Rolls

Everything I've had (pics) is delicious. The rolls are hit & miss, as in they're not always available, but awesome. Definitely comfort food. Lou is the best server! I always ask if he's available. Very attentive and polite. I have never seen a member of management in the place and other than Lou, the other staff members have been rude and inattentive. Please tip Lou well, he's very deserving.

Visited Cotton Patch on Friday night - it was busy but not enough to create a long wait. The atmosphere was fun, the waiter made sure our drinks never ran dry, and I can recommend several good appetizers. The chicken fried bacon is salty and sweet, the cornbread is warm and buttery, the fried pickles have a crispy batter and no spice, but the very best is the golden mushrooms. We will be back to try more of the menu at Cotton Patch soon.

15 mins and no hostess. Grabbed a table at the bar and another ten minutes with no wait staff. Left with no contact. Yikes.

Dirk’s - Fried okra is a must order!!

On the side of the building is a mural stylized after Dirk West cartoons with Raider Red chasing chickens, which immediately helps you understand this food is about to be heavenly. I miss my college town favorites since moving to Austin, so it's always a beautiful moment to return these spaces especially with a friend that always generates great conversation. Inside the restaurant are two spaces: the bar and the tables. We arrived a little after 6 pm, and the dinner rush had beaten us there, plus a large birthday party, which gave us a 30-minute wait or immediate seating at the bar. Bar it is! We were immediately seated and served water. They have a full open bar, some select bottled beer options, and draft choices from their sister location, Brewery LBK. The decor of the restaurant is built around cartoonist and former Lubbock mayor Dirk West. The artwork, statues, and other pieces from Dirk's collection give the place a lot of great character. Their menu is slim, and Dirk's is better for it. I love a menu that limits your options because you know everything is going to be done to the highest level. Their options span from different styles of chicken tenders and bone-in chicken, including Korean Fried Chicken and Nashville Hot Chicken, while also serving traditional bone-in chicken and chicken tenders. I've had a few things from their menu, but this time I ordered their traditional chicken tenders with mashed potatoes topped with jalapeño bacon gravy and their fried okra. It felt like the order was placed in front of me before I had finished ordering; it was that efficient. Places that have small menus not only seem to focus on quality, but they can also churn out meals quicker because they're always firing variations of the same thing. Everything in front of me, from their specialty sauce to the large amount of fried okra and their perfectly breaded and fried chicken tenders, was immaculate. The best part of all of it is the price tag. With the rising costs of fast food, Dirk's is not too dissimilar and is ultimately affordable for the value and amount of food you get. I don't know what else to add here. If you like chicken, I cannot recommend this place enough. If you don't like chicken, you were never 8 years old before. RIYL: Chicken with the quality of sit-down restaurants but the efficiency of Raising Cane's.

I also tried the nashville hot chicken. Let's go pros: I really enjoyed the side options and the amount of food for the price. Chicken was juicy on the inside and not dry. The flavor on the Nashville hot chicken was enjoyable. Cons: The chicken itself doesn't feel marinated or anything so the flavor isn't in the chicken itself. The seasoning on the tenders was very minimal and just tasted like a lot of salt. Same with the okra... the fry on the okra was good but just tasted like salt. The mashed potatoes were fine but the "bacon" in the gravy was canadian bacon or something because it wasn't crispy like bacon. I wouldn't get the mash again.. Nashville definitely had better flavor, but was very very very oily. It's also has like virtually no spice. Dirks signature sauce is like canes sauce but tangier... (Canes is better I'm sorry). Service was good! They do charge 2.5% credit card fee so bring cash.

I was back in Lubbock visiting my girlfriend after she had come to see me in Austin the last few times, and we were planning our weekend. I had previously taken her to The West Table to celebrate her graduation, and since we loved it, we knew we had to go back. Last time we went was an amazing experience. We had their arancini as our shared appetizer. She had their Roasted Beet Salad and the Grilled Rack of Lamb, while I had their Caesar and their Cast Iron Seared Duck Breast, which was amazing. We also enjoyed their specialty drinks. This time we arrived for our 7:00 reservation and were greeted and sat immediately. We both ordered a drink to start the night. I started with the Hibi-Jibi, a hibiscus and gin drink, while she had the Peach Ring Margarita. West Table is a farm-to-table scratch kitchen concept, so it's very important that you order all your food from appetizer to main course up front to give them time to craft it at the right pace. The West Table is at the floor level of the luxurious Pioneer Condos. It sits right across from their sister location, The Brewery LBK, and even serves their current brews on location. However, opting for their brews and not their cocktails is a mistake in my opinion because their specialty cocktails are truly one of a kind. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It feels like a ballroom and all the tables are well spaced out. In the back is the open kitchen where you can see all the chefs putting in hard work and mastering each meal. All around, there is great energy. We started with their Roasted Bone Marrow. I was worried about the idea of eating bone marrow since that was something I had never had before, but my girlfriend assured me it would be great. The bones were filled with an onion jam and lemon caper vinaigrette that were placed inside the bone. You could spread the jam and vinaigrette on their grilled bread, which was fantastic as well. It was purposely charred and really added to the jam's flavor profile. We then split their Caesar Salad, and it was a needed divider between our appetizer and entree. Their salad is a good portion for one person, and it was still satisfying being split for two. It was the perfect amount of salad. We got our next drinks ordered to go alongside our main entree. My girlfriend ordered their Fig Old Fashioned, while I got the "C" Monster, a celery-infused vodka drink with a name that sounds so stupid saying out loud that I almost changed my drink after saying it. Can I get the C Monster? WHAT A FOOL. The drink was really solid. The celery flavor was super noticeable, but in a good way. It balanced with the vodka quite nicely. For our main entrees, my girlfriend got their Salmon over Angel Hair pasta, and I got their Pork Chop over mashed potatoes and asparagus. The noodles with the salmon were strong with a very heavy Cajun kick, which complemented the crispy salmon piece, but my pork chop was the star of the show. They recommended it medium, so I got it medium, and it was delightful. Portions of the pork chop were nice and fatty, while others were lean and tender. I was a big fan of its flavor, and the sauce and mashed potatoes really added to it. Perfectly fluffy mashed potatoes. We closed the night with no dessert, but dessert drinks. My girlfriend got The Cold Fashioned (a mix between a smoked old fashioned and coffee liqueur), and I got the Buenas Noches, which mixes coffee liqueur, chocolate liqueur, and orange liqueur. Of all the "nice" restaurants in town, West Table stands alone. It has a price tag but still feels fair. Everything we had was top notch, and I still think they've made the best duck I've ever had. Their waitstaff is attentive and amazing and really sells the experience. At the end of the night, she was happy, I was happy, and West Table proved itself to be the LeBron of Lubbock restaurants. RIYL: Specialty cocktails that make you go "Ooo that's interesting" and some of the best New American in West Texas

The bartender was quite busy with serving the bar, making drinks for the restaurant, and with bar dining. He was very friendly, albeit, in a rush, and very accommodating when my mom sent one of her favorite meals here back. She was so excited to order the Chicken Pot Pie, but she took one bite and said it was "off." The server and manager did make every effort to make it right, but I just shared my food with her, because it was so much food. I had the Chicken Tenders with mashed potatoes and green beans. The tenders were breaded and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were good, but the green beans had some sweetness added to them that I wasn't a fan of. (The bacon grease in the green beans was a lovely touch, though.) The bread that they serve is divine! It looks like a croissant, but has a dinner roll taste and consistency, with the most incredible whipped and flavored butter drizzled over. The salads that my parents added looked really great to me, and they couldn't finish and have room for the entrees. My dad loves to order the Fish and Shrimp Platter and this time, according to him, the portion was considerably smaller than usual of the Fish, but the taste was still on par. Fresh, crispy, and just right! As we were leaving the rush was beginning and there were quite a few people waiting to be seated and the restaurant was full. Great spot for a casual, affordable, and great meal.
