The food itself was pretty good and our waiter was nice but we should have sat outside. The bartenders and their friends made it impossible to hear any conversation going on at our table. They were either yelling at each other, laughing extremely loud at anything/everything that was said at the bar, or singing very loudly to every song. When some of their friends came in it got worse. We literally sat at our table, ate, and pretty much stared at each other because no conversation could be heard. Looked at other patrons and same thing was happening at their tables. Would not recommend anyone come here. The regular staff is nice and helpful, but the bar staff are loud, obnoxious, and outright insane. The people at the bar seemed like they had their own drinks. At our table, we could not hear each other because the bar staff was either yelling, singing, or juggling. The food was also not good and extremely expensive. The chip platter was tasteless and all chicken dishes tasted frozen and rubbery. Food pretty good. Aside from cold flour tortillas on side but never going back because of tourist upsell. I asked if my son could have the kids' meal of chicken cheese tacos with a bit of black beans. 2 small flour tortillas was $11 instead of $7. No sides for the kids. Just 2 small tacos. Got the chips sampler for $12 and got small sides of guac, salsa, and queso like between Chipotle small and large size. Asked for more guac and chips and $8 more. Got nickel and dimed as a tourist so not going back any of the 2 weeks a year I go to Corolla. On the bright side the $20 tuna tacos with black beans and coconut rice was good. Great option for Mexican in Corolla! The Island Time sandwich was great (could use bbq sauce to go with it). Kids options are really fantastic too -- Mexican and non-Mexican items for them. My kids liked the quesadilla and chicken fingers. If you're looking for take out, this is a great choice! Just call ahead or it'll get busy. read more

Very good lunch, great, friendly service especially on a busy Saturday. They sat our group of 9 quickly and drinks & food came out fast. I had the special which was a Bang, Bang Shrimp wrap and it was amazing. Also had the drink special which was watermelon margarita which was also delicious but cost $14 and was not real big! This was the most AMAZING place to eat at. My entire family fell in love. Definitely the best fish tacos we have ever had. We came 2 days in a row and wish we could take this place back home with us! Having been to this place since it opened several years ago, we decided to see how the "new" ownership was handling it. We came in to get some queso for our evening meal at home. We walked in and had several ladies just looking at us. We asked for some queso to go and they looked like we were aliens. They had no clue how to price or even have a to go container. We sadly settled in 2 20ounce cups. As we watched the cook scoop out to cups from a bucket (not homemade at all) the girl told us that would be $42.50. I about died. I told them no way I was paying 43 bucks for cheese. (FYI Moe's sells it wayyy cheaper) Angered and annoyed I just agreed to pay 20 bucks which is seriously crazy. We left as the one girl told us everything is better now that it's under new management. A yearly tradition of over 30 years going to the OBX, I highly doubt this will ever be in our stops again. Sadly they forgot the number one rule in business. One bad experience is told to 50 friends and one good experience is told to three friends. Do not recommend!!! A large group of us went into this restaurant and understood the 35-45 minute wait... But it turned into 1.5 hours and 2 families being served before us. While waiting we ordered drinks (took at least 20 minutes to start and make) and got chips. Patiently waiting, we watched other groups get served and then saw another family get yelled at by the waitress for being upset for the wait time. After them yelling at another woman, we left the restaurant ourselves, took our name off the list and left to uncle Ike's next door (amazing food by the way) and got chased down the street by the "bartender" accusing us of stealing glasses. Recommend not going there if you don't want to watch stressed out staff work a restaurant they do not know how to run. "Be kind and unwind" is not what you can do here. Get a full time bartender and train your staff to work under pressure PS. We left the plastic cup you screamed at us and chased us for for outside. read more

This place was amazing! The service was wonderful! We had a party of 13 and we were served with drinks and food within 25 minutes for everyone. The staff was wonderful and the owner was very nice. Ah, the corolla cantina. I frequent this place each year I come to the obx, but never quite get around to writing a review. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was very average, but it wasn't bad. It was honestly hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars, but the homemade sweet tea and their queso dip ended up pushing my rating up. We didn't set the bar too high coming here after reading other reviews. The menu lacks options, the food is pricey and very basic. If you are looking for a quick bite, like chicken fingers or fish and chips, this might work for you. However, keep your head down and try not to annoy the waitress because she clearly was not happy with our bothersome requests to do things like order food and drinks. If the food was stellar, I could look past a cranky server (see Seinfeld Soup Nazi), but it just added insult to injury in this case. Maybe she was just having a bad day? The other girl working made several rude comments to our family and made everyone around us uncomfortable. Eating the entire meal without anything to drink truly ruined our experience. My mom and I went here for a late lunch of Saturday. Though they had an amazing looking patio area, the inside seemed a little run down and in need of a refresh. When we were seated, our waitress was very attentive. She made sure we had everything we needed at all times. The menu was definitely overpriced, but you come to accept those things in a touristy area. I will say, the one thing that annoyed me was menu seemed to be mislabeled. I ordered a fish "burrito," but it was definitely more of a warm wrap than a burrito. It was still good, but different than what I was expecting. The coconut rice that came with it was good flavored but undercooked. Overall, I'd probably skip it. read more

This place isn't that great. Based on my experience , the service was pretty lame and the food wasn't impressive or creative. Yeah our waitress was friendly, but she lacked hospitality. If there are leftover dishes from appetizers just sitting on the table & the server has came by several times - the table should be cleared off. Aren't nachos supposed to be topped with melted cheese? Not cold cheese just sprinkled on top? Was disappointed. I am not personally a soda drinker, but someone at the table asked for a Diet Pepsi & there were no other diet options. Very overpriced and the experience was not worth the money. First issue, mandatory 20% tip for a party of six or more, so the waitress paid little to no attention to us because she was guaranteed at least a $50 tip. We were there for dinner and the portions served were lunch sized. Coconut chicken was clearly over cooked and tough to chew. The Mahi fish tacos were very dry and served with a garnish amount of slaw. My brother-in-law ordered a rice bowl and it literally looked like they forgot to finish filling the bowl. So I would like to start off by clarifying these three stars are only for the food. The food was absolutely incredible! It was given to us in a timely manner, great presentation and lots of flavor! HOWEVER, when my best friend and I walked into the restaurant, the staff didn't even acknowledge us. We walked into the restaurant and two separate employees didn't look good I didn't say hello, did not greet us. They didn't even smile at us. If anything they looked at us with very judging looks, and looked as though they wanted to turn us away. When we finally got seated our waitress was not a conversationalist at all.
