Amazing customer service. I've come in countless times as I work nearby, and Dr. Bolenbaker goes above and beyond as a professional. All the employees are kind and cheery. I can only recall Frances but there are two others I have personally met. The receptionist, Amy, is a pleasure to talk to. In one of my recent visits, after my annual checkup, I had considered getting contacts as the glasses fog from masks was quite annoying (not to mention I am always always cleaning them, which is to be expected). I've worn glasses for years. When getting fit for contacts, I struggled quite a bit with my reflexes and started overheating. I have always been extremely twitchy when it comes to my eyes and such, but I nearly fainted after a struggle to get it in my eye. Had to lay on the floor until my vision came back and they brought me water. I was told I have something called Vasovagal Syncope-- I cannot believe I have gone my whole life without knowing this and it explains SO MUCH. Such as being extremely uneasy around the talk of blood or anatomy to the point of almost fainting, struggling very badly with eye drops, makeup, and the air being blown in my eyes, and having trouble getting my blood pressure taken anywhere or dealing with extreme prolonged heat exposure. I thought this was normal and the only reason I am including it in my review is to note how validating it was to finally have an explanation. This store is clean. The bathroom is clean. Their Covid-19 system and policies work well and it's overall a joy to come to. They were also very understanding when I had a pair of sunglasses that kept falling down my nose to no avail-- exchanged for free as a one time courtesy. Sticking with metal frames for sure. I've also purchased a pair of very nice eyeglasses and had née lenses installed in my previous frames. Professionals through and through. Cannot recommend enough. read more

Over priced, poor policies, provided me with prescription that dies not work, condescending doctor, spent $900 here, what a Waste

Overall bad customer service. Have been going here for 2 years now and never have I been treated so badly in the last year. Overbearing messages, and when I have a real-life emergency and needed to reschedule, I was told I must provide a $125 deposit to reschedule. Let's see gas leak in home must vacate and reschedule to wanting money to do so..... NOT HAPPENING. Would think compassion and concern would be at the forefront of this and all I got was attitude and you want money. Will NEVER return to this establishment ever again. Such a disappointment. Not only lost me as a customer but my entire family. Good luck running a business like that. read more

Very disappointed. Yes, I do have some vision issues which require special attention, the attending "dr." assured me he was quite capable of assisting. After 3 "adjustments" to his "prescription" glasses my one eye is still off a bit. The first 2 were on lenses I assured him would not work. The 2nd "prescription" came & I was unable to see most anything. An office assistant put a device on my eyes, had me look into the parking lot to establish I could see for a minute then sent them in for another "adjustment". #3 came, left eye perfect, right eye needed improvement. I called in and an appointment was made for correction. Upon arrival I was advised they were "done" with me, it was my fault, they had provided "correct" prescription. We went back and forth for about 10 minutes. All I requested was they test my eyes with the glasses to establish the lens were correct, maybe the company they sent them to had made a mistake. They said I would need to start all over and pay for a full exam and pay for the next lens correction. They spent more time avoiding a needed re-check than the exam would have taken! After spending $887 here my old glasses from 7 years ago correct better than these new ones. Proceed with caution, there are many highly rated opticians in this city, my retina specialist advised my I picked the wrong optometrist! If you like Overpaying and not being supported go here, if not select an optometrist who will at listen to you and attempt to help or tell you at the beginning that he is not trained to work with you. read more

I brought my 4 year old autistic son there to get his eyes checked. The doctor was very patient and had good techniques on getting my kid to cooperate with the eye exam. The doctor explained everything and in a way that was easy to understand. The staff there were very nice and helpful. They work well with kids. read more

DR is nice staff is rude and condescending. They are not helpful. I needed new contact samples while I waited for my new one. She said there was nothing she could do. I have gotten samples at other places in the past. When I asked for my prescription she said no one in Nevada will fill a year old prescription because it's illegal. That is false the state of Nevada says it's good for 2 years. She tried to scare me into staying at her office for lenses. read more

This is by far the best place to get your annual eye health check in Reno. Dr. Bolenbaker will spend as much time as needed to make sure your prescription is a good fit for you. His office is outfited with the lastest technology to make sure your eyes are healthy and you have crisp clear vision. I am very hard to fit for glasses and contacts, mostly due to a number of surgeries on both eyes, and the fact that I am aging. Every year I go in and I am shocked at how he can really dial it in for me. I have done everything from glasses to custom fit contacts to daily contact from this office and have never once been disappointed in the level of service I get. read more

Great selection on hard to find and unique frames. Full disclosure, I didn't have my eye exam at this particular office. I stopped in after seeing some cool frames in the window as I was running errands at the business next door and am really glad that I did! Mary the sales person helped me immensely and was never pushy in her sales style. I purchased the frames that I fell in love with in the window. A week and a half later they arrived from having the prescription lenses manufactured. Very happy with my experience and they even gave me a box of girl scout cookies with my purchase :) read more

Such genuine kind staff that really care! Visited back in December 30, 2022. I am not from Reno but had a cut on my cornea (which hurts ALOT), I called but realized they closed in 10 minutes when I was 15 minutes away. The receptionist was very patient with me and instead of turning me away, she said she would speak with the Doctor and sure enough they took me in. They empathized with me and examined my eyes. What I liked the most is they connected with me and took their time to educate me on what was going on with my eye. They made sure I understood the next steps I should take and allowed me to ask questions. I have been going to Dr. Bolenbaker for several years now and I have always been extremely pleased with his care and the care from the rest of the office. All of the staff are patient, kind and helpful. Dr. Bolenbaker is attentive and takes special effort to remember you and your past visits. I highly recommend his practice. When I was making this last apt, I was having some scheduling issues due to my schedule at work. They were able to find a way to fit me in and work with my schedule which I greatly appreciated. They spend as much time as needed to help pick out frames and explain the cost break downs and insurance coverage. If there are ever any mistakes or issues with the glasses when they come in, the staff has always been quick to fix it and rush the order. They take great care of their patients. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Bolenbaker and his staff. The receptionist was professional and very sweet (bonus points!). You can tell that Dr. Bolenbaker really cares about his patients, as he's honest and doesn't try to unnecessarily sell you a product. He is quite personable and works quickly with vast knowledge. He addressed all my issues and answered all my questions throughly and honestly. This was my first visit there and I was having some concerns with contact lenses that I got from Costco. Dr. Bolenbaker was very attentive to my eyecare needs. He provided very detailed explanation of my eye health during the exam, and provided different options and recommendations for me to make educated informed decisions on what eyeglasses and/or contacts would best suit my needs. He provides just enough concise eyecare information without it feeling like a sales pitch to get you to buy glasses and/or contacts. He is personable, extremely knowledgeable and on the cutting edge of his profession. I wasn't rushed or had anything less than a thorough, high quality eye exam. Been to 3 other eye docs till I found this place and actually got a prescription that feels right and some answers for my dry eyes. The doc is well informed and nice but it's the front desk ladies that make this place. The ladies are so nice and helpful and there is one girl there named Frances (I think) and she is so over the moon sweet. I came in for my daughters first eye exam. She is 14 months old. It takes some time for the children's dialation drops to work, which I was expecting, but the staff kept us perfectly entertained. It was nice to see a little gold trunk full of toys and books for her to use. While we were waiting, I had my eyewear adjusted, ate their candies and chased my little monster around the office. "No touch!" I would remind her as she carefully placed her fingerprints all over their clean glass. After dialation the exam went quickly and smoothly. I finally admitted to myself that I live in Reno and it was time to find eye care in Reno instead of making that long arduous trip into Sparks once a year (don't judge me!). So I found Visionary Eye Center and I am so pleased that I did! The entire crew here knows their job well and that makes for a very smooth visit. The Doc listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions with no problems. I felt confident that my eyes were in good hands, so to speak. My exam was later in the day which meant it was closer to closing time. Despite this, Dani spent quality time with me while i picked out frames. She never made me feel rushed and gave her honest opinion and what would and wouldn't work for me. She knew the ins and outs of the insurance portion so she was able to let me know exactly what I would be paying out of pocket. Super appreciate the time and effort that this office takes with their patients. If you are looking for personable, quality work then this office is for you. If you are looking for the cheapest frames you can get then you should probably just mosey on over to Lens Crafters or WalMart. I'm actually kind of shocked people have complained about prices in their review. It should be common knowledge that if you go to a privately owned business you will pay more but in exchange you will receive better service. You get what you pay for people! The doctor is excellent and thorough. I was seeing a different doctor and became very uncomfortable with his bedside manners, so to speak, and treatment. My husband started seeing Dr. Bolenbaker and so I scheduled appointment. He explained my eye conditions, causes, possible reasons, and general concern. However, I ordered my glasses over three weeks ago and I still have not gotten them. I've been wearing prescription glass for over 10 years and eligible every year for a new pair. Only one time have I had to wait longer than 7 days to get my glasses. The one wait was 10 days. Understandable. But over three weeks? read more

I am a low vision driver in the Reno area, and I have to say, if if weren't for DR. Bolenbaker, I would still not have my drivers license at almost 21 years old. He made it all possible for me. He knows his stuff and he works hard to make sure every patient has the best outcome possible. I go in for my yearly check ups so that I can be signed off for the dmv for another year and even with my extensive appointments, dr. Bolenbaker and his staff make it all worth whole.
