The Promontory is a great venue to catch a show! I recently went to The Moth at The Promontory and had a good time. I don't know if this is always the layout but the front half had small round tables with 4 seats each and the back half was rows of seats without tables. The Promontory has some cool shows & slightly lesser known hip hop and R&B artists that come through. On the upcoming schedule I saw Joe Budden, Syleena Johnson, and Jim Jones - that's awesome! No food, drinks only in The Venue section of The Promontory. They had a few good beers on draft and they were priced $6-8. The only kind of strange thing was that it isn't a very big menu but our server didn't seem to know anything on the drink menu. Every item we ordered had to be looked at on the menu because she looked at us blankly when we ordered. It was kind of strange. However she was very nice and prompt after she started serving us. Initial ordering took about 30 minutes though! Bathrooms were clean but quickly ran out of toilet paper and there was a long line out the door, so they clearly don't have enough. All in all, a good small venue to watch a show and no major qualms about it!

I can't wait to comeback and try their food because it smelled amazing as my daughter and I walked through the restaurant. We were here for a comedy show for women who had never been on stage before and I swear many of them already seemed like pros to me. We had so much fun but we wished we had gotten there even earlier because we were way in the back. That didn't stop us from hearing them but depending on who was sitting in front of you, welp let's just say you couldn't see the comics. I wish I would have wrote this the day after we came from the show because I remembered my favorites names but now yeah my memories is like woman please. This was a free event but the Promontory treated us like we paid for each seat. They were so friendly it made we want to comeback to an event that you have to pay for(clearing throat) but I like the free too don't get me wrong...lol You should keep on the look out for the concerts they have, my daughter was telling me about a silent party they had here(for people that don't know its when you have headphones listening to your own music...sounds strange but it is a lot of fun) They have something for everyone you just have to check their calendar. I will update my review when we comeback for the food and I will hopefully have some better pics...smile As always folks... Enjoy!!!

The Promontory has become my go-to for black inclusive events. I've gone for Party Noire dance get downs and most recently to support local black creatives and businesses. Drinks are always on point and the community is amazing. Parking can be tough but there are spots farther down the block or metered parking if you're only staying a couple hours. But if you're honest you'll probably be there the whole afternoon. Set in Hyde Park you can easily go downstairs for a bite to eat or walk around the neighborhood and stop in at any of the local stores. Either way, this area is a gem and I always have a good time. Stop in or check their calendar for something specific. You'll have a great time!

We went to The Promontory to see Robert Glasper for a live show. The space itself is upscale but not so upscale that it seems exclusive. The space is intimate and dim with dark colored wood. The bar in the middle of the entrance is massive. A couple of feet from the bar is outside deck/seating area. The door retract to open up. Everyone was dressed really casual. Not a lot of jeans and tennis shoes here. The sound was all good. There wasnt a lot of standing room to watch the show but we made do. There was a surprise at the show, R Kelly came out and sang a little this made the show pretty good. The music venue is upstairs and the restaurant is downstairs. I eat here because from looking at the menu there aren't many things that might agree with my palate. I'm sorry to disappoint about the food but hey? Also, the parking can be a royal pain in the you know what, but if your from Chicago you should know this already. Im from Wisconsin....Go figure!

Last night.. I visit the promontory. I came an nuo soul band. As always, I Had a great time. Great music, Great vibe and Great people. Sunday nights are great night to visit the promontory. Before the show, you're able to get a drink, have dinner. I need to come to here more often.

Leftover sweet potatoes and Shishito peppers today for lunch...

Was there Saturday night 12/22. Open, yet intimate restaurant/bar space on first floor. Good music playing in bar. Not too loud, and lighting not too dark. Bar staff were all super nice, and one guy in particular went above and beyond to get a silver sharpie for me so my EP could get signed by one of the musicians, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, who we were there to see!! Five stars for that alone : ) Food was great. Good portion size and lots of interesting apps. The sweet potatoes with tiny popped sorghum were the best I have ever had anywhere - hearth roasted, glazed, charred, tender yumminess. And the charred, smoky Shishito peppers with miso mayo (aioli) were soooo good. The charcuterie was great with more interesting selections and portions than many restaurants. And creamy, smoked feta !!! I would 100% recommend this place and will be back. Our waiter was great, and the GM was super accommodating to the table next to house needing a drink recommendation. Music venue upstairs is really nice. Small-ish room, good sound and you can actually get coffee- something a lot of places do not have; and on top of that it was hot and good! Worth going to if you don't live in Hyde Park. Will be back for sure. Food/drinks not cheap but worth it.

We love the music venue! In one weekend we saw the Lakha Khan, Hamid Drake, Karl Berger, David Murray, Shanta Nurullah & Classic Black, Ari Brown, and the mighty Pharaoh Sanders with the brilliant Chicago Underground Duo! This was part of the "Old and New Dreams - Hothouse Festival" to raise money to resurrect Hothouse. The Promontory has a great PA with speakers in the ceiling spaced through the room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The drinks are very affordably price. We will definitely be back. Their bookings are solid.

The line to get in was a bit long (however covered since it was raining which was nice). The venue is located upstairs so we waited along since a long set of stairs with everyone else. The security here wasn't rude or anything which was a good sign from off the bat, and once we got inside we had a lot of space to roam around towards the back when we wanted drinks or whatever which made it easy to not stress about needing to be at the very front of the dancing floor space. Drinks weren't outrageously expensive which was nice, and we genuinely had a good time here! We saw Chance the Rapper make an appearance in the crowd and he was standing right by us which was super cool! Overall - nice space, and I know they always have events here and apparently food(?). I didn't see food, but I see reviews mentioning food. Anyways, would recommend.

The Midway Plaisance is actually NOT quite completely owned by the University, which is probably why this is able to be here. On Midway P, you are literally in the the middle of the street, with long, gorgeous soccer fields around you. There are 2 stages, going east and west, with great acoustics (ok I'm not an expert). There are food trucks and beverages, but you can bring your own; same with chairs too. It starts early afternoon and goes until 9 or 10 at night, but it is NOT wall to wall music, as there are other venues (indoor) that need attention too. The artists may be up and comers or veterans, maybe not whom you would see in Jazz Review. Note: The big bands are on the outside stages, whereas the the 'small' groups (trios, quartets, soloists) are in the small indoor areas (churches, art centers at the U of C, even Hyde Park Bank!). There are shuttle buses that can take you to vendors, and a down and upsides are that one can't stay in the same venue for too long. On a nice day when strolling is fun, with NO limited mobility, that's a good activity. The downside to late Sept/early fall is cool weather, rain and HORNETS!

Owner Norman Bolden renovated and reconstructed this building into *the* event space for South Siders and anybody seeking a lovely, centrally located and well-appointed space. Its appeal lies in its loft-style charm -- a split-level, open floor plan boasting gleaming mahogany floors and exposed brick that you can pretty much decorate any way you want for your event. After attending almost a dozen birthday parties, holiday parties, wedding receptions and fraternity and sorority events at Room 43, I knew that this was the only place where I wanted to hold my dad's 80th birthday party. It was the right decision. Rental rates are reasonable for the space that you get (there are two rooms to choose from) and a variety of chairs and tables are included for both the upstairs and downstairs. You supply your own linens, food, DJ and decorations. The onsite staff is also incredibly helpful. The facilities manager Richard is really great -- flexible and accommodating for all of the last-minute changes that come with party planning. The 80+ guests at my dad's party loved the venue. It's easily accessible from North or South from the Oakwood exit on Lake Shore Drive, and also the 43rd Street exit on the Dan Ryan. There is plenty of street parking as well. Lucky for the owner that he was on-site and actually stayed awhile for my dad's party, because several guests were so impressed they inquired about having their own events there. One thing that some have complained about: You can't bring your own liquor, and unless you pay for a tab, your guests are subject to a cash bar. I don't honestly find this unusual, and I paid a tab that allowed guests to enjoy open bar for about 3 hours. In addition to being a party space, Room 43 is also home to the Hyde Park Jazz Society, and you can catch all of their shows there on Sunday evenings. Anyone who reads me, by now, knows that I am big on supporting local businesses, and for the quality, service and location, I absolutely recommend Room 43. Room 43 is an emerging destination spot and represents the best of the "new" Kenwood-Oakland/Bronzeville community. I would not hesitate to give them my business again!
