Front Entrance and BBQ

This is one of the first BBQ joints I visited when I moved to the area and I have been craving it ever since. I live further away now, but was in the area last night and decided to stop in again. Fat Boy's is very unique and is a must try in the greater Chattanooga area (Ooltewah). From the outside and inside of the diner to the awesome food, you don't want to miss this place! The number one item I have been craving since I first ate here was their Mac & Cheese ! It is AMAZING and exactly what you are asking for when you think of ultimate comfort food. YUM!!!! I also want to mention for my Vegan and Vegetarian friends they have an extensive menu. Last night I had a cheeseburger and onion rings - Both were perfect! I loved the bun they used that stayed together even with my extra pickles. And the onion rings were still crispy and delicious despite my 20 min commute home! Now I know why I couldn't stop thinking about this place. Next time I won't wait a year to go there again!

PARKING - Plenty of parking in various spots ATMOSPHERE - The place is got a nice vibe to it, not a chain and not commercial. Very clean and free refills, to-go boxes easily obtained without having to ask. Plenty of sauces to choose. The drink station is the lowest height wise I have ever seen. My 6'1 son had a little trouble but this short yankee had no complaints. STAFF - The person working the register was very polite and juggling a lot of people in line and orders for pick up. Never seemed stressed and patient. The fact they were handling the rush and keeping the place clean was not unnoticed. FOOD - The food was actually really good. There are not many places we drive an hour to try and want to return again. The fries were perfect and the onion rings had the best taste and batter that I had in a long time. The sauces were pretty good also. I really love they give you 2 patties when you order a burger and it is filling. The brisket tacos were really good however wasn't please with the sad cilantro or whatever the green stuff was. It appeared stale and discolored in sections. We picked that off. The to go cups are massive and we loved that! I would like them to add a brisket burger blend and not brisket on top of the patty. PRICE - The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. THE GOOD - The smell going in to the restaurant was amazing - The food taste really good, plenty of flavor - Onion rings were a highlight NOT SO GOOD -Green cilantro as seen in picks was pretty sad (not a deal breaker) Would offer a 4.5 star but no option on yelp.

Philly Steak Eggrolls

2nd time I've tried this place! I want to like it so much but it's SO bland and greasy as heck every time. I couldn't finish one whole egg roll, was so greasy it was making my stomach turn and zero flavor. To top it off service is rough- had to walk through cigarettes to get inside and then crowd came in and took our order without washing hands. Not a lot of awareness of their menu. Cute in here though

The best they could do in this day and age. Come on.

Pretty mediocre food, but to be closed from before Sunday 7/21 and then leave on all website that you're open, disregard maybe I don't know putting a voicemail system up saying you're closed or anything a remotely good business would do is pretty ridiculous and honestly shows exactly the scene you see coming into this place. Overweight diabetes ridden nobody's in a converted house "restaurant" hahaha they have one good item on the menu and question me everytime I order it to "try something new" some of us aren't obese and care about our weight. If they offer a salad I'm sure the base is tater tots. Literal food exact example of the worst troglodytes in this area. Enjoy!

Deep Fried Oreos

We stopped here in between some Softball games. Other food ordered not pictured but we were a party of six. Ordered and sat right down Brisket tacos and Baked Potato was ordered and was really good Oreos were delicious with a powdered sugar frosting Burrito is big enough to feed two.

**THE BEST** Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls. Order these. You will not regret it.

BEST FOOD IN CHATTANOOGA! I'm on my Spring Break, Tennessee Roadtrip. Angels descended from heaven and pointed me toward Fat Boy's. This place is perfect for fat boys like me. They've got big portions at reasonable prices. All fat guys know what I'm talking about. Everyone says they have sizable portions, but then 2 entrees later, you walk away hungry. This place is the real deal, hog heaven, hungry-hungry hippo's dream come true. It has a super down home vibe. It feels a lot like a food truck. Tons of outdoor, picnic table seating and plenty of parking. The inside is also available, a little small, so beware of crowds during inclement weather! My two buddies and all all ordered different dishes. We ordered the Brisket Burger, Fay Boy Burrito, fish sandwich and philly cheese steak egrolls. The french fries were some of the best I've ever had. Really well salted and seasoned. Consistency of shoestring fries. They were on point. **TRY THE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK EGGROLLS** You will not regret it. Easily the best part of the meal and filling. $6 for 3 eggrolls. It was basically just meat and cheese stuffed into an egg roll. Amazing. It was so filling, you could eat 3 of those eggrolls as a meal and be content. The burger I had was good, but the brisket lacked a little flavor. The burger had a nice char and was very flavorful. The brisket was decent, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Not much flavor and lots of fat. The bun slid apart when I tried to eat it because it was so greasy, which I loved! My brother got the fat boy burrito which was FIRE. If I lived nearby, that would be one of my regular orders. The fish sandwich was great. Real cod, not processed garbage fish. Would recommend both of those. Since I've been in Tennessee, this is my second favorite place. Only thing better was Peg Leg Porker in Nashville. Definitely give this place a look if you drop in.

Double Dbl Bacon Cheeseburger not just big but amazing taste.

Ordered the Smokehouse burger for my wife and Double Bacon Cheeseburger for myself and fried pickles to split. The portion of the pickles was huge as well as the burgers obviously. Amy (she's awesome) waved me down and gave me More Fried Pickles because they made too much. I'm on the couch in a blissful meat coma.

The South has taught me about many things, one of them being BBQ. It's just better down there. Fat Boys is a food truck, maybe it's a restaurant, I'm not sure, but we ate it in the setting sun on their wood deck in the back and that was the place to be. This was maybe the best pulled pork I've ever had. Saucy as all get out but not in a way that it covered up the flavor of the meat. It was shredded, but not in that way where the pork congeals into one sad lump. I mean this was perfect, I didn't even use the bun, I think at one point I was going at it with my fingers. And the onion rings have this amazing texture, the grease and oil kinda caramelizing them in places so the artery clogging goodness explodes in your mouth with each bite. The beans are a massive portion, and the cold slaw offers the one crisp, "light" break on the plate to give you the illusion of a balanced meal. Get in on this, you want this.

Now, the place had more noise than a family reunion after someone mentions politics--two teenage softball teams carrying on, laughing, living large. Hard to fault that. Better than silence so thick you can hear your own regrets. Food showed up quick, which is about all you can ask when you're hungry enough to consider eating the menu. And it was good--honest good. Not "tell your mama about it" good, but solid, dependable, "yep, I'd order that again" good. Prices didn't make you feel like you'd just financed somebody's boat, either. Beer was cold--like it ought to be, like it better be--and the waitress understood to be there exactly when we needed her and vanishing when we didn't. That's an art form. Now the atmosphere... well, it had all the charm of a place that once had big decorating plans and then decided, "Eh, this'll do." A little on the bare side. Felt like a Friday night that never quite got dressed up. But I'll tell you this--I'd go back. And that, right there, is about the highest praise you can give a place without writing a love letter to the chef.

So we arrive just about 15 minutes early but were immediately seated. It was a bit confusing about where the host stand is since there are two entrances... but no problem because the owner was at the bar to greet us. The customer service is top tier! The venue is beautiful! But the food ... left something to be desired. I ordered the pot roast based on recommendations from the waiter. He also recommended the greens over the green beans. I also added a side of mashed potatoes and fried corn. So first, the plate came out messy (see pic). It would have only taken a second to wipe off the edge of the plate. Then the pot was appeared shredded and covered in thyme and rosemary. Both over powered the meat. I'm wondering if I had the last piece and they covered things up with the extra seasoning from the bottom. My friend also ordered the pot roast and although hers was also chopped, she did not have as much thyme and rosemary- although she complained that it was too much. Next the greens tasted unseasoned and undercooked. The fried corn was not fried but were kernels of sweet corn in some type of cornstarch slurry - awful! The mashed potatoes are boxed but edible however the white gravy was not good. I missed on the menu that the gravy is white - it should be brown. Finally, we received a piece of cornbread- it was very dense but sweet. My friends liked it but I did not. My friends had a mix of feelings from "it was good" to "just ok but I won't take my left overs home." Needless to say I also did not take my left overs home. One saving grace about the meal was the fruit tea! It was delicious! I also ordered two chocolate covered strawberries for dessert and I wished I ordered more! Since it was four friends birthday- the singer (yes there was live music) called out their names and sang a rendition of "Happy Birthday". This same singer had the room up and dancing on several song! She did a wonderful job. Plus the restaurant provided a free dessert to each of the four birthday friends! They all enjoyed their desserts! So the verdict... the venue is beautiful and a vibe for a Saturday night but unfortunately I won't return for the good. There are much better spots for soul food at much cheaper price point!

What initially brought us in this day was that we saw their anniversary special advertised, the $5 Big Dad Special (a hard to beat deal, and side note, happy 22 years to Shane's Rib Shack!). There were no substitutions allowed, and since we wanted their delicious sides, we opted for their pork plate with fried okra and potato salad ($10). This plate was large enough for the two of us to share, and we happily did. Just as the first time the hubby had their catered BBQ, in-house did not disappoint either. Everything was delicious! Their ranch sauce was on point for the fried okra, too. Sweet tea was as desired, and the peach cobbler is perhaps the best peach cobbler we've enjoyed to date. Service was friendly, the facility was clean, and there's dog friendly patio seating available as well. Great first visit, and we see more Shane's Rib Shack in our futures.

Shane's hit the spot. I chose the pulled pork and it was a good portion. Quite moist and plenty of it, I did have to put a bit of the "original" sauce on their to get the real meat flavor out of it. With that, it was great. For sides, the cole slaw was great. Crisp and not wet with mayo, there were a few bigger pieces of cabbage. This isn't fine chopped slaw and it isn't thin floss. There's some bit to this. The green beans had a great flavor but were beyond mushy. No crispness to them at all, I think perhaps these had been cooked/heated some time earlier in the day. Overall, a good meal at a good price point. [Review 18847 overall - 370 in Tennessee - 2370 of 2022.]

The taproom "beertender" seemed to be fairly knowledgeable regarding the various offerings - there's also a convenient list highlighting the different beers with style notes. We sat at the bar and were able to bring in some food from the nearby restaurants (I grabbed some wings at the nearby Marthie Ann's which were excellent). To drink I tried Hoptown's own Orange Mango Wheat - a somewhat basic wheat beer with hings of sweet tangerine and mango - nothing special. I had a Maine Brewing "Lunch" with the wings which is always a winner - it's an exceptional New England IPA. Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.
