The salmon was not only perfectly grilled it was beautifully presented! It was totally fab'! It was served on a bed of veggies with an amazing yellow sauce! The cauliflower appetizer had tremendous flavor and was also artistically plated. Delish'! Our other app, deviled eggs, were, well, deviled eggs that reminded me of many a church basement. But, it too had an artistic delivery to it. The étouffée was tasty and nicely prepared w grilled (not boiled) shrimp. It's a lovely atmosphere and not overly noisy for how many people it holds. If I were to make any complaint it is that the overhead lights are turned on fully & brightly at 10 pm. Not a gentle increase over a few minutes but an immediate, full-on "get out, go home, leave NOW" feeling. Considering the prices and the otherwise wonderful evening, not cool. What gives Mesler? :-( All in all, a fun experience with tasty food. Don't not go, there is lots to like, but be sure you are done & gone by 9:58. I'm going to give this place another chance. I went about 30 minutes before the kitchen closed on a Saturday night, so I am going to assume my displeasure was because of my timing. First, the place is beautiful. It is elegantly decorated. The bar is the focal point and it does not disappoint. The staff are well trained in professionalism. However, there was only one waiter at the time I visited and the hostess let us know that the kitchen was closing soon when she sat us, but it took so long for the waiter to show up that we were down to just a few minutes before the kitchen closed. My drink came out and the waiter left, but after tasting the drink, it wasn't as I desired. Someone else bought my salad out, the Cobb Salad. The bacon on the salad was very undercooked, I have requested an extra side of salad dressing which I did not receive, and the lettuce was low quality. The french fries were well seasoned, but were limp and soft. I sat for a good 10 to 15 minutes waiting for our waiter to return so my drink could be corrected and I could get my extra salad dressing. I didn't bother mentioning the undercooked bacon or the soggy fries because I knew the kitchen was closed at that point. I had to yell across the restaurant to get his attention because he never came back to check on us. I thought the salad was overpriced for the quality of it. The drink was okay once I added what was needed. I hope when I return, I have a better experience and like my dish better. read more

The person who brought water barely opened her mouth when we asked a question. Our server was the only bright spot (he refers to customers at "friends"). Mesler Kitchen Bar Lounge is a beautiful space tucked inside a nice hotel in Hyde Park. We stopped by for breakfast and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful which was perfect to start the day. The food did not disappoint: the pancakes were flavorful, the cheese eggs were tasty and the burger was really nice. Overall is a was a nice solid brunch and one i would have again. The space itself has a cozy and welcoming vibe and I really enjoyed the experience. Service was good as well. Our server was attentive, accommodating, and made sure we had everything we needed. I absolutely love and adore the Mesler Kitchen Bar Lounge. It is located in Hyde Park and is attached to the Sophie hotel. There is parking on the street but you have to pay for it. It also may be a bit difficult to find parking because Hyde Park is so busy. The ambience is always so glamorous and upscale. I love the fire place, it's such an added touch. This bar lounge has so much character. The staff are always nice and friendly. When I arrived I was instantly greeted and they sat us. We recover service rather fast and didn't have to wait. The food came out in a good amount of time was delicious. They also have really good drinks. You can't go wrong with any that you order. read more

So I love this bar however, I dont understand why you all would get rid of the best dishes you have on your menu which was the deviled eggs. They were delicious and now theyre gone. I will preface this review by saying this is based on drinks only. I will say this place was packed and I appreciate the host making some space available for us. Our server also provided quick service. I enjoyed the laureate with its fruitful flavors for a whisky drink. However my spouses hibiscus margarita was quite watered down. I went yesterday for brunch with friends. Upon entry, there was no host/hostess to greet me. A woman with an apron was leaning on the bar talking to someone who looked at me but then looked away. The bartender had to signal to her to address me after I was standing there a couple minutes. That wasn't great. I found out she was the bartender. We sat in the lobby area because it was a little after one when the dining room closes. It was cute and cozy. I had the chicken and waffles with the espresso mocktail. I really enjoyed the chicken and waffles, but my chicken breast was unevenly cooked. Part was juicy and the other was dried out and tough. It also needed more seasoning. Still, I enjoyed it. The espresso mocktail was not good at all. Also, I waited over 30 minutes for it. It came out after our entrees and I ordered it upon arrival. The server said the bartender was out of an ingredient and needed to go to the storage room to get it. That was a missed opportunity to ask me to order something else sooner or to put the drink on the house for bringing it so late and after my friend had finished her drink. We have dined at this restaurant twice. Just way too much money for the food you get. My husband and I went for breakfast this morning. He got the pancakes (5 pancakes with a little bottle of syrup-that's it). They were pancakes-a little under done. I got the vegetarian omelette. It did come with a salad that was nice. But honestly, go to Plein Air Cafe down the street. The omelette's are WAY better. We got the pancakes, omelette & two sodas (Pepsi ) that cost us $60. Come on! I don't mind paying for good food/service. But, I didn't feel like this was worth it. Also, they included the tip in the total. Um... can't I decide what I want to pay for service? There were only two of us. I get it if there is a large group. I would have left a bigger tip-but since they put it in for me I left it. How do they know how well the server is going to help us before we eat? (I had to ask for a refill and he never checked on us-just saying). Also, really odd. When we walked in and said there would be two of us-the host said, "let me go look and see if we have anything". Why doesn't she already know that. Then, when she sat us the place was half empty. Mesler Hyde Park gives you a mixed experience. The ambiance is nice. The space feels clean and intentional. The menu is limited but the food tastes good once it reaches your table. The issues start early. The front door was locked, and I had to wait for someone to open it before I could even enter. Drinks are expensive. I paid twenty-three dollars for a neat 1738. Service was the biggest problem. I had to chase my waitress down for basic needs. It was not busy, but the service felt like it was. Slow drink refills. No check-ins. No urgency. Only at the end did I learn the tip was already included, which explained a lot. Good food and nice ambiance, but the service and pricing make the experience feel uneven. (If there was a garage I wasn't paying attention lol) I came with a friend for brunch on Sunday. We didn't have a reservation but after checking in with the hostess, we had a quick wait under 10 minutes and then we were seated at a table by the fireplace. There didn't seem to be an abundance of seating in the place, so at its full capacity it's still an aesthetically pleasing space. I ordered the French toast and a side of chicken sausage, with a coffee. The French toast was simple but good. And the chicken sausage was tasty, I wish there were two links served instead of one. I'm giving this a zero rating because my experience was absolutely the worst. My friend and I, a party of two, arrived at The Messler on Memorial Day for an early dinner. Despite a slight crowd and plenty of open tables, we waited about four minutes before someone came from behind the bar to seat us by the window. Our waiter asked us to be patient as she was handling a lot of tables, which we were definitely okay with. She came back to take our order, and we reiterated our choices multiple times, as we had already looked at the menu before arriving. Despite this, we waited over an hour for our food. We had to flag her down to check on the status, and it seemed like she was avoiding us. Multiple tables that arrived after us received their food and desserts before us. People at the bar, who arrived after us, also got their food before us. It seemed like a miscommunication or she forgot to put our order in, which is understandable, but she never came back to give us any updates. Our parking expired before we got our food, which was very frustrating. By the time our food arrived, it was time for me to leave. She never came back to check on us, and I had to go to the bar to ask for to-go boxes. To top it off, the food was burnt. While I would love to recommend The Messler, based on this visit, I just cannot and will not be visiting them anytime soon. read more

While visiting Chicago, I got dinner at Mesler with one of my best friends who was born and raised in Hyde Park. It was a vibe, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire dining experience. We ordered three courses--appetizers, entrees, and dessert--and all the dishes were a hit. The salmon entree was actually one of the best salmon preparations I've had in a while. The ambiance reminded me of one of my favorite TV shows: The Chi. There was an eclectic mix of people in the restaurant, the space was tastefully decorated with inclusive art, and the overall interior design was modern and sleek. Service was a bit slow at times, but our server was wonderful overall! One of my childhood friends invited me to brunch because it was time for us to catch up and I suggested this place. We were blown away! All the menu offerings looked tasty but I chose a Bloody Mary, the shrimp and grits and the berry compote to go with my toast. My girl chose the raspberry julep and the lobster roll. We ended up with the MidDay menu and the only seating was in the bar area / other half of the hotel lobby. We were told 30 min wait however for a party of 4 there was only two booths and both parties were enjoying their Sunday with friends and family and had to intentions on leaving anytime soon. We opted for the halfway height tops in front of the fireplace which was HOT so we decided to move to sit in the lounge low seating by the window which was only for 2 so we were separate however it was perfect we were able to chat and enjoy lunch still. We had the following across the group - Cailiflower bite app - Lobster roll - Turkey burger The hostess wasn't very welcoming which almost caused me to about FACE The only reason we stayed was because of the hunger and promise for seating soon as well as the menu which the entire group agreed on. read more

Let me first say that I love Mesler however, they have a serious issue with their heat during these cold temperatures this year. In my experience their service has always been inconsistent and often quite poor, but because we like the environment and it's in the community, we go back. I recently dined in about 2 weeks ago and it was cold and there was not adequate heat. Servers were saying they were cold, guest were cold and the manager said there was an issue with the heat and maintenance was working on it. That was 2 weeks ago. I came back to dine with friends after that and the same scenario. Mesler what's the issue??? Why is this acceptable??? Your menu dictates premium prices and this should not be the experience. If you guys don't care it's probably time to retire dining at Mesler. read more

This review is for restaurant but it's inside a beautiful hotel so this review discusses some aspects of the hotel. Unfortunately the really bad attitude of the hostess in the restaurant is where I'll start. We stayed at this hotel a few nights and loved so much about it but the food service was really lacking... but not all of it. Only our interaction with Diamond (in the rough, I guess), who will be referred to as the hostess with the mostest from this point forward. The food was good though. The ambience is good but it depends on what you like. We were wanting to dine in the quieter section of the restaurant for dinner at 5:00 but the hostess with the mostest sat us in one of the only two booths in the bar which was amazingly loud and busy and could have been used by a bigger party that wanted to be in that setting . When I asked to be seated in the dining room, she said it was reserved for folks with reservations. I asked to speak with the manager and was greeted by Attica who was going to seat us in the area we requested but said the hostess with the mostest might be right when I told her what the hostess said. She then came back to us and said the hostess with the mostest was correct and the area was full with reservations. Of course I made a reservation for dinner in the dining room and an hour later went to let the hostess with the mostest know, but I asked for the manager first so the hostess with the mostest would know I'm not here for her games and attitude. When I let the manager know, she said let the hostess with the mostest know. When I told the hostess with the mostest I was here for my reservation, she replied with all the attitude she could muster up to ask me if my whole party was here. When I replied yes, she asked me "are you sure?". I could not believe it! The manager in the meantime went over to the rest of my party and brought us to be seated. We were then served by Teshia, who was nothing short of AMAZING! (Oh, I can't forget to let you know we had an interaction with the hostess with the mostest the day before where she uninvited our party from the lounge area of the bar saying we were taking up too many spaces and wanted to squeeze 7 of us into a booth when everyone was doing their own thing. Four of the seven just left and took their business elsewhere.) I am a connoisseur of fine food experiences and customer service (hence the Yelp Elite status) and this establishment really needs to support the hostess with the mostest with proper training or get her out of there before they lose anymore business. read more

This place is mad swank. I went here for a lunch date and enjoyed the ambiance. I almost felt underdressed for a weekday afternoon--nice-sized personal tables. I can see Mesler being an excellent evening date location. I got the steak and eggs, and my friend got the French toast. The food was ok, nothing to really get overly excited over. The steak was cooked well, and the French toast was good. We had a good waiter, and the price wasn't too bad. Overall not a bad first experience, but if you want a sexy date spot to enjoy your loved one, Mesler isn't a wrong choice at all. 3 out of 5 read more
