As a proud, card-carrying member of the "Find the Best Wings in Connecticut" father-son tour, I have to start by tipping my hat to my fellow Yelpers... because you were absolutely right. My son and I rolled into TK's American Cafe with high hopes and empty stomachs, ready to see if this stop could challenge the reigning champions of our wing universe: J. Timothy's Taverne and The Groggy Frog. Punchline: It didn't dethrone the champs... but the experience itself was still pretty great. First, the atmosphere is fantastic. Old wooden booths, high tops, TVs right at the table, KENO(!!!), and that perfect slightly chaotic sports-bar energy that tells you wings are about to happen. The décor fits the town vibe perfectly and the place just feels like a wing institution. The service? Excellent. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic -- exactly the kind of crew you want guiding you through 70+ wing sauces like a sommelier of poultry. Now... the wings. The chicken itself was excellent quality and cooked perfectly. Crispy skin, juicy meat, great size -- everything you want when the wings arrive. When we saw the massive sauce selection, we were ready for wing nirvana. But this is where the prophecy of Yelp reviews past came true. The sauces were delicious in flavor... but thin in viscosity. Instead of lovingly clinging to the wings like a good sauce should, many of them staged a dramatic escape and formed a puddle at the bottom of the platter. So instead of eating wings, we spent half the meal doing a sort of wing-dunking relay, re-dipping each bite back into the sauce lagoon. To be fair, the teriyaki and barbecue-based sauces held on better, but if you're a classic hot-sauce wing person like me, you may find your wings swimming more than sticking. The blue cheese was excellent, the celery and veggies were fresh and crisp... although the carrots were so wide they looked like they were cut for a horse with impressive jaw strength. Credit where it's due: the steak fries were fantastic, and the nachos were surprisingly great -- the kind that taste like something you could make at home... except somehow way better. So where do we land? Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Very good food overall. But on the Connecticut Wing Power Rankings, the crown still belongs to J. Timothy's and The Groggy Frog. Would I come back? Maybe... but on the drive home we passed about six intriguing Brazilian restaurants and a Pepe's pizza, and suddenly my lunch decision tree got complicated. Still, I'm glad we tried it. TK's is a fun spot with a great vibe -- just maybe bring a spoon so you can scoop the sauce back onto your wings. PS: if you stick blend/emulsify some xanthan gum into the wing sauce when you're making it hot... It will stick perfectly to the wings... I'm continuing my tour of the great CT wing places. My latest first was TK's. We visited right as they were opening on a Tuesday around 11 a.m. on our way out of CT on vacation. The focus of our visit for me was wings, but I also tried some tasty cheese topped chili with chips. And my son's steak fries. They were gigantic! As for the wings, the chicken was high quality and had good texture. The blue cheese was above average, and there lots of pieces of celery and carrots. Most of my comments are about the sauce. I tried 3 sauces. The Hot Buffalo Sauce, which I understand is a CT favorite, was good, but it didn't really stick to the wing. Some of the sauce may have been absorbed in to the skin of the wing, but it wasn't that noticeable flavor-wise. There was a small pool of sauce at the Bottom of the basket rather than on the wings. I suspect the wings weren't adequately tossed in the sauce. Or maybe it was a thin batch of sauce and didn't stick for that reason. In any event, the sauce situation was not ideal for the Buffalo wings. My favorite sauce was the Fire & Ice, which consisted of TK's hot sauce, Ranch and Horseradish. This sauce stuck better to the wings. It had a nice rounded flavor. Mild heat, A bit of tang. A very good sauce. My third sauce was the Dragon. This sauce also stuck to the wing well. It consisted of Honeyaki, Ginger, Suicide sauce and seasoned seeds. The sauce was pretty good, but it didn't taste like I expected given the menu description. I didn't pick up any Ginger, which was what I found intriguing about the description. The sports bar/restaurant itself was cool. There were plenty of big TV's. And smaller TV's at the tables along the outside. Service was very good and friendly. I'd definitely check out TK's again. Next time, I'd probably try to visit at a later time when there were a few more customers there because I wonder if some of the sauce issues were related to it being an off peak time. 4.25 Stars read more

Michelle was our server at our first visit here. She was terrific! Our daughter raved about the wings so we gave it a try for lunch on a summer weekday. It was quiet in this amazing space - TVs everywhere, including in each booth, and the place is sure to be packed for football games. Great vibe. They have a bazillion sauces for the bone-in and boneless wings, from unspiced to fry your face off and lots in between. The bone-in wings were meaty and tasty and the sauce, a combo of hot and honey was delicious. I also tried the boneless wings with buffalo and hot sauce, definitely my fav of the meal. My wife and daughter both had the honey mustard & hit sauce combo. They loved it but not for me... Fries, both curly and sweet potato were very good. I was blown away with this place. Seat yourself upon entering, went straight to the back were it was quieter and intimate. Given it was the final four for basketball we had GREAT service. Super attentive throughout the night. Started with the nachos, got the personal nacho, had cheese on every chip, plenty of veggies. Was gone in 5 minutes. The wings are now apart of my top three go to places. Got fire and ice and Cajun ranch. Damn they were so good, crispy outside, plenty of sauce and the bleu cheese was thick and creamy. As many other reviewers have said- this place is known for its wings because.... The wings are REALLY GREAT! The place is also very casual and comfortable. It is the kind of place you can go to whenever and however you feel. A nice added touch is they have TVs right at many of the tables which you can change the channels to your preference. BIG PLUS for our family and one of the reasons our kids really like this spot! We typically get the wings and to be honest I try to also fill up on a side salad so I eat less wings.... Haha. Their dressings are really good! We have not tried any other fare except our kids who get the usual burgers and chicken tenders which they seem to enjoy. Great friendly service, nice casual restaurant, and delicious wings are the reason we continue to come back to TK's again and again. Do you like wings? If so, come here. TK's claims to have invented the concept of "wing night" over thirty years ago, when a 10¢ wing deal single-handedly saved the bar. They're up to 40¢ each, but they're also up to eight taps and 72 flavors, so your money is going to a good cause. The wings tend to be on the smaller side compared to B-Grade Wonder Wings across town, but I think that's because TK's orders organic poultry. When in doubt, order upward. Service tends to be quick. The ambiance is divey but not dicey. Yelp is asking about EV chargers, and while TK's has none, you can park at WestConn to charge for free, and hoof it up here (at least I do). You may have heard that TK's has a birthday deal -- one wing for every year -- but they stopped that during the pandemic. Head to Cover Two in Sandy Hook if you want a birthday deal. Service is always so fast and staff is always very nice. It's a super lively bar. They have a large selection of beers. The wings are great, a ton of sauces to pick from. I typically like the ugly sauce but sometimes it's way too hot and unenjoyable. Being that I get this sauce every time I'm there, it's easy to notice they don't measure out ingredients consistently. TK's American Cafe is a neighborhood sports bar and restaurant that opened in Danbury, Connecticut in 1990. It was founded by Tom "TK" Kennedy. The building is actually Danbury's oldest continually operating tavern; a gravestone mural outside tells the story of all the previous businesses that called the spot home. Beginning in 1928, the site was home to CK Moore Autos: a car dealership. The first tavern to open on the site was Bennie Pane's Stone Grill in 1933; they obtained the first liquor license in the city. This was then followed by Pane's Restaurant (1937-48), Negri's Grill (1948-59), the 6 & 7 Restaurant (1959-78), The Bushwacker (1978-88), and A.W. Shucks (1988-90) before Kennedy took over. TK's nearly went on the gravestone mural themselves until they started having 10¢ Wing Night every Tuesday. Wing Night is still going strong after more than 30 years and TK's serves over 15,000 of their famous wings each week. I've been to TK's more times than I can count over the years because from 2003-07 I was a college student down the street at Western Connecticut State University. TK's is a very popular watering hole for WestConn students. I celebrated several birthdays here; if you go on your birthday then you get one free wing for every year that you've lived. I recently stopped by for dinner (for old times' sake). After looking over the menu (which consists of 76 wing flavors), I decided to order five Gold Rush (hot sauce & honey mustard), five Ugly (honey BBQ, suicide & bacon bits), five American Outlaw (honey BBQ, liquid smoke, bourbon & cayenne pepper), and five of the Four Horsemen (cocktail of three hot sauces, horseradish, xtra hot cayenne & sesame seeds). At one time they were the hottest wings on the menu, but that honor now belongs to the Bushwacker wings (I didn't have the guts to try them). When I called TK's to let them know and asked to see if they could correct the issue and send out the corrected order I was told that they were not responsible for the wrong wings were sent and it was the resposibility of the delivery company that I received the wrong order. I asked how is that possible if I ordered on you website. The person on the phone kept saying it was delivery company. He did say that I could come and pickup the corrected order. There's no surprise why this place appears to only average three and a half stars. One of the few things anyone ever mentions in their review is the chicken wings, which from my experience are the same as any chicken wings served everywhere else. And offering 72 flavors just indicates to me that 65 of those flavors sit around for far too long. Chicken wings Average 203 calories each, with 8.1 grams of fat! That means that just 5 wings equals about half of an adult male's entire recommended daily caloric intake, and almost two-thirds of an adult woman's daily recommended caloric intake! (Why am I hearing Queen singing "Fat Bottomed Girls"?). Fried chicken wings are also VERY high in cholesterol. I'd also venture that the reason the wings are typically the only thing mentioned in reviews is because it's almost impossible to screw them up and because the reviewers may feel the rest of the menu is not even worth mentioning. Additionally, one can prepare excellent wings at home, with an air-fryer and "Frank's Hot Sauce" for next to nothing! If you enjoy sticky table tops, tiny smelly bathrooms in dire need of remodeling, a dining area that doesn't appear to have been updated since the sixties, rude service, and a tiny outdoor seating area at a very busy intersection where the exhaust fumes and noise can be savored, this place may be for you. They also claim to have eleven beers on tap, when I've never seen more than six. They claim that there's thirty TV's, when it appears to me to be about half that. The regular bartender, 'Jay", always seems to me to have a bad attitude unlike most upbeat bartenders found at other local restaurants, and only seems friendly towards the four or five regular bar flies that are constantly hanging at the bar. I've also had my server bring the credit card reader to my seat with the "28% tip" button already chosen without my consent. Me and my friend came here for the wings they were really good! Crunchy and flavorful. The wings were a nice size too. The waiters were nice and they were sanitizing tables and had hand sanitizer handy. I got the Jerkotydactyl and the wimpy wings. They were both so tasty. My friend has the half/half and the peridactyl wings. Very good as well. We ordered a side of seasoned curly fries they were crunchy and cooked well. Came here with my family recently. The place reminds me of an old pub. We started with mozzarella sticks, the mozzarella sticks were kind of cold but the sauce was very hot. They tasted like typical frozen mozzarella sticks, nothing special. For dinner we had the vampire wings, mild wings. San Francisco fries, and kid's Mac & cheese bites. The food was good! The wings were crunchy and flavorful. My child said the mac & cheese bites were "amazing!" I wish the staff was a little friendlier and attentive. But we would definitely come back. read more

Busy TK's is what it is. A local sports bar with GREAT wings! There aren't too many places that have Spaten on tap. We have always had excellent service..the only problem is that there could possibly be too many sauce choices, but IMO that's a good problem to have. Be careful though, there definition of medium is different than I have ever had, so if you aren't into having taste buds try to stick with the milder sauce combinations! Always very busy. was looking forward to the free bday wings....before it was a wing for each year....now it's 10 per person (in your party total amount offered no more than your age - example 50th bday...50 wings total IF you bring 5 people- each get 10 free wings) but drink purchase is also required. Ordered honey barbeque n jerk wings...top few of each were ok.
