porch, inside or get out of there (never liked tolerated but liked a place so much as this spot). The cashier was swamped, asked about her having help, which I was told she was cleaning (4p), but she finally slithered over to help get orders rolling. read more

The service is impeccable. The baristas are lovely and very helpful! The vibes were definitely college town, so as someone who was just visiting the city, I felt nostalgic to my old college years, haha. I don't know if it was a bad batch or what, but my latte wasn't great. I think it was the syrup. It didn't really taste like maple syrup at all. It was kind of metallic-y in a way. I would be interested in trying some of their other house made syrups if I'm in the area! read more

This is a delightful coffee house. There is plenty of room inside to sit but it also has a great wraparound deck. Believe it or not, there is a real video game machine of Burgertime inside and if you remember that game, you may be eligible for membership in AARP There are two sides to the establishment. You get your fancy coffee drinks on the one side and your food on the other, although you can get basic coffee on the food side and basic food on the coffee side. Yes, it confused me a little, too. The food and coffee menu is much more extensive than you might think so check out the online menu, if you can. We tried a chocolate cruffin that was very nice and a couple of iced coffee drinks that were also good. Service was very friendly. It's located in a residential neighborhood so it feels kind of secluded and cozy. Well worth a visit. read more

Hopscotch Coffee is the most adorable grab-and-go coffee shop, nestled into a strip mall near Indiana University. There's no private parking, so we had to park on the street, but luckily, you don't have to pay for parking on Sundays! I wanted to try something unique and refreshing, and I found the perfect drink to satisfy my craving: the Long Island strawberry iced tea. It had a sweet, fruity aroma, and it tasted like a fresh summer strawberry from the garden. I don't usually love green tea because it always tastes too watered-down to me, but this tea was actually very flavorful. The tea also had enough caffeine to keep me awake during my sister's gymnastics meet! It was only $2.75 for a 16-oz cup, which is a pretty reasonable price compared to chain shops like Starbucks. I love supporting local businesses, and places like Hopscotch make it so easy to! read more

Not from the area but have gone there the last two times we've been visiting Bloomington and coffee is delicious. The service is phenomenal and to be able to sit outside. My friend and I met here for coffee. We had the pumpkin pie latte. It was better than any one we've had because it truly was like liquid pie. It seemed to be a popular place. There was not a lot of seating. There was a party in one section of the building, so this closed off a big area of seating and that was rather loud. It would probably help the ambiance by having a door between the rooms. The server at the counter was pleasant. I did wish that our coffees would've been in proper mugs instead of paper to go cups because we were staying a while. I failed to take pictures while there. Sorry everyone. While on a little weekend getaway with my better half while visiting family, her daughter suggested Hopscotch Coffee as a breakfast stop. Wow! What a great little spot. Perfectly Bloomington - charming, friendly, spacious and relaxing. A smallish but nicely varied menu offers something for everyone. I opted for the Hop Bacon, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich which featured a tasty blend of Provolone Cheese, avocado, tomato, arugula, and aioli with a really tasty little side bowl of salad. Delicious. The coffee bar in the adjacent room is spacious and you'll find any variety of coffees and teas available. My Americano was just right and something I will order again any time I am here. My girl ordered a chai tea latte which also came out perfectly with a nice foamy design on top. There is plenty of seating both inside and on the nice patio / porch that offers a really relaxing space to hang out, enjoy your coffee and a good book. This could easily be a regular spot for me and I know I will spend more time here. Service is great. Everyone is friendly and helpful with suggestions. Hopscotch Coffee needs to be on you list of morning spots for your coffee and noshing fix ( or any time of day, really ). Highly recommended! read more

This is our favorite breakfast spot in Bloomington. They have a wide variety of vegan options and they're all freaking delicious. My personal favorite is the tofu scramble with potatoes and toast, but the vegan breakfast sandwich is also amazing. That mushroom bacon OMG . Additionally, the coffee is perfect every time.. they literally cannot make a bad cup. We also really enjoy the atmosphere, and the people who work there are always friendly and welcoming. This is my coffee enthusiast friend's favourite coffee shop in town and he took me here for a quick coffee stop. On the right is the coffee bar and food is served out of the kitchen on the left - we only got drinks so this is solely a review of the coffee shop side. It's a cute, comfortable place with lots of seating options inside and out (couches and tables inside. It was a sunny day so we sat at the high-top counter on the patio and it was really nice. My decaf iced americano was good! The flavour was really smooth and drinkable but still full-bodied. I don't drink regular coffee except when I really need a boost but I can appreciate that they have two coffees on offer (which rotate) plus a decaf, and they looked like interesting blends. Super cute patio, lots of space to meet with people. There is a cafe as well that seemed to have great lunch options! I originally ordered a lavender oat matcha (which is very standard for me, that's usually my baseline for judging a coffee shop) and was shocked to not like it. Lavender doesn't usually taste soapy to me, but this one did. The baristas were SO kind and made me a new matcha, on the house, with vanilla. Was absolutely delicious. Ordered a 16 oz lavender latte with regular milk. Went around 11 am and it was pretty busy, not many places to sit. The lavender syrup is very good and not overly sweet, can definitely get the taste of espresso. I would order 1/2 sweet if you aren't big on syrups, but I do think they charge extra for that maybe because it's a modification (I'm not sure, but I was charged last time when I asked for 1/2 sweet). Definitely check it out and if you're wanting to get some work done, I recommend going earlier in the day when it's not too busy. read more

My maple chai latte was delicious. Hopscotch prepares their drinks very well; I've always been pleased with my orders. Seating can be sparse in Hopscotch, and if you are lucky enough to get a table you soon realize that you are just too close to other customers. It can take away from the cozy feel of other coffee shops. Their conversations become yours and vice versa. Just a little too loud which is surprising considering the ample space they have to work with. Pricing can also be a bit of an issue here. After a small tip I spent around $12 for two small drinks. They are very good, but the cost to portion is a little rough. read more

Decent coffee and vegan food options. My visit here was influenced by two things: 1) our Airbnb included a coupon for a free coffee drink for each of us, redeemable at this nearby coffee shop. 2) the friend I was visiting town with is vegan and was excited to see what breakfast goods they had that fit in to her diet choices. So in the morning, we walked over from our Airbnb and grabbed ourselves a breakfast of each of our choices. This is a cute little neighborhood and Hopscotch certainly fits right in/a coffee shop was a must for this area. I can't speak to parking options, as we walked there. I opted for a specialty latte and a donut to start my day. The coffee was decent and the breakfast pastry hit the spot, just the right amount of sweetness. It is a bit bigger on the inside than I expected it to be. But we opted to grab a seat at a table outside on the wrap around porch. Great for people watching along the B-Line Trail. read more

I get their green smoothies every time! Great for finishing a workout after jogging/walking/exercising the b-line trail. The b-line trail is literally next to the shop :). Kale smoothie you only get a 16 oz cup. Matcha smoothie you get 12 oz. The matcha smoothie is always cold. The Kale smoothie not so much. I asked the cashier to blend ice in it if possible and she did :). Way better imo. The green smoothies in general are mixed with a banana flavor as well. I highly recommend coming here on a Saturday, and somehow working in a distillery tasting at Cardinal spirits next door, and a walk on the Bline trail with your visit. You can either do a tasting and then coffee and food afterwards at hopscotch or you could have brunch at hopscotch and then go to the tasting afterwards and come get coffee when you're done. This is a sweet location with plenty of parking. It's a bit far from IU but worth the drive for amazing creative organic food and a fabulous cause, good selection and study area. It has a very kid friendly play area and waiting room. See pics. Really a fabulous location for studying, weekend brunch or breakfast/lunch. They recently expanded their alcohol selection. Their San Antonio Style Avo toast with Tajin & orange segments is delicious! The ambience is retro chic with a Stranger Things meets Instamatic vibe. The crew seems tight and professional. read more

I really like this place. I love to get a hot matcha latte with oat milk and the Scottish breakfast tea and one of their vegan meals. Delicious and just the right amount of food. I think this is the only place in town besides The Owlery that consistently has vegan options and doesn't have television screens. I with the kitchen were open later, as I prefer to go out after 2, but that's life. I even brought guests here, and they enjoyed it. I saw this coffee place on TikTok and I wanted to try it out. I used iPhone maps to get us there and it did take us to the back of the place, but after a little bit more investigating, there seemed to be free/ public parking in the front of the shop. The coffee shop has great seating (tables, couches, bar, etc) and would be a great place to meet with friends or do some work. The workers were super sweet and they also had an assortment of sweet treats that I wish I had tried. I absolutely love Coffee and Lavender when done correctly and this place knows how to do it! I got a 12 oz. Lavender Americano which was great! Often times lavender can be drowned out or overpowering, but this was the perfect amount and you got that sweet aftertaste! I will definitely be going back to this place and highly recommend trying it out if you are in the area! read more

I've only been here for coffee, twice now, but I can't seem to get past the cardamom latte. Cardamom is one of my favorite spices and I've never had it in my coffee before. Definitely delicious and unlike anything you'll get anywhere else. On the pricey side, much like a Starbucks tier. But worth it ! They have two sizes for their coffees: 12oz and 16oz. They offer all kinds of craft coffees and teas, but they also have drip coffee available. The treats they offer are provided by the rainbow bakery, another place I have on my foodie bucket list to try ! Connected to their coffee house is a brunch place. Lovely place. I enjoyed lunch in the Hopscotch Kitchen then an afternoon coffee in the other area while I worked. The menu has a handful of nutritious and intriguing options. I had the avocado toast which had a bit of a kick and a very interesting component - orange slices! This actually was nice in balancing out the spice. But, here's the thorn in my side and reason for -1 star: the bread is not toasted. I wondered if it was an error, but based on pics it doesn't seem so. This is AVOCADO BREAD. Toast would be better. Located off of the B line, breakfast is on the left side of hopscotch in what is called "hopscotch kitchen" and espresso is located on the right. They have lots of vegan options that are delicious. I got the rainbow breakfast sandwich, my friend got their traditional breakfast, and we split their pancakes which were absolutely amazing! I think we licked our plates clean. You order at the counter and take a number to your seat. We also went to the espresso bar and had their coffee which is made in-house and all around great! This place must be amazing when the weather is nice and the patio is open! Very excited to come back then :) The coffee shop side is also a great place to get some work done or study but when I tell you it was packed on a Saturday morning, it was PACKED. I love this place. it feels like family. coffee's great. barista's are my buddies. the porch in the summertime is heavenly. It's a wonderful place for a hang, a date, a study group. One frustrating element (which is not the fault of the shop, and therefore I don't dock a star) is the lawn maintenance that happens practically daily and causes issues to my already fragile attention. Very occasionally, the disruption lasts for and hour or longer. But generally it's a daily disruption of around 20 minutes at an unpredictable time. Gotta look out for my fellow attention-challenged kin. Otherwise it's a good solid spot where I find a lot of jocular connection and good study vibes. read more

As a traveler, I want and enjoy GREAT coffee! You can find the cabin coffee shops anywhere, but I'm not a big fan of their coffee. So, I buy my coffee from a local toaster/coffee shop at home. But I've been away from home long enough to run out of coffee. So, I researched and asked about this place. I was helped by a wonderful barista who suggested which coffee beans I should get. She even gave me a sample tasting. They ground the beans for me. I brought the beans back to my hotel room and made coffee with my aero press. The Weekender blend is great! I also purchased a cup of cortado...I really enjoyed it (see my photos). I will definitely buy coffee from here again when I travel back to Bloomington. read more

We came on our way home from a camping trip over Memorial Day weekend during COVID. We pulled up, called and asked how their ordering process worked. They let us know that we order on their website, make a note that we're outside and ready for pickup, and they'll expedite the making process. I went with the Cobra Verde, made from green coffee beans, with a fizzy gingery mix. It was the perfect mix of refreshing, tangy and a touch spicy from the ginger. A great drink and something I've never had before! Friends got other iced coffee drinks and they said they were equally delicious. The pickup process was a breeze during COVID: you order, they place your order on their front porch, and they have mix-ins outside for you (i.e. straws, stir sticks, sweeteners). I believe that there was a ramp to get into the pickup area, but if not, be sure to include in your notes section when you order that you need someone to bring it out and I'm sure they'd be happy to accommodate to those that may struggle with using stairs.
