They have a parking lot with an ample number of spots, and there is a lot of free street parking in the area. The building is very creative with nice art work. This small restaurant is perfect to grab a bite to eat, a smoothie, or a drink. They have many events here such as Jazz sets, comedy shows, and spoken words. Such a great relaxed vibe. Fresh food and great smoothies. The cafe is owned by a mother and daughter duo who totally make you feel like family. I watched them have conversations with almost every customer that came in. I had a shredded chicken taco which was absolutely amazing. It was tender and seasoned so well. It was topped with a homemade taco sauce, purple cabbage, cilantro and onion. I really like how everything is literally made in front of you and created with health consciously. I have a special place in my heart for local businesses and black/minority owned businesses. Some like it black is definitely a gem in the Bronzeville area. It's a juice bar and cafe. The smoothies are delicious, Indian summer is my go to. The food options are super clutch. The soul panini will tingle every taste bud you have. The tacos are definitely filling. All the foods are on the healthier side and pair well with the smoothies so treat yourself to a combo of both. Everything is made to order, no prepackaged or microwaved quick meals here and it's all definitely worth the wait. My only issue is that I don't come here often enough! Stopped by here on a whim on a Tuesday night. The place was pretty empty except for us and one other table. You order your food and drinks at the bar and seat yourself. They then bring your food and drinks to your table. One drawback was that service was very slow for it to be as empty as it was. However, the tacos were decent! Drinks were just alright, but not strong enough for my tastebuds. The space is super cute tho. Nice decor and a stage for live perfomances. I would be up to visiting again to check out the space for an event/performance but wouldn't make a special trip just for the food/drinks. read more

I have noticed social media posts about this place but had not had an opportunity to stop by. I noticed a post on Instagram regarding a house music set and the neighborhood vendor night. Me and my daughter stopped by and was advised of a five dollar cover charge, no drink ticket offered. The space for the band/DJ stage and combo dance area is small. The pros: The venue offers a patio area with open window seating and indoor high bar tables and chairs as well as regular tables and chairs. It offers a very relaxed vibe with a food menu of healthy options to order from and a small bar sitting area. The wall displays imagery of black love and kind of takes you back to the black activist era of 70's and 80's. The cons: cover charge (why?) and there was no server for the tables. If you wanted a drink or food you had to stand in a line at the bar. The instagram page suggests weekly drink specials and events, so check the page if you want to know what's happening. Suggestions: No cover charge and hire a waiter to service the tables. Will I visit again? If no cover charge, absolutely. read more

I've passed by this spot plenty of times and finally had a chance to check it out. The place has a nice and they lunch and brunch specials, The menu is not huge however it serves its purpose. I ordered "Cookies Croquettes" which came with cheese grits, two patties, and a corn muffin. The Salmon Croquettes were perfect, they were seasoned to the gods. Anyway I was ordering next to one of the owners and she made good suggestions for my smoothie choice. I got the mango smoothie with ginger in it and it was a satisfying hold over till my panini was ready. The panini was crisp, flavorful and chewy (do to the PEPPER-JACK cheese that many places don't have or charge extra for). Oh yeah the chips that come with the panini are extra crunchy (not burnt but perfect) and are a perfect combo with the perfectly toasted panini. This is such a cool place. I visited on a Tuesday evening and enjoyed the great music by the seasoned musicians. It was open mic that night and a few folks from the audience performed and the musicians did not miss a beat. The menu is very casual with panini's, tacos etc....The smoothies were great also. The event was put on by Thyck Girl Productions a launch they were having there but once the event was over the owner started to literary kick EVERYONE OUT at 7p. She stated she had to get ready for her own launch taking place shortly after. We were leaving anyway because the event was over but I've never experienced being kicked out of an establishment from an owner being so rude. I've yet to eat any food here, but these are definitely some of the best smoothies I've found in the city. Staff are courteous and efficient. It never seems to be too crowded in the afternoons and I'm thrilled to be able to pop over and grab something quick on my afternoon break. While this is definitely not a huge space or full service restaurant, that's not the point. It's a very well decorated locally owned business that does a good job at the areas it chooses to work in. Now keep in mind their were only 8 patrons in this establishment and some of them had been served already. So today I went to Some Like it Black with a group of my co-workers. When we arrived we all came with the intention to order their jerk chicken tacos. Before arriving we called to inform them that we was coming with a large party for the jerk chicken tacos and was told they could accommodate. As we were in line to order tacos we was told that they was unable to make anymore jerk chicken tacos so some of the worker was forced to order other options. Right after our group ordered our tacos a group of caucasian women walked in and wanted to order some jerk chicken taco as well and they was able to accommodate them right after they told us they didn't have anymore jerk chicken, mined you we are all black. Then once we order they did not give us all out tacos and when we informed them that we was missing 1 taco they acted as if we was lying about the taco. We even show them our reciept. The tacos had little to no meat on them. They was not welcoming to our group at all but our Caucasian counterparts received a different treatment and they are extremely over priced for the size of the tacos. This was not my first time at Some Like it Black but this by far was the worst experience. I hope that they can do better read more
