This place is perfect if you want food poisoning and bad service! The sausage gravy had the whole table questioning whether it was ham or sausage. After waiting about 10 minutes or better for any server to pass by I decided to just walk into the back myself. I wanted to see what the mystery meat was. They offered to wake me up a new plate, not for free I might add because in the end they charged me for my side of potatoes. which I didn't even eat. Have waited 45 minutes to be served our food and it isn't even busy at all. Have been here probably 10-15x in my life , have never been seated upon arrival until today . Then we ordered and I mentioned I was shocked it was only half full on a Saturday at 10 am and here it is 10:55 and we still have no food . Should bacon and eggs take 1 hour to cook? Is it just me or is everybody paying $40^ for a decent breakfast now days? I admit I ordered one of their homemade cinnamon rolls TO GO. It hit the table a little hard in its foil package. Standard American breakfast and baked goods. Very popular on Sunday's, avoid unless you like crowds, slow service and a 30-45 min wait for a table. The coffee wasn't too bad and the orange juice was fresh. I just get the basics, eggs, bacon, toast, country potatoes. No big deal. I still prefer Deja Vu's. I wish I had photographed our food to share with you. I had the sour dough blueberry pancakes, and hubby had the chicken fried steak. I've never had sour dough pancakes before but my lord they were delicious! They came with a lemon powdered sugar sauce, an egg and a sausage patty. The price was more than the economy breakfast houses but you get what you paid for and if you're even just the slightest bit of a foodie you NEED to try this spot! Breakfast and lunche houuse only. Not open for dinner. Customer service was great, much better than most of the places we've tried in the 2 years we've been in Redding. Ambience was quaint and interesting to look at. Wow, some people can be seriously harsh. So here is my thoughts on breakfast places. I'm a great cook. You better be able to cook me an equal meal to what I can make when I am doing the minimum, which is a standard bacon and egg breakfast, side of potatoes and toast. If you can't get that right, get out of the restaurant business. I was set on testing that concept, but ordered the build a omelette instead, it looked good. Bacon, sausage, bell, onion and tomatoes. Yum. When she delivered it, I joked that the rest of my party will be joining me to eat this. The omelette was huge, fresh and everything it should be---I like the fact it is without fanfare outside, it's the inside that counts and that was very good. Toast was cooked right, coffee was good, hash browns were brown. That is what a breakfast is supposed to be. Accomplished, staff was very nice, I will be back when I'm in town. read more

My sister and nieces decided to go here for brunch today. We walked in, a party of 4 and a toddler and got our name down by the host who was the only friendly welcoming person in there. The whole place didn't even smell of food it smelled like a dirty dish towel, not a great combo with the redding heat. If the AC was on you wouldn't even know. Another party of two came in after us and was seated in a recently "cleaned" off booth before us that would have fit my party just fine. When we finally got seated the table was sticky, dirty and the young lady that took our drink order attempted to walk away quickly almost missing my sister drink order if it wasn't for me speaking up. She came back delivering the kids beverages informing us that our server was making our lattes. (Here I thought she was our server) we sat for about 15 minutes before a lady arrived asking for our order. Didn't ask if we had questions and didn't even ask if we were ready. She was not kid friendly at all. I had to quickly ask for waters since we hadn't received our lattes yet. when she dropped those off I asked if she happened to have any straws on her (for HER convenience to be kind) and she said yes. Reaches into her apron and says "so would you like one or...?" Which I thought was extremely rude. I said yes please. She also commented on my nieces shy and quiet demeanor which wasn't in a friendly or joking manner whatsoever. Finally our food was delivered. Our lattes were not delivered yet so I informed her we hadn't received them yet and she responded with "oh she didn't tell me you ordered them". We all began digging into our food when my sisters omelet was not up to par. Her whole plate was cold and on the inside it seemed as if the shredded cheese was pulled straight from the fridge and stuffed into her omelet. It was as off the egg was full cooked and toppings were added and folded in cold then plated. We weren't checked on through the experience and the check was just dropped off. The server told us we would only be charged for single shot lattes rather than doubles since it was delayed. We weren't offered a box or anything. The dynamic of this whole place was disorganized, unwelcoming and dirty. As a person in the industry I can understand and let some things go go on a busy Saturday, but this whole experience was disappointing. If I could give zero stars I would. I hope the health department visits them really soon and helps them out! read more

When you first open the door the smells of fresh brewed coffee and baked bread hit you. The hustle and bustle of servers running around and the many customers waiting to be served is done with such precision it's amazing. Now the FOOD....I've only done their breakfast...and everything on the menu is cooked to order and always hits my table hot, seasoned perfect and just darn incredible! Bacon is always crispy, potatoes and hash browns crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Fruit always sweet and all bread to die for! Now...if you are in a rush to get served, eat and flash out...this isn't the place for you. It takes time...relax..enjoy your table mate and chat with the people around you. Then...enjoy your meal. I don't know about Amazing. The food is far from amazing. Let's start with the positive. Staff is nice and good. Place is clean. Now for the food. NOOOOO the food is not great it's not amazing. It would be amazing if you had just did 10 years in prison and got out and this was your 1st meal you had on the outs. If you want breakfast you're better off going to one of the chain spots like IHOP or Black Bear. I can't say anything positive about the food. It's not very good. I went with my family and spent over $70 for for our food. Their employee wanted to teach me a lesson for looking at my phone while we went to check out. A family member texted me so I looked down at my phone and the baker took the next person in line and her response to me when I pointed out I was the next person in line is that I looked at my phone and I look too busy to check out. She never acknowledged I was there in the first place. Not to mention the person who is in front of me was in a walker and there was a pile of food left on the floor that someone had swept and not picked up that she almost slipped on and I helped her. I went here with a few friends for brunch and it exceeded my expectations. The decor is homey and not very updated, but I was there for the food so I didn't mind. The staff is pleasant and efficient and we were well taken care of. I ordered both the famous cinnamon bun and the California omelet. To be honest, the cinnamon bun was good, but not spectacular (and not as big as I had expected - I finished the whole thing, although I have a very big appetite). But it was warm and gooey, and the dough was well made. As for my California omelet, it was excellent. Very cheesy and tasty, and filled with bacon. And the hash browns were amazing as well. It also comes with a side of toast (I ordered the 10 grain); what can I say - it was toast. But the butter was good. All in all, I'd definitely go back for the omelet and hash browns alone. We love Country Kitchen. Tia is our favorite waitress but they are all great! All of their baked goods are delicious and super fresh from their bakery. If you're a fan of traditional eggs Benedict I wouldn't recommend theirs. Their hollandaise sauce is more like chicken based gravy. Went their today and had the country omelet, the gravy wasn't very good but everything else was spot on. Gravy was salty and it didn't seem like the manager liked the feedback that it was too salty. We love this place and will continue to go back, hopefully the new manager will warm up to a little feedback. read more

Synopsis: Mediocre at best. If you have a high tolerance for cramped seating, scarce parking, poor service, and overpriced fare, this is your place. Full review: Have visited Country Kitchen several times now and it's just marginal at best. Every single time we have visited there has been an issue: Ordered drinks never come, requested condiments are MIA, and cold fries were replaced a full 10 minutes after the meal was over (They actually brought the replacement fries WITH the bill and they were cold too!), and being served something completely different than what I ordered. There is a very small area where you are expected to wait to be seated. God help you if another group comes in at the same time. There is a very large seating area to the right passed the register but the time we sat there for elbow room, the waitress forgot we were there. Our reward for fighting parking, being trampled in the entry, having our server forget we were even there, and mediocre food was a bill for nearly $28 for breakfast! No thank you. Country Kitchen is a popular local spot but I can't for the life of me figure why. If the food was knock-your-socks-off fantastic, none of the rest would matter. Unfortunately, it is not. While the dining area is technically wheelchair accessible, it is somewhat cramped and difficult to negotiate on the left side. There is plenty of room to the right once you squeeze through the awkward register set up especially if anyone is standing there waiting to pay. read more

We ate there a few years ago and I remember it being just as bad. I should've known better. 30 minutes later when your stomach is bubbling and the pressure is on you know you've had bad food having to run to the bathroom... We should've sent the food back and left. They gave our group table away that was reserved a week in advance even though we were on time. So we all had to wait crunched in the none existing waiting area for 15 minutes. Then put us crammed in a corner with make shift tables set up. Barley fit everyone at the tables they gave us, we were practically sitting in each other's laps. This was my first & last time to eat at the Country Kitchen. My first impression was that it's in terrible need of a face lift. The tables, chairs, benches & floors are in terrible shape & in need of replacing. Our waitress was very pleasant & offered house coffee or dark roast, which I thought was nice, so I was hopeful that the appearance was deceiving. We went here for an early lunch & ordered a french dip & Seawich. It was nice that we had some options on sides. French fries, salad, coleslaw, soup, potato salad, etc We opted for coleslaw & salad. I didn't try my friends Seawich, which is described as a shrimp, cheese, tomato & avocado sandwich. She couldn't tell if the orange stuff was carrots or cheese because it was tasteless & there were hardly any shrimp, she also said the coleslaw tasted old & bland. I had the french dip & side salad. The au jus sauce tasted like salty water, no beefy taste at all & the sandwich, it just lacked any flavor. The beef was dried up, the bottom of the roll was greasy, not enough onions & every once in a while I would get a taste of the swiss cheese. I found myself adding salt to the sandwich, just to see if I could taste it. Blech. The side salad was fine, nothing great, lettuce, onion, croutons, tomato, mushrooms, etc. Salad dressing tasted right out of a bottle. Sad thing is, the bill with tax & tip was $27 WAY too much for what we had & the quality of it. No wonder the chain restaurants do so well in Redding. For $6.95 I can have all the soup, salad & bread sticks I want at Olive Garden & it's good! read more

So Very disappointing ...so we were there on Sat 10amish 2/14/2014 The service was very slow it was beyond acceptable (15mins for ice tea and cappuccino , and then another 40min wait for a poor basic breakfasts for two people ), the waitress was rarely there, the food was less than acceptable. I ordered a Waffle combo which was so cold the room temp butter was not even melting, and there was no sausage or the second egg i added to order, I sent back and was not willing another 45mins for new plate so all I wanted ted was two eggs/sausage /hash-browns. Tic Toc and 7mins later I get two eggs and two sausage and no hash-browns...sigh OMG really. So we asked to have manager over and no one ever showed up. It is amazing that the banner "Voted Best In Redding" must be very out of date. I get when diners are busy but this was as much about the cooks on the line not performing as much as the front of house services staff not being aware of how long customers are waiting. We love dinners, especially for breakfast and though we are Not locals, our greenback dollars are the same, and this was the worst breakfast I have ever been served in years. read more

Bad experience. We arrived hungry after unloading our houseboat, happy to be seated right away. After a few minutes someone came to get our drink order, but then it seemed we could not get anyone to come and take our order. A different waitress finally came after about 20 minutes or so to take our order. She mentioned they were having a bit of a delay in the kitchen (this is on a Sunday with a full restaurant). Another 30 minutes went by and we started noticing other tables getting food who came in after us, so my husband went to speak to a manager who apologized but didn't seem like there was much she could do except finally bringing us a cinnamon roll on the house. Another family next to us were upset, their kid screaming from hunger. When the food finally arrived it looked a bit sloppy. Potatoes were undercooked, bacon overcooked, eggs rubbery. Management is definitely not on top of things to make sure people are fed in order. If they kitchen staff is running that badly...it's time for some changes. read more

I have stayed away from Country Kitchen for awhile, primarily because of the service...How many times should I have to get up to get my own coffee refill? My latest trip in was the icing on the cake. It went like this: Me: I'll have the Eggs Benedict Server: How do you want your eggs cooked? Me: I ordered the Eggs Benedict, don't they automatically come poached? Server: No, lot of people say that. Me: Well...I had them here last week and the server didnt ask how I wanted the eggs cooked, poached please The eggs came out over medium. perhaps a new cook that doesn't know how to poach an egg? The Country Kitchen is the only place I will go for breakfast when I am in Redding. I have a special diet, and the staff is always more than accommodating (and super nice!!). I have never had a problem with my complicated order getting messed up. The food is fresh and flavorful and you can't find a cleaner place in town. It can get crowded on a weekend morning, but I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes. Besides, I wouldn't want to go to a place that isn't busy...you can tell how much the locals like it by how many are there! If you haven't been there, you should definitely check it out! read more

I have been coming here for years and have enjoyed many a good breakfast. I was craving a ham steak and eggs all I saw on the menu was Deli sliced ham and eggs. I asked the waitress if I could get a ham steak she said of course. So that's what I ordered but instead received a piece of ham sliced thinner than the deli, cooked to the consistency of cardboard. So a couple of eggs hash browns and a poor excuse for a piece of ham 16 bucks I won't do that again. I would have told someone there about my displeasure, but no one ever asked if everything was okay or if I needed anything else. They weren't very busy, they just didn't seem to care. so I paid the bill and left. read more

There was a time I was driving between LA and Seattle just about every six weeks. Redding was my usual overnight stop on the drive, because it's roughly halfway between the two cities. I can't remember now just how I found out about Country Kitchen -- it's out of the way of the usual I-5 rush -- but I'm glad I did. I tended to have their linguica sausage omelette, which reminded me of being a kid in Massachusetts, visiting Fall River. Great stuff, and a very homey place. read more
