I've been a Costco customer for over 10 years, and this is one of the most convenient Costco locations inside the Loop. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, including when handling returns, and the store layout is pretty much what you'd expect from any Costco in the U.S. In addition to the outdoor lot, there's also a multi-level covered parking garage, which is great during Houston heat or rain. The only downside is the parking lot design near the entrance, where cars and pedestrians constantly cross paths, making traffic flow pretty slow during busy times. I do recommend avoiding the gas station here. Gas prices are noticeably higher than the Costco locations on Bunker Hill and Sugar Land. For example, currently premium is $4.69/gal here where at Sugar Land it's $4.24/gal. YIKES!!!! The gas area is also very cramped with long lines that spill into the parking lot. Thankfully, the self-checkout lanes inside make regular shopping trips quick and convenient if you're only buying a few items. I'd also recommend avoiding this location on weekends or around 5-6 p.m. on weekdays when people are getting off work, because the crowds and parking lot traffic can become pretty chaotic. Overall, this is still a great Costco location because of the convenient Inner Loop location, friendly staff, and covered parking. read more

The year of the horse by: Ciel Bleu. Which was no good. I would never buy that again. Returning it here. Was a bit of a challenge. First guy was unsure, after stirring the bottle in circles and got Ashley which was the same result saying it had to be half (Which it was). She called for someone else to come stir it and peek her eye ball's in the hole. the lady approached with her name badge flipped over and told me it usually have to be half to return which it is. She says it's not. I offer to pour it out fill it up to determine the half. She asked, what was the reason? when did I discover I didn't like it after one or two glasses? (Argumentative much?) It was only one glass. If I liked it I wouldn't be returning it. Then she says she's going to refund me on a shop card. No. You can return it on my card (as how I paid) She repeated she'll place it back on a shop card. No. I paid with my Costco cc, matter of fact I reported it, so I'll accept cash Again she asked for another Visa card. Are you capable of providing cash?? Cash returned in hand. No issues when returning botched items either (like grapes that went bad on day 2). Sure, the parking lot can get crazy during peak hours... but which Costco doesn't? There have always been shopping carts available as well (which you have to sometimes wait for at other locations!). Tips: Turn your items so that the barcode is visible for a speedier checkout! And if you're trying to use your FSA for anything, you'll need to stand in the pharmacy line since you can't use it at standard checkouts. I love exploring the nearest Costco whenever I'm in a different town. While their stock is mostly same, they carry different items and it's almost like a treasure hunt for me:) This location has a separate liquor section and there were a lot of items I hadn't seen before like the liquid oasis inflatable lounge, beef loin New York shabu shabu, palm trees, $1.97 something special red pepper spread, 36 count quail eggs, mango rasmalai, cooked octopus, roasted salmon bites, braised abalone, gochujang spam!, shrimp crackers, 9 ounce bags of ginseng root slices for $74.99, jakoya balls, and Asian rice crackers. So much cool stuff! Really wanted to get the shabu shabu and quail eggs but unfortunately there was no way to transport them out of state. On a recent visit I went in, as usual, I found the items I needed, waited in a long line to checkout only to get to the front and attempt to pay using the linked Citi Costco credit card, to which they were having trouble with all Citi Costco payments. Funny, since Citi is the branded credit card. They tried to force me to use another payment form, which I refused. What is the purpose of the stupid credit card. The bigger issue for me is they refused to do anything about it. Just sorry. There wasn't even an announcent made to guests, there was no awareness for members entering the store of the issue. It's a Costco. Service and offerings usually much better than other grocery retailers in Houston and other cities, especially for the value. I understand Yelpers have placed this branch at sub-4 stars, but, most reviewers in general tend to post about their worst experiences with a product or service. This specific Costco on Richmond Ave is consistent with their quality product offerings and has a kind pharmacy staff - which I'm happy with, but not enough to compel a Yelp review. However, the other day, I dropped my new wallet (an expensive graduation impulse buy to myself), in the Costco parking lot. And it was returned promptly to Lost & Found by a parking lot attendant. I am extremely grateful for this and have been reminded that there are honest people out there. Gold standard customer service to the gentlemen and all the staff that kept my belongings safe. Convenient location. I don't know what to say that hasn't been said. If you know you know. If you don't, where have you been? Good deals on quality food, clothes, houseware and electronics. They have been more aggressively checking memberships even for the food court. I'm not ashamed that I'm of the age that I buy clothes and luggage where I buy my household goods and food. Parking is sometimes a challenge. If at all possible go during the week and try to avoid the weekend crowd. The second floor in the garage is fairly open, in the shade and not that bad even with the slow elevator. The gas lines aren't worth it to me unless it's under 15min. Weekdays usually, not on the weekends. It does stay open 30min after the warehouse closes though. The nitrogen air refilling spots are a lesser known membership benefit. The new chocolate chip cookie is ginormous and delicious. The new strawberry Sunday is a great deal with large chucks of frozen strawberries and your choice of strawberry soft serve or a swirl of vanilla and strawberry soft serve. The mango smoothie and roast beef sand which are a pass for me. read more

So I find myself at this Costco on a weekly basis because my gym is also right upstairs. Its a pretty large Costco and can get pretty busy. There've been times when I came by and all the carts were taken so weekend Costco shoppers, be warned. Staff has always been helpful when I needed help. For the most part, you just do your own thing but when I needed help getting a sofa, we had someone help us load it onto the cart and then subsequently load it onto our rental truck. Cashiers are always nice too and the lines go fairly quick. As far as value, its a Costco so overall pretty great value but you will get a lot of anything you buy. Its great for nonperishables and they're usually good at keeping up stock (outside of sudden, unexpected rushes like a looming hurricane). read more

Its selection is constantly changing so you can rely on your staples being there but also be surprised by new additions. The workers are friendly and very helpful in making your shopping trip as efficient as possible. Since this location is the only one in the inner loop, it can get quite crowded. Go during the morning if possible to avoid the rush! It's not the best, but for the price it cannot be beaten. It's also worth mentioning that if you get their executive membership, if you do what everyone else does and spend way too much money there, the 2% reimbursement ends up covering the membership fee and then some. What's the point of Costco on Richmond Ave even having a phone number if there's no one there to answer a call? The product isles have no descriptions, only numbers. That makes it more difficult to locate what you're shopping for. Online searches for product availability and prices are worthless with few if any matches. Try searching for car batteries! You can't search by size or type, only for your specific vehicle. Does Costco even sell commercial truck batteries (31C's)? I don't know. But Sam's does, which is where I bought mine. This store is pure hell on weekends. Parking is a nightmare. Customers leave their empty carts all over the parking lot. The checkout lines are so long that frustrated customers just leave their full carts unpurchased. As they pile up, this ultimately blocks the entrance to the pharmacy section. Costco is, to me, a story of compromise. Get a competitive price on some products -- for me, it's gas, appliances, and Waterloo sparking water. Pay the price with a terrible parking lot, mall kiosk-level salespeople in the store, family feuds over buying too much oatmeal, and wild checkout lines. The shining light for me has always been the Costco pizza. Their pepperoni has always been a great friend. When I was a classroom teacher, I had to pinch pennies but every once in a while I could splurge on Jack in the Box 2/$1 tacos or a slice of Costco pepperoni. Nowadays, I don't have to check my bank account before tapping to pay the $2 for a slice of Costco pepperoni. But I do feel like something is missing. During my last few visits, the pizza has been a lot doughier and without the streaks of grease and pepperoni pools of grease that made it so irresistible. Lately, it's just very dull pizza. As a lifelong fanboy of Costco / all things Kirkland, I don't think I can give most Costcos anything less than 4 stars. For this location within the loop, it is among the busiest throughout Houston. I certainly don't make it easier for them given how often I'm here (#1) but here are my thoughts in asterisks: * Some of the cheapest gas throughout HTown is at their gasoline station (#2). Their hours of operation is typically from 6AM-9PM, which is both earlier and later than the store hours. * As noted, it's crowded here pretty often. The weekends can be pure chaos, so I'd recommend going mid-week during the afternoon to avoid some serious congestion. * Lots of people makes for harder parking. I would also add that the lot is big, but not typical Costco big. There are lines that bleed from the gas station to the parking lot and the adjacent parking complex doens't make things easier. Just going through the parking aisles looking for spots is a serious chore and the spaces are on the tighter side. * The building is not dedicated solely to Costco, but also features an LA Fitness and a number of other smaller bizes around the corner. * Popular items (deals, things in demand, etc.) are often sold out here. When in doubt, try to see if they'll hold an item at other Costcos. * Membership services is one area that they shine in. Costco gas station has been really clutch. Lots of lanes and even when there are long lanes (which there frequently are), they usually move pretty fast. They also have long cords, so it can reach over to the other side of your car, so you can really get in any lane/shortest lane. I also really like this Costco location. They do a good job of keeping things stocked. The only thing I will say, and it may not even be their fault, is that I wish they were able to get some items faster. I've noticed that other Costcos will get new inventory and then it may take several weeks to show up at this Costco. Nevertheless, I am a frequency Costco shopper. I'm a sucker for their food court, and as I'm leaving, I ALWAYS get the hotdog and drink for $1.50. It's been the same price for decades and I love them for that. Now that I'm a new mom, you can't beat the price for their diapers. My other go to is their name brand bottled water. You can beat their price! Another star knocked off. So the tire air station doesn't actually open until the main store opens. Don't be fooled by the fact that the machine is on and you can set the pressure and it makes noise. If you put the nozzle in your tire it will actually deflate it. I went from 32 to 24 on one tire. 31 to 27 on the next. And 32 to 29 on the third. The last one I decided not to touch because I sensed this was futile, so it stayed at 32. Another customer there told me the same thing happened to her and that it deflated her tire. Signage Costco. I love shopping at most Costco and tend to get food and drinks from Costco when I visit but this location has a rude young boy with horrible customer service. Haven't seen this kind of behavior at the bunker hill or Sugarland or Katy location. Food employee/ that specific guy needs some kind of training. He seem like he wasn't nice to his coworkers either and another female staff seem to be very nervous/ gave fearful vibes when he was next to her. Team members should be helpful and supportive of each other. Most importantly young store employees should not have attitudes and rudeness to their older customers.
