Doesn't get much better! Love the name of the place considering it is my last name, but we're not of any relation that I know of ... Well on to the food, everyone in my family loves this place we always get the family meal with an additional pound of pork to save for later. No one goes hungry ! The family meal includes 6 buns, 1 lb of either pork, chix,or beef, pint of coleslaw and a pint of baked beans. They are darn near famous for their hotslaw and can't walk out the door w/o a pint of it.... This place has been one of my absolute favorites for as long as I can remember .... My son and I stopped by here on a whim to eat! Big mistake! Worst bbq hands down I've eaten in years! We each ordered a pork bbq sandwich w baked beans and slaw. Well I start with the sandwich. Pork u would assume would be pulled pork right? Nope!!! Sliced thin like shaved hame style! Wtf! This was a first. So thin u could almost see through it. I could not detect any smoke flavor at all and on a small bun. Really!!!! Now the baked beans! Worst I've ever had. Pork n beans w some chili seasoning in them! No bbq sauce or anything in them! Terrible!!! I dumped a bunch of bbq sauce in them just to be eatable! The slaw was ground to point of mush and had very little taste! Horrible again! I do t know what kinda bbq the people ya e been eating around there to think this was good but it had to be bad. Hands down, the nastiest BBQ I have ever had. I ordered two Couch Potatoes to go: they were to have butter, sour cream, bacon plus your choice of meat. When I opened them to eat, they were very dry. The meat (I ordered one potato with pork and another with brisket), both the pork and brisket, were very dry and flavorless. Worst $15 I've spent in a while. Definitely won't repeat the mistake of going back to Couch's. read more

Couch's is awesome. It is not like any other Bbq out there. It is sliced pork. The sandwiches have been served the same way since 1946. Lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, slices Bbq pork and hot slaw. If you love hot food get it extra hot. The chicken sandwich is awesome amazing. Multiple generations have run this establishment and keep getting it right. Try the pie. read more

Decided to give this place another try. Our server was super sweet but failed to explain some things. His friendly demeanor is the only reason we give it 2 stars. The food was disgusting. Couch's Barbecue restaurant is one of those hidden gems, located in an out of the way spot that has been family run for many years. The building is nothing fancy at all, but it is a very comfortable and clean dining environment. These guys know barbecue and have been smoking pork, beef, and chicken on site their own way for as long as I can remember. They have a tangy "signature" sauce which is absolutely delicious and a "sweet" sauce that is also very popular. The menu also includes a full range of burgers, sandwiches, and dinner plates. They offer a great selection of pies and the banana pudding is the best around this city. Visited recently on. Friday evening for some smoked ribs and sliced pork. The pork plate included slaw, baked beans, and crinkle fries with a roll. The rib plate included baked beans and crinkle fires, with a roll. Several choices for sides are available. This has always been a great place for smoky flavored barbecue and this meal was absolutely second to none in the Chattanooga area. Two people dined on some great barbecue with a couple of iced teas for about $25. The service is always good and locals are always running into friends and family at Couch's Barbecue. I started going to couch's in 1991 and my family loves the bbq pork. We took our kids here the whole time they were growing up and now they take their families here. We love the sliced pork. It does not come with sauce and really does not need it. They have great hot slaw that my husband has on his sandwich and their regular slaw is my favorite. If you eat here then you will see the sandwiches come with lettuce and tomato. We never get it this way we get coleslaw and hot slaw. Their beef is good too, we just like the pork better. read more

It's a run of the mill bbq joint. Great prices and friendly staff but mid-grade food at best. The green beans and baked must be strait out of the can, the coleslaw is par (it's lightly vinegar base), the fried okra was strait out of a freezer bag, and couldn't tell the difference in taste between the beef and perk bbq. This is my favorite place for a BBQ pork sandwich. My family has been eating at Couch's since I was a little kid. I believe they use pork loin, smoked, and shaved. The regular sandwich comes with hot slaw, lettuce and tomato. They provide two choices of sauce, on the side. You can request regular slaw in place of the hot slaw. The pork is excellent. Tender, moist, and flavorful. Believe me. I've been a vegetarian for 7 years. I've cheated, and eaten meat twice. Both times, it was a sandwich at Couch's. read more

I feel bad writing this review but I don't want other people who haven't been there to go. Obviously the locals here love it so the business will thrive but if you've never been I want to save you from a bad experience. My husband had to work late so he wanted me to bring him dinner so we could spend some time together. We were going to eat in his truck and have a little nice hour together so I went to a new place to bring him a surprise and I felt awful for the terrible food I brought :( The chicken was the driest I've ever had in my life! It was really bad. I opened the bbq sauce to try to drench it in and the container barely had a quarter in it, I was worried as to whether it was never properly filled or was someone's left over The coleslaw looked like it went through the blender and the buns they gave for my husbands chicken were the cheap dinner rolls & my French fries...oh the worst! This place is a joke. Sad, because we were in town all week for a softball tourney less than a mile from here. 1st of 3 people to walk in and sit down to order...3rd to be waited on. Mayo, lettuce and tomato on a bbq sandwich? I asked for it with just the slaw on it, but it came with the other set up. I found out because I was going to putt bbq sauce on myself and just throw the lettuce and tomato off. If I want a barbecue sandwich, this is my goto place for it. Their meat isn't pulled but sliced really thin. You can pick from chicken,beef,or pork. I always get the chicken. Crinkle cut fries is always a must. You can still get you a bottle coke or Dr Pepper just like the old days. A lot of locals and older folks come here since they know it is that good. read more

I have been coming to Couch's since I was a young boy. I keep coming back because they have the best BBQ sandwich around.

We had Couch's BBQ as take out. One of there dinner feast with all the fixings. We was positive impressed and we ate from it for a couple of days. The portion was just amazing for our family. I can just advise everybody to try it! I will go again. read more

As my wife said, as you eat here you might wonder "if Arby's did bbq, this is what you would get". That being said, the pork we got was thinly sliced and relatively tasteless. The two sauces offered were ok. The buns looked like they just came from Bi-Lo. That being said, the place was busy so there must be a contingent who really like the place but of the few bbq places in the area, this is so far on the bottom of my list. Water was a little funky tasting too which is always a turn-off. Soft drink appear to be glass bottled Coca-Cola products though we didn't order any. On the pro-side, service is good and really the only thing making this two stars, the cost is low. If I do return, I will be not be ordering off the bbq side of the menu. read more

A totally different take on the usual "Pulled Pork", which was a pleasant surprise. The meat is more like it is sliced, then chopped. It is also much leaner, which would make you think, oh no- there goes the flavor, but it's not so at all! The place is an obvious institution once you step in the door, and the Established 1946 on the sign proves it. A BBQ joint that is even 'pretty good' doesn't make it 2-3 years in Chattanooga, so that says something in itself. As if the fabulous barbecue wasn't enough, there are the pies..... Oh my God there are the pies. They are as good as good pie gets, plain and simply put. Chocolate pie lovers will be in heaven. I haven't had that caliber of chocolate pie since my Aunt Wink died almost 13 years ago. The buttermilk pie is as good as you will put a fork to as well. Unique thin sliced BBQ smoked over a hickory fire is so so good! This place was featured as one of Southern Living Magazine's top 50 barbecue places in the South. I ordered the pork and got the chicken. That is how my meal started. The food was bland and uninspired. The only thing keeping this place in business is it's nostalgic draw that it seems to have on the locals. If you uprooted this restaurant and put it anywhere else as a new place to eat it wouldn't survive the year. Nothing is made on site it seems, and the side options were limited. Ordered BBQ sandwiches 2 pork and 1 beef. Pork was extremely dry. The sauce was bitter and tasted old. Bun was hard as a brick and burnt. French fries were still frozen inside and freezer burnt and they charged $1.50 for a 8oz drink. This place should shut down. Definitely not worth stopping for to get a bite to eat.
