Last night of my vaca, so I was very chill, and wouldn't have been bothered by much. But this was a disappointment. My observations: Nice place to hang. Food was mediocre at best. Service was tolerable. Great location with great views of harbor. Very nice job refurbishing the place and adding the outside bar. Landscaping is awesome. Inside bar areas are way too loud...need some sound dampening. Outside bar areas on north side are on top of the kitchen exhaust vents, so you're sitting in a cloud of grease smoke. For food: the buffalo shrimp were make believe processed something molded into the shape of shrimp...really? Couldnt find the clams in the clam chowder that supposedly "won best in Hampton two years in a row." Was more like chunky cream of potato, served with just two celophane-wrapped saltines. Really? Blue cheese salad wedge was lacking - too much cheese, brown sugar bacon bits were gross, and Boston lettuce couldn't hold up to the cheese and bacon. Would be better with the traditional iceberg lettuce. Pan fried flounder was bland. Perhaps if it had been served with a lemon I could have extracted some flavor. Specialty drinks were short on alcohol and long on price. No bread with salads. Waitress cleared salad plate and fork, and returned a few seconds later with the dirty plate, held it in front of my face, and asked me to take my fork off the plate and keep it. Really? Too bad, could be an awesome place. Go and have a bottle of beer...you'll at lest know what you're getting and can enjoy the view. read more

Enoy East Hampton quality dining on a Hampton Bays pocketbook. We arrrived at 6:30 pm and were told there was a wait so our party of five went to the new outdoor Tiki Bar. The bartenders were all super friendly and helpful, suggesting new drinks to try such as the Bearded Lady, really delicious. The rest of us had the Rumba rum punch drink, also delicious, The outdoor space is spectacular, surrounged by the bay and fantastic boats moored nearby. Enjoy the view the from comfortable seating areas set on manicured lawns with beautiful plantings and water features. When our beeper went off to alert us that our tabe was ready I had a hard time letting go of the outdoor space. The crowd was 30-50's+ very hip and chic yet we spotted may families with kids enjoying the specialty drinks offered on their "Kids Menu". We were fortunate to be shown to a table upstairs on the outside deck with incredible bay views, While having cocktails we listened to great live jazz that could be heard from outside of the open windows. The interior performance space and bar upstairs is spectacular and I can't wait to go back again for cocktails and listen to some terrific music. We had a wonderful server, Holly B. who was super friendly and very attentive. Now here comes the best part of the evening, THE FOOD.We ordered a shrimp appetizer and shared it, The sauce was outstanding and we didn't leave a drop on the plate. I had the filet mignon with stuffed baked potato, meat was tender and perfectly cooked. Eileen and I had three friends visiting from Florida and let me tell you they know their fish. Two ordered cumin encrusted mahi with spanish rice and they raved about it. Eileen had the salmon, that was moist, flavorable and delicious. Arlene a picky eater, ordered the hamburger to be safe and it won her over as well. We were too full for dessert, but will make it my businss to make my way back to try their "Death By Chocolate" In closing, Cowfish is a five star wonder. Go there early as it was packed and people still arriving at 9:00 pm. We never felt rushed. The hostess greated us again to find out if we were pleased and we told her what I just written, only shorter. A go to place, a keeper! Tom D. read more

My husband and I enjoyed the Sunday brunch recently, and we were pleasantly surprised. The setting was very nice and the staff were very pleasant. The food was wonderful! We started with the turtle soup, which was very tasty. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the shrimp/crab with remoulade. Both dishes were good to look at and good to eat! And, we definitely enjoyed the gentleman strolling around playing the banjo and guitar. read more

Had a birthday brunch for nine people. They let us prepare the table beforehand... Food was all around excellent ... nice inexpensive wine list. Service was most friendy ...all things considered we were best pleased. ..and not crazy expensive. Certainly will return. read more

Just moved to the area and after reading reviews decided Cowfish was definitely worth a try- SO GLAD we did!!! First visit we went on a Wed night...little did we know they offer an amazing special for wine lovers--- Every Wed is 1/2 off a bottle of wine when you get two entrees!! They have a great wine list (especially reds- we had the frank family red zin...great zin, nice fruit & very enjoyable!) Even though it is the "offseason" for a waterfront Hamptons restaurant- the view was still amazing from inside the dining area that is completely enclosed with huge windows (even saw a few seals- the kids loved that!)...the service was spot on, everyone was smiling and truly happy to be assisting us. The food was amazing (the buffalo shrimp appetizer and north fork salad were incredible- my husband had the filet with an enormous baked potato and raved about his delicious and cooked to perfection steak (coming from a man whose very hard to please when it comes to eating out!) To our family Cowfish was a success and has become our favorite local restaurant since moving to the east end! We're excited to see the atmosphere come Summer (and the kids are eager to play on their outdoor pirate ship) BUT we are definitely enjoying the relaxed peaceful environment during their slower season. Typically, I applaud and thank those who take the time to write reviews but never take the time to do so myself. I felt I needed to give back after discovering and learning about our new favorite restaurant through this site!! Hope you get a chance to be wow'ed as my family was. Enjoy! read more

This was a great addition to the local restaurant scene. They've done a superb with the renovation of the location and the addition of the outside bar. The menu has alot of variety from sushi to barbecue; my standby is the mahi which is alays outstanding. I would eat here alot more often, except the owner has not acted in an environmentally reponsible manner in how he has operated his other location in town (Rumbas). Persistent issues with the sewage situation. read more

Worst Service Ever. They were completely overwhelmed by a holiday weekend. Spent an hour and a half at the bar unable to get a drink because 3 bartenders were all on one corner for most of the night. When we did get a table, almost 2 hours before any food got there. Get a f'ing clue. How is this place in business? Bunch of retards. read more

We've eaten at cowfish many times and the food, staff and view are the best! always! consistent and awesome. We love it so much we decided to have our wedding there this September and it was awesome! Huge thanks to the cowfish staff for making our day the best day ever :) read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Cowfish last night! Excellent staff; incredible location overlooking the marina and such a wonderful ambiance (casual and oh so friendly). Cowfish mule was delicious (as were the margaritas)....lobster stuffed mushrooms excellent...scallops were delicious and we were so happy that our waitress recommended the banana cream pie! Unbelievably delicious crust and melt in your mouth pie. Keep up the great work...these VILs will be back :) read more

The food was very good and the location is very pretty BUT service is slow and hidden costs add up. Three of us went during restaurant week where three course meals are supposed to be under $28.00. Surprise, surprise. Everything had add on prices. Appetizers add $2, steak add $13, scallops add $5. Then, there two dessert choices. We were told that one of the desserts was out. So, I asked what they were substituting? I was told the cookie with ice cream on top. I asked if there was an extra cost because on the menu it said to add $4. She said there was no extra cost. Guess what?! They added the $4. We questioned the bill. We were told that we misunderstood....All three of us! Also, a half glass of wine was $10! Waitresses don't have assigned tables so service is extremely slow! We waited over 30 minutes for dessert and finally said that we wanted it to go. So in the end, our "Price Fix Dinner" cost us $146.00 not $84!! Rip Off!! read more

If you're in the Hamptons this summer, CowFish is a must. The views are magnificent, makes you feel like you in another state. Beautiful waterfront restaurant, great service, and the food was fabulous. Spare Ribs were the best. We had a corner table outside overlooking the boats. Long wait to get seated, but worth the wait. Very pleased and will definitely return again. read more

The bar was pretty good but the service was terrible on a Monday night gluten free options were terrible no gluten free appetizers overall I would not recommend it to anyone that is gluten free and the sushi had terrible presentation and they put cheese on fish they are right on the water so you would think they knew how to cook fish and they pre- breaded and fried the flounder so it could not be made gluten free and that was the special so this place will go out of business within 3 years. read more

Food was good, better than expected. View and setting amazing especially the upstairs bar. The wait even at 9:30pm was unexpected. We must go back at a less hectic time. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful meal at Cowfish. I was ten minutes late for my reservation and they didn't have a problem with that. Had a drink while waiting for the table. Dinner was cooked perfect and waitstaff was very helpful and upbeat. Can't wait to go back. read more

Food was great, service was great. Management checked on tables throughout the night and even brought us complementary appetizers to try because it was our first visit and we couldn't order everything! They have a great outdoor area for warm weather, and even a boat shuttle that takes you to their sister location Rumba. They do not take reservations for less than 10 people. read more

We went to Cowfish yesterday for lunch and it was amazing. There is a great view of the water. The staff is very friendly and the service was spot on. There was a banjo player who came to the table, it was a nice touch. I had the salad with brussel sprout leaves and shrimp. The food was really fabulous. That is my new go to spot. read more

Returned to Cowfish for the "dual" experience now that the weather is so nice. Following some delicious appetizers (stuffed mushrooms and buffalo shrimp and some outstanding entrees (special Cajun Salmon and Cowfish Burger) we took the "Rhumbarge" over to Rhuma for some excellent drinks and a sinfully delicious dessert (Tres Leches) on the outdoor deck. Just a scenic few minutes away via the barge. All service staff (and Rhumbarge Captain) were all most professional, welcoming and attentive. Would highly recommend this experience, especially on a nice day. We are already thinking about a return trip soon. read more

The food and drinks at Cowfish are both excellent! We went there last night for the first time. Service started off a little shaky but was quickly rectified by the quality of manager Jen's outstanding customer service. Plus, it's always nice to find a fellow North Jersey-ian whenever you travel! We will definitely be back again. read more

Traveled by boat for Sunday lunch. Both kids and adults were super impressed with the Mako sandwich. Great service and unbelievable atmosphere. Drinks are very good. One bit of advice - lunch time you will not wait. Dinner you will wait two hours. Believe them when they unapologetically quote you the wait time. But you can sit and drink in the Adirondack chairs and watch the boats go by. Pirate ship playground for kids. Cheaper option and food better at sister restaurant Rumba. read more

My husband had a reservation for our family to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived we were told they were waiting for a party to leave as they were sitting where we would be seated. After waiting for 15 minutes, my husband inquired about how much longer it would take. They explained they were unable to ask the group to move despite having another reservation scheduled for that space. The group at the table had already settled the bill and had been there since 5:45 PM. Our reservation was for 8 PM and by 8:45 PM I told my husband it was time for us to leave. What is the point in having a reservation when you can not honor it? They were not helpful in finding a way for us to be seated in a timely manner and a 45 minute wait for a reservation was absurd. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone because of this experience. I refused to let them damper my birthday celebration and continued the party at another establishment. read more

CowFish represents itself as family friendly (they have a great pirate ship play area for kids) but they don't take reservations for under 10 people and there aren't any changing tables in the bathrooms. We weren't seated for 1 1/2 hours after arriving (and being told it would be 45 minutes) and, by then, one kid was asleep without eating and the others were famished. The food is very good - the appetizers are amazing and the entrees are good. The service is not good. The waiters seemed overwhelmed (despite it being a mid-week dinner service). Our waiter couldn't answer questions about the menu and forgot one of our appetizers. The location is stunning. I would go back but probably only for drinks and appetizers on an evening I wasn't concerned about timing... read more

I went to Cowfish twice in 8 days as I couldn't get the food out of my head. Though it was packed this past Sunday for restaurant week the food was as exceptional as my previous visit. Nice place, nice views and atmosphere. The food is good and so is the service. We waited an hour and a half for a table, which was surprising on a Tuesday night but it's the summer and a popular spot. We had drinks at the bar so we really didn't care about waiting. We'd go back read more

I loved it. Very accommodating with special food requests. Busy place so do not go if you are starving - food was excellent.

delicious food. i ordered the salmon special that came with truffle risotto and asparagus. the salmon was a cinch over cooked but still tasted good. the rum punch is delicious. i also got to try the buffalo shrimp and spinach artichoke dip. the apps were rather small for the price but well worth ordering. read more

I'll give it Three stars for location, because we never actually got to eat or have a drink here. As residents of HB, we couldn't wait to come here. Having a small infant you could imagine how important a night out is for us. We came on a Monday at 6 thinking it was our best bet. Valet was so backed up, cars were lined up, and people were just leaving their cars in line and getting out to get their name on the list. Got to the front door to put our name with hostess and it was mass chaos and confusion with who was waiting who had a reservation (6+ parties or more), wheelchairs coming out the door, crowd piling up. Numerous "entitled" folks pushing their way through to get their name on the list first with no regard to the others waiting on line.....and a two hour wait.... all the whole people yelling at each other. Hostesses not friendly nor trying to clarify. So.... we left, and waited ANOTHER 20 minutes for the valet to bring our car back (and were cut on line yet again). Beautiful location but not worth the headache. I really don't understand why kindness and common decency seems to go out the window when it's "summer in the hamptons." Perhaps we'll try again when summer is over and all these rude morons go back to where they came from. read more

Loved it. Pulled up by boat around 1pm on a mid August Saturday. Dock was completely open. This place is accessible by boat by both the north fork (have to go through the locks) and the south fork. They sat us immediately - although beware they won't seat you unless your entire party is present. The place was getting crowded just as we sat down so we got lucky with no wait. They have a beautiful upstairs with a patio. We were sat downstairs, which for such a hot day was fine with us to be instead with the AC. The service was really good considering it's the east end (known for awful service). I had the chowder and the seared tuna, my fellow diners had sandwiches. The sandwiches were huge, we took some home. All of it was delicious. We even got a complimentary hummus plate before the apps came out. By the time we left he dock had filled up. It only holds 3-4 small-medium sized boats so keep that in mind if coming by boat. They also had a beautiful outdoor bar with seating and a seating area that overlooks Hampton bays. The ambiance was really great. And I got 5% off for "checking in" on yelp! read more

I went here the other day with my mom hoping to have a nice meal. however, the service here was TERRIBLE ! It was not crowded at all just a few tables. We sat at the bar and it took about 15 minutes for someone to even come ask us what we wanted to drink, by the time our drinks came we moved to the table. The table was a nice corner table outside. We ordered our food and got it relatively quick and then our waitress disappeared. I would have loved to have my salmon cooked a little bit more through however I didn't get a chance to ask because she was no where to be found. Then as we are mid entree she DROPS THE CHECK ON US! And just walks away!! Never saw her again after that! We wanted another glass of wine and dessert! We were not asked or even acknowledged at all. And for these prices I expect some decent service. I work in the industry and even if your shift is ending which I assume may have been the case you just never do that. SOOO disappointing I will not be returning or recommending this place again. read more

Left cow fish without eating.. Asked for table outside they said was reserved for party of six.. When I called they only take reservations for party of 11.. This is like the third time this has happened.. Let's get story together.. Numerous tables of four with only two people sitting at it.. Very sad live in Hampton bays very hard to even want to come back...we were there Tuesday evening.. What's baffling is we asked to be put on a list for a table outside and all we were told is comeback when your whole party is here.. We did that and then were told it would be a little bit which was what we wanted to be able to have a drink at the tiki bar.. Then go back up and be told that their was only one table left which happen to be in direct sun.. Then to be told if we didn't take that table we would be put back on list.. Staff very short and not helpful at all.. In my opinion just give people a pager when they get their and call them when table is ready because let's be honest you would want people to have a drink at the bar .. And either take reservations or don't.. No special accommodations .. read more

excellent dining everytime .. weather by boat or car i love this place great food and drinks is expensive but worth the treat

This is my second visit here, taking my last couple bites of the cast iron cookie. We had the spinach artichoke dip to start. It was just cheesy enough without being overpowering. The chips were tasty but slightly stale. For our entree I had the cumin crusted mahi, ham hollandaise(now I must try that at home) was delicious as was the perfect Spanish rice. The mahi mahi itself was severely overcooked, very dry, the cumin crust also lost all its texture from the sauce that was put on top of the crust, soggy blahh. Great flavors in the dish overall, my date(mom) had the Gibbs burger, which was cooked a perfect mid rare, and was delicious, the fries were hit and crispy as well. Our server was very nice, but seemed slightly rushed. Lastly the cast iron cookie, delicious ice cream but I think the cookie needs some work, a little doughy in the middle. Overall very good but not as amazing as my first visit. read more

my family of 8 was there this monday evening (memorial day) and everything was outstanding, from the food to the service, despite how busy it got. our server, Marika, was phenomenal. she got all our order right, even the special requests, and made sure throughout our dinner that we had all that we needed. i would definitely bring my family there again and again. Marika made this experience enjoyable, especially w/ so many of us to please. : ) read more

As a party of 10 who made a reservation weeks in advance, I expected far better service and attentiveness. As soon as we arrived in time for our 7:00 reservations, we were told the table we would be seated at is "just ordering dessert" so we would have to wait 30 minutes. One of the many hostesses said we could sit at the bar on the meantime and order some apps on the house. Of course, we're a party of 10 arriving at the bar at 7 on a Friday, so they are completely full be slammed. We were able to grab a table and chairs for all of us, but no one waited on us. After 15 minutes, we had to grab a waitress from another section to alert them that we wanted drinks. We also later had to place our order for free appetizers with her because no one else was available. By the time our drinks were arriving (25 minutes after being sat in the bar, 40 minutes after our reservations ) we were finally told we could go to our table, though we had to wait for everyone to get their drinks, as that took some time. When we got to the table we ordered our (free) appetizers and it came out 30 minutes later (over an hour after our reserved table time). The waiter was extremely nice and delivered an otherwise great meal. However, the "free" appetizers were not included in our meal, so we had to wait another 15 minutes to get it arranged. After all our lovely meal (albeit long) we went to get our cars from valet, only to find we were double parked in by two vehicles. One car was left abandoned as the owner locked his keys in his car. The other one parked behind it was an illegal vendor (as told by the restaurant staff) trying to sell beverages in the restaurant. The valet staff tried to find the illegal vendor to no avail, and because it is a private lot without proper signage, they were unable to get a tow truck to tow the vehicles blocking us. An hot after arriving back to the valet station after dinner, the person who locked his keys in the car finally came back and cussed out the valet for no reason. The valets did nothing wrong, but amidst the problem, the general manager offered no sympathy ("what do you expect me to do??!!") and offered zero compensation for the time spent waiting. Let me tell you, I've never been happier to leave a restaurant. Please go anywhere else in Hampton Bay, at least they will treat you with respect if they make one mistake, never mind two. read more
