One of the most odd dining experiences ever. My friend and I went during DRW, which is an excellent way to try new restaurants. We were seated at a booth in the 44' long corridor. We must have been near the restrooms because the scent of air freshener was overpowering (we eventually had to move to a table outside). The menu listed on the DRW website listed an appetizer, entree and a dessert. As soon as we were seated, the hostess informed us that we would have to share dessert, Really? I'd sooner share one of my kids, than share dessert! Um, why wasn't this mentioned on the DRW website? And isn't there some sort of DRW rule that you have to serve three courses as part of the deal? But whatever. i was there to eat, not argue.
I had the bakes brie and pancetta potato skins as my appetizer. OMG - so yummy. A little skimpy on the pancetta and brie, but still amazing. My friend and I both ordered the filet as an entree. My friend's filet was thick and round nd beautiful - just like a filet should look. My filet was skinny and triangular. It was so weird looking I took a photo of it, while laughing. It was, as you can imagine, overcooked. The potato side was their riff on a tater tot and they were wonderful, crunchy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside. Yes, I really like potatoes. :)
Our waitress asked how the meal was going and I told her I thought the difference in the size and quality of our filets was odd, but no big deal. She insisted on getting the manager. That's when things really got interesting. I explained to him that I thought the difference in the cut of the filets was weird, but didn't want anything else, that it was fine. He kept asking me how he could improve our experience and I kept telling him it was fine. Finally, I told him that I thought sharing a dessert wasn't mentioned on the DRW website, so maybe he could correct that so one knows what to expect. That's when he started yelling at me. On the patio. In public. He told the website was wrong (for over a month? really?). He yelled that some people just can't be happy, presumably me. He also yelled that my friend and I should have made two reservations so we would each get a dessert. By this time, I was laughing out loud and told him that was too much deception and math for my brain to handle. This really got him steaming. He continued to berate me, claiming I just didn't want to be happy, no matter what, and then stormed off.
Our waitress came out soon thereafter and didn't seem fazed by the manager's behavior. I can only imagine what it is like to work for someone like that so I left her a very nice tip.
So the food was mostly good, and when it was good, it was verry good. The service was also good. Management needs an anger management course and medication. read more
