This place is brand new; it's a converted blockbuster that just opened Mid-Dec 2011. The ambiance inside is nice, and the decor is good. It certainly feels more spacious than the old blockbuster. That said the service is terrible. The wait staff is comprised of about 20 high school aged kids who don't appear to have any prior server experience. As a result our expirence was fairly bad, but this is likely to change once the staff gets some time to learn the ropes. The food was mediocre, nothing to write home about. It's about like a Chilies or Applebees, with a few more southern comfort type foods. I had the fish and chips, and the wife had steak and shrimp. I will say our server was a bit awkward. Maybe you can chalk it up to TABC training, but our server cut me off after three beers. He said "you don't look intoxicated but I can't serve you anymore". I'm a "seasoned professional" so I was a bit shocked when that happened. Of course we didn't make a scene about it, just paid and left. That said, it made the dinner very awkward, and was embarrassing to happen in public like that. I'm not sure why we go to this place. Sometimes we just wind up in that area and find ourselves sitting in Cotton Patch. The food is consistently decent. The prices are just a tad higher than what I'd LIKE to pay for this environment and food, but is that realistic? The tortilla soup was good for a chain, not traditional, but flavorful. Cheese fries were as to be expected. Came out hot and crispy. How many bad things can you really say about cheese and bacon covered French fries? I mean, if you're into that sort of thing. I can definitely eat........ and I feel it is a mistake to get the full order. Pictured is the half order which was mooorrree than enough for P & me. Chicken tenders were tasty. Mashed potatoes and broc/cheese/rice look like they taste. I don't remember which tacos P got, which is really, really unhelpful, but here they are pictured and he said they were good. All in all, decent experience when you want to shop at that HEB plus but don't want to go in starving. Be careful or you'll get the waiter that LITERALLY eats fries from off your plate. Seriously. Five star reviews are relative. When I say "As good as it gets," I'm usually comparing apples with apples. Thus, a 5 star burger joint isn't the same thing as a 5 star prime steakhouse. Thus, having issued the disclaimer, Cotton Patch Cafe is as good as it gets for home-cooking/Texas country food. Yep, it's a chain, albeit from small town Texas. However, they know how to feed native Texans. Large chicken fried steaks with plenty of gravy (and special kudos to our server Zach, who offered more gravy without even asking), plentiful fried sides, and virtually never-ending iced tea. The chicken fried steak was excellent as were my sides (mac and cheese along with fries). The iced tea was served cold and kept filled. I'd also recommend the queso and salsa. They tasted much more like homemade appetizers than generic Tex-Mex from a can. Combine the good food with the excellent service and you have a winning combination of Texas food and hospitality that I will be coming back for! read more

Dined here last night for the first time. After reading the mixed reviews my expectations were not high. I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy layout as the bar area was separate from the dining room. Our waitress Lanessa was awesome and remembered all our requests while injecting humor throughout our interactions. All our meals came out of the kitchen hot and how we wanted. Two of us ordered the chicken fried chicken which consisted of a large breast of all white, juicy chicken with just enough batter. Sorry to see such mixed reviews on this place -- our visit was fantastic. We just moved to the neighborhood and are so happy to have found this place -- we'll be back for more! Our server, Shauna, was terrific -- friendly, cheery, attentive enough without hovering. First... the bread. OMG!!! Light and fluffy on the inside, just a hint of crispy/flaky on the outside. Perfection. Then we had fried mushrooms -- absolutely the best I've ever had. They were piping hot, and the batter they're fried in made them just right -- not too heavy, not greasy at all. Perfection. My wife and my son both had chicken fried steak. We love the fact that they have a reduced portion available. The CFS was excellent -- tender, flavorful, perfectly breaded. The mashed potatoes and gravy were also terrific. My mother had the strawberry pecan salad with chicken and loved it. It seemed like they toasted the pecans or something to bring out their flavor. The chicken was well-seasoned and tender, and the greens were very fresh and crisp. I had the Grilled Cajun Duo -- blackened catfish and grilled shrimp. Fantastic. Amazing. Perfection. Spicy, but not ridiculously so. Cooked just right. And the vegetables with it were just right. And then dessert...Praline Pecan Bread Pudding -- OMG!!! This was like the best sticky bun you ever had, but even softer and gooier. Incredible. And my son loved th fresh banana pudding. The manager came by our table at the end of dinner to ask how everything was, and we visited with him for a few minutes about the history of the restaurant and more -- very friendly. Our visit basically felt like all my best memories of Bennigan's, Black Eyed Pea, Applebee's and TGI Friday's all rolled up into one. I expect we'll be regular customers. Tonight, my husband, daughter, and I went to Cotton Patch. It wasn't our first time, but just a whimsical thing. We wanted a quick and easy family dinner at a place that was kid friendly. The restaurant had a fair amount of people in it, but for once, there wasn't a wait, which was a huge plus since my daughter is about to turn 2 and not exactly the most patient person alive. Our waiter's name was Gary and I liked him instantly - he was energetic, friendly, attentive to all 3 of us, and made good suggestions. Since I am on a soft food diet due to a recent surgery, I couldn't really have anything on the menu - including the soup. We asked Gary if we could have one of the soups blended, we doubted it, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Lo and Behold, we could. In fact, he brought us a sample of how the soup in question comes regularly so I could see if it would work, if not, he would blend it. It didn't work due to the bacon bits that needed to be chewed and the potato chunks, so he blended it for me. Additionally, I had the garlic mashed potatoes. The soup was so good, but the mashed potatoes were meh...I couldn't taste the garlic at all and they were kind of dry. Not the end of the world, I loved the soup and that made up for it. My daughter had her first hamburger, which she loved, and fries. My husband had the Cobb Salad, which he devoured and said was "too legit to quit". Even with my husband's beer, my daughters entree, 2 sides, and juice (which Gary poured into a cup for her since she couldn't drink it out of a straw from the juice box); and my soup (which Gary blended perfectly himself), the mashed potatoes, and my strawberry lemonade, I paid $33 before tip. All in all Cotton Patch is a pretty inexpensive, easy, and yummy place to dine - perfect for family dinners when you don't feel like cooking and want to get out of the house. This is one of our favorite places to eat when we are in this part of town. On the last visit I had chicken fried chicken that was fried brown and crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It was perfection! The other dishes I have tried were the steak, salmon,grilled chicken and chicken fried steak,that were all great also.. It tasted like burnt season salt and what little chicken was left in the tender was so dry it wasn't worth it. I should have asked for them to make another batch but I was trying to be nice and the waiter didn't seem to think it was a problem when she saw it... This review is long overdue. Since we tried the Cotton Patch Cafe a couple months ago we can't seem to stay away! I guess what kept us from eating here sooner was just not understanding what sort of food we could expect there. The outside of the restaurant made me think it would be a soup and sandwich place like Panera and although those options do appear on the menu, they have so much more. Some of our favorite things to order are the chicken and dumpling soup, the chicken tenders and the Cajun seafood duo. The prices are very reasonable for what you get (especially if you use the $5 off two entrees coupon from your mail) and although there have been a couple of exceptions, the service is friendly and thorough. read more

The chicken friend steak, chicken friend chicken, and chicken friend pork chop are all very delicious. The sides and other entrées, however, have been hit or miss. The banana pudding is good too, but make sure they giving you a teaspoon instead of a soup spoon because the soup spoon can't make it to the bottom of the glass they serve it in. read more

This used to be our go to restaurant. We ate there almost every week. They've gone down hill and we won't be back. They used to serve thick steaks and ask you to check to make sure it was cooked how you wanted it. Now they are super thin. They got rid of their pot roast dish. We went for their new special dish and they were out by 6p on Sunday. The carpets are always filthy with food from previous guests. The waiters basically ignore you after taking your order. Made a curbside pickup order online for 12pm today (8/15/20). It is now 2pm and I'm home. That was the only thing I went out for. I waited in the curbside line from 11:50 until 2pm. I don't live far and this was convenient. Every time I was asked my name, I gave it. I asked why it was taking so long. The only thing I was told is "I'm sorry." As I watched people getting their order and walking away after a 15 minute wait I tried asking questions but was met with "I don't know what's going on." I'm home now and without food. That is 2 hours of my Saturday and nothing to show for it but frustration. I can't even call them because the line is busy and has been since I first started trying to call at 1pm. WORST. SERVICE. EVER. This isn't even the first time its happened. I've had waits over an hour the last two times I went. I'm done with this place. read more

The place is near the grocery store we use frequently and every time we go we see a nice amount of people waiting outside to be seated. I've read the reviews and said hey why not give it a shot. As you step in you're greeted by friendly people and when its not crowded you're seated immediately. Within minutes of sitting our server took our drink order and let us know what the specials were for the day. Since I've become such a foodie, I am always looking for something unusual that I've never had. This place is for someone that enjoys home cooked meals that are known as comfort food. They have a nice selection to select from. I haven't had Chicken Fried Steak with mash in a long time so why not try it. The order was out within minutes and I must say the food tasted really good and the batter was thick that it was over powering the meal. The mash is home made and not from the box yay! The family has been to the Cotton Patch in Georgetown a couple of times and it was nothing to write home about so I wasn't in a hurry to visit this location, but I didn't avoid it either. Finally our time came when it was opportune to take that family for dinner. It was a Sunday evening and there was plenty of space for us, no waiting. Our waitress (I wish I could remember her name) was working her second shift but she was in good spirits, maybe she was just deliriously tired. At any rate, she did a great job the whole evening and we enjoyed her company. It is always a huge bonus when the waitperson treats our 8 year old like she is also a person with opinions about her dinner rather than looking at us to order for the kid. My order was blackened tilapia on rice pilaf. There were lots of options too. For example, I could have "skinny" veggies on the side or regular seasonal veggies. The difference being the amount of butter and herbs used in preparation. I truly appreciated not only having these options but that our waitress let us know about them. The meal was hot and delicious when it arrived. When two of the people at our table seemed less than happy about their meals, the waitress kept checking to see if they wanted something else. Not only did we have a good experience in the restaurant but we were also please with the menu, menu options, and the menu information available online. I went here with my wife and the atmosphere is very cozy and warm. Love the big booths they have. I had the chicken fried chicken and it may have been the best one I've ever had! Wow.... First time visiting and we could only laugh the service was sooooo bad. The first clue we should have run was when we walked in we stood at the hostess stand almost 10 minutes and noticed all the staff was in the back talking. After two of their staff debated where to seat us (in front of us) we were sat and they took our appetizer order & food. 20 minutes later another waitress came buy and apologized that somehow the first group didn't take our order down right. She took our order down again & brought us some drinks. Another 15 minutes passed and we asked about our appetizer... Which took a little while longer. Finished the appetizer and still no food at 45 minutes sitting there. They never came by to check on us or refill our water. Finally a really sweet waitress came by and noticed we looked like we were ready to go, so she asked what was wrong. We told her we gave up on our food and were ready to leave... It had been over an hour at this point. Our original waiter was nowhere in sight. They finally found our food and apologized and blamed it on the kitchen. (The place was empty..there were only 2 other tables with people)... They also claimed the waiter was new and the person training him was also new. Food was mediocre. The sweet waitress comped our meal and apologized for what happened.. I get having new employees, but it was horrible... They seemed absolutely clueless... On Sunday our church had this restaurant to cater our Christmas dinner. The first problem is the food was not ready at promised time. Secondly, they brought the food out in plastic containers instead of foil pans after it was told to the manager it would be served immediately at the church. The food was really cold, and the ham was not all the way done. Catered food that is going to be served immediately should not be packed in plastic containers cold! We had to hurry and find containers to put the food in to warm up as well as containers to serve it in. I suggest you all start serving your catered food in foil pans to keep the food hot for customers that will be serving it immediately. Well after a weekend packed adventure of Mexican food, we come here for a second visit and some variety. I think there would be something for everyone to choose from on the menu.. Service was top notch....We both lived outside of our comfort zone and went with something different. I had to go the route of Chicken Tortilla Soup, a cup that is...Was really good, came with a small plate of add on item, chip strips, cheese, pico, and some fresh cold avocado. Great Combo of Flavors. Of course we had to have Queso and Chips. The Queso stands out from anything you will find at a Mexican joint, and its good. Sometimes different is good!! Wife had the Shiner Fish and Chips...Hot, Crispy and fresh!!...Fries were seasoned well and there was enough on the plate to take some home. I had the Grilled Cajun Duo...I could go into detail, but browse the menu. All around mine was DeLish!!! Flavors melted together and I was very Satisfied...I had a baked potato as a side...It was salt crusted to start with, that was a win for me..Loaded with all the goodies...This place falls into a category of "The Safety Net"...A place you can go and get good food, good service for a fair price. Arrived and was seated to a booth with VERY WET seats. Asked to have the seat wiped down - done with a damp cloth. Asked her to get a dry towel. She did and we were able to sit. Ordered drinks and "fried mushrooms" We waited ... and waited. Almost 20 minutes later the mushrooms came. The negative was our food came before we were done with the appetizers. DRINKS from the bar was also a 20 minute wait. WE asked for water when we ordered our drinks ... finally came after our meal was served. Had to ask for bread couple times. Salads came with meal when we had asked for them before the main meal. Waitress was polite, and followed up on the food order. I think the confusion was in the kitchen. The food was good - but for a Thursday night (6:30 PM) we felt the service "bad". Because this is right down the street from where we live it is either Cotton Patch or Chili's. I sadly say this night we chose the wrong restaurant. WE NEVER have had such awful service in this Cotton Patch. WE did leave the waitress a nice tip BUT in reality felt the tip was not deserving due to the service, etc. *** ASKED FOR A MANAGER. She never came by. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and corn, while my wife had Cadillac Green Chile Queso. The chicken fried steak was greasy. The breading was definitely not crispy. Potatoes and corn were okay. The gravy was watery and definitely no flavor. The chips with served with the queso were so salty, my wife tried to knock off the excess. The salsa was watery. The queso was okay but the meat placed on top looked like it was just dumped on. We will not be returning to this location at least. read more

Went to cotton patch for their burgers, and they were just a little greasy but pretty decent overall. I wish I could say the same for the fries, which tasted like they had been sitting out for awhile. And the service, the very bizarre service, is the reason for my less than stellar review. The dining experience started off just fine. Our waitress was nice but definitely quirky. She checked in on us every 30 seconds it seemed -- after the drink order, after the food order, when the food arrived, after we had taken our first bites, mid-way through, once we started looking "full" but were still eating. If I had gone to the restroom, I bet she would have checked on me in my stall to see how my experience was going and then once more afterward to see how it ended. At the end of the meal, she asked "could I interest you in a dr pepper or chocolate cake or pecan pie?" And we said, "a dr pepper to-go would be great." Then she asked if we needed to-go cups. Confused, we said "just the dr pepper. Thanks." She was awkward like that throughout the whole meal. It was as if she was speaking to a script and asking questions but would then forget to listen to our answers. So, at this point I decided to run to heb for a few things. I was able to walk there, shop around, buy 4 different items and walk all the way back. And by that time, my boyfriend was just leaving the restaurant. I guess she took 10-15 minutes to come back to the table, and when she did come back, she still didn't have the check but instead dropped off the dr pepper (as discussed) and a slice of chocolate cake to-go, which was weird, since you know, we never ordered it. My boyfriend just gave his card and said just go run it -- I don't even care anymore. So, it turned out that we bought ourselves some chocolate cake. He was just so frustrated he didn't want to wait another 10 minutes for her to fix it. What a pain!! She was up our ass the entire meal until the end when she left us hanging and completely screwed up. Oh well!! read more

Sadly, my streak of good restaurant pickin' is over. Let's start with the service. The hostess walked us over to our table and found two walkers blocking one side. Rather than ask the elderly couple they belonged to if she could move them, she shrugged, put our menus down, and wandered off, leaving us to share the same side of the table. Not bad, but kind of awkward. Table service was slow enough that we'd decided on appetizer and entree and were doing the "Should we just get up and leave?" routine before we could even give our beverage order--nothing fancy, a Dr. Pepper and a water, not like we were asking for decantered angel tears--but unfortunately decided to stick it out once they arrived because, hey, maybe they were backed up. We ordered some chips and salsa and both decided to get the meatloaf. The chips and salsa arrived eventually and seemed fine--the chips were warm, the salsa bland but not bad--right up until the end, when we suddenly hit a patch of stale chips. I assume that's because they used stale chips, not because they took so long to arrive. But I could be convinced. The meatloaf tasted like it had been microwaved and the meat itself tasted just like the meatballs that come in canned food. Like Spaghetti-Os class meat. I don't want to dis Spaghetti-Os, cause I'm a fan, but when I'm paying restaurant prices, I'd like a little something better, maybe. The meatloaf was supposed to come with a special tomato sauce, which as far as I could tell was watered-down, canned tomato sauce. My meatloaf had a fry stuck to it, which I sincerely hope was one of mine that went wandering, not poor dishwashing. For my sides, I got corn--mushy, bland, tasted like something I'd pour out of a can and microwave--and French Fries. The French fries seemed to be the sort of frozen Ore-Ida fries you pick up at HEB with a bunch of pepper and seasoning salt on them. The wife got steamed vegetables that didn't taste like anything and mashed potatoes--red potatoes, not a big deal, but not indicated on the menu--that lurked under a thick, congealed gooey substance that may have been gravy. The menu also promised a fresh-baked roll for each of us that was never mentioned and never appeared. And the wife's Dr. Pepper was very obviously watered down. This isn't a "you'll get food poisoning" 1 star, this is more a "you'd do better at a chain restaurant" one star, since Applebee's could at least make sure the chips were fresh and we got all the menu items, whatever you might say about them. The sad irony is after all that, I was still hungry. It wasn't even filling, mediocre food. read more

I ordered to honey glazed fried chicken with green beans & broccoli rice casserole!! Delish!!! The entree was fresh & perfectly proportioned. On line pick up service is abominable. I think you can drive there, wait to be seated, order, eat and leave quicker than you can pick up an order that you ordered on line an hour earlier. They seem to have the staff, but only one person bagging the orders with no concern that people, many people, are waiting to pick up. Lunch on a Friday: I was seated immediately and went off-diet (this makes for a bad Saturday) to try the chicken fried steak. Service was quick, the food was fresh and delicious and the waiter (John) did a fantastic job. I think I will go here on almost every off-diet day. Try this: order the onion strings and put them on the steak and smother with extra gravy. HELL yes! I give four stars only because I am not fond of garlic mashed potatoes. If you like them they are probably quite good, but I wanted a regular mash and that was not an option.
