The best elotes in LA!! The corn man is no joke. He usually gets there at 10 pm, and there would already be some people waiting for him to set up and open. The usual wait is around 35-40 minutes, but I guess on busy nights the wait could be up to an hour! It's so simple yet so good. You can either get the corn in a bowl or on the cob. I always get the bowl ($2.5) since I don't want to make a mess. The best part is he adds some sort of butter? powder chili, and cheese on top. You can ask for lime too. I've been wanting to try this guys elote for years! I'm sad to say I was quite disappointed. They say he arrives around 11pm so we got there shortly before and there was already a huge line. Rico tejuino around the corner has the best esquite I've ever had, but they close super early. This is a good little place to try for a late night snack but absolutely not worth waiting 2 hours for. His son works alongside him too and both of them are super chill to talk to. You can get either spicy or no spicy with your elote or have it on a stick or in a cup. My first bite was life changing as it was the best elote I've ever had so far in my life! It is amazing how the Corn Man is still here. When I was a kid, the price was around $1.50, but is now $4.00. Soda is still $1.00. However, it is still worth it. I usually get the bowl with everything on it (some blue bottle of margarine, mayo, cotija cheese, chilli) and I ask for lime/lemon on top. The citrus tone helps cut all the fat on it and is a perfect balancer. Line is longer than I remembered, probably due to the popularity and social media. Just remember to not litter in the parking lot because the pigs will complain about it, as well as his son and daughter and him will end up cleaning the whole parking lot. There is a trash bag the corn man keeps near him, so use that. It is sad to see there are always litter of the bowls, soda cans, etc in the parking lot. read more

If you prefer subtle things (not too salty or sweet or greasy), I would say ask for maybe half of everything that goes on the corn. I noticed that he puts a lot of the cotija cheese (6-7 spoons ) so I asked for only 2 and it was just enough for me! Surprisingly I really liked it. The corn was really plump and sweet. It was definitely fresh corn and not canned corn. The mayo surprisingly didn't taste weird at all. An LA staple! This is probably the best late night guilty pleasure food you'll find in the area. I had to make this stop while in the city. Been coming here for over 4 years. I love the corn here and think it's the best in LA. However, when I went today, we left after waiting over 45 mins in line. That's because he wasn't wearing masks or gloves. Not only that, but they're touching the corn with the same hands as the money!!! Completely unsanitary. Not gonna risk getting a life threatening disease for some corn right now. I literally came to california just to come to this man. Judt kidding but I have waited so long for the moment I get to see this mans face and watch him make the best bowl of food that I will have ever eaten in my life. Im in front of the glorious man himself and he tells me they ran out of corn on the cob... its okay because I ordered 4 bowls to make up for it. 2.50 a bowl not bad and the amount he cheese he puts on it.. man.. amazing I got out of line and stood there with 2 bowls in a bag and 1 bowl in front of me. Took my pictures and dug into it. It was the creamiest elote I have ever eaten. Maybe it was the cheese or the butter or the mayo but man it was soooo good. The corn was super crunchy too and really sweet it was just amazing... The next day I had the extra bowls in the fridge and so I put it in a bowl and microwaved it like 1 minute. I started mixing it and man.. that cheese pull... it smelled so good and it was literally like a cheesey mac and cheese except this time its corn and cheese. Everything was incorporated so well and the taste? Man even better.. idk how the corn stayed so crunchy still but it was definitely not soggy. This is definitely some of the best elote/esquite in Los Angeles! This little food stand is ran by Timothy who has been selling his street corn for over 30 years. His hours change but he is currently there from 11:15pm-3am every night. We came at 10:45pm and were surprised to see many people waiting already with folding chairs on deck! We brought a table and chairs too so I guess we were on point. He was a little late by about 20 minutes but he's a stand so it's all good! We got the corn on the cob and in the bowl to try both - the cob was definitely better although messier! He loads your corn with mayo, butter, chili powder (which is def a bit spicy), and a mountain of cheese. You can also get lime additionally! Once we left, there was a line down the whole parking lot! Timothy works hard and it's easy to tell that he's passionate. I would def recommend for a late night snack, perhaps after some tacos!! Parking is plentiful in the lot and the corn is now $3. However, I knew the Yelp address was correct the moment I saw someone busted out a portable chair right next to the telephone booth at 9:30 PM. [Parking] - Since the vendor is right next to the 99 Cents Only Stores parking plaza, you will find ample free parking spaces. [Wait time] - For my 1st visit, line started to form at 9:45 PM (I was one of the first in line) on Thursday night. For my 2nd visit, I came at 10:45 PM on Friday and the wait time was approximately one hour. [Menu] - There are really only two options - cob or bowl ($2 each). The Corn Man will ask you the following questions: Cob or bowl? Here or to go? With or without chili? Regular cheese or light cheese? You can also request a fresh squirt of lime. For drinks they sell champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate), sodas, and bottles of water. *** Mexican corn on the cob (elotes - with chili, $2): Talk about one creamy (from cheese and mayo), spicy (chili), and juicy cob for JUST $2. Y'all know about the Muffin Man who lives in Drury Lane, but did y'all know about the awesome Corn Man that sells his delicious elotes off of Workman Street?! Mr. Timoteo (aka, The Corn Man) and his little makeshift stand can be found every evening, near the alley entrance of the 99c parking lot, off of Workman. He makes an appearance closer to 10:30 PM, but the line begins forming at around 9-9:15 PM. Trust me, get there early, as the corn does run out. The menu is literally all about elotes, offered in 2 forms: on the cob, or kernels sliced into a styrofoam bowl. Obviously, even though the corn-on-the-cob is messier to tackle, it's the better option! When it's your turn, Mr. Timoteo greets you and asks you what you would like to order; then, you see how the magical corn comes to its glorious being. He inserts a sharp wooden stick into the end of the corn to be used as a handle. He then spatulas about a 1/2 cup of mayo (or more) on the corn, dips it into a big tub of white Parmesan cheese, and then grabs a squirt bottle of melted butter and then dresses it generously. If you want it to make it 'spicy,' he'll sprinkle some chile powder to it, and even the option to squirt some lime juice, per request. You then walk a few steps towards Mr. Timoteo's son, where you can pick up canned beverages and/or pay up in cash. THE ELOTES ARE SO SO SO SO DELICIOUS. Even though it's created with simple ingredients, it's the ratio and the combination of how Mr. Timoteo does it - the corn is perfectly steamed and piping HOT; the toppings on the corn just melds together in perfect delicious harmony, with a nice kick from the chile powder. It is an absolute comfort snack at its finest!!! Some take their orders to-go, but I'm all about eating it right there on the trunk of our car AHAHA The hubs, who is a huge corn fanatic, absolutely loved it as well, and he even said that he would probably get another corn with just melted butter, just for simplicity's sake. The only thing is that there may be evenings where Mr. Timoteo may not show up, but taking the risk to wait to end up with some delicious elotes, it's totally worth it!
