I came to cotton on a Monday around 7:30 for my first time, host greeted us and showed us a table for 2 even gave us our wand the place had a few tables occupied but not busy. Our waiter was Michael who gave great service and for our first time he was able to give us more description of the entree items. I had the pond and the gulf which was great but a bit salty in my tasting but wasn't overpowering. I subbed out the grits for Brussels sprouts which was no problem. Our margaritas were good just a small glass. My friend had the deer camp meatloaf which I tasted and was amazing! And we shared the duck fries and they were a bit too seasoned which why we dumped it out on a plate but rather have seasoning then no seasoning! Also, the manager let us go upstairs to see the dining area which was more amazing wish we could have sat upstairs! The same week on a Friday 4:30pm I came alone for a second time and was greeted by Micheal and I sat at the bar since there was no one really in at the time. I had the gas station fried chicken subbed the corn for Brussels sprouts and another margarita in a taller glass made by Bishop who gave such great service and is great bartender! I'm so happy I visited Cotton while in Monroe! Cotton is off of a busy road, though there was a parking lot and some street parking nearby, and luckily it wasn't a busy day in the area so it was easy to find a spot. I love the decor, with a nice modern feel in a historic building. Everything felt warm and inviting, and upscale but still inviting if you stop in dressed casually. The host who greeted me at the door was super friendly, and so was the bartender. They had a small list on tap and a good wine and drink selection. I ordered the deer camp meatloaf for dinner, which was absolutely delicious. The sweetness of the glaze, creaminess of the grits, and crispy brussel sprouts were amazing together. They change the menu often it seems, so this entree may not always be available, but based on this experience I'm sure everything is delicious! The bartender was great and would check in often. One of the hostess informed us that they were in the middle of a shift change and they just had a huge rush so they were restocking. It was worth the wait. Once our waiter finally came he was really cool. I got the yardbird sandwich it was juicy and every bite was seasoned through and through. I also got a French 75 to drink. The atmosphere is wonderful in this place. I love the decor and presentation of all the dishes. We had the scratch biscuits and deviled eggs for appetizers. They were amazing. The cane syrup butter with the biscuit made them even better. The eggs were different but delicious. My BLT wedge had a great flavor but was drowning in the dressing. I would definitely recommend the dressing on the side. My husband had the Nashville Bird. He said the flavor of the dish was awesome but the chicken was a little rubbery. The cocktails (the sharecropper and Pimm's Cup) were both tasty and refreshing if not a little too sweet. The deviled eggs are okay...nothing special, just garden variety Sunday DEs, but their shrimp wrap was the winner on the appetizer round. The sloppy joe sandwich was the winner of the main course: great flavor and nicely balanced. The hot chicken and the Cajun catfish were both a little rubbery, but otherwise okay. 5 stars. Easily. Driving back to DFW from FL and the options in this area seemed limited. Until Cotton in Monroe. Do not pass this one up! It's easy to get to, off of 20. The building is incredible and has such a rich history. It was once the site of a mail order liquor company during prohibition and the waiter was very knowledgeable about all of the nerdy history questions I had. The food was excellent and came out quick! I ordered the wedge salad, which had lots of bacon, bleu cheese, and multicolored tomatoes that were fresh and delicious! Great salad! The double cheeseburger was juicy, full of flavor, and on an amazing bun. 10/10 - Excellent job guys The Nashville hot chicken was crispy and packed a lot of heat. I sneezed on my first bite from the spice! I thought it was delicious. The sammich, not the sneeze lol. Overall a wonderful meal. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Well done Cotton! Visited the small town of Monroe and decided to try it, unfortunately we did not have reservations for "Cotton" so we were sat upstairs and The Eli. Waitress was super helpful with recommendations and food was delicious as well. Highly recommend the filet by itself. Appetizers were delicious as well paired with the honeysuckle lemonade. Thoroughly enjoyed the Braised Short Rib! This was on their specialty menu for the day, so I'd recommend asking what they have on it for your next visit. In addition, had a small bite of their Double Burger. Definitely am thinking about ordering that next time. The Duck Fat Fries are enjoyable (definitely for a first time experience) but it is slightly underwhelming as a solo appetizer. However, they make a great addition in the Double Burger entree. The space was a unique mix of modern and rustic and not too overcrowded or sparse with customers. The food was amazing--I got the burger with duck fat fries. The sauce was delicious on the burger and the meat was well cooked. The fries were amazing with the aioli sauce. We also got the fried chicken with corn and mashed potatoes...My husband cleaned his plate so I think he liked it. Just good old fashioned southern cooking but with a modern feel. Ahhhmazing! We were on a quick trip to Monroe and decided last minute to find a great local place to grab a bite to eat and...we were not disappointed! We were greeted and sat quickly around 11:30am on a Sunday. We opted out for an appetizer but the duck wraps, deviled eggs, and the shrimp wraps sounded amazing. Since it was brunch, we went with Shrimp and Grits and the Chicken and Waffles. Two great items that tasted phenomenal - the only downside is that the portion of shrimp in the dish. We were told Jumbo but they were mediumish and there were only 4. BUT the butter for the waffles and the sugarcane syrup knocked the Chicken and Waffles out of the park. The service was ok - it was exceptionally quick but the server was pleasant. The atmosphere is great, fun, lively for all ages. The women's restroom needed to be painted as there were chipped marks all over the walls and there were pictures on the floor...it just looked unkept and needed to be cleaned. The food here was great! There was a glitch with the dough rising for my biscuit, which was sorely disappointing since I've seen so many reviews saying how good they are. We travel here often for family, so perhaps we'll give it another go when we're back in town at some point. If this review was based on just the appetizers it would be 5 Stars. We ate at 2pm so it was lunch/brunch type of menu. The Duck Wraps were delicious but 4 for $18 is steep, we were hoping it would be 6 of them. The Shrimp Wraps were also good but it was only 3 of them which is an odd number for shareable appetizers. The Duck Fat Fries were well seasoned and tasted great. Now on to the entrees which were uninspiring compared to those Appetizers, we didn't even bother to take pictures of those. My girlfriend got the Creole Catfish, it's grilled catfish, with cheesy grits and Herb Parmesan butter, basically it was a dried blackened catfish with side bowl of cheesy grits. My girlfriend asked about the Herb Parmesan Butter because the fish looked so dry the waitress said it was cooked on the fish, but she would go to the back for more sauce. [ I used to be a Chef, and my girlfriend actually used to be the main fish griller in a huge buffet in our hometown, so we know a thing or two.]. When the waitress returns maybe 3 minutes later, she brings a portion cup of hard cold butter and says the kitchen staff said the Herb Parmesan Butter is only for the Dinner Menu, we didn't make a fuss about it, but it's literally listed on the menu in front of us. It was just odd they couldn't accommodate us with something listed on the dish that costs $16. -I ordered the Steak Kabob with Mashed Potatoes and Side salad. The salad was good, but the kabob was a single stick of meat and veggies with mash potatoes wasn't much for $18, the plate looked naked lol. Our family of five enjoyed the dining experience last Thursday night. Our first visit to Monroe-Ruston, LA region and Cotton didn't disappoint. We were tired and hungry after a five-hour drive from Memphis. The ambiance, service, and food were excellent. Three had the Redfish with Pontchartrain seafood toppings, another had the shrimp/grits also with Pontchartrain seafood toppings, and I had the iceberg lettuce wedge w/blue cheese and bacon and sampled everyone's extras! haha. We chose this restaurant due to Yelp ratings (4 stars with several hundred reviews) and convenience to the interstate....we had been on the road for approximately 12 hours & were only 30 minutes from our hotel.
