After having been in the hospital for 20+ days, my hair (waist length) was matted beyond help. The small amount we had managed to comb out took several hours. My daughter set up an appointment with this location for a cut, even a complete shave if needed. Upon arrival we were greeted by Sophia. We explained the situation and she got to work. She was determined to save as much as she could and took the time to work through it. It didn't need to be shaved! An hour and half later, I walked out with a new style (modified bob)! As she worked, we chatted and she commented about the variety of clientele that she had worked with and their stories. It seemed there were several that were in similar situations to mine or worse. I can tell you the reason we all ended up working with Sophia is because she is kind, respectful, and dedicated to her craft. While this appears to be a standard cookie cutter Cost Cutters franchise on the outside, it has some incredible stylists inside that make it anything but cookie cutter. Tara was incredible and took the time to talk with me and make sure she understood exactly what type of haircut I was looking for, and delivered just that. She also used a great tea tree oil conditioning spray which smelled great. (Make sure to ask for this!) The online check-in process was seamless and helped me get right in without delay. I was in dire need of a neck trimming and lineup. My regular barber was on vacation. Brianna, a personable and talented stylist hooked me up. The entire ordeal was fast and painless; and, I was very pleased with the end result. I later brought a friend in to have his hair cut. She did an excellent job there, too. Hair stylist Lindsey was amazing! I went into cost cutters to get my first ever perm. I have naturally curly hair. I wasn't sure my hair would hold a perm. Lindsey asked me questions and I showed her photographs of what I wanted my hair to look like. She expertly washed and prepared my hair. She gently rolled my hair into the tiniest little perm rods. It took a long time and she was so patient and very professional. Every stylist in the salon was attentive to their customers and appropriately friendly. I was in the salon for 3 hours and I was able to experience how wonderful everyone interacted. Lindsey finished my hair and I was absolutely pleasantly shocked by how amazingly well the perm had taken to my hair. It looked wonderful beyond my expectations! I am so so pleased by the results, the professionalism and the quality of the products. I'm still on cloud nine and can't stop admiring the lovely end result to my super tight perm. new to the area and thought I'd give them a try !! Well not real impressed !! I'm 68 and retired !! nothing fancy on my haircut just 3 on the sides and even up the top short so it just lays down . Had my old barber who spent probably twice the amount of time making sure it was perfect and also trimmed my ears,eye brows,neck and finished with a neck shave for only 20 bucks !! I had to ask if they could trim eye brows and just figured I'm not going to ask for anything else she was wrapping up like she was done !! On occasion, I prefer this one night stand version of haircuts - because you don't have any kind of relationship (nor do you intend to build one) you can tell them just how you like it - no talking, lights on, no false promises. I've never had to wait here, I've always breezed right in and breezed right back out again. Note to the Atkins crowd though - the delicious smells of bread baking leak over from the Subway next door. It's only a matter of time before this place gets shutdown. I walk in to get a quick fade at 3:50PM on a Monday. As soon as I go to sit down and wait, I'm immediately told by a man with long-gray hair that there will be a 45-minute wait, yet there wasn't a single person waiting in line. The whole place was empty except for the one lady that was in the middle of getting her hair cut by him. I asked why the wait was so long and he said it's because he's the only one working. 3:50PM on a Monday and Cost Cutters only has one employee working? Also, if you have one employee working, wouldn't you think that spending 45+ minutes on one person is incredibly foolish? This was the second time in a week that I've left because of ridiculous wait times. If it wasn't such a short walk from my house, I'd probably never go back. read more

The staff are friendly and competent. The cuts are cheap. You get what you ask for. Their hair products are reasonably priced and I like the tea tree line of products. I get my haircut here at least once a month and have not been disappointed. Some people complain that the old bloke who cuts hair smells of cigarettes. Yes he does but he is also a hoot and you are always welcome to ask someone else to cut your hair. The scissor cuts are very good value. read more

I loved it! Lindsey cut my hair, I gave very vague directions because I wasnt sure how to fix it. She gave me a fabulous cut. Yes they were a bit busy however, I never felt like she was rushing my service. The other girl who was working, Veronica, was very friendly and outgoing. This salon gave me just what I needed right when I needed it. I went in around 10:30 am on a Friday as a walk-in and just needed a quick trim. I ended up getting a shampoo and trim for less that $30 with tip. And my hair turned out GREAT! My stylist was so nice and checked with me a few times before she made cuts to ensure she wasn't going shorter than I wanted. She also didn't try to sell me on any additional services or products, like many salons do. I was also in and out in around 30 minutes (maybe less). My hair feels so much healthier and it looks great. I will be back! read more

WORST HAIRCUT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! I don't understand why they're getting the Yelp rating that they are receiving after looking at other people's reviews as well as my own (as most of them are one star). It's been approximately three and a half months since I had my haircut at the Cost Cutters on Alameda and Broadway. I had an older fella (John?) with long gray hair as my barber or hairdresser. I asked him to give me a short conservative look. I should have been concerned when he turned my chair facing away from the mirror. He spent approximately 10 to 12 minutes working on my hair and turned me around and I was shocked. He had scalped to me leaving gaps and long uneven strands of hair all over the top my head. I didn't know what to do. I got up left the salon in shock. I would not advise anyone to use this Cost Cutters and stay away from the fellow with a long gray hair. I usually try not to write negative Yelp reviews, but after reflecting on this for three and a half months of waiting for my hair to grow out, I thought other people deserve at least a little "heads up" on their hair cutting selection. read more

They've lost my business for good, and this is after two years of giving me mostly what I needed (an okay haircut at an okay price). I went back for a touch up after the tall older man (who smelled like stale cigarettes, another complaint) gave my a lopsided cut with some bushy spots. The stylist agreed that it was uneven and did a nice job evening it out. Then she asked when I'd had it done. It turned out that it had been 8 days ago, one day beyond the 7-day touch-up policy's limit. Fine. But had I known that a free touch-up wasn't an option before sitting down, I never would have had her pick up the scissors. So they nailed me for fifteen dollars for the second time in a little over a week, and I walked out for the last time. There are plenty of okay haircuts at okay prices in town, and I'll save my money for people who do better business than that. read more

I had a great experience at this shop. There were a couple of other people ahead of me but didn't have to wait any longer than 15 minutes to get into the chair. The stylist was a nice guy and did a great job on my hair. Plus I thought it was hilarious that he looked like Keith Richards so now I can tell everyone I had my hair cut by one of the Rolling Stones. Definitely would recommend and have to my friends even if just to get a hair cut from Keith Richards! read more
