Within the San Leandro city limits, there are tons of little family owned diners, each with its own value. Cozy Kitchen's to me is simple: simple breakfast, served fast and hot. I had eggs over easy, wheat toast and a huge helping of crispy hashbrowns. I didn't ask for extra hashbrowns, so the potato to dollar value is high judging by the amount they serve as a single order. Eggs were fresh, not too runny, and blended quite well with the potatoes. Service was very pleasant and quick. This is a classic mom and pop type of diner tucked away next to the dollar tree and doesn't even have its name on the sign. The food was good for the most part: eggs over medium and sausages were fantastic. The waffle was chewy and tasted cold and not fresh. The French toast were pretty good. No, I can not give more than three stars to this place, even though the service is nice and the prices are okay. Nor could I see myself going back often even though it's so close to home. I am at a loss for a descriptive reason that highlights how Cozy Kitchen is anything but your slightly less than average little dinner. Last week, I decided I needed a bigger breakfast than usual after a training run. The little one and I hit up two usual Manor breakfast spots and lines were out the door. 5 stars for my experience I go to this place a bbn out 3 times a month, I always order to go because that's my preference, the interior is outdated but the place is clean, service is great , the wife takes my order and brings it to me all pop packed up and ready to go , the food is fresh and home made you can see the Male cooking it, my kid always get a no.1 with blueberry pancakes 2 sausages and a egg rate 9 the pancakes are great I've tried them before. I have been craving for a quick, inexpensive, and good breakfast restaurant and decided to try Cozy Kitchen in San Leandro. I love this place. I dine in and call in orders all the time. The French toast is amazing. Everything is cooked to order and the married couple that owns the place is so nice and friendly. I wish they were opened on Sundays but they are not "Not open on the Lord's Day" as their to-go menu says. The prices are reasonable and you get a big portion of food for the little price you pay. Ok, I secretly want to either not post this review or lie and say this place sucks. Why? Because it is super tiny and I love that I don't have to wait for the awesome breakfast I finally disovered. My husband tried it out with a co-worker earlier this week and called me to rave about it. We made a date this Saturday morning and I was not disappointed - well... I ordered the blueberry pancakes and bacon, both of which kicked ass! These were the best blueberry pancakes I can recall ever having in a diner and they do not skimp on the berries. The bacon was not gourmet but of a higher quality than average and you can tell they press it on the grill, which I like. Also, the coffee was good and carried such a jolt I was about to chew my tongue off halfway through the second cup. I will always comment on the cleanliness of a place because that is paramount to my deciding to return. In fact, I've walked in and out of many places based just on my first impression of smell. But I'm not a snob, really. Despite the fact that this joint likely has not updated anything since possibly the 40s or 50s if you look closely you'll notice it is impeccably clean. Like, impeccably. So why 3 stars? -We had to ask for water and when it came the glasses were small, about 6 oz. and no ice. It took us a long time for a refill. They don't bring a pitcher they take your glass and disappear with it. You don't know if it will return. -They provided milk/creamer in the little pitcher thing but I think it only had about 3 tablespoons it it. That's all you get. It is not refilled. I suppose I could have asked but the pancakes were more important at the time. -The place is a dive. Perfectly :) They also serve lunch, I don't remember about dinner. I will absolutely be back for breakfast and I would like to try their lunch. I'll bring my own milk if I have to. read more

It's a very small (cozy) place, very classic... even the stereo was from the 60's... but their food was quite good (for basic, classic breakfast). Eggs, toast, linguisa for me, short stack for him. I'm always suggesting that we have breakfast here. It is indeed a cozy kitchen! The waitress is very nice. The food is between OK and good. The price is right. I like the place! Yeah, it's seen better days and could be remodel led, but maybe it'd lose it's charm? No, keep everything as it is. Every single time we visited, the female owner, who is also sometimes the cook and the server, was always unfriendly to my client and I. She has this pasty expression. She never asks how you are, she never smiles, she never says thank you...her presence is an anathema. I normally ignore her sparkling personality, but this time, my elderly friend actually said something (not me)...that this person was not only rude, but cold. She didn't even ask us what kind of toast we wanted. She just slapped down this bland, stone ground tasting wheat bread with hardly any butter. She never checked on us at all. Had a strange and somewhat awkward experience here this morning at the Cozy Kitchen. I have never been here before and I very much wanted to like the place. When I first walked in I wasn't greeted at all and didn't know if I had to seat myself or needed to wait to be seated. After a while I decided to seat myself. The lady then came behind the counter and placed a menu on the table without saying anything at all or even ask me if I wanted anything to drink and just walked off. I asked her if I could get an additional menu because I was meeting with an additional party and she stopped and then proceeded to keep walking as if she didn't hear me and didn't come back. After a couple minutes I got up and left. I can't comment on the food, because I never got the chance to order anything, but the Cozy Kitchen can definitely improve on their customer service and do a better job making their customers feel welcomed! read more

Cozy's has been around since i was just a little girl. Almost my whole life. I remember Jenny and Dave (the owners and people who run the place) cooked breakfast for my aunts entire wedding party of about 30 people the day of her wedding. We have been going there faithfully every weekend ever since. It is a small cozy laid back, family oriented place. The food is amazing. They have had the same small menu for years and years and have really perfected everything on it! The hasbrowns are to die for and once you try them you'll never want to try any other hashbrowns again in your life! From their omelets to their blueberry pancakes they are delicious! This is not a big fancy gourmet place with fancy looking plated plates it is your old fashioned place where the plates look like your granny just cooked up that home cooked meal and served you! This place has been in business for years and mainly serves their local patrons. Jenny and Dave are spectacular at remembering their customers and even what their regular customers like to order.
