I had an overall great experience at the optometrist's office at Costco today! I made an appointment to get an eye exam for new contacts and the receptionist who picked up the phone was super friendly and helped me get an appointment for the same day. When I came in, I filled out some paperwork and once I was done, I was lead into the back of the office to have my eye exam done. There was no wait at all!
After completing the eye exam in just about 10 minutes, I got to meet the doctor. Dr. Homuth was kind, funny, and really easy to talk to. He even explained to me every part of my eye that I was looking at in my retinal images. After a few more tests with him and being given my prescription, I was lead back out to learn how to put contacts in (note: there is a $21 fee for this training) as I had never worn contacts before. The optometric assistant (I didn't get her name - but she has the really pretty eyes) then took a seat with me so that she could teach me how to put contacts in. She explained everything really well and in less than 15 minutes, I had learned how to put my contacts in and take them out all on my own! But let me tell you, it wasn't easy. I couldn't stop blinking for the life of me, but alas I was finally able to do it and she was super patient with me. She told me there have been people that have literally sat there and tried for hours so I was pretty proud of myself :P
After we were finished, she gave me about 10 pairs of daily disposable contacts to take home and let me know I could order more with my new prescription in the lens department if I wanted to. When I got out to the lens department, I was helped by Jacklyn. She was really friendly as well and answered all of my questions before helping me order 2 boxes (6 month supply) of Acuvue contacts.
Everyone we interacted with today was very helpful and genuinely seemed like they wanted to help and I really appreciated it.
I think it's worth mentioning though, we have had one bad experience here at the lens department. A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were there to ask where we were supposed to wait for his eye exam appointment and the guy that was behind the counter at the time didn't want to give us the time of day. When we approached him, he just put a finger up, signaling for us to wait and didn't say one word or even look up from his computer. Too bad he was the only person at the counter so we had no one else to ask. We ended up just going into the optometrist's office to ask if it was okay that we wait inside until his appointment time. That was the one bad experience we've had in the lens department, but other than that, everyone else we spoke to today was very helpful. read more
