It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's pretty nice once you walk in. I had the boiled seafood special (3lb of crawfish, 1lb shrimp, corn and potatoes). They cook it when you order it so it was nice and hot. They also let you determine the spice level. The shrimp were huge. The crawfish were a "little" on the small side considering it's late in the season. I personally like them smaller because they are easier to get out of the shell. I'm a resident of Ruston and have been for over 20 years. I visited Cajun Bar & Grill 3Xs several months ago and all 3 experiences were the same. They have a great location as well as a nice restaurant (ambiance) however the service was subpar at best. After ordering the wait time was over 45 minutes. Unacceptable, considering the restaurant was max 5 customers. It may have gotten better since then however I am not enthused about revisiting. I have asked several people about their experiences and the responses were the same as mine. read more

Great food, service & drinks ! Sometimes they have live music as well. The burgers are especially good and the Cajun pasta is delicious.

I wasn't going to write a review, but I want people to be aware of being taken advantage of. Walked into this place around 10:00 PM after traveling all day. Thought we'd grab a quick bite to eat since we were staying at the hotel just across the highway. There were no other customers in the dining area and we were immediately greeted by a guy who said he was the owner. He was very nice and friendly, even joked and chatted with us for a while. We ordered 2 creole carbonara dishes to go. $16 each. I requested shrimp on mine, which was an additional $5. When it was time to leave, we received a bill of $49.12! $16+$16+$5=$37 I asked what the reason was for the other $12. He claimed it was tax! There's no way that Louisiana's taxes are that high! My husband knows me enough to know that I will go in, so he calmly said, "That's about right", signaling for me to NOT. I signed the credit card receipt (not adding a tip) and we walked out. Whatever this guy was doing, he could just take his tip from that. It was obvious to me that he had already added in a nice big, fat tip for himself. The bottom line is: DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS! I don't mind tipping. As a matter of fact, I tip quite generously! But when I see people operating like this, it makes me write reviews like this and never visit your establishment again! As for the food itself, it was just ok. My husband and I ended up having heartburn all night, even though we were up pretty late. I won't be giving this place my business again. read more

Stopped in on 10/31/2021 around 7pm; the place was deserted which scared us a bit but it was Halloween so we let it slide. The server/bartender was very friendly and he was the only front of house employee around. We ordered to go and our food came out of the kitchen within about 10 minutes of being ordered which was impressive. Everything was packaged really well. I had the Cajun Carbonara pasta, and my friends ordered the Pontchartrain shrimp pasta and the red fish meunière. All of it was pretty good but the side of fried okra was the best part. The meunière sauce was NOT the traditional preparation, more of a butter/hot sauce/ Worcestershire sauce? concoction... Overall a good option to have in town and their lunch specials seem too good to be true, so we'll try it again some time soon. read more

OMG! I was on a road trip, passing through Louisiana, and I began to crave cajun food. I also needed gas, and after missing a few gas stations, I finally pulled into an Exxon alongside the highway (I-20). Lo and behold, right next door appeared a sign that said, "Cajun Restaurant!" I felt like I had discovered a lake in the middle of a desert! But would it be good? Gas station foods tend to give me the green emoji feeling, so I couldn't help but be skeptical, since this shared the walls with an Exxon. Also, how good could a place be that couldn't even think of a name more clever than "Cajun Restaurant?" (wth?) I filled the car with gas and decided to check out the restaurant. It was large and mostly empty, yet another red flag. A couple stood in front of me at the hostess desk, ordering take-out food. I asked them if they had ever eaten there before. "Oh yes," said the woman. "In fact, we were here just last night with our son's high school football team & their families. We filled up the place! BEST CAJUN FOOD I've ever had!! Now, we're back again before we back home to Houston, TX." Hmmmmm. 'OK', I thought, 'I'll bite.' So, I did. Literally. I ordered fried shrimp, fried mushrooms, and fried green tomatoes. I rarely eat fried foods, so I don't know what inspired me to order 3 different fried foods. But . . . WOW! That couple was not kidding! Their food IS amazing. The light and crisp batter is so thin, it doesn't cause that heavy, yucky feeling after eating it. And the batter had a subtle kick to it, slightly spicy. I've had fried green tomatoes before but not like this. The food took only 5 minutes to cook and box and I was on my way out when I noticed a display of a beautiful magazine with a thick, textured matte finish. On the front was a pretty lady dressed in 1950's and the magazine had a feel nicer than any Vanity Fair or the like. I picked one up. "Is this free?" I asked the hostess. "Huh!" she replied. "I've never seen those before. Take as many as you want, I have no idea where they came from." So, I did. And then I noticed the name, LOLA. That was my grandmother's name, Lola. And can you guess where she was raised? Ruston, Louisiana! I'm now betting my discovery of the best Cajun Restaurant--coincidentally named "Cajun Restaurant"--that I've ever been to (and I've been to several in my years!) might not have been dumb luck after all. I was doing some work out here and my wife came out to visit for a day, being that we are from Texas she wanted to try some real Cajun food from Louisiana. I am pumped that we decided on this place! Martel was our server and he suggested we get the boudin links... they were awesome! We got the fish and shrimp, it was great, and the creole carbonara dish. That shit slapped! Beautiful place on the side of the highway. I wonder if they suffer from having too big a menu? The roast beef po boy was the worst po boy I've ever had. The bun was soft and tasted sweet. The lettuce and tomato had seen better days, and the roast beef itself was worse quality than I would pick up from subway. The mayo and gravy were okay. Perhaps I'm being too harsh, because the staff were friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms were clean but I would not return unless I need gas or a bathroom again. read more

Stopped in on a rainy Wednesday afternoon and had the place to ourselves, which almost deterred us from going, but after our experience we were so glad we tried this place out. We had the grilled boudin, great flavor and nice texture. Chicken and sausage gumbo was so lovely on such a cold day, presentation was on point. We did the 5lb crawfish special and were pleased with our boil. The crawfish had a little citrus, a little heat, just wish we had room for more. Honestly I can't figure out why this place wasn't packed, maybe it's poppin' on the weekends. The inside of the restaurant doesn't feel like it's attached to a travel plaza at all; by the way the travel plaza seems to be in its infancy so everything is nice and new. The full bar is partitioned from the rest of the restaurant, the servers were friendly. There's plenty of extra parking around back, and they even have a gated patio section with a heater all the way across it. I can't say a bad thing about the place, the service, or the food. We had fish and shrimp basket which was decent fried food. The only Cajun thing that hasn't been marked out of the menu is boudin balls. Disappointing to not have any of the Cajun meals available that are shown in pictures in other people's reviews. read more

yes we came there yesterday 05/28/2023 the customer service was amazing and so was the staff .. the only issue we had was we paid almost 60.00 for food we could not eat .. my husband of 12 yrs decided we was coming here for our official first date at a real restaurant besides like mcdonalds .. well he ordered the boiled shrimp #1 with crab cluster and corn and potatoes and white gravy .. well the seasoning on the shrimp crab and everything in general was super spicy to where he couldn't eat it .. the mashed potatoe was a potato cut in half with gravy poured on it ... i had ordered the hamburger with seasoned fries well the hamburger was drenched in onion and garlic power season and the fried was like air fired and them suck in the microwave . yes we in fact let our waiter know and the waitress she had them wash the seasoning off but it was still to hot for him to eat .. i did try to look up the email and website but could not find one .... read more
