genuinely the worst customer service. never in my life have i been so angry that i felt the need to write a review that i know won't even affect the company but these people never answer the phone & it's extremely frustrating. it doesn't matter how many times you call, what hours you call at, what days you call on, they never pick up the phone. i work in customer service myself so i understand it gets busy but never that busy to where you can't take a second outta your day to pick up the phone. read more

Wanted to give a shout out to the Costco Optical Dept in Reno. My husband and I had gone thru checkout during executive hour last Friday. We were passing the optical dept and I mentioned to him I someday will check out the Optometry office for an eye check and he said just go and talk to them and make an appt. I walked in and they said how about right now? WTH? So I did. A little paper work and like 2 min and I was in Dr Winkelmans chair. He is an independent practice housed in this Costco. I see a retina specialist for a condition I have so my exam with him was not super comprehensive as I had just seen my retina doctor. I just needed a new prescription just for reading. The downside is he does not accept medicare or prominence..the pro side is the exam was only $119, and took right around 30 minute to complete. Today I was back in Costco to fill the prescription for glasses. There was no one else there, so I got helped right away by Jesse. He helped me with frames that looked good on me. I am a picky gal that likes designer stuff and I immediately gravitated to Cartier. Yep..they were $399! But..I had a rewards certificate from my costco card that covered almost all the cost. I purchased a couple more frames at less$$ and each one after the first got $ 50 off. Plus, prominence paid $200 towards the whole purchase! I am so happy with this dept!!! Customer service is beyond spectacular(thank you Jesse) and the prices are fantastic. Let me talk just a little more about the spendy Cartier frames. I went online OMG..the model # of the ones I purchased is CT03730 burgundy. In looking online..the same frames elsewhere are $895, $704,$981 etc..Damn I have some expensive taste! Not sure how costco can buy and resell these frames for half or more then online companies! I highly recommend this whole optical dept. You do not need a Costco membership to see the doctor but do to purchase frames and glasses. The savings just paid for the cost of membership plus!!! 1 read more

Always get the best selection and help from the staff. They aren't on commission so there is no upsell. They just want you to be happy with your selection. My kids and I have gone to them for over 10 years. We had an issue once with a lens being ground within specifications, but my daughter needed truly precise parameters. Sometimes you have to judge people on how they handle it when they make a mistake. (Maybe it depends a little on the kind of mistake, sure.) But when it's the kind of mistake anyone could make, whether the person owns it or tries to avoid accountability can tell you a lot. Anyway, somebody screwed up by putting a minus sign somewhere where there should have been a plus sign. I'm pretty sure it was the actual DO, not one of the opticians, but it doesn't matter because everyone involved owned it, acknowledged the error, and made fixing it it as easy as possible. My glasses got made wrong because of the honest error. (I've made worse.) Nobody gave me any BS and they fixed it. Refreshing. It's also true that prices and service here are generally very good to excellent. read more

I go here for all my optical options, never at my actual eye dr. Nothing wrong with the eye dr, but here I know my dollar value extends as far as possible and my eye insurance VSR works here too. So often times my contacts get the best value, and when I visited they had a special on glasses, $40 off a pair. I just love the end result. Glasses for computer work, glasses for driving and sunglasses. I know you can get multiple use prescriptions but there is a reason why I wanted the variety and individuality. It's totally up to you! These folks here are experts, you choose the frame, bring in your current Rx, and its an easy process. I would suggest you go in early, right at opening. We have been coming to Costco for frames and lenses for several years now. It was nice several years ago when we were in Disneyland and my daughter lost a contact. We contacted the Costco in Anaheim and they were able to access her prescription and we were able to purchase a set. What a nice benefit. I like the fact that I can receive my order at my mailbox. Believe it or not but Costco has eye glass frames, sunglasses and contacts! They also have deals and specials on them. Costco exclusively offers a variety of contact lens online for members only. They can even ship them to your home. Offering the latest in technology and high definition lenses. There is a large array of frames and sunglasses with brand name designer frames. They offer HD progressive lenses, polarized lenses, transitions photochromic lenses, blue anti reflective treatment, and anti reflective treatment. They can send your new lenses to Costco for you to pick up or directly to your home. They accept most insurances. How awesome is that! All of their opticians are trained and their certification is posted on the wall for all to see. Most Costco's offer a independent Optometrist who can administer your eye exam. You may bring in your current prescription or visit the independent Optometrist inside this store. The Reno Store has an awesome Optometrist. My son had a large array of frames to look at and to choose from. He really wanted the frame he currently has but it is no longer being made. Sad face. However, we were able to find a pair that he liked. Because of an in store deal we got a second frame with transition lenses at $40.00 off. Denise was the optician who helped us. She was kind, friendly, and professional. She informed us of all of our choices and knew the answers to all our questions. I sure hope she gets kudos. read more

The eye department itself just seems all over the place. The eye doctor is constantly understaffed in the office with no front desk to help costumers. The employees working the area where the glasses are always very helpful and nice unfortunately there is poor communication and confusion continuously. read more

Had a scheduled scheduled exam today and was extremely happy with everything. Super clean, fast, and friendly service. The doctor was professional and let me know about issues I had with my insurance, and he worked with me to help get them figured out. My actual appointment was quick and painless, and my contacts are super comfortable. I can't believe how great my vision is with these contacts! I was in and out in less than 30 minutes and I'm so glad I went there instead of my overpriced eye doctor. read more

Did a lot of searching around and I consistently found that Costco had the best prices for the type of contact lenses I wear. I learned over the years to order them well in advance before I run out as the kind I wear are not usually in stock and have to be ordered. That usually takes a few days, and because I don't live in town, it is quite an effort to drive down and get them. But usually that's my cue (I mean excuse) to go spend a few extra bucks in the Costco itself so WIN WIN. read more

A screw fell out of my glasses yesterday and I had to be to work by 10 today. Every other store in town was either closed or didn't open until past 10. Saw they opened at 9:30, went in at around 9:16, and the kind lady at the desk was ready to help right away. Took maybe 10 minutes (they were a little bent) and after they were back together and good as new. Plus it was free! I'd highly recommend here for any glasses needs read more
