One of the best old fashions I have had in a long time. Perfect blend of bourbon and orange
Dan S.

This was my first time back since the restaurant reopened. We stopped in very early to give it a try. The service was good and I had frankly one of the best old fashions I have had in a long time. It's tough to describe the ambiance because we were silly early and had the place pretty much to ourselves. We ordered three small plates. The shrimp and grits were tasty but the shrimp was over cooked. The poutine was a very different take; the cheese curds were tempura coated deep fried and very tasty. Fries were good and the gravy was served on the side. The charcuterie board was a disappointment-extremely basic. Overall I'm giving it a B, if I had spent $150 on a full meal, I'm sorry but I would be disappointed. Three small plates and three cocktails came out to around $80. I will give them another try but they are a long way off from the old owners in quality.

Short rib with mashed potatoes

Ambiance: this place is located on a cute old street with other local shops. I was lucky enough to find street parking. They had signs that said they validated parking tickets as well. Inside is very nice and cozy. It's a good place for special occasions or catching up with friends. Food: My server recommended the ribeye, seafood bucatini, or the short rib. I ordered the pierogi potstickers appetizer, which was my favorite! They were nice and crispy on the outside and cheesy on the inside. The crème fraiche added a subtle cream flavor. The short rib was very tender. The red wine sauce complimented the mashed potatoes and meat. Service: service was fairly quick and staff were friendly. I came before the dinner rush so not jammed packed.

My wife walked in and were intrigued by the eclectic and trendy atmosphere. There was a memorial going on outside regarding the 2019 shooting. That said, my wife and I truly enjoyed our visit to the corner kitchen as it was Sunday they only offered a brunch menu. We sat at the bar, Robbie was our bartender and server doing an excellent job at both! Thank you, Robbie! We started off with two different types of old fashions, a regular and a coffee infused. Must say those beverages were absolute delicious! For our main meals, I decided to go for their steak and eggs and my wife, steak and frits. Our steaks were perfectly cooked. Need only slight seasoning. Truly delicious. We decided on the hummingbird cake for dessert, the cake was extremely delicious!

Went here for brunch on a Sunday. The place was not super busy. The service was good. We got the sweet potato donuts and Brussel sprouts as our appetizers. Both were delicious. Especially the chocolate ganache and spicy honey were wonderful. The red pepper pasta with tempura mushrooms was very good. (* I am not a fan of mushrooms). The shrimp and grits was on point with creamy grits and tasty shrimp.

Blueberry salad with garlic shrimp

In town for a wedding and went to corner kitchen for an early dinner. The ambience is nice here, feels fancy but is certainly more casual. We were seated in a large corner table booth, very spacious for 7 of us. Drinks - spicy margaritas, pink promise, country grammar, and old fashion all great! The entire cocktail menu looked awesome in general. Food - get the brussel sprouts! They were SO delicious! The blueberry salad with garlic shrimp was also really good (and huge!). We also got the short ribs, filet, pork chops, and salmon. Everything was really good and cooked perfectly. We skipped out on dessert but it looked awesome too!

Parking is scarce so get here when they open to find a good space. Good music, great food and service. I ordered the half roasted chicken which was yummy and the other guests ordered the grilled salmon which was huge and I was a little jealous of. The fries are great along with the focaccia bread appetizer with the balsamic chili oil that comes with it. You'll spend a pretty penny but when the food and service is so good who cares. Went here for a mini family reunion and everyone was pleased and satisfied! I'd recommend it to anyone in Dayton and beyond.

Grilled cheese with breakfast potatoes

Ah Corner Kitchen! It's a very unassuming restaurant from the outside. I honestly didn't know where the entrance was, but since my friend had been before, she led us to a random door that looked to lead into a warehouse. I was wrong, of course. The restaurant had white table clothes, with the tables already set with utensils. Salad forks, butter knives, a folded napkin. But not all the food is fancy. There's a bar you can sit at with huge TVs showing the games. On a Saturday midday, I expected more people to be dining in for brunch. Only one group inside and outside. We sat inside. We ordered the mimosa flight. Refreshing! They gave us 3 glasses, one with oj, another with grapefruit juice, and the other with pineapple juice. A bit messy when pouring into the wine glass. Kinda wish they had given us small pitchers, not regular glasses to pour out the juice. The flight came with a bottle of champagne for the table. Fabulous! The most stand out was the pineapple juice. It was the most unique and flavorful with the champagne. The brunch menu isn't large. The usual fair. I had already eaten breakfast so I opted for the grilled cheese and breakfast potatoes. The grilled cheese had cheddar and provolone and some kind of sauce. It was very very delicious and didn't give me a stomach ache, since I usually have issues with dairy. My table mates both got the brussel sprouts with potatoes. It came with 2 poached eggs. Can't lie. The potatoes were the star of the show on each of our plates. Seasoned well and cooked with peppers and onions. It was colorful. More patrons came in to dine as we sat, but it never got the busy. Everyone must've been at the game at the ballpark.

Strange Decor

Corner kitchen just recently reopened. It's got new decorations and I think it was trying to modernize. I personally thought some of the decorations were weird like the Joker portrait. There's also ben franklin's eyes, anthropomorphic animals, and Darth Vader. Please see the attached photo. Anyways, onto the food. I got a seat at the bar with no wait on a Friday. The staff was really friendly. I ordered the harissa linguini noodles. For some reason they gave me a spoon with the linguini. Also I didn't get the rolled napkin with the food. There was also arugula that was sautéed, though there was not that much. Perhaps there could be more. It's hard to judge this because you are supposed to get this with the fried oyster mushrooms, and I didn't get the mushrooms because I don't like mushrooms. The sauce was pretty good. It was mildly spicy. It had some coriander and black pepper which was good. Maybe it could of been creamier, but again, very hard to judge because I didn't get the whole dish. The deviled eggs were amazing. There was pickled carrot, radish (or onion?) , and jalapeño. There were microgreens and cilantro. The sauce was some kind of vinegar Worchestershire/soy sauce thing. I asked the waiter what it was and they said it was a balsamic reduction... I do not think that was accurate because it had a salty/umami taste. The vinegary vegetables, herbs, creamy egg, and salty/umami sauce was a really great combination. Overall I thought it was pretty good. The rest of the menu is a little expensive.

Yes, I do recommend Corner Kitchen!!! Went for a Saturday brunch and I have no regrets! It's such a cute corner location, you walk in and are immediately greeted. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. It wasn't super crowded so we would've been seated either way. The food. Omg. I love a smaller menu , that way you know the food they serve are specialty meals. We couldn't decide so we did family style. We started with the donut holes, and filled our bellies with the veggie frittata, stuffed French toast and cheesy grits. Cannot say enough about how flavorful each bite was!!

Editing for the new Corner Kitchen: I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner on a Sunday. They were very busy! I barely remember what the original place looked like, so I'm not comparing it to the old restaurant. The decor is odd, as many have already stated. The pictures they have up are all random, and don't fit together in the slightest: Marilyn Monroe, Joker, and a ballerina or something - I don't remember. Looks like they bought the pictures from TJ Maxx. The TVs placed over top of the bar are useless if you ask me. The patrons sitting at the bar had a hard time seeing it, because it's like directly over the seats instead of back towards the wall. And one TV is facing a part of the regular dining room, that clearly nobody is going to watch (in a fine dining restaurant at a candlelight table). Tables are also very tight together where we sat. Some people requested not to be seated there. Now onto service and food. Our server was nice, no complaints. We also interacted with two managers, who were super friendly and accommodating. They seemed to be working very hard to keep things going smoothly! We had Brussels sprouts, the chicken dinner, and the filet. The Brussels were good! They were crispy and topped well with seasoning and stuff. Would order them again. The chicken was also good. Cooked well and fell off the bone easily. The cauliflower and whatever sausage-like stuffing that it was served with was ok. I would not order it again unless I got different sides. The filet was cooked really well and seasoned nicely. We also liked the peppercorn and chimi churri sauces. The cocktails were good. Our biggest hang up is the pricing. The filet was $40 and only served with a small salad (and nasty dressing). I know steak places often have high prices for meat, but for $40 it should come with a more substantial side than a tiny salad. Also, that was the cheap steak. The others were like $70 (and still only served with salad). Overall the food was good and service was friendly. We will go back, just not every often since you can easily drop $150-200 on cocktails and dinner for 2.

Deviled eggs and Bee Sting.

Ok so the last review I gave was glowing for every aspect. This one is opposite. From seating a wheelchair user at a booth in a cramped corner to bad food that took nearly an hour to get food it was all just not good. Candles at table that smell so you can't enjoy food. No one from staff holding doors as you leave even though they were standing there or even thanking you for coming in. The entire experience was 100% different from the last time. We had one good meal, Steal Frites.

Really enjoyed the meal and our server. The space is a bit strange in concept, but still a lovely experience. I would recommend.
