I did not realize this place was connected to a hotel It seemed upscale with a variety of patrons some appeared to be having a business meeting some families and other working on laptops I ordered a spicy chicken sandwhich & grilled broccolini The broccolinie tasted like rhe grill.. and had a very smokey flavor the chicken sandwhich was fine. It was friedd and tossed in a wet sauce They have multiple espresso martini on the menu I tried the one made with a bana syrup 4/5 Guava margarita 4/5-nice flavor but very light alcohol

I absolutely love and adore the Mesler Kitchen Bar Lounge. It is located in Hyde Park and is attached to the Sophie hotel. There is parking on the street but you have to pay for it. It also may be a bit difficult to find parking because Hyde Park is so busy. The ambience is always so glamorous and upscale. I love the fire place, it's such an added touch. This bar lounge has so much character. The staff are always nice and friendly. When I arrived I was instantly greeted and they sat us. We recover service rather fast and didn't have to wait. The food came out in a good amount of time was delicious. They also have really good drinks. You can't go wrong with any that you order.

I will preface this review by saying this is based on drinks only. I will say this place was packed and I appreciate the host making some space available for us. Our server also provided quick service. I enjoyed the laureate with its fruitful flavors for a whisky drink. However my spouses hibiscus margarita was quite watered down. Also beware the prices shown in menu were not accurate and we were charged more than expected. I think it's a decent place to stop in and grab a drink for Hyde park. 7.5/10

    Vegetarian omelette with hash brown

I went yesterday for brunch with friends. Upon entry, there was no host/hostess to greet me. A woman with an apron was leaning on the bar talking to someone who looked at me but then looked away. The bartender had to signal to her to address me after I was standing there a couple minutes. That wasn't great. I found out she was the bartender. We sat in the lobby area because it was a little after one when the dining room closes. It was cute and cozy. I had the chicken and waffles with the espresso mocktail. I really enjoyed the chicken and waffles, but my chicken breast was unevenly cooked. Part was juicy and the other was dried out and tough. It also needed more seasoning. Still, I enjoyed it. The espresso mocktail was not good at all. Also, I waited over 30 minutes for it. It came out after our entrees and I ordered it upon arrival. The server said the bartender was out of an ingredient and needed to go to the storage room to get it. That was a missed opportunity to ask me to order something else sooner or to put the drink on the house for bringing it so late and after my friend had finished her drink. So, the food was good, but not the service. My friend had the vegetarian omelette and said it was great as well.

Came in on a Monday morning, I didn't make reservations. The place looks really nice, there was light music. Plenty of good lighting. We were seated right away; and given a menu and water. The food came out quickly. I really enjoyed my shrimp and grits, it came with smoked sausage and was packed with flavor. It was filling and delicious. My friend ordered the meat lovers omelet. She was surprised it came with a salad.

A neighborhood little gem. Its fairly small and service a bit slow. However, beautiful ambiance and a place to chill or have business meetings. The food is okay but remember its a boutique hotel and not a true restaurant.

Nice restaurant.. Good service.. Good decor... I ordered the burger and fries w/ bacon.. really good burger... It's a smash burger type, so good, a lot of flavor and big portions... I tasted the deviled eggs and i wasn't impressed at all, very underwhelming... Next time I'm in Chicago i will come back here again.

We stopped in before dinner to grab drinks. Staff was very nice, but the menus we were given did not reflect actual/current prices so we were charged significantly more than we expected at the end of the night. My husband enjoyed his drinks, but mine, the hibiscus margarita tasted like water which was disappointing.

Should have been better. I'll stick to happy hour. Sunday brunch was "meh". The posting said jazz brunch but apparently wasn't. YET I LEFT A GREAT TIP

Really enjoyed the ambiance here. Some of the side seating has smaller tables but love the dividing fireplace and the vibes. Evening was giving dim and sexy. Perfect for a date night. Service was great. She was friendly, attentive, and promptly brought anything we requested. I really enjoyed my crab cake and as well as the decorative sauce. My pasta, was divine! Paired perfectly. My dates plate was empty by the end, so it's safe to say he enjoy his meal. We also ordered our drink of choice which did not disappoint. I would definitely come back.

Welcoming decor and atmosphere. This restaurant and bar is connected to a hotel, I believe. Parking is on the street. (If there was a garage I wasn't paying attention lol) I came with a friend for brunch on Sunday. We didn't have a reservation but after checking in with the hostess, we had a quick wait under 10 minutes and then we were seated at a table by the fireplace. There didn't seem to be an abundance of seating in the place, so at its full capacity it's still an aesthetically pleasing space. I ordered the French toast and a side of chicken sausage, with a coffee. The French toast was simple but good. And the chicken sausage was tasty, I wish there were two links served instead of one. I was visiting Chicago when I came but would definitely come back for drinks to see how that atmosphere is.

I'm giving this a zero rating because my experience was absolutely the worst. My friend and I, a party of two, arrived at The Messler on Memorial Day for an early dinner. Despite a slight crowd and plenty of open tables, we waited about four minutes before someone came from behind the bar to seat us by the window. Our waiter asked us to be patient as she was handling a lot of tables, which we were definitely okay with. She came back to take our order, and we reiterated our choices multiple times, as we had already looked at the menu before arriving. Despite this, we waited over an hour for our food. We had to flag her down to check on the status, and it seemed like she was avoiding us. Multiple tables that arrived after us received their food and desserts before us. People at the bar, who arrived after us, also got their food before us. It seemed like a miscommunication or she forgot to put our order in, which is understandable, but she never came back to give us any updates. Our parking expired before we got our food, which was very frustrating. By the time our food arrived, it was time for me to leave. She never came back to check on us, and I had to go to the bar to ask for to-go boxes. To top it off, the food was burnt. While I would love to recommend The Messler, based on this visit, I just cannot and will not be visiting them anytime soon.

Nestled inside the Sophy hotel this place has a very artsy and sophisticated feel yet laid back in luxury all mixed together. Hyde Park is a Chicago staple neighborhood that is rich in education, history and arts amongst other things. We arrived after Sunday brunch had ended unfortunately as a friend of mine dj the brunch but the night before called for extra time counting sheep. We ended up with the MidDay menu and the only seating was in the bar area / other half of the hotel lobby. We were told 30 min wait however for a party of 4 there was only two booths and both parties were enjoying their Sunday with friends and family and had to intentions on leaving anytime soon. We opted for the halfway height tops in front of the fireplace which was HOT so we decided to move to sit in the lounge low seating by the window which was only for 2 so we were separate however it was perfect we were able to chat and enjoy lunch still. We had the following across the group - Cailiflower bite app - Lobster roll - Turkey burger The hostess wasn't very welcoming which almost caused me to about FACE The only reason we stayed was because of the hunger and promise for seating soon as well as the menu which the entire group agreed on.

Service was a bit slow. It took 45 mins to get our first dish, which was the halibut. First, just want to comment that the portion size is quite small relative to the price of the dishes. The halibut. This was very delicious. Somehow the blueberry nuoc cham works? The fish was tender and flaky. The sauce was salty and full of umami with a hint of blueberry sweetness. This fish dish made me crave for a bowl of steaming hot bfluffy white rice. The string beans. Unless you are allergic to nuts, this is a must get dish. Perfectly cooked string beans (still crispy but not raw) sautéed with fish sauce vinaigrette was an absolute delight. It's also on the salty side which made me crave rice but it's such a flavor bomb. The cashews provided a contrast in texture but yet complemented the seemingly simple dish. I wish the portions were bigger. The galbi. It's was good but compared to the first 2 dishes, didn't really wow me. The meat was one rib strip (4 rib bones) cut into 4 pieces so it's a rather small portion for the price. The stone fruit slices was a nice pairing in that it provided a sweet and tart contrast to the heavier meat flavor. After trying this dish, I felt I personally prefer the LA galbi marinade flavor and preparation for short ribs. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place. Would come back for the string beans on a splurge day .

However, I did enjoy the mornay sauce and garlic aioli that came on the side. SINGLE CHEESEBURGER - 17.99 +3.49 for egg Over $20 for a burger that doesn't come with sides? I was a little disappointed my burger came with a side of a knife instead. I thought the whole gimmick was having the knife strike straight down into the burger. Beyond that, the burger wasn't anything unique. The bun itself was dry and mid, not the soft and fluffy bun I had envisioned. Everything else was fine -- not bad, but certainly not great. While it wasn't a bad burger, I can't help but feel incredibly disappointed given the hype around Au Cheval burgers. My friend told me the way to "fully experience" Au Cheval is to get the cheeseburger plus both the egg and bacon add-ons, which our server also recommended. I did try a piece of my friend's bacon with my burger and it does add a depth of smoky sweetness. However, that becomes a 17.99 + 3.49 + 6.99 = 28.47 for a burger. That's insane. The add-ons themselves cost more than half of the burger. I'm not doing that to my wallet. Sorry, but this was a disappointing experience for me. I'd rather just go to Shake Shack, which at least comes with tasty and juicy burgers for 1/3 of the price.

We started with a bottle of red and our server suggested 4-6 plates for two, since it's tapas-style with small plates, some big plates, and weekly Test Kitchen specials. The menu's super unique. Baked clams and the jalapeño biscuit were delicious. My personal favorite was the SORTALINI -- "sort of tortellini" cheese-filled pasta rings. Light texture, smoky umami flavor, with smoked tomatoes, guanciale, and pine nuts. Another winner is the zucchini with shaved goat cheese. We also had the drunken beef with chicken fat. I am already planning our next visit to try other items on the menu.
