We were starving on the drive from Boston to Maine and decided to stop in Newburyport. It's a cute town, with plenty of opportunities to shop and eat, though many restaurants seemed to close between lunch and dinner. The restaurant itself is quite homey, and it's an authentic Korean spot. I was a bit taken aback at the lack of banchan, though the woman who runs it is quite welcoming and offered small bites of (in her words) kimchi freshly made by her sister. She recommended that we order 1 dish per person, so we opted for five to share. As each item came out, we were quite frankly astonished at the small portion sizes. I don't think anyone would be full off of the beef bulgogi alone - especially when not accompanied by rice - and the kimchi fried rice was surprisingly small as well. On top of that, there was certainly sticker shock at the sky-high prices. The menus we found pictures of online were several years and dollars outdated, so here's what we paid for each item: scallion pancake ($20 for 8 slices), beef bulgogi ($32), kimchi fried rice ($20), bibimbap ($20), and kalguksu ($26). Went here for my birthday and what an absolute treat of an experience. Service is unfussy but incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is great. The food is the real star though. Literally everything is delicious. Man Du in all forms were outstanding, the bi bim bap was perfect and literally everything we ate was excellent. Can't recommend this place highly enough. read more

We stopped by Cozy Kimchi for lunch on Sunday afternoon. It wasn't too busy and we got seated quickly by the window. We ordered the man du (steamed dumplings) and the dol sot bibim bap. There's an additional charge if you want to add a protein option. We added tofu ($3) and beef ($5). The man du was a delicious appetizer to start with. The bibim bap came out quickly. The rice was perfectly crunchy in the stone pot. I enjoyed their homemade kimchi they brought out to our table. The service was great, our waitress and hostess were very friendly. Cozy Kimchi has become one of my favorite spots in Newburyport. Haven't had anything bad here. The fried kimchi mandu are a must try. They make their own kimchi here and converted me from not a fan of kimchi to loving their kimchi. Beef bulgogi is great but the dot sot bibim bap had to be my favorite. It comes out in a sizzling hot bowl and toasts the rice and veggies as you eat it. On top of that the crew here is super friendly and even remembered us after visiting only one time before. First of all, id say service is very slow off the bat. However, when the waitress does come, she is very nice, welcoming and helpful. To start things off with appetizers, the man du (dumplings) were really good. I got the fried version, and they were perfectly crunchy. For entrees, the regular fried rice is solid. Simple and tasty. The dolsot bibimbap was amazing. I had never tried it before, but it didnt disappoint. For addons, i got chicken. The hot and crunchy rice was like a warm hug. The only thing that gives it 4 stars and not a 5 is the price. Beware, they are really pricey here. Ambiance is nothing special, yet nothing bad. Do I recommend this place? Potato noodles were ordered and instant ramen noodles were served- these were not the traditional potato noodles we were expecting. Food was pricey for portions. Amazing food!! We loved everything! The coconut shrimp was incredible! Fabulous new restaurant in Newburyport center. My husband ordered the Kalbi (beef dish) and he said it was the best he has ever had! We also ordered kimchi rice - delicious, dumplings (Mandu) also really good! They also give you small Korean side dishes complimentary (cucumbers, kimchi, vegetables, and some other yummy treats) to start. So good!!!! The food was great, the kimchi pancake, the Man Du, and beef bulgolgi were all very tasty. Prices are high for what you are getting. The bill came out to 105 dollars after a 20% tip. My wife and I got a glass of wine, a beer, 2 appetizers, (4 fried dumplings and a kimchi pancake) and beef bulgolgi. Portions weren't huge or anything, it was an appropriate amount of food for us but the prices were about 30% higher than I would have expected for what you're getting. Service was weird... Two waitresses working, neither of which seemed super experienced. Ours was super attentive in the beginning (probably a little too much) and then after we got all of our food she never came back to our table until I flagged her down to get me a check. I wanted another beer and attempted to get their attention but gave up after the waitress was busy looking at jewelry at the bar with (who I assume is) the owner. (we were one of two tables on a Wednesday night). Their alcohol isn't on the menu and there's no sign or board with anything listed. No prices for the alcohol listed anywhere. I only realized after I got charged how much the drinks cost....29 dollars for a glass of rose and a beer, 14.50 each. (These weren't fancy drinks, terra pilsner from south korea...10 bucks for a 6 pack and a cabernet franc rose from Atlantique...15 bucks a bottle). The bill was hand written and not super clear Getting the bill took a few minutes and was hand written and not super clear. Inside of the restaurant was nice, clean and simple. They could use a new set of menu's, current ones have spots of grease on basically every page. It seems like a mom and pop place that could use some professional help with how they run the front of the house. Get an experienced waiter or two, and make your prices a little more reasonable for you area. read more

Delicious food and cute dining spot but there appears to be a language barrier between the employees and English-speaking customers. Went there on a Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM and the place was far from busy by that point, but I asked for water twice and never got it - instead I got a cup of hot green tea. Ice water should be offered/given anyway but to ask twice and not receive it is ridiculous. When it came time to pay the bill, we asked for our leftovers to be wrapped up. Instead of giving us containers to let us put the food in ourselves (which would have been quicker and easier for all involved) they took our plates away and then only returned my food in a container but not my friend's. It took FOREVER to get both the food and eventually the bill...which was hard to read as they handwrite them. Needless to say, I will not return. You're better off getting takeout from any number of Asian restaurants in the greater Boston area and avoiding all this hassle and wasted time. read more

We were thrilled with every dish we ordered. We started with the kimchi pancake and tteo bokki. The kimchi pancake was perfect-crisp-chewy and not too spicy. The tteo bokki was very spicy, but delicious. The 5 of us shared 4 dishes, chicken teriyaki, chicken bulgogi, vegetable bibimbap and udon soup with vegetables and tofu. The soup broth was mildly smoky but had no heat. It was a nice break from the strong spice of the tteo bokki. Both chicken dishes were cooked perfectly, with tender, small pieces of meat. The teriyaki was sweet and the bulgogi was delicately flavored. The bibimbap was possibly the group favorite, if only for the kimchi pancake. The rice was crispy and the vegetables were fresh, topped with a perfectly cooked egg. These dishes were accompanied by homemade kimchi that had just the right amount of heat and delicious kimchi funk. The atmosphere is casual, with an open kitchen. The service was warm and friendly. Oh, we also shared several mochi, cut up so we could easily share. We'll definitely be back! read more

After an amazing meal at Loretta last evening, we wanted to try a different cuisine. We were disappointed at the high prices and the paltry amount of food we got. Staying at a BnB within walking distance we didn't want to order too much food that we wouldn't be able to finish. No chance of that! We ordered a seaweed salad, fried rice with tofu, and a bibimbap with beef. The fried rice quantity barely covered the shallow plate that it came in. The hot bibimbap was cooked and served in a shallow stone bowl which contained maybe 1.5" of food. Usually bibimbaps are served in a deep stone bowl several inches depth. Charging an extra $5 just for the tiny amount of beef was ridiculous. Maybe there was a half ounce of tiny pieces of beef. The 3 stars are the the good "soccarat" and the complimentary small kimchi dishes, as well as the pleasant servers. read more

I was not offered any suggestions such as entering through a service door, etc. Yelp should remind restaurants that ADA federal and state laws require them to provide access to the public, including disabled people. Food was okay, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. Any establishment that charges $2 for a glass of tap water is crossing a line. The high price of entrees should negate the need to gouge customers. My wife is Korean and we agree that this one time gamble was a loss. The H-Mart food court, in Burlington, is superior in pricing, authentic, & worthy of repeat visits. That being said, if you have a craving for healthy Korean food, don't want to drive to Burlington, and don't mind high prices, than you can take a gamble at Cozy Kimchi. read more
