Courthouse Cafe has become a family favorite. Our first experience (at the recommendation of a friend) was their Pizza with a salad. The pizza was amazing as was the salad, which was loaded with fresh veggies! Then when bragging about how great the pizza is on a Facebook group, someone else recommended the breakfast so we went and my daughter, who eats like a bird, completely cleared her plate so I ordered a ruben to take home to my non-breakfast eating husband and he loved it. Old fashioned local diner. The waitstaff are always nice. The food is what you would expect from a diner and you can't beat the prices. They make their own sausage and it's really good. They are open for dinner three nights a week and serve Italian food. It's pretty good too. The place is really small and I've never been there when it wasn't a little bit busy. read more

Do not trust with food allergy or restriction. After education given on allergy causing anaphylaxis to mammal meat months ago still did not list bacon as ingredient in the cowboy pizza. This can be serious to those with allergy. This allergy is real and can cause serious harm if negated. read more

Terrific small-town local diner. If you are looking for upscale, marble floors and candles on the tables, go somewhere else. This is a diner, and if it's open, it's packed. Now what it lacks in "fine dining", it more than makes up for in service, quality of the food, portion size and price. For breakfast, when my wife and I have to work on the weekends, we start our day with a carry out breakfast sandwich. They are so good, that our co-workers in Louisa County ask us to bring them breakfast. What's so special about them? I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's because they are made to order with fresh ingredients and a portion size that makes you question everything you know about the major fast food chains and their breakfast offerings. Lunch/Dinner, I've got to be honest. I haven't really tried much of their menu offerings because I found their pizza. I get it, pizza is a touchy subject among everyone that eats pizza. Here is my rationale... throughout most of my adult life, my job had me in Europe and a bunch of that time was in Italy, where pizza was invented. Of course I came to love pizzas in Italy. Back home in America, I see the debates of NY-style, vs. Chicago-style vs. Detroit-style and what is the best. I'm not going to call CHC's pizza Italian-style because it's Italian, and Italians invented pizza. So this is pizza. Period. But, in my opinion, it's the best pizza that in the county, hands down. I've promised myself that the next time I eat lunch or dinner there that I would try something else. New Year's resolutions are promises to myself too, and anyone that knows me know how those have worked out. But eventually, I'll pick something else off the menu. I'm certain that it'll be fantastic, but I'll update this review when that happens. Please don't hold your breath though, the pizza is that good. read more

YUM. Standard diner-like fare with a small town feel. My husband and I hope to become regulars but in the meantime enjoyed seeing the staff and customers interact like long time friends. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I love how crispy their scrapple is on the outside and soft on the inside. Some places it's too oily/mushy so that alone will keep me coming back here. Sure, the four star rating is based on one visit and one meal: breakfast. But may I suggest that breakfast is probably the hardest meal of the day to get just right? And Courthouse Café does it right here (although they're also open for lunch, and have an extensive menu for both). Situated on the busiest intersection of Spotsylvania, VA, Courthouse Café probably does a *booming* lunchtime business by -- who else? -- Courthouse employees. At breakfast, however, we had the place almost to ourselves. The interior is totally outdated and classic small-town diner-y (in other words: cheesy but charming), but spic 'n' span. Service was on-point, too. Our waitress didn't miss a beat, our coffee cups never emptied, and she was friendly and courteous. My veggie omelet was cooked wonderfully well: a billowy egg exterior enveloping crisp green peppers, tasty, tender tomatoes, al denté, savory onions, fresh, sautéed mushrooms, and melty cheddar cheese. Husband's scrambled eggs were fluffy and flavorful, and the bacon -- the star of the entire breakfast show -- was thick-cut, lean, and cooked to a crisp perfection. The accompanying biscuit was dense yet pillowy, subtly tangy from baking powder. And the home fries were clearly homemade, thinly sliced, and grilled golden. For two entrées and two coffees, our total bill came to $17. We kept chucking at each other across the formica booth because at home in DC, the same breakfast would have run us 30 bucks. It felt like highway robbery to eat so well for so cheap...so we left a ludricously large tip for our hard-working waitress and felt like we'd paid a proper charge. This is a true, classic diner! There are not many real ones left (that are not big chains). It is clean and well maintained. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is as well. Their home made chili is the best. I also like their country steak and potatoes. Their salt fish is great! Their bacon is great as well. The staff are caring and will joke with you, and in a matter of time, they know you by name. Several customers know each other by name, and like to greet you as you come in which is a huge plus. It has a small town feel, and even though the town is growing all around them and threatens to take away that small town feel, I think they are there to stay! read more

While you can tell from the inside of the restaurant that they're a tight-knit family and probably have a good amount of loyal, local customers. I do not plan on coming back. The service was not the friendliest. Love this little restaurant. And I mean little. It must only sit about 30 people. The waitresses were very sweet. From what I could tell, it was all women working here. Came with my mom for a late breakfast. We both got our coffee and water of course. I ordered pancakes with bacon and some French toast. Both very delicious! Was happy with both meals. My mom ordered onion rings and a grilled cheese which she also liked. The customer was great though toward the end it was hard to get a waitress even though it wasn't very busy. We had brunch with friends a little while back and it was great, but when we went back this weekend we were disappointed to learn that the quality of the food and the speed of service has gone down tremendously. We waited 45 minutes in a half empty restaurant for a greasy, underseasoned brunch. The waitresses were polite, but spent most of their time waiting at the service window on a kitchen that couldn't seem to get more than one meal out every 10 minutes.
