Just a heads up that my go-to local A/C company has sold out to a large corporation. Cote's Mechanical, LLC is now a part of A-1 Heat & Air. I made an appointment yesterday for a check of freon level with what I thought was still my local Cote's Mechanical, LLC but when I received the confirming text message this morning I see that they are no longer an independent, local company. I called to cancel the appointment and when I was connected I thought it was a human on the line with me (excellent AI robot) and that sealed the deal to never use them. Every since Cote sold this about a year ago this has become the worst HVAC Company in the DFW area. They do not call back, they show you fake photos of problems. Yes, fake photos... When you call them out and ask for leadership they do not call you back. I have over 14 calls and vms into leadership and customer service and they will not get back to me. Called Cotes to service a Ac unit that stopped working The ECM blower motor was bad. Tech gave me a on site quote of $2400.00 I told him he was out of his mind and that bet I can buy that motor for $500 or less. He assured me that I couldn't and that he was not trying to take advantage of me. Well Mr Tech Your a liar! I have a nice Place and its hot outside so I guess he thought I would just pay the what ever. Long story short I was able to purchase a new ecm motor for $385.00 and its a pretty simple repair its might take me a total of 2hrs for the labor and I'm not a AC specialist but I'm not a dumb A-- either. Replaced entire AC/heater system $10,000+ and it has never worked during the summer 2nd in a row. Errors on digital tablet and Wireless access point every day when it's over 80F. Company sends me a techie same day I call but he or they as a group "fix" my issue... but it's NEVER FIXED. If you want higher temperatures during heat, you'll be fine... 74F is not that comfy for this active couple and child. 75F is what my parents and grandparents keep their AC on being non-active. read more

We purchased a new A/C and heat pump. 13k total for all the duct work and new equipment. Our 15 year old A/C system cooled our house way better than this new one, unfortunately we went with Cote's because American Home Shield recommended them. When the sales guy came out, he promised that he would have our A/C "blowing snowballs". It does not. It won't cool below 75 degrees during the summer months of Texas. Our house is only 1571 sq ft, it shouldn't be that hard to cool. Our sons room is so hot, he has to sleep in the living room and their bathroom gets no air, so our boys have to shower in our bathroom. Cote's has been out approximately 8 times over the last 2 years and this last time they came, they tried to tell us that we need another intake vent and installation (another $1,800+). We are extremely uncomfortable in our small house and still owe 9k. The last tech that came out even said that there's no way he could sleep in that room. Ridiculous. We will be calling another company to come out to fix it and will not be using Cote's. The woman who answers the phones is rude and shows NO empathy towards our situation. I do not recommend this company and wish I would've spent more time researching reviews before purchasing something so expensive. Learned my lesson. read more

They came out Saturday to fix my air conditioning unit. Today is Thursday of the following week five days later and the air conditioner is broken again. The guy said that if there was a problem to call him back and he would come out right away, I called and called and had the extended warranty people call and call To no answer and no avail. After paying for an extended warranty where I should only have a $75 fee I was charged $335 due to the cost of the R 22 coolant. This is the one item which is not fully covered by the warranty due to the EPA requiring the transition out of using r22. To say that it is evil is an understatement in the Texas heat to be treated in such a fashion. Due to the excessive temperatures even after my air conditioner was fixed Saturday I was forced to stay in a hotel as the house only dropped 1°/ hour. This meant that due to the late hour of my arrival home last week, I had to stay at a hotel for a total of three nights. This was $200, which I will never be reimbursed, nor receive any value for save a cool place to sleep. Here we are again on a late Thursday night packing a bag to go to a hotel, and once again I'm stuck paying the bill. The company website claims 24 hour service, and yet no one ever answers the telephone after hours. I will be forced to take time off of work or time out of the very few weekends that I have time off to deal with a problem that plagued me last weekend. Following there hopefully coming out and properly completing the job, I will update this review. For now and those who read it, clearly this is a buyer be ware situation. read more

I opened a ticket with my warranty company to repair my AC. This contractor came out informed me that it could cost 400 to 600 month depending on the leak to repair and that it was more cost effective to replace the unit for 7k. I went with a larger company for AC replacement for peace of mind and this company stated to the warranty company that replacement was not their recommendation. I just feel like being honest is a more ethical way of doing business. read more

I've been using COTE''s Mechanical since June 2011. At that time my AC was down for 3 1/2 weeks dealing with American Home Shield sending out seven different AC companies all telling me that they could not do anything to fix or repair my AC unit. Finally, they sent out an additional company Cote's Mechanical. Cote was doing math on my unit when and calculated that he could only get my unit 20° cooler and it was 104° outside. He advised me to get a new unit. They sent out Foster and Foster was very knowledgeable about systems. Told Foster I needed to think about purchase and pray about it. He prayed with me right there and got my business. Thereafter I Sued AHS in small claims court( 1st and only time to sue anyone ) and got them to pay $7K towards my $11K unit. Fair for all parties. Cote's Mechanical come out twice a year for seasonal maintenance. Haven't had an issue since and CUT my electric bill in half. Cote's Mechanical rock!!!! Great install too! This company was dispatched to us through a home warranty service purchased by the seller of the home. We were willing to pay for the additional freon the tech recommended, HOWEVER we also wanted to pay for a tune up to ensure we were covering all our basis. The guy Bill said they don't do any AC tune ups until September. WTF!? That doesn't even make sense. He then said he had 4 more places to go after here. I asked if they didn't have enough techs and he said "I guess not". Extremely rude! He OBVIOUSLY didn't want to do any work and we were willing to pay! He wanted to spend as little time here as possible. I'm really shocked by his "I don't care" attitude. I am in the service industry as and we dispatch technicians, so I'm very familiar with the type of service expected. My husband is on the phone with the home warranty service as I type this and I left a voicemail for COTE'S. I'm not saying COTE'S is a bad company, but this tech Bill provided horrible service and did not represent them well at all. read more

Our AC went out on a Sunday, we called Monday morning and they were able to send someone that afternoon. The original arrival time was between 1pm - 5pm and during the morning we were getting updates narrowing in the technicians arrival. Robert arrived when promised, quickly assessed the problem, gave us an estimate which we accepted and he fixed the problem. There was no hassle, no up sell just an honest repair. We were jerked around four separate times over the last four weeks with two different technicians and I'm currently sitting in my house with a 90° upstairs and almost 80 downstairs. The worst. There are really not enough stars to say how much this company rocks! We sort of stumbled upon them as a happy accident. We have an American Homeshield warranty on our home in Denton, TX. Part of the agreement of our warranty mandates that you must keep your HVAC unit properly maintained in order to keep the warranty in force. One of their preferred providers is Cote's Mechanical. We had historically used another local company, but switched over to have these guys maintain our unit. They do an incredible job, and their customer service can't be beat. As I sit here typing this review, my husband is on his way over to our house to meet the technician. Our compressor went this past weekend, and in the space of basically 72 hours, they were able to order and retrieve the part from the supplier and get us on the books for installation and repair. When we go to replace the unit in a year or two, we will definitely be looking to this company to help us out with that process. Cote's Mechanical is First Class. We bought a house with a 30 (yes, thirty!) year old unit upstairs that stopped working. Cote's Mechanical took a look at it, and not surprisingly the unit was old, rusted, and not worth saving. So we had them put in a new Trane XR 16 system. The installation was somewhat complicated because we didn't have room for a full-sized condenser outside, but Cote's was able to install a low profile (i.e. side fan) condenser that fit into the space. Unfortunately the 2.5 ton unit ended up being undersized, and the upstairs was still too warm during the hot summer days. After looking everything over, Cote's agreed that the unit was simply too small and that we really needed a 3 ton system. Ultimately this seemed to be some type of miscommunication when the unit was first sold to us. We were willing to pay the difference in cost to start over and put in a 3 ton system. But Cote's went above and beyond that. They found out from Trane that we could simply replace the condenser outside with the 3 ton condenser, and that would be compatible with our current evaporator unit. And they actually swapped to the larger 3 ton condenser at no cost to us whatsoever. Now THAT is customer service. Honestly, there have been very few times in my entire life that I've seen a company go above and beyond as Cote's Mechanical did. Their integrity as a company is truly rare, and we are very happy to be customers of theirs. I would also note that their office staff is excellent, available, and very responsive. All around, they run an excellent operation. I would give them 7 stars if I could. read more

We are very happy with the experience we have had with Cote's Mechanical so far. Everyone we have worked with has been very friendly and professional: the technician who diagnosed our problem, Cody and Foster in Sales and Finance, the two gentleman who installed our new HVAC unit and the office staff who answered my follow up questions. We were also very impressed with the turnaround time. We filed a claim with our AHS (home warranty) on Monday morning. Cote's had a technician at our house the following afternoon (ten minutes EARLY). That evening, Cody came to explain our options of repair vs replace, including financing if we were to replace the unit. The next morning, two technicians arrived at 10:30 AM and worked until they finished the HVAC install at 6:30 PM. We were without A/C for less than 30 hours once the leak was detected. In Texas, this is crucial and impressive! I was going to give 4 stars instead of 5 because I didn't feel the costs for financing was explained well, and we weren't handed anything on paper. However, I will admit, I was heat drunk when all of it was explained to us, so it could have just gone right over my head at the time. Everything was digital, which is nice but also challenging. After I had a chance to review the paperwork that was emailed to me, I realized how much we'd agreed to pay in finance charges ($6500) by choosing 6.99% over 12 years vs 0% over 60 months, I was very mad at myself for not paying better attention and asking more questions about that. I contacted Cody and Foster by email, and even though Cody was technically not working at the time, he called me within 15 minutes of me sending the email to answer my questions and help change our financing. Would not recommend! Said American Home Shield denied claim. When speaking to American Home Shield they reported that the company did diagnostic testing and did not find anything wrong. No diagnostic testing was complete. They took pictures and were at our house for less than 5 min. read more

PROS: The tech was super friendly and appeared professional. CONS: No weekend hours available. First visit the tech really didn't know what was wrong with my AC . No cold air and it was pouring water like a waterfall causing water damage. Was eager to leave with no answers only stating probable cause a blower fan part. He ordered the part and came back 2 days later. He changed the part and didn't wait to see if the AC unit was still leaking and left. Within 30 minutes the flood of water began again. When I called their office to tell them, they would get back to me. I received a text asking me if it was standing water or an actual leak! I know a waterfall of water when I see one! They made an appointment for the next day! Summer Texas heat and no AC and water damage occurring is not a good thing to mess with! I ended up calling another company and they came to my house within 2 hours and had my AC repaired and up and running! read more

Just some friendly advice.My experience with Cravens and MaGouirk. Located in Callisburg Tx. Jay was actually my second opinion company Thank Goodness he came out and looked at my air conditioning unit! The company before, Cote's mechanical from Sanger Texas was telling me that I was going to have to spend over $1,100 out-of-pocket for service I didn't even need. Turns out that they put the wires backwards on the capacitor which would make it look like the compressor was out! Also telling me my Freon was burned and I needed to replace all of the freon. Which obviously was not true! Thank goodness we have honest hard-working people like Cravens and MaGouirk! Within 30 minutes he had my AC up and running. Thank you Jay very much! I had my AC repaired by Cotes. Got the scheduling call and text. They were on time and had all the parts. Said it would take 4-5 hours and it did. Cleaned up after the work. Communication was great, work was done as planned and the cost was exactly what was quoted. Only been a few days but the air is cold and I've had no problems. Had a full system (everything but the duct work) installed by Cote's. The thermostat has started malfunctioning and I intended to replace it. While inspecting the wiring to make sure the thermostat I wanted would work, I noticed the wiring was labeled like none I had ever seen before. I contacted Cote's to get some clarification as to what I needed to do and I was informed that system I have requires a specific thermostat and I couldn't use anything else. WHAT?!?!?!? First off, this is something that should have been shared at the time I purchased it. I would have NEVER agreed to install a system that required a proprietary thermostat. I'm a DIYer and I want to be able to go buy what I want from where I want. What happens in 10 years when the thermostat dies and replacements are no longer manufactured? Second, I had a technician comment during one of my preventative maintenance checks that he was surprised I was still using the same thermostat because they have had a lot of problems with them and most of their customers had opted to go with something else. Wait, I thought I could only use this one specific thermostat with my system?! Somebody's not being honest. So, I'm sitting here waiting for a technician to arrive to look at my thermostat and have no idea when to expect them. Nobody has bothered to call with a time window. Typically they call the day before but not this time. I have called twice this morning and nobody answers the phone. How are you going to advertise 24/7 emergency service with nobody answering phones? This isn't the first time I've had an issue reaching somebody at Cote's. I'm at the point right now that I can't in good conscience recommend this company. My interaction with the technician, if they ever show up, will determine if my opinion will be changed. Not looking too good right now. Update: It is now the next day. Nobody showed up and nobody called me. If I didn't have a maintenance plan I would be so done with this company. read more

Their service has really gone down hill this year as you cannot get them to return your call for service and their repairman do not clean the outside coils as part of their preventive maintenance. Cote Mechanical and the other family-owned AC company were sent to my home by a home warranty company to repair an AC during the summer. The patriarch of this family tried to over-sell me on a non-related issue then finally installed a unit that promptly died. After weeks and weeks of the run-around, a reputable company completed the repair (which has now functioned perfectly for more than a year). Service providers aren't perfect, but the reason for my review is for the behavior of Cote's father was threatening and insulting. He actually threatened to not finish his job, even after leaving me without AC (after his bottom-of-the-barrel unit failed) for two weeks with three small children in my home. I see that a lot of others have experienced the same thing with Cote, so just add me to the long list of frustrated (and very hot & sweaty) customers who were subject to slick sales pitches and failed installations and long wait times for repairs. This company is run by an extremely unethical leadership team, and you, the customer, will pick up the tab for their lack of commitment to true service. read more

This place is super sketchy. Purchased a home and they came out to verify AC was in working condition, and check off that it is fine. I move into the house a week later and it doesn't cool at all. I do a recall and they come back out only to tell me that my freon has been STOLEN out of my unit?! What?! Pretty coincidental if you ask me. They serviced it before and after...knew the house was vacant. Something is fishy here. Now I'm trying to fight this but looks like I'm out at least $800 for an empty freon tank, but honestly the unit needed replacing before purchasing the house. They should have caught that...it is 25 years old. Hey, I could be wrong...but someone tell me this doesn't seem the least bit suspicious. My appt was set-up b/w the hours of 3p to 6p. My whole day I was waiting for the "skilled" technician to arrive. He arrived about 5ish. Before he looked at the vent I had to offer a step stool because he was short. He then asked me where the attic was. I pointed him to my bedroom closet. He came out of the closet and told me that he had "relatives" who lived in the area. He said all the houses were built that way to pass code. Then he said he was going to call the landlord and give him some pricing to re-route a connect hose from the A/C to the vent in the room. This lasted ALLLL of about 15-20 min. He could have texted that info to the landlord! Again, if u just want to give away free money to a company, this would be one to give to. Do NOT look for a return! read more
