Great place in downtown Centerville! I had no idea they were there, but I'm glad we found them. Inside is beautiful and decorated nicely. It looks like a great date night or girls night out place for sure. Our waitress, Chelsea, was phenomenal all night. We loved their seasonal cocktail selection. The Naughty Nutcracker was yummy. Food came out quickly. Everything we had was delicious. Their menu items were fun, such as the fry flight or the deviled egg flight. We wanted a light dinner, so decided to finally check out Meridien, since we had heard they specialize in small plates. The restaurant is bright with what I would describe as upscale retro furniture. Our server was cheerful and did an excellent job answering any questions and checking in on us. Unfortunately, she did have the job of letting us know that one out of a few specials was unavailable and two out of three desserts were unavailable as well. Early on a Saturday evening, that shouldn't happen. To start, we split their flight of french fries, which was a quite large serving of your choice of 3 flavors. We liked the lemon parmesan the best of the three we ordered, The rosemary & sea salt and the sage were indistinguishable, the could have used more herbs on both. We just had our second visit to Meridien. It was even better than the first. It's just a great place to have a few cocktails and small plates. The service is great as well. We shared the grilled Caesar, eggplant dip, chicken tenders, lemon Parmesan fries and dessert. All of it was good. The eggplant dip was fantastic. The baklava cheese cake was the best cheese cake I have ever eaten. Meridien is such a great addition to uptown. read more

Occasionally I like to take late night drives here and there in the greater Cincinnati area, and I decided to drive from Cincinnati up to South Dayton, which was my old stomping grounds, and I ended up at Meridien in Centerville. This cocktail bar was definitely somewhat quaint, and a little bit brighter inside than what we expected. The lights weren't bright, but they weren't dim either; rather the type of lights that they turn on when it's the last call for alcohol at the end of the night. You know what I mean? I didn't like the decor. Wasn't feeling it. My lady friend really liked it though. No man should be so persnickety about decor, I guess! However, at 11pm (they close at midnight) it seemed to have a moderate crowd there. They were kinda loud too. There wasn't much on the menu as far as food is concerned, but I did get a couple of small plates: classic BBQ wings and barbecue chicken flatbread. The wings were crispy and delicious. Flat Bread was bigger than I expected (like an 10 inch pizza), and it was also pretty darn good! To drink, my guest had a Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. Hmmm...she loved it, remarking that it made her feel like a "grown assed woman!". Oookaaay. LOL I had the House Sangria and it seemed a tad watered down. (Sad face). First time to see Meridien, I really like the vibe of the place, low key retro look with vintage seating. Cocktails are their specialty and my old fashion was very well made. We tried the flight of fries which was fun. Lemon Parmesan fries were the favorite, we had a hard time determining which was rosemary and which was sage. The filet crostini was very good and i would recommend it. I had a couple oysters which had a nice chili oil dipping sauce. Overall a fun place and a nice addition to South of town. read more

The good: My girlfriend and I were having a small date night and wanted to check-out Meridien. We arrived and the ambiance was great, nice atmosphere, it was trivia night which is always a favorite of ours except it was very hard to hear the questions being asked. The bad: Hands down the absolute worst service I've ever had in my life. I've worked as a server in fine dining for 3+ years and I've never experienced worse service than this location. We were there for an entire hour and our server first came to the table, greeted us and got drink orders. My girlfriend got a beer however I was not sure about what I wanted since it was my first time here. Eventually, she brought back her beer and I ordered "The Empire" a Manhattan-style cocktail; 45 minutes went by without any revisiting to the table by our server. We had two empty water glasses that stayed empty, and she had managed to finish her IPA before the server finally came back to our table after making subtle eye contact signaling for her to check-in with us; she proceeded to ask if we need anything and I said "I was hoping to try my drink that I ordered, but now we would like to just close out and leave as we will be going somewhere else." She responded with "I'm sorry about that, the bar has been really busy tonight and the bartender must've lost the ticket for your drink." Having worked in the food industry, I do understand that this sometimes can happen but that doesn't excuse the additional 45 minutes we sat there with empty water glasses and no return from the server to get our entree orders for dinner. We had planned to have a nice dinner with some drinks and enjoy the rest of our evening, but sadly this was not possible. I would feel differently about my review if the restaurant was fully filled/packed, however half of the dining room was empty. Loved our visit to The Meridien in Centerville! Cozy atmosphere with soft lighting (but not too dark to read the menu) and super comfortable seating. Our server was fantastic--friendly and attentive without hovering. Live acoustic music added a nice touch to the evening. We started with seasonal cocktails (espresso martini + gin/basil = delicious), then shared fresh oysters and lemon ricotta crostini. The mains--steak frites and fish & chips--are served as small plates, which made it easy to try a few things without feeling stuffed. Everything was well-prepared and flavorful. This is another great addition to the Uptown Centerville area. I'm blown away buy some of the reviews complaining about portion sizes. It's called SMALL PLATES!! You are supposed to order everything on the list unless you are by yourself. Anyway, we really enjoyed our first visit. The food was great, the wine was amazing, I got a pour of 18 year old Elijah Craig, and we got to meet the owners. Very nice people! They are still making adjustments as they just opened a week ago. Our service was excellent! They have music but the people noise sort of drowns that out. I'm not sure there is much you can do about that. We got the charred romaine wedge. It was excellent! The crab rangoon was very good and the sauce they make for it was really good. Lots of ginger. The veggie flatbread was on a tortilla which I wasnt a huge fan of but the flavors were really good. I loved the scallops! They had an excellent sear on them and perfect in the center. They just melt in your mouth. The Peruvian Aji Amarillo was so good! I think they did an excellent job rejuvinating this place. They gutted it! I think it turned out great! We will be regulars! read more

We went for a glass of wine to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere here is incredible. Very comfortable with lots of various tables and chairs of different types arranged for great conversation. If you want to be more social, there is a large bar in addition to a large "public" table. Their wine list is quite extensive, with great descriptions for each of the wines. Our server offered tastes of any of them before we bought. They also have a full bar and a lot of nice cocktails on the menu. There was some really nice live music that started around 6pm which was really good. The food menu is geared around starters and small plates. We only tried the classic nuts, as we had other dinner plans, but the food offerings looked tasty. Our server was excellent. She checked back with us often and was super friendly. The manager even stopped by to check on us. They found out the previous day was my wife's birthday and brought us out two glasses of champagne and a dish of ice cream with a candle to celebrate. A very nice touch. I'd highly recommend checking out Meridien. We will definitely be back and could be tempted to become regulars. read more

They advertise small plate portions and portions were small portions as expected. We had the deviled eggs for an appetizer. My wife had a flat bread pizza and said it was blan. I ordered a Cesar salad and the surf n turf, a 3oz filet mignon w/ a Cabernet sauce. The salad was served at the same time as my entree. The steak was overcooked and not tender. I felt the Cabernet sauce was overpowering. The Cesar dressing did not taste like traditional Cesar dressing. Overall, the food flavor and quality fell short of our expectations. read more

Gatsby vibe, delicious & unique food/bevs and perfect hospitality! With it being the holidays they have it decorated just beautifully...the facilities are extraordinary and the dining area has lots of separate seating arrangements, such as cushy chairs/lounges, not just uniform dining tables and chairs. Our waiter was extremely accommodating. I didn't get a picture of the other meal, but it was a frittata and mimosas which was absolutely raved about.. I'm already looking forward to the next visit! First time here. Centerville residents so we like to support local establishments. From the time we walked in to the minute we left, totally disappointed. Service - average at best. Food - tasteless. Ambiance - loud. The owner, Matt, was the first and last person we saw. Never smiled, didn't greet us or ask if we've been before and didn't thank us or say goodbye when we left. We were glad to see a past local favorite get reimagined as something completely new, and were excited to check it out. The wine list was surprisingly good as were the choices available for cocktails. The ambiance was good, a little retro/art deco, and the place looks great. We ordered the scallops and charcuterie, and both were fantastic. I am not even really a huge scallops person, and they were fantastic (and perfectly cooked). My wife got the dumplings, and thought they were very good. I was glad to see Doug the bartender made the transition here from the old place, and he and the other bartender were great. We met the owners, who were very nice and encouraged feedback (not that we had any to give, we really liked what they are doing). In response indirectly to another review here...this is a small plates/wine & cocktail place. If you are expecting huge portions on a gigantic plate, then this is not the place. But all of the small plates were great and moderately priced, especially for a nice upscale place, and were terrific on top of that. Had been wanting to visit this place for a long time and so happy we did. The establishment itself was very inviting. We were there on a Thursday afternoon while they were hosting a bourbon tasting (we didn't participate) but still found the staff to be very attentive. We ordered a bottle of wine and were given a sample as we were picking between two different ones. We also shared an appetizer of the calamari which was perfectly crispy and very tasty. If anything I thought the price of their bottles was a bit high with not much of a range. Looking forward to come back though for special occasions and maybe one of their tasting events. read more

Total disappointment. We do know what small plates are, and we expected tiny portions. But for the price, the food should have been much better. Between our party of four, we ordered 10 plates, 2 bottles of wine, and four cocktails. We didn't eat all of the food because it wasn't any good. After spending over $400, we found ourselves back home at the end of the night eating leftover pasta from our fridge (which was the culinary highlight of the evening). I really think the three dumplings we ordered came from a Trader Joe's frozen box... or maybe I wish they had. That's how bad the food was. Atmosphere is also lacking and the environment is way too loud due to concrete floor, metal tables, and vinyl surfaces throughout. We went with one other couple and struggled to have a conversation. When we left, my husband pointed out that we should have taken a cue about what we were in for since the place was over half empty on a Friday night at 7. We wanted to love this place, as Dayton has very few good dining options. But I'm sad to say we won't be back. read more

Very dissappointing .. Very uninviting . A small plate restaurant and lounge . We had frittata and guyere ham sandwich. Just not a comfortable place . Food was good but nothing to rave about . We left still hungry . It's like they are trying to be something they are not . For s lounge, I would expect a little more coziness . There is nothing to muffle the sound . I think they opened too soon. They should put more thought into the decor especially with their competition across the street which has the ambience. Also, I have never been to a restaurant where I couldn't get a salt:pepper shaker or sugar substitute or even sugar of any kind . Server had to hunt around for all the above and best he could do was liquid agave in a cup . Probably will not be back with much better options for same price all within the same block read more
