Surprisingly negative experience, unfortunately, today. They had originally said someone would come today between 12-2 because that's what I have in my calendar, but then today they shifted the arrival window to between 1-3p - which was fine - and the guy was still an hour late, arriving at nearly 4p. When he got here, he didn't have the supplies he was supposed to have despite my having had 2 or possibly 3 conversations with the dispatch / owner people to arrange last week for the appointment today, I don't know - it felt like a lot of prior communication to be ready for today. Because we have 2 sliding glass doors, we needed 2 charlie bars, which we had for sure discussed, but then the guy who showed up had only been provided 1 charlie bar (a long metal bar in a tube that blocks the opening of a sliding glass door) on his truck. He also didn't really understand what he was supposed to do with our garage door or why, despite again those multiple prior conversations with his HQ team. The poor person was agitated, hit the newly painted walls with a tube containing the one charlie bars he brought, almost hit the chandelier which would have possibly broken a light bulb, and then walked to the next room only to promptly hit the ceiling fan with the metal bar while the fan was in motion, scraping one of the ceiling fan blades. I felt bad for the guy - his hands were shaking the whole time. I don't think he was ok, perhaps he was out too much in the sun today? This is not a huge deal but even though I was wearing a mask, he never offered to wear one and I always think it's nicer if people at least offer when they're coming into your home and you're wearing one. Then when he said he'd have to come back again to do the 2nd charlie bar, the HQ people for Cox Locks said they couldn't make him available until a week from now. I had to call cox locks to ask that he please be asked to leave, and they did agree to do that, and they helpfully gave me two other numbers to try, but then one was to a person who said he's "so busy he probably can't do it" because he doesn't have an opening until Thursday (it is the end of the day Tuesday right now so Thursday would have been fine?? But (shrugs emoji)? ) and the other referral out number didn't even answer. I might have even given 2 stars but then the poor guy - when he was leaving, left the package of the charlie bar at our house and had to come back and get it. I mean, something was really off today. I feel bad for the guy, but I also was able to call a 5star Yelp review locksmith 10min ago and schedule them to come out for 10a tomorrow so... I just don't know what's going on with this company but I must have caught this locksmith on a bad day. The headquarters people not only didn't give him the info he needed to be successful, they also didn't try very hard to make it right or meet the need I had talked to them about multiple times starting last week. I'm sure they're a good company on most days, but today was not that day - and who wants to have to arrange for locksmiths twice when you can call a place that can get it right the first time? I hope this review helps them work out a better communication process in the future, and maybe schedule this guy to be out of the heat? Concerning. read more

I called a few days ago, just to get an estimate, price was $30 cheaper then the "lowest" price another company had. I got off work a little late and called them when I was on my way just to make sure and know I would be coming in. Okay so Julie answered the phone, very sweet, kind & friendly. I had a few questions for her and shortly after she had said oh yeah Matthew wrote down your info. AMAZING! Not only did she have all that but the fact that Matthew actually took note and left it for her was just beyond what I was expecting. Its about 4:20 when I had called. My ETA was going to be at 4:48, traffic wasn't bad but it could have gone smoother. I actually got to there shop at 4:53, taking in consideration that it was 7 minutes till they closed, I actually thought I would be walking out empty handed. NOOOO! Matthew went ahead and took my DL and Title amd called to get the code to my car. I didn't need any remotes or chips in the key. We were thinking it was gonna be 15 mins or so. If im not mistaken he was able to finish the keys almost an hour later! 46 mins after they closed! They didn't treat me as a customer we were talking and his father was joking and making us laugh like if we knew each other for a long time. A Very Very sweet family. The total was under $100 with taxes, 2 keys were made and OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I will definitely come if I ever need a key or locks. Go no further and don't pay an arm and a leg for anything. It was a drive but so worth it. Thank you guys very much. Ok I have used Cox's many times before but I have never written a review! I am a Realtor and today my electronic lock box died on me with the key inside and a client waiting to get into the home at 9am!! I called another locksmith closer to the property than Cox's Lock & Key and I was told that they MIGHT be able to get to me by 6 pm! I was having one of the worst days, then to make matters worst I locked my keys in the car!! I called a locksmith and they said it's 19$ to have them come out and it starts at $45 to pop the lock and only 20 mins wait. I waited an hour and was told by a rude guy not in a service van but his own junker that it would be $75 dollars to open my car. Needless to say I let the guy have it, and tried Cox keys. They were busy with calls but were very kind to me my sister and my very tired 3 year old niece. Jimmy made my really bad day better with talks of Ken Kesey and better days. Matt was very kind and got my door opened in no time. Laura back at the shop had my niece laughing and playing looking at magazines. They really made a bad day so better it was a blessing. Challenged with a difficult lock the brothers persevered and leveraged family knowledge and came up with a great solution that has made us feel very secure, and it looks great too! They could have easily given up, tried to up sell to a modern lock set, but instead they respected this old door, it's historical nature and spent the time getting it right! I needed to make copies of my motorcycle key. I decided to try and find a locksmith to copy my keys because I didn't feel like going to the dealership and paying $15 more than the actual cost for each key, hah! Apparently the blank that's needed for my key is an uncommon style, because I had walked in or called at least 20 locksmiths (no, that's not an exaggeration), including large chain stores that can cut keys (Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.), auto shops, mobile locksmiths, and other small/ local locksmiths (Pop-a-Lock, Bee's Keys, etc.), and NO ONE had the blanks in stock! However, Cox's was the ONLY business that told me the code number for my blank. They offered to place an order and told me it would take a few days to ship (a few other places also offered to place an order). But since now I knew the style of key I needed, I opted to just buy the blanks online. I bought 3 blanks (one spare to keep in each riding jacket and one spare that stays at home) for a lower cost than one blank from the dealership. I brought the blanks to Cox's and they cut them all for a very good rate. They also have some neat vintage stuff on display in their storefront. The man and woman who were at the store (I don't remember names) were friendly and helpful. The guy who cut my keys came out with me and watched me test each key to make sure it was cut properly and that I was satisfied with his work. I left that day a very happy customer and if I ever need keys cut I will definitely go back to them. Support your local businesses! read more

These guys are fantastic. My 2007 Toyota Rav 4 key fob fell apart as I inserted it in the ignition the other day. I managed to get it out then called the closest Toyota service center. After being on hold for 20 minutes ( don't worry I multi-task!) I called back, asked for the most senior person on site and he was gracious enough to tell me, yeah we MIGHT be able to fix it, but most likely you will need a new key ($200 !). I had one back up non-fob key so could drive at least. I called Cox's and they said, come on over, we can help. It took about 30 seconds and they refused to charge me. They even straightened out another key I had. I did manage to figure out something I needed to purchase ! I really could not walk away without buying something!! They are kind, patient and know their craft. Remember local stores like this are few and far between so please patronize them for all of your lock and key needs! read more

I called Wednesday (4/20) and scheduled an advanced appointment for an onsite service to re-key 4 locks on my new travel trailer. I was given the date of today (Friday 4/22) with technician arrival between 10a-11a. I received a call this morning (fri) at 9:31a asking me for the numbers on my existing keys to ensure that they can change them. At that time, I was reassured that a technician would still arrive between 10a - 11a. I called the office at 11:10a and asked where the technician was. I explained that I made advanced reservations and am waiting. I was told at THAT time that the technician is in the area finishing a job and if I had errands to run, to do so and the technician would meet me at my house when he's ready. During that phone call she said (basically) the following: 1. When she saw my order this week and saw that it was a trailer, this is unusual for them and didn't know if they could accommodate. *No phone call was made to me this week to explain this. She also didn't explain this at 9:31a today. 2. She said this type of job requires the removal of the lock, taking the locks to the shop, and then returning after 2-3 hours to reinstall. At this time, I said that was fine, as long as it is finished today, when we had agreed to the appointment time. *No phone call was made to me this week to explain this. She also didn't explain this at 9:31a today. As a customer, I was explaining to her why I called them. She then explained to me that they are a small family business (which I acknowledge and told her that is one of the reasons that I contracted with them) and told me that there is a family member in the hospital. Bottom Line: I am sympathetic to family emergencies - truly. This company had every opportunity to let me know of possible delays when they called at 9:31a this morning. Nothing was said to that effect. She ONLY told me about a family emergency when I pressed her for arrival time and follow through. *** Her ending statement to me was: "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, YOU CAN COME HERE AND SHOOT ME"! AND THEN SHE HUNG UP ON ME. Literally. I understand that this is stress talking. I expect a call back and apology and I will continue as if nothing happened. I just recently went and had some keys made and not only were they fast -- their pricing was great and I really never really knew it...I had to get some keys made in Rowlett recently and I was charged $3.50 a key!! Most of all I'm amazed and thankful at the effort he put into tracking down a very hard to find part to repair my door entrance latch. After spending hours on the Internet and days talking to and visiting locksmiths and retail sales places like Elliot's Hardware in the Allen/Plano area, I was convinced I'd have to spend a lot of money to buy a new set and have my door refinished. Nobody does repairs and most don't want to put much effort into helping you. Nothing I could find was the same size as my existing set and no one would even consider trying to repair it.
