Lack of Communication, I submitted a service request through my home warranty on Tuesday. I received a confirmation email the next day, but no phone call. I called the company (Wednesday) to see when I was scheduled and I was told Friday. Three days with no AC in 100 degree heat... No one ever showed up at my house to service the AC unit and no one ever called to provide any type of update and/or explanation. I called the company and left a message... I absolutely cannot recommend this place. They did a terrible job "fixing" our AC unit and we had to have a 2nd company come out and repair the work they did. They were more interested in selling us a new unit than fixing the old one. We do need a new unit, but I trust the IRS more than these people at this point. I will NOT be purchasing a new unit through them. I would rather use a box fan than have these people in my house again. I'm sure their customer service is fine, but I don't pay someone to be nice to me on the phone, I pay them to fix the air conditioner, which they made worse. read more

I have a home warranty through AHS, so we go through them for our claims. My husband put in a claim. I get a call later that day, while I am at work, TELLING me someone would be out from 1-4. Mind you, it is 12, and there is no way for me to get off work. I tell her no one will be at the house, and it must have been the biggest inconvenience for her. She said "you are telling me there is no way you can get home?" No, first of all, I am an hour away. Secondly, I am not allowed to leave. Then she proceeded to tell me I needed to be there the day after and what time. So again, I tell her, I am sorry but I will be at work. I am off the next day. After a long sigh, she tells me someone would have to call me later to reschedule. So we get the appointment scheduled. That day I take my dog to get groomed and if they keep her for too long, they charge a fee. So I wait until 2, when they said they would be there from 12-3, and I decided I have to go pick her up because they called 2 hours prior. I get a phone call at 2:20, that I miss. And then I get a call at 3:30. It is the guy saying he has waited too long for me, I made him late for 4 other appointments. He tells me there is no way he can wait, although I told him, I am 5 minutes away. I am the customer. You should work around me, not the other way around. I'm amazed that the reviews for this garbage company are available online yet not on the application! The company is either completely incompetent or lacks any idea on doing customer service well. I had an air conditioner go out overnight Thursday. I called American Home Shield as soon as I got up as I found the unit was not functional. They were polite enough to commit someone that morning. In the mean time, I found that the breaker for the AC unit was popped. When I tried to reset it, I found that it had had a mechanical failure. While this is EXTREMELY uncommon, it can happen. The tech arrived and had no idea of what brand of breajer this was. (A 5 minute search on the internet showed that it was an Eliott C type 35VA) So the repair guy asked if he could put a 30VA from my dryer in it's place. He did and left. No diagnosis was done on WHY said breaker fould fail. Hours later we determined that the house was not cooling. It was popping the 30va breaker on a 5 minute basis. So, unable to source a 35va, I got ehat I could get by with. I picked up and installed a 50va breaker. This was followed with by a bang from the AC unit. I contacted Cote's and was told that the soonest that they could get to me was late Saturday afternoon. The tech arrived and actually looked at the unit. He saw the capacitor and stated, I don't know why this wasn't replaced before. He put a new one in place, checked the refrigerant levels and called it good. As it was 90° in the house, I left for 2 hours to determine if the AC was cooling. I returned to find that the house was now at 95°. The unit was not functioning. Repeated calls to all of Cote's numbers have gone unanswered. AHS claims that they will find me a vendor today. But, that is beginning to look bleak. I would recommend that you avoid this inept company at ALL costs. I'm already ot $600 in hotel costs over this. They are well known for also finding numerous "code violations" for units. The $600 will be compensated if we have to go to court. I guess maybe I was foolish to expect an AC company to do what THE WERE PAID TO DO! read more

If I could give this company no stars I would. I have AHS and my A/C stopped working so they sent these guys to fix it. A couple days later I noticed my carpet was wet so I started looking for the source. I look up and my ceiling is wet. My husband went in to the attic and the technician cut a pipe when he was "fixing" the A/C and my attic was flooded. I immediately called them to come fix it and they couldn't send someone for 5-7 hours and advised me to turn off my A/C. I live in Texas and this is July so it's 100 degrees outside. I demanded they send someone now and they said they couldn't. Never use this company!! read more

This company has come to service my air conditioning unit twice. When they found out that the air conditioning coil needed to be replaced, on 7/18/2012, the tech stated that he would have to call my home warranty company, American Home Shield, to replace the part. I called AHS today, 07/24/2012 and the company has not called AHS to have the part replaced. Six days later I have no air conditioning in my house and it is HOT! I had to buy a portable air conditioner which is only used for one room. I have been inconvienienced and will make further complaints on this company. read more

This company was very dishonest We had several issues while working with Cote's Mechanical A/C company. We have 3 A/C units in our home. When we bought our home, only one of our A/C units were not working. For reference purposes, we will call that particular unit, unit A. They came out to look at unit A and told us we had a leak in the coil. We arranged for them to come out and replace the coil. They came out a few days later and put in the new coil and to service the A/C unit. The following day Unit A was only blowing out hot air and was not cooling at all. So we called and had them come out again. They recharged it and again, we had cool air for about 1 day and then it would stop working. While they were there I had them check our Honeywell Focus Pro 6000 TH6220D1028 thermostats. They said that 2 of our Honeywell thermostats were not working and they replaced 2 of them with Two (2) Seabreeze TPS12X thermostats. When they did this our A/C unit that controls the kitchen and living areas (I will call this Unit B) would not turn off. I turned the thermostat completely off and it would still keep running. We ended up pulling the breaker. A few days later, Cote's sent out the technician to look at it. He told us they would have to rip out our wall and completely rewire the system. It wasn't doing this until they replaced our thermostats with the 2 Seabreeze TPS12X thermostats. We requested for them to replace the SeaBreeze thermostats with comparable Honeywell Thermostats that were originally in the home and that we were willing to even pay extra for an upgrade. I will include the email for documentation. When we did research on the SeaBreeze thermostats we found out what poor ratings they got. Trying to work with this company became extremely frustrating as one of the owners became very defensive as we caught her in several lies. She would not reply to any emails we sent, I am assuming because she did not want any documentation of the lack of customer service they provided. We went 3 weeks trying to work things out on our own with this company. Going for 3 weeks with only 1 working AC unit trying to cool our entire house was quite frustrating. What was the most frustrating was the fact that they walked off the job and left us high and dry with wires unplugged in our attic. We ended up having another company come out and look at the problems. They replaced all of our thermostats with White Roger thermostats. The Problem with Unit B was resolved immediately confirming that the thermostat was the problem and not the wiring. Unit A was misdiagnosed by Cote's Mechanical. Our Condenser was not working properly and therefore needed to be replaced. Because our old unit was a 10 seer, the coil that Cote's mechanical installed was useless to us. We paid over $900.00 for a coil that we had no use for since you can no longer buy a 10 seer unit. And we had to buy another coil to go with our new 13 seer condenser. When the 2nd A/C company came out, the installers told us the coil Cote's put in was not a new coil and looked to be refurbished. I contacted Cote's directly yesterday to give them an opportunity to make this right with us and asked for them to reimburse us for the coil that we had no use for. They declined to make things better for us and again treated me very poorly. The 2nd company with in 1 day had all three of our A/C units working great and were very honest with us. It just confirmed that Cote's was in the wrong. To sum this up, I am very upset with the fact that we had to go so long with out A/C, were lied to, problems were misdiagnosed and they made absolutely no effort to make things better for us. The main purpose for me filing this complaint is to let other consumers know what we ran into with this company. I would hate for anyone else to have to deal with the problems we dealt with. Part 2 9/12/2016 85 degrees... here I sit in my home sweating... A feeling to which I have become accustom. No matter, I have attained more ways to combat the heat at a low cost. There is a YouTube link to a DIY project entailing a frozen gallon of water, a small electric fan and an ice cooler. When combined, you can cool a room to under 70 degrees! Why should I have to attempt this task you may inquire. I'll tell you the tale but this is part 2 and keep in mind, this is likely a trilogy. Today, during the scheduled window of 11am to 2pm a technician with Cote's Mechanical arrived at my domicile. For the sake of this story, we'll call him Richard, because he didn't give me his name and he seemed like a "Richard". Richard announced his arrival with a ring on my doorbell, I answered and he explained he was here with Cote's Mechanical to "fix my A/C" (false hope and empty promises). I asked him where he needed to start and he said the thermostat, so I pointed him in the right direction saying, "at the top of the stairs, straight ahead... I need to pay the guy fixing my dishwasher." Richard spent about 22 minutes here in the house, once going outside to check the exterior unit and spending the majority of his time in the attic with the interior unit. With no further communication from him, I hear a voice overhead express, "You need to change your air filter more often sir." My mind wandered... You mean the filter that was changed just before I moved in a little over a month ago? I pondered. Richard bounded down the stairs to describe the nature of my predicament. He resounded, "This is the first time I've ever seen an ECM motor go bad. It's a specialty part so we'll have to get it ordered." "How long will that take?" I asked. He stated, "At least a few days." Confounded, I squeaked out the words, "oh... okay, uh thanks?" Richard seeming to complete his task left my abode with a handshake, a gesture I now regret. Upon returning upstairs to inspect the work that was "done" I discovered my A/C in pieces, my return vent left ajar and my filter strewn about the floor. At first, I was just going to take pictures for American Home Shield to review but peering out the window, I noticed his truck was still parked in from of my house. So I walked to the curb next to his truck and asked him why he left everything asunder. He stated to me, "You need to change your filter." With a noteworthy amount of vitriol in his voice. I asked him if he wouldn't mind coming back in to return the items to their proper place, to which he grunted "Don't make no sense." As I type this note, it pains me because that "conjugation" of words, if you can call it that, is in no way a communication in the English language, but restraining myself from the urge to correct his grammatical errors, I simply followed him into the house where upon he did perform the task I had required of him. When leaving, I noticed my Nest was out of sorts. I asked him about it and he told me that the unit was disconnected and not to turn anything on because if I did, I would "flood my house." To conclude this chapter, I'll simply say that anyone with half a brain would not turn on an A/C unit knowing full well it would not perform the desired service. Backing up just a step, I've not had a good experience with anyone from this company except Summer whom politely answers the phone and communicates the misfortune of hostages,... excuse me, I mean "customers" to each caller and albeit, with a lilt in her tone. On a whim, I called a friend of a friend who'd done A/C work for me before, Kostos Vergos around just before 7pm CDT. Low and behold, he answered the phone! Don't use Cotes!! Horrible people. Would give zero stars if it was possible. They said they would be at my home between 1-4, they then text me day of the appointment at 7:15am to let me know they would be at my home at 8. I took time off work to be home at the time they said they would be there. The woman who said she is the only manager there was extremely rude and condescending and would not hold to their appointment time. I have proof in text that said my appointment was 1-4 and they said it would yes be confirmed between 7-7:3, yet they only contacted me because I text them at 7:15 to make sure they would still be there at the time I was told the week before. I'm a single mom and can't leave work at the drop of a hat for their flaky scheduling. They have also worked on my AC unit several times and they never actually fix the unit. Worst company ever! My experience has been horrible with Cotes Mechanical. They were sent out by my warranty company and it has been about a week and a half... still no working AC. The girl Amy that answers the phone has treated me extremely poorly and has no customer service skills. If she worked for me she would be fired. I had to find the serial number for the ac unit in my house because the tech that came out could not find it. I hope to get a call from them to do the right thing and fix the issue but as this point I really doubt it. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY TO WORK ON YOU HVAC. Cote's came to check out of my ac unit as contracted by American Home Shield. The serviceman told me the condenser needed replacing. He stated AHS would only cover $10. per lb of the $70. per lb cost of Freon and I would be responsible for the remaining which would be $800. to $900. He went further to say that if I was lucky that would keep it running for 6 to 8 months and then they would have be back to put another band aid on it. Which at that time would probably have to replace the freon at $800. or $900. again. He said the coils inside the unit were bent, the fan blade was warped and after inspecting the coils inside, stated they needed to be pulled and flushed to even get the ac to function half way efficiently. Basically this is unit is over 20 years old and is done. I asked to make sure to put all that information in his report to AHS because it doesn't make sense to do a patch job. AHS come back stating Cote's only requested the condenser be replaced and did not mention any of the issues the serviceman explained to me. They stated if I felt the unit needed to be replaced that recommendation would have to come from Cote's. I then call Cote's back to question why all the failing parts were not listed in their report to AHS. I left a message for their AHS authorization liaison Misti. She called back and left a message that all the serviceman stated it need was a condenser and that was all I was gonna get. She went further to ask if I wanted the regular freon which would be $910. out of my pocket or the cheaper/watered down version which would be $510. She was rude and flippant and said if I wanted a new unit I would have pay for it myself. It is not a matter of me wanting a new unit. I have had 3 different repairmen come out and they all said the same thing which is that it doesn't make any sense to patch on this unit due to age and condition. It is not going to work efficiently and or long if the condenser is replaced and will be right back in the same situation in a few months. Cote's insist AHS will not replace the unit even though I know 2 different people who have gotten their units replaced under the same circumstances of age and condition. I explained this in my message to MIsti but she simplly did not care obviously. What type of repair person/company offers you watered down/less efficient product??? What type of reputable repair company doesn't want to do what is best for the customer??? Makes me wonder what type of kick back system/program they have with AHS to just keep patching on systems as opposed to resolving the problem once and for all... Misti acted like the money was coming from her pocket when I requested going back to AHS and reporting every issue the serviceman reported to me and making the right/correct recommendation. HORRIBLE customer service. I will cash out and buy a couple of window units and be done and Cote's will not get a dime of from me or AHS because they refused to work with the customer toget a long term/right resolution. read more

He walked me through the steps he was taking and didn't try to upsell me needlessly. I was a bit shocked at the price of the capacitor but what can I do? Dishonest and disrespectful technicians, I would give them ZERO stars but I had to select at least one to post a review. Our AC stopped working and Cote's mechanical was dispatched to look at our system. The technician discovered a leak in the system by "just looking at it". Now, im not an AC tech but how can you find a leak by just looking at a system. The tech advised us that we needed a new system and gave our information to their sales team. We got a quote to replace the system that we felt wasn't very competitive. During this process the tech was extremely rude to my wife, belittling her with comments like "im the expert here", "what you don't trust me". All on a Saturday. Our problem was a little more extensive so we had to let the coil thaw before it could be repaired, but he was back on Monday and got everything taken care of. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far from these horrible people. I have a home warranty and Cotes was sent out. The first technician told me the unit was probably frozen up, to turn off the air, wait 5 hours or so, then turn it back on. He got my service fee and said he would come back to check on it the next day. He did not come back. I called and asked for someone else to come out. They sent a supervisor out. He did not check anything, but immediately went in the attic, checked the unit, and came down and told me the evaporator coils were dirty. He said the receptionist would have to check to make sure it was covered by my warranty. No one ever called, so i called them. She told me they would prob come out the next Monday. (I called Tuesday). So, that meant almost a week waiting. So, Monday came and no one called. I called them, and sne changed her story. It would be Tuesday. Tuesday came, no one called, so i called them. She finally said someone would come out between 1pm and 4 pm. About 5 pm i called back because no one from cotes showed up. She said he was running late. Well, he finally came. He was supposed to pull and clean the evaporator coils. He went into the attic, sprayed some spray on it, vacuumed it with a shop vac and left. Well, needless to say, it did not fix the original problem. So, i have called and left 2 messages, 4 days apart, for cotes to call me to fix the problem. No one has ever called. So, please save yourself, stay away from this awful company!!!!!!!! THEY DONT DESERVE ONE STAR!!! read more

I wish I could give them zero stars!!! In my opinion AVOID AVOID AVOID. This is my experience and my personal opinions as to what happened: They were referred to me by American Home Shield. They came out to look at the AC unit and told me that it had a leaking evaporator unit that couldn't be repaired and rather HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WOULDN"T BE ABLE TO GET THE PART OR AUTHORIZATION FOR MAYBE A WEEK right before Memorial Day Weekend, HOWEVER FOR A MERE $5000 I could get a new unit TOMORROW MORNING BUT IT WOULDN"T BE COVERED BY THE AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!! Wow!!! He then told me that under the terms of the AHS warranty, he had 48hours to submit his estimate and they had another 48 hours to authorize so it could easily be a week before they fixed the AC unit and the temperatures were in the upper 90's!!! I called the office and they stood by their guy and their recommendation that I replace the entire unit if I wanted A/C in the near term, again, for $5000! So I got a second opinion the next morning and it turns out that someone had turned off the AC unit (wasn't me...) and that there was no leak in the evaporator coil according to the second contractor. It apparently needed some refrigerant and it has been working perfectly fine ever since. Further, American Home Shield told me that if the AC unit needed to be replaced, it would be covered by the warranty. It is my understanding that when Cotes provided their estimate to American Home Shield, COTES requested authorization to proceed with a REPAIR NOT REPLACEMENT of the evaporator coil which would cost only $90!!! That's a big difference from the $5000 for a new unit!!! And, if they could have just repaired it, not replaced it, why didn't they do that right away???? According to American Home Shield, they didn't even need a separate authorization for such a small amount??? Again, to reiterate, my review is my opinion based upon my personal experiences along with what I was told by the other a.c. Contractor and American Home Shield personnel. Maybe my experience isn't representative of Cotes normal business operations, but I, personally, won't take that chance again. If I had let this go, we might still not have A.C. With temperatures in the upper 90's, there are plenty of A.C. Contractors out there-- choose wisely. I will in the future! read more

Well as it happens, our A/C went out on a Friday, just two days prior to the hottest day of the summer here in Plano. Our home warranty company sent Cotes. They weren't going to be able to get out until late Sunday ...but put us on a cancellation list. Sure enough, they had someone out (Thank you Jason) before three p.m. on Saturday. We have done business with them before and we have always been satisfied (we have two units in this house built in 1988). This time the diagnosis was pretty much yeeeeessss, we can fix it ...but we honestly believe it's a temporary fix and also will take a few days because of having to order the part. No way my mom could take the heat for a few days and her disability makes it difficult to go stay anywhere else for any length of time. After some research and discussion, I called Cote Wyatt and discussed it with him. Cote was very patient with my questions and did NOT push for the whole new package. That and remembering what our initial inspector when we bought the house in 2010 had said about this particular unit, we decided to just go with replacing the whole shebang (well, the big one anyway -- not both). Cote had his team there there on Sunday morning ready to go! They were incredibly courteous, took a moment to be friendly to our dog so that they could come/go as needed without freaking him out, they worked their butts off in a house that was posting 88+ on the thermostat, having to go up/down the stairs, in and out of a tiny attic door into the attic. By early evening the downstairs was a delightfully cool - almost cold place to live!!! Before, we had to crank it down to about 69 or 70 to get cool. It has been on 73 for two full days now and it's COOOOL. in fact, Mom asked me to move it up a degree before I left for work this morning. Aaaahhh. Thank you Cote!!! I'm already seeing the savings!! I have been waiting for over 2 weeks for them to install a compressor for my A/C in middle of a TEXAS SUMMER - 103 Degrees!!!!! TWO WEEKS! They have scheduled windows for install only to tell me when I call to confirm that it was tentative and so I was never truly put on the schedule, and they will call again when they have another opportunity to install it. Initially after reading some of the reviews I was a little worried. I was using my American Homeshield warranty and you just never know who they will assign. We have had some good experiences with the warranty and we have had a couple of bad ones. My concerns started out with a four day delay in getting out to have my A/C looked at. Our air went out Friday morning and they were not able to see us until Monday. Then on Monday I had no time window to start the day. then it appeared that we were forgotten and given a 5-7 pm window. So saying I was concerned was understatement. In the end I have to report that Houston the tech was great ! He diagnosed the problem on Monday and before noon on Wednesday we had a new blower motor installed and a cool house. So yes, I would recommend Cote's Mechanical. Sometimes things happen but it is making it up and getting taken care of that matters. read more

So I have an annual maintenance agreement with Cote's after they installed my system four years ago. Last evening I noticed that the A/C was blowing air, but it didn't seem to be too cool and went outside and sure enough the outside unit was off. I've had this problem with my previous unit and it was a capacitor that failed. I called first thing this morning and because I have the maintenance agreement they bumped me to the head of the line and had someone out between 10-1 to fix. If I could put zero stars I would but they get one star because the son and father are very charming in their sales pitch so that does take some talent. Please - whatever you do make sure you get a second opinion as they will try and sell you on something that is NOT broken. They came out first to look at my AC, went up in the attic and then informed me that I needed a new evaporative coil because it had busted and was leaking oil. Then they went to the unit outside and came back to inform me that I needed 8lbs of Freon at $80 a pound! Then they tried to push simply buying a new unit. They called my home warranty which in turn called me to tell me my out of pocket quote to get me up and running would be over $1,000.00. I asked for a second opinion and had A US Air come out. I was up and running in 30 minutes for $100.00 because all I needed was 2 pounds of Freon. The A US Air tech showed me the gauge and how to read the Freon level. He also showed me that there was no oil leaking in my attic and in fact there was no broken evaporative coil! They never even took it apart to look at it! They get a lot of 5 star reviews on their website as I am sure it is because they talk a good game and act quick. This is nothing but a Son and Father con team.
