That moment alone set the tone--the place spoke frankly, and I felt welcome. Now, let's talk about the food. The waffles with toasted pancakes were a treat, and when I asked to add bananas, there wasn't the slightest complaint. I also ordered the Meat Lovers Skillet--oh my goodness! The red potatoes were soft, seasoned perfectly, and plentiful. The chef was generous with the ham, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, jalapeños, and green peppers. The best part? Those extra veggies weren't even part of the original skillet--they were suggested by the waitress, and she absolutely knew what she was talking about. It ended up being the veggie boost I didn't know I needed. What really moved me, though, was watching family and community woven together so seamlessly inside this little spot. It almost brought tears to my eyes. I needed this respite. I needed the children. I needed the Meat Lovers Skillet. I needed those Saturday morning cartoons. Right off the bat they tell you you saved 26% by ordering directly through them on their website. I confirm that by looking at the Uber eats pricing and the website pricing which indeed show that the prices on Uber eats were considerably higher. What it doesn't tell you though is that the website for delivery uses doordash which means even though you're saving money, you're still getting charged a service fee as well as a $7 delivery fee plus whatever you decided to tip. Not a great start, but here we go.  The ice creams look delicious on the website, but keep in mind just like the doordash fees catch you off guard, so will everything else. I decided to try their buy one get one half off on the pints with a peanut butter cookie dough pint and a peach cobbler pint as my ice creams of choice. I needed some protein too so I decided to go with a grand Burger, which if you go off the description alone it really doesn't tell you what differentiates it from the double cheeseburger aside from the 50 cent extra. I had to double check and then I noticed that the Grand Burger mentioned a "middle bun." So you're literally paying extra for a bun...nice. I added a berry lemonade and fries to the Grand Burger. Once I got everything squared away and received my order, things were noticeably awry. For one the berry lemonade somehow turned into a Sprite when it converted into doordash's systems so I received a sprite. This is an occasional problem with online delivery systems when items aren't mapped correctly. So to anyone ordering a berry lemonade make sure you clarify that it's supposed to be a berry lemonade in the order notes.  The ice creams themselves are nowhere near what they look like in the store photos. I don't even see the mentioned ingredients from the description aside from the obvious cookie chunks and possibly cobbler crust chunks. This is either due to more of a chemical flavor rather than actual true to life ingredients or they over mix the ice cream which is a huge No-No when making ice cream. When you over mix, you lose all of the drizzles and everything else that's supposed to be in it because it combines with the ice cream base. Do the ice creams taste like how they are supposed to? Yes they are quite strong in terms of flavor. Is it disappointing that they don't look more appetizing and are very basic? Absolutely. What was also disappointing was the fact that the ice cream came in basic white boxes, and not the custom packaging that they proudly showcase as if the ice cream is ready to be sold in stores.  The Grand Burger is quite comical. It's an absolute mess where none of the ingredients are able to stay on top of each other even though the middle bun is usually there to stabilize tall sandwiches. The patty ratio is also hilarious as the top meat Patty was at best 2/3 the size of the bottom meat patty. The picture of it sitting on the large bun with so much space around it says it all. The taste of the burger itself is okay, the meat could use a pinch more seasoning and they just narrowly avoided the overcooked mark. You can definitely tell ice cream is the focus here and the soul food portion of the menu was just added because of the clientele in the area.  Overall Richard's is a treat to the area. If the way they showcased things were true to life then there wouldn't be such disappointment. I don't expect an ice cream shop to have great food overall outside of the ice cream so I'm not ragging it on that, but what I do expect is people to get what is being advertised which is where I feel Richard's has dropped the ball. The ice cream is packed with flavor and you can taste the main bits of what it is supposed to be there...the presentation just needs work. As far as pricing, it is priced fair considering the area. You're looking at about $11 for a burger and fries with drink and $12 for a pint of allegedly homemade ice cream which doesn't get much cheaper for a small, boutique shop.
