I came here with a couple of buddies expecting to get a quick meal before a pleasant evening out. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted with careless and inattentive servers. There was a severe level of chaos among the younger ones as they frequently took long trips to the janitorial area to vape together and neglect their duties. I could smell the fumes from the closet and this foul aroma pervaded my nostrils for the rest of the meal. When the food finally arrived I was completely and utterly dissatisfied. The sandwich was very soggy and the drink I ordered was stale and tasteless. Disappointed with my food, I was in a rush to exit the establishment. I felt no need to tip as the service I received was not worthy of any extra payment. One of the teenagers whom I had previously spotted vaping, was upset by this, and demanded I tip her despite her not even being my waitress. She scurried over to her friends to complain about our interaction and slander me in front of my buddies. Not only was I left feeling embarrassed, but also nauseous due to my poor dining experience. The service from managers and bartenders was unlike anything I've ever experienced. Went to the bar to order a drink told the bartender to please sanitize her hands because she touched her hair, we were sworn at and then the manager came, not thoughtful at all to the customers, told us we were embarrassing. Manager should learn how to manage. No sense of customer service was known from any of the staff. So bad I will never return. Shameful. We did nothing wrong and they acted like we were criminals. Instead of trying to figure out the issue they just kept assaulting us. Pathetic actually. We never go there to cause issues, just to have a good time. Not this time. COVID aside, you don't treat customers that way and for that reason we won't be returning. read more

I met a friend at another establishment in town to watch a game on a Sunday afternoon, and after realizing there was a table of twelve children screaming, we decided to walk across the street to Cover Two. There's a difference between the cacophony of screaming kids and the roar of screaming football fans, even if the noise level is the same. Moving over to here was a great choice as there were at least six televisions we could see, and all the major games were being shown. We managed to find seats at the bar, and our bartender was right over to take our order. He dropped off our drinks and a food menu, and, since the bar was busy, went off to serve the next customer. However, he was always there if we needed a refill, or had a question about the menu. My friend saw the fried pickles, and she needed to try them. These were spears, breaded and deep fried, instead of the chips which are mostly coating. A great change! My friend is a fussy eater, and she asked if she could design her own sandwich. This apparently wasn't a problem, and our bartender wrote down everything she wanted. I ordered off the extensive menu: the Chicken Cutlet Deluxe, although, there were at least seven other things that were tempting, which is very unusual since I have trouble finding even one item that I would be interested in. Although the place was packed, both in the bar and the dining room, our food came out quickly and was hot and correct. The fries (which I shouldn't be eating anyway) were the first thing I devoured. Nice and crispy. My friend's sandwich was exactly what she ordered. She ignored her fries, however, and I ended up cleaning them off her plate for her. Overall, a great little sports bar, whether you're into the games or not. Lots of great beers and the not only had the variety of wine I like, but the specific vineyard I prefer. The burger honestly tasted as if it was baked. It was simply as bland as could be Found it odd to that when I ordered an iced teaabi was told immediately that theRe are no free refills .... uh ok Lastly, in regard to service, it is a bar so I'm not expecting 4 star, but you should train the kids working that clearing a table means more than taking a plate. Came here with my family and sadly wasn't impressed. We walked into the restaurant/ bar and it was crazy. Very loud and the wait staff seemed overwhelmed. We sat in the back area of the restaurant which was a lot quieter and nice. However, since we were in the back it felt like we were forgotten. Took awhile for our waitress to get organized and it seemed like we had about 4 different people waiting on us which was confusing. When we got our food I got the honey BBQ wings and sadly they were very mediocre and no one offered us any refills on our drinks. However, I will say their onion rings are to die for! I've never sat down and had a meal here, but I've gotten take out and it was delicious! I got the buffalo wings and mozzarella sticks. The wings were crispy (I recommend getting them well done) and the marinara sauce that came with the mozzarella sticks was amazing. The first sports bar I have ever loved. The food is what I love, and it's a bit of a different take on bar food. Sure there are wings and burgers, but here the wings come in dozens of creative flavors as well as the usual "hot, hotter and stupid hot." The burgers are made from excellent fresh beef, which you taste instantly when you order medium rare. And they actually serve medium rare when you ask for it. And then the menu gets interesting. The Philly Cheesesteak egg roll is a favorite, and the kale salad that my friend always gets is actually delicious. These are just a couple of the unexpected, creative treats on the menu. The finishing touch is that the waitstaff is consistently top shelf. Anyone who makes wisecracks about millennials should come here and see the crew doing a great job with great attitudes. read more

Amazing location in downtown sandy hook and again the service is great. Even with the crazy Covid-19 scare they kept up the top notch service. Went there for a birthday party age 69, made reservation. We read on their web site free wings for you bd if you spend $20. When we ordered we were told there is a max of 50 free wings. We were not told this when we made the reservation for 14 people for a birthday. We asked did they need the age count for wings they said no. We have gone to Michaels Cafe and TK's so many times they always give wings based on your age for your birthday. Our group was disappointed the bill was over $230 +. We asked if they would include the extra 19 wings as a credit they said NO! Service was slow and different wait staff came and went constantly. It took a long time to get our bill. This place is a classic sports bar. They have TVs, music, and pub food/drink. If you're expecting a romantic sit-down dinner, this isn't really the space for it. This place is fun for casual meal or for sharing snacks and laughs with friends. In regards to the menu -- you won't be raving about it, but you won't be disappointed, either. I'm normally not a wing person, but theirs were meaty and I liked the wide variety of sauce options! Cover 2 isn't pretentious and it doesn't try to be something it's not. I used to regular this spot on fridays and Saturdays but have not been since March or so. I started coming back in after going stir crazy at home recently and I felt like I was in a totally different bar. I used to love it here but it has definitely taken a turn for the worse. New lady behind the bar was extremely abrasive and made me feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable.This place used to be a hidden gem because you could get really good cocktails and good service at a sports bar of all places. Went to Cover Two today for lunch. This is a typical sports bar and restaurant. It has many TVs covering sporting events. They have a nice large selection of bottled and draft beer, along with wine and other beverages. The food was average, typical bar food from burgers, salads, etc. Good service and friendly staff of workers. We went here with a large group of people for a bimonthly night out. The food is outstanding and the service is great. A very comfortable atmosphere and that led to a fantastic time. This review will probably get taken down, but I have never been more disrespected at a restaurant in my life. As I am being served, the waiter is obviously in a rush and is very sloppy with both writing down our orders and listening to what we said. If she wasn't rushing away as we finished placing our order, she would have heard that I am severely allergic to carrots and celery, so I could not have them on my plate of wings. When our food comes out, apart from each of our orders being wrong, my plate had carrots and celery on it. I understand that this is not a typical accommodation, and was very polite and reserved when I told the waiter that I was unable to eat this because I was allergic. My plate is taken away and returned in a matter of seconds by a different waiter. It was clear that the vegetables were simply taken off and put back on, so I called another waitress to get a new plate of food. While I was waiting for my food, the original server returned and scolded me in front of my friends and the rest of the restaurant for my failure to order properly. As soon as she finished, I called for the manager, because it was quite humiliating and I felt that the manager would want to know this to address later on. The manager, named Tyler, was extremely dismissive and rolled his eyes several times at me. When my check came back, I decided not to leave a tip, while my friends did, for I feel that the service that I received was not deserving of any extra money. When the server returned to collect the check, with the manager only a few feet away, she said, "Next time you don't tip, I will automatically add a tip to your card". This was such a disrespectful encounter, and I went up to the manager again, and it became clear that the lack of people skills came from the management. I was ignored, told to relax, and told that I don't have to ever return again. I hope that no one has to experience the disrespect that I endured, and that the owner and the Cover Two establishment are ashamed of how they treated a paying customer. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. This was the worst resturant experiance I have ever had in my entire life. It started with me and my friends ordering, and one of my friends is allergic to carrots and celery. when he ordered his wings he told the waitress that he couldn't have them on his plat since he is allergic. They bring out the food, and He has celery on his plate. To add on they also messed up my sauce as I got blue cheese instead of ranch. So my friend tells one of the workers that he cant have the celery as he is allergic, so they take the plate, take the celery off, and bring it right back after 1 minute, but the plate is still contaminated. After about 5 minutes, we get help, and the only good waiter there helped us and got us new wings. So we then talked to manager named Tyler. Right off the bat I knew why the service was so bad, because of him. He had the same attitude as our waitress, and really didn't help us. He gave us a little thing of ice cream for our troubles. After another 10 minutes of waiting, we finally got the checks, and paid. The waitress didn't serve us anymore either, it was another person. As we get our money back, this random waitress said if we don't tip well, they will just add gratuity automatically. This was such a bad comment since she had no Idea of the circumstances. We also left a decent tip too for the little food we got. When we were walking out, we told the manager how bad it was and that we didn't even want the ice cream again, and that we would never be back again. He said we don't want you back. As we drove out , he was watching us as if we were the bad guys. The customer is always right in the resturant business, but not to them. End of story, we will never be there again, and we will tell everyone about our horrid experiance at cover two in Newtown Ct. read more

Since my last review Cover 2 has had a complete makeover right down to a state-of-the-art beer refrigeration system. It has definitely changed from a rustic neighborhood bar to an upscale sports bar. All the remodeling changes aside, the food and the friendly atmosphere are the main attraction at C2. My favorite is the Shrimp Scampi with fresh Julienne vegetables and rice pilaf. Each time, it had a different name and the decor may have changed but the food was not good at all. ...Enter Cover Two! Finally, someone took this place and turned in into what everyone wanted... A great place for families to gather after a sports game. Great prices for a quick family meal and Awesome for teens (they love the night when chicken wings are really inexpensive). The location is perfect -- In the heart of Downtown Sandy Hook -- If you sit outside you can people watch, or take a quick little walk over the foot bridge and look at the Pootatuck River. The food is average bar food in my opinion. I got an Oreo frozen pie slice for dessert since we ate at the Sandy Hook diner next door. My drink was really delicious. I ordered a mimosa and it tasted fresh. The Oreo pie hit the spot. Our waitress was great. She gave recommendations on drinks and food and she seemed like she genuinely liked her job. My friends and I have been coming here for years now and last night will be the last time we will be back. It started off with our waitress not listening to my friend saying he couldn't have celery on his plate because he's allergic and when they served us there was celery on the plate. We then asked for a new plate of wings and they just threw out the celery and gave him the same wings that were contaminated with the celery, we then got a new plate a couple minutes later. After this our waitress scolded my friend for not telling her about his allergy and throughout the whole dinner she didn't ask us if we needed a refill, napkins or at least how the food was, other teenagers were doing her job for us which is sad. When my friend talked to the owner Tyler he didn't seem to care and just rolled his eyes when we were telling him about our troubles he compensated my friend with a thing of ice cream. The only other time our waitress talked to us when we she asked about the checks, she's lucky she even got a tip even though she didn't do her job. A couple minutes later some random waitress looked at how much we tipped and said next time we come we'll add the tip for you because we didn't leave a good enough tip, this was so out of line because she didn't even know why our waitress got such a bad tip. After that my friend was flabbergasted by her words and talked to the owner again he still didn't care and told us to if we didn't like the way we were being treated to never come back. It's sad that the owner doesn't know how to treat paying customers he needs to fix his attitude because it's trickling down on his workers. read more
