Food was delicious & very generous in portion size as well as the coffee cups. Couldn't finish my blueberry pancakes because they were too large for me. Husband had the standard breakfast. Said it was very tasty but also too much food to finish. Ambiance was nice & cozy family feeling. Had a little wait because it was raining, (who wants to go back into the rain after a delicious breakfast ) but no more than maybe 10 minutes if that. Staff was great! Very attentive. We decided to try this spot and glad we did. It is tight inside but quaint and great food. The place sits on busy Broadway and looks like it gets quite busy I would guess during tourist season. The inside is cool, all sorts of art work on walls and even a wood stove in the middle of the place. There are plenty of staff to take care of all the customers flowing in. The menu is a mix of creative breakfast specialities from egg dishes, omlettes and even burrito and taco dishes. Prices are decent and reminds me of some of the Boston cafes that I used to hit up in Jamaica Plain. Highly recommend this place. read more

Every time I've gone to the Corner Cafe, I've had a great breakfast! While there's typically a wait to get in (I think I've waited 25 minutes at one point), the food is well worth the wait. Just as a heads-up, they don't take reservations. I've had many of their selections and they never disappoint! I so wish I remembered the name of the dish I shared in the photo, but I believe it was off a specials menu, and I was in Newport a while ago. I've eaten both outside and inside of the restaurant, and it has such a nice vibe. I really enjoy eating outside on the nicer days! One thing worth mentioning is order the coffee! We arrived to a line that was down the block and were almost discouraged but we decided to stay the course. Thankfully we were seated within 30 minutes and it was definitely worth the wait! The outside seating is spacious and on a beautiful day we were happy to enjoy the sunshine. While we were seated we were served by several different employees who consistently kept my coffee cup full and were attentive when I asked for side items. We enjoyed the Lisbon Express and the daily special buffalo chicken omelette with potatoes and gluten free bread. Known for their long lines at breakfast and lunch. Somewhat hate to share this. On Friday and Saturday, they serve dinner. Limited menu - like 3 appetizers, 5 or 6 entrees, and a few desserts. Always a steak and fish but the menu changes often. This visit found an eggplant appetizer and curry chicken dish and street tacos. BYOB - for a reasonable corkage fee. Service is always swell. Party of 3. Shared the eggplant appetizer. Entrees were small pizzas - "lighthouse" and "deuce" - and I opted for the carnitas street tacos. Split the cafe crepe for dessert. All were tasty but the tacos need a special shout out. Three, overly stuffed Carnitas - and your salsa and sour cream on the side. Damages with tip was $90. This place is organized chaos with servers/waiters/busboys/hosts constantly weaving through the tables and going inside and out! The Corner Cafe is a pretty small space, but they've managed to squeeze 15ish tables inside and a few tables outside. It's super busy all mornings and they don't take reservations. We came around 10am on a Wednesday and the host said it would be 35-40min wait. We decided to grab coffee down the street and came back 30mins later. When we checked in, the host said he called our name a while ago and that he'd seat us at the next available table. Moral of the story: don't leave. The menu is extensive and everything sounded good! The Luna Breakfast Burrito was just ok, but the potatoes were great and full of flavor! The Wise New York Special was a smoked salmon bagel, and it was delicious! The menus has a Healthy Zone section with lighter options, so my sister got a whole grain pancake with two scrambled egg whites with tomato and feta. Overall, friendly service, wide menu, and solid portion sizes, but there are plenty of other cafes to try if the wait is too long! read more

One of the best breakfast spots I have eaten at anywhere in the country. We live in Palm Springs, CA and were in Newport for a Daughter's Wedding. We read the reviews for the Corner Cafe Yelp and walked down the day after the wedding to try it out, waited in line for about 30 minutes and found the wait well worth it. The crab cake bendict and Portuguese french toast with eggs and chorizo were fabulous and the first rate French Press Coffee was excellent. Portions are huge (dishes can easily be split) and service was friendly and attentive. Cool vibe and dog friendly to boot. In a city that is known for its touristy prices it was also a great value.Breakfast is my favorite meal out and I have eaten it all over the US and elsewhere and I would rate Corner Cafe up there with any place I have been. read more

Corner Cafe is a place any self-respecting foodie cannot miss when visiting Newport. We tried to go on our second to last morning but just driving by I could tell that the line was prohibitively long. We attempted a second time on the following morning, a rainy Thursday at around 10:30am and somehow by the grace of god we were seated IMMEDIATELY. I don't know what I did to deserve this but I think the brunch gods confused me with someone else. We got our coffee orders in straight away before we had a chance to peruse their impressive caffeine menu which was inconspicuously hidden between the condiments. The menu is some next level shit to the point that it is torture to try to make a decision. I was torn between a few of the vegetarian options but I settled on Mi Mi's tacos: blue corn tortillas filled with scrambled eggs, black beans, cheddar, cilantro, and avocado served with salsa and sour cream on the side and home fries. This dish was absolutely delicious EXCEPT for the avocado gently placed on top because it was frankly one of the most disgusting avocados I have ever seen and I can tell you I have busted them open at home after leaving them way too long to ripen more times than I care to admit. Anyone who could see a hand in front of their face could tell this avocado should not be served and I am amazed and very disappointed they felt it was appropriate to serve this. You're welcome to see for yourself in the photos I will include. The adjacent table also ordered avocado and I noticed it was fresh. I've never had avocado envy before but that shit is real. I plucked the disgusting avocado slices from my tacos and after a few spritzes of hot sauce, dug in. The tacos were tasty but I could tell they would have that extra umph with creamy avocado. When our server came over to check in on us, I brought my displeasure with the avocado to her attention and she tried to tell me it was because it was "grilled". No, that's not what it is. Fortunately, she fetched me another sliced avocado half from the kitchen which I was able to enjoy with the latter half of my meal. The home fries were aggressively seasoned which is just the way I like it. I almost choked on the seasoning while breathing during its consumption but that's how you know it's appropriately seasoned. I can see why people lose their shit over this place but again, I can't justify giving this place any more than 3 stars if they are willing to serve anything other than fresh ingredients. read more

I decided upon the Wooten's sweetbread french toast. This decision was made purely on the fact that they were serving it with maple pecan butter. I wanted to taste that! My husband ordered the Irishman omelet. We each ordered a side of bacon. The wait wasn't long. Our meals were delivered and we could tell by the plates we had made a great decision coming to Corner! A minute later another omelet approached our table, my husband received the wrong omelet. They were apologetic and caught us before we got very deep into eating. No worries! The maple pecan butter- SUPER DELICIOUS!!! Heavy, heard to spread but worth tasting! I was not disappointed. You know that side of bacon- I like my bacon extra crispy. This bacon was crisp to perfection! My husband- raved that his meal was delicious! He said they just do things right here. Only issue I had... i guess my server was not from RI as my coffee milk was very dark and too sweet for my liking. But she brought me more milk to cut it and I was happy. The Corner Cafe is a go-o place for great food. On October 29th, my wife Lauretta's 88th birthday, the staff went way above and beyond to make our celebration super Special. Our wonderful wait person Sarah was absolutely superb in every way. When Sarah asked what we were celebrating, I mistakenly said our wedding anniversary. The owner of the restaurant came over and congratulated us. Lauretta told her we were actually celebrating her 88th birthday. Well, the entire restaurant staff came to our table, and LOUDLY and joyfully sang a robust "Happy birthday Lauretta..." and the entire restaurant full of customers joined in with equally loud cheers and congratulations when I echoed "88 years old!" I came close to opening time around 7:45 and the establishment was already half full with the outdoor section not available. I sat down inside and ordered the special of crab cake benedict. The egg was perfectly cooked with a savory hollandaise sauce. I was not a fan of the multigrain bread which was much too hard and difficult to cut to enjoy with the benedict. The crab cake tasted fresh and was seasoned beautifully. The house potatoes were seasoned well. The staff were friendly and were quick to serve. This was the place in town to be! Right on the corner of Broadway! They had cute outdoor seating, regular tables, and spots at the bar. The staff was incredible even though they were so busy! Came here on a Saturday during peak brunch hours so I should've expected the wait, but my boyfriend and I indeed had to wait around 30-40 minutes. Closer to 40 minutes by the time you actually get seated. I came here on a recommendation by a friend, and I just expected a slightly better experience. The food itself was a bit average, not too exceptional to stand out. I got the wrap with chicken, roasted peppers, sauteed mushrooms, and Swiss cheese. I don't know how they did it but my omelette was the best omelette I've had in my whole damn life!!!! The scrambled bistro and avocado toast were delicious! The iced mint hot chocolate gives you such amazing holiday vibes (my kid insisted they taste like candy canes and Christmas!). I come to Newport every year on vacation, but this was my first time going to the Corner Cafe. I was here for a few days with my boyfriend, and we saw all of the good reviews on Yelp when searching for a sit-down breakfast spot on our second day. We walked from our spot on Thames to the Corner Cafe and waited for 20 minutes on the first day because the line was wrapped around the building (and for good reason too). The first day we sat at the bar area, and we were immediately asked if we wanted any coffee or tea before ordering our food. Hands down one of the best (if not the best) chai lattes I have ever had! I loved how the mugs were large and all a different shape and design; it added to the quirky and cozy atmosphere. The first day I got the home fry fiesta with a plain bagel and my boyfriend got the cowboy scrambler. We both left full and wanting more (hence why we went back for a second time the following day). I couldn't pass up another chai latte, however we both switched it up and I got a California Benny while he got the Portuguese sweet bread scrambler. The portions were great and everything was so well made and seasoned. We didn't feel heavy or "bleh" after leaving. We are so excited that we found our new favorite breakfast spot while we are vacationing in Newport! Although this cafe is on the smaller side, the staff is on point and attentive to everyone's needs. Although we waited a little to sit each day we went, we were kindly brought to our seats and immediately given attention (which made ordering and getting our food very easy). All of the staff is constantly going; although we had our main waitress, other staff catered to our needs if we needed water or more napkins (we didn't have to wait around for someone to take care of us). What can I say, this place was fantastic for breakfast. We arrived around 9:10 AM on a Wednesday and had a brief 5 minute wait for a table for 3. We chose to sit outside and had a great table for 4 to ourselves. We ordered two of their great lattes and could get them iced even though it wasn't clear on the menu. If you're a fan of sweet flavorful coffees like my kids then you can go wrong with any of them. I opted for the vitamin C booster which was a fabulous blend of juices. We had three different breakfasts one a pancakes with side of choruico (Portuguese variety of mildly spicy pork sausage), one a loaded French toast (see pictures) which was so fruit filled, and an Athena omelette. The breakfast potato's were simply the best herbed, roasted and fried red and fingerling mixed potato's I have had on a breakfast plate. Can't wait to have them again.
