Some Chicken pieces was heavy on the salt, but overall it was seasoned well enough that I didnt need to add much hot sauce to it. My group of 5 people all rate it 5/5. I have visited Corey's before and only purchased fried chicken and gizzard. This time we decided to dine in since they had moved to a larger location. We were seated within 5 minutes after the table was cleaned off. We decided to get catfish with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy, and fried pork chop with Mac and cheese and potatoe salad. While waiting for our entrees, we received a biscuit with butter and strawberry jam on a small plate. It took about 20 minutes for our food to come out. We did get plastic cups to self serve our drinks. The catfish had a pretty brown coating but could use more seasoning. The collards tasted like it came out of the can of Glory greens. The mashed potatoes need salt and pepper and butter. The fried pork chops needed salt as well. The Mac and cheese looked like Velveeta and the potatoes in the potatoe salad was firm but had a decent taste. There wasn't a designated server for any of the tables. There were at least six other tables with two or more people at each table. It seems to be a little disorganized with serving people. We had to ask for a to go box to a woman who was walking around with her hands in her pocket. We just assumed she worked there as well. There was a jazz band scheduled to perform in the other area of the building at 6pm tonight. I'll stick to my chicken gizzards and fried chicken if I return again. Welcoming staff make you feel at home. There are huge jugs of water, koolaid and sweet tea that you help yourself to. Fried chicken and fish dominate the menu. I ordered the dark meat chicken with collards and Mac and cheese as my two sides. They started us with a biscuit which was just ok but no dish to put it on. First of all, when entering we were greeted warmly with gratitude. I had the fried whiting with baked beans and collard greens. $17.58 There were 2 large pieces of golden brown fish that were crunchy on the outside and meaty inside. The fish was also lightly breaded and seasoned. Just delicious, now the baked beans were cookout ready; sweet and savory. Now the collards are not seasoned the traditional southern soulful way, but satisfying. To drink I a surprising satisfying childhood flashback, Red Kool Aid. Sweetened perfectly. My mom had heard about this place and couldn't find it when looking for it. Luckily, on our way back to Richmond, we were able to locate it. Tucked into the corner of a hotel, This staff was incredibly friendly and hospitable. The space itself gives the church multipurpose room on Sunday evening, no frills, communal drink station in the side room. We ordered some of the most common dishes, fried chicken, candied yams, mac and cheese with collard greens. There are no more biscuits, there are pillowy yeast rolls instead. Evening was delicious, except the macaroni and cheese.... it was odd, like it was a mix of box and homemade, leaning closer to the former. On the way out, we were mesmerized by the lemon creme cake. The customer service was nice but the food fell short in seasoning, flavors you expect from a southern restaurant. Honestly it tasted raw. I paid about $60 with a tip. I did not eat the food after 1 bite. The mash potatoes seemed as if they gave the bottom of it. They had hard edges in it and the color was darker. We had the fried chicken and the fried catfish. The chicken was hot, juicy, and seasoned well. The catfish was melt in your mouth flaky and fabulous. Our sides were collards, mashed potatoes and gravy, and mac and cheese. The collards were cooked perfectly, not too limp, and again seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes and gravy were super filling, and definitely not from a box. The mac and cheese was buttery cheesy goodness. We were looking for a quick lunch after shopping at the outlets and are so glad we chose Corey's Chicken Shack. Everyone we interacted with were so kind and the food is beyond amazing. It reminded me of the food we had during Sunday family dinners with all the family sitting at the dining room table at home. We had the white chicken platter and the seafood platter - both came with two sides and a really delicious biscuit. We chose the Mac & cheese/potato salad (that tasted exactly like my moms)/collards/green beans. It's connected to a hotel so there's plenty of parking. Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!!! Okay I had to do it! But in all seriousness it really was some juicy crunchy chicken and yummy sides! Here is the breakdown of what we ordered: The 8 piece chicken dinner which comes with two large sides and 4 rolls. Chicken came out piping hot and instead of 4 rolls we got two large biscuits, which were light and fluffy and also straight out of the oven! I'll take biscuits any day over rolls. The man who dropped them off to our table also included butter, jelly and honey. Perfect! The fried chicken was nice and juicy and a good seasoning on the crispy skin. Macaroni & cheese-very yummy and just the right amount of cheese for me. Coleslaw-very good! Potato salad-.good! They only offer lemonade, sweet tea and kool-aid. In a town where I have been largely underwhelmed by overpriced mediocre/bad food, this place stood out for delicious, very reasonably priced fried chicken. For a family of 4, a full dinner was around $50 with a lot of leftovers. The chicken, corn pudding, and collared greens were all great and served steaming hot and fresh. The chicken was probably one of the best pieces of fried chicken that I've had - very crispy, well seasoned, moist, and not oily (if it has been more spicy, it would have been perfect). The corn pudding was like a sweet bread pudding with corn bits (the taste is reminiscent of Vietnamese corn-based puddings), and the collared greens were phenomenal - tangy, meaty, well-seasoned. We didn't like the mashed potatoes, and the yams were fine, but I prefer mashed yams, I suppose. Came here today for lunch, and it was a wonderful time. It's a nice, small spot for lunch/dinner. Portions are big, and the family meals are more than satisfying. Chickens really good here. The chicken was salty and had a weird aftertaste of rosemary or thyme, and the greens had a little too much vinegar but I liked that they used smoked turkey in them instead of pork. We wanted soul food while visiting, so we stopped by here. We ordered the baked chicken meal, which was leftover chicken that you could taste was refrigerated and reheated...and was not edible because the meat was hard. Very disappointing. The mashed potatoes were good. The greens were also decent. The catfish was pretty good, along with the macaroni and cheese, my son would not eat the cabbage because it was very bland, so were the green beans. The smothered pork chop was over cooked... honestly we wanted to love this place, but we were very disappointed. I think that we possibly just came at the wrong time because we waited a while for our food, but our food did not tasted fresh. The potato salad was store bought potato salad. The biscuits were soggy, not sure if they were pre-wrapped in the aluminum foil. We spent over $60 here and we were disappointed. I had to be difficult and I ordered a thigh and a breast, which seemed to cause some despair with the employee who took our order, seemed to work itself out. I had fries and green beans as my side items. Drinks were limited to sweet tea, lemonade, water and a juice. No fountain drinks available. The sweet tea was our choice and man, was it sweet. Phewee! They Brought out some biscuits and they were nice and warm and fluffy. Overall the chicken was good, unfortunately they overcooked my chicken breast, pretty tough to chew..I was dissappointed with but it tasted good and my sides were good.
