I love a good neighborhood bar, especially one that serves delicious craft cocktails! My friend suggested grabbing some drinks at Cowboy Surfer after having dinner at The Pit Room nearby. The bar is in a small shopping strip tucked away in a neighborhood. Because of it's proximity to a school, they have to legally be classified as a private club. Luckily, a membership literally involves scanning your ID and it's free! Once you do that, you're good to go and you only have to scan it once. Easy peasy. The bar has a front room and a back room. There's a stage in the front room, however they did not have live music on the night we visited (a Friday). They have a few tables in the main seating area. In the back area there are couches as well as darts. We started in the main seating area, then migrated to the back room when the table next to us got loud. I had the Zoggs, the Aviation Martini, and the Gin Gimlet. I enjoyed all of my drinks. They have a great selection of craft cocktails including classics like the Pimm's Cup and the French 75. The bartenders are very friendly. Jimmy was super nice and did a good job of going around to tables to check on patrons throughout the evening. It was nice not having to get up to order drinks at the bar. At the end of the evening, the register glitched when he was closing out my tab so he only charged me for two drinks instead of three. I tipped extra to make up the difference. Cowboy Surfer has a chill vibe, great drinks, and great service!

This is my type of bar. It's very chill and laid back, the customers you see are local and from the neighborhood. If this is your first time there they will scanned your ID so you become a member of their club. The reason why is because they're close to a school so TABC requires them to operate as a private club. All you have to do is provide your ID, they scan it and you're a member for life. Don't worry it's free. It's nothing shady about what they're doing and they are following the TABC protocol. The inside is very comforting with a nice/friendly crowd along with good service from the bartenders. They have a little area in the back if you want to be away from everyone and they have darts for you to play just in case you're bored. I was told that they have live music on certain days and open mic night on their stage. If you're hungry they also have food but it's limited so don't expect a filet mignon or lamb chops with roasted potatoes. If you want a list of the menu I'll name a few. They have Hamburgers/Turkey Burger, Doritos chili pie, bowl of chili, pretzels, chicken/beef quesadillas, chicken/beef tacos, chips and queso, hummus and chips etc. Pretty much simple bar food that will hold you over until you get home. I decided to order their Manhattan and my oh my was it amazing. It was strong & tasty. Overall, great service and nice environment. This is a hidden gem & I cannot to come back. Plenty of parking spots so there's never a hassle to find one.

Cool little treasure in 77024. Located directly across the street from the professional buildings near the hospital. This bar is friendly and fun! The happy hour prices are reasonable, The bartenders are very attentive and the space is cozy. The walls are filled with nostalgic photos, there are TVs throughout to watch the Astros (or whatever), there is a small stage for the live music & open mic nights and 2 dart boards in the back portion of the bar with extra seating. This review can't be complete without mentioning the great mix of music. It's a good spot to sit and Shazam tunes to add to your music library. In the couple hours I was there, I heard CCR, Waylon Jennings, Cody Jinks, George Jones and Chris Stapleton. 70's, true country and Texas country all mixed together. I did not try any of the food, so I will have to return to check that out along with open mic night on Wednesdays. One more thing I typically don't mention in my reviews: toilet paper. They have great toilet paper! Well done, guys! I will return.

I got the fried chicken with a biscuit. I thought the biscuit would be large enough to encompass the chicken but it was one small cube. It was a tasty biscuit though. It wasn't filling because I didn't eat the collard greens but did dip the chicken in the hot honey sauce. In fairness I'd never had any collard greens before and it was fine but not moreish for me, a personal thing. The deviled eggs were good with a small piece of fried chicken on top and drizzled honey. Hard to mess that up though right? I asked if they had any stouts and if so, if they could provide a sample. I'm so happy I asked for a sample and didn't just order the "one" stout they had. When we arrived and gave our name for our reservation, we were seated in an area that was visibly dirty -- the seats had not been cleaned. We requested to move to another table, which they accommodated without issue. Our waitress was pleasant and gave good drink recommendations. However the drinks were not strong at all -- and if a drink isn't strong, what's the point? The drink was good just not enough alcohol. The food was a different story. I originally wanted the brisket tacos but was told they were out of brisket, so I had to settle for something else that somewhat fit my taste. My potatoes were essentially scraps -- hard and inedible. My pancake was dry, cold, and arrived with no butter. It was just not a good pancake. The eggs were fine -- eggs are eggs. My friends didn't fare much better. One ordered the steak bites and rice pilaf and said her food was too sweet but the steak was tender. The other got the grilled chicken sandwhich and felt the pesto was overwhelming -- way too much of it. We also ordered deviled eggs, which were completely overpowered by a heavy-handed spicy mustard. If you know mustard, you know it takes over everything -- and it did. The bacon and Tabasco flavors were completely lost. When I flagged my potatoes to the food runner, they offered to bring more -- but why would I want more of something that should never have been served in the first place? I declined. This was our first and last visit to Daily Gather. Nothing about the experience was spectacular or special enough to bring us back.
