If this review was strictly for the champagne and lovely and charming interior, I'd give it 5 Stars. However, the 3 Star rating is for the service.
We arrived in the Larimer Square far earlier than anticipated. http://static.px.yelp.com/photo/XoXMsSRtZVMiDVcDIO5RiQ/l
This area totally reminded me of San Diego's downtown Gas Lamp district, which is an area that I really enjoy visiting. Anywho, we were early for our dinner ressies next door at Rioja, so decided to pop in at Corridor 44 for a pre-dinner cocktail. From the moment I walked in, I fell in love with this place. It was dimly lit, with glass chandeliers, lamps above the bar, and striped wall paper. http://static.px.yelp.com/photo/cRij9215tfbhiLdHmcdUWg/l
Booths aligned the wall across from the bar. The furniture seemed to have a modern flair, but still managed to add to the classic and sophisticated interior. Towards the back of the bar, there was a group of gals, and looked like they were having a blast. At that point, I missed and totally wished my gal pals were with Dalane and I, since I know they'd enjoy the ambiance as much as we both did.
It was pretty crowded since it was a Saturday night, so we waited awhile on one side of the bar to get a bartender's attention, and decided to see if service was better on the other end. Still ended up waiting a long time to finally get a bartender to give us a drink menu. Our gal bartender wasn't smiling, nor friendly, and knew a drink decision had to be made asap. We didn't know if another 10+ minutes would pass before our drink order was to be taken.
Drink menu had a vast champagne selection by the glass, like Gloria Ferrer, Mumm, Moet, and other French, American, and even Spanish champagnes and cavas. If we had more time to spare and really wanted to splurge, we would've ordered a bottle of Veuve Cliquot or even Dom (JK, yah, right!!!!) Since we didn't have the time nor the money, we settled for respective glasses of Mumm and Gloria Ferrer, and surprisingly the bartender served it to us faster than anticipated. This was an instance of how it can be good to have low expectations (which is bad, I know). We totally enjoyed our glasses of bubbly, and decided to close out, which (surprise!) took awhile to get our bartender's attention. She didn't even look at us upon giving us the bill, and when Dalane asked her a question, she totally ignored her. Hmmph!
If I'm in the Denver area again, I would definitely return to Corridor 44 with more friends and to try the food. Hopefully, the service would be vastly different from my first experience. read more
