First time here and loved it! From the Bay Area, stopped by before heading home. Never seen a Korean place with such a variety of delicious banchan like Coredam. Friendly service 10/10, she even suggested the coffee machine after the meal, and it was just as good as she said. Bibimbap 10/10, soup 8/10 (fresh beef!), and dumplings were juicy and homemade, no strong pork smell like most places. I finally went but I had to do take out which I know it's not as good but next time! Environment: a small area but they fit as many tables as possible. Staff: very friendly and even though I ordered take out they offered me tea! Food: I ordered the beef soup to go and it was really good! They provided lots of side dishes to bring along too which many places don't do that. It was delicious and it had a lot of meat! I cannot say enough good things about Coredam! It is so authentically Korean that it can be a bit intimidating at first. Also, they have the best and biggest Korean Soup selection I've ever seen at one place...and that is by far the most unique element as most Korean places only roll with your basic meat, noodle, and rice dishes. They don't hold back on the spice, or the variety of banchan, or the use of fern shoots. Everything here is so good and there's a lot to choose from. I'm not a big fan of fish or tofu...but I'm getting really close to trusting them with something along the lines of seafood because everything else is so good! The staff is super friendly and always accommodating even when we roll up 15 minutes before closing. It's not a habit that I do often but considering other Korean joints usually stop seating people 45 minutes before they close...not Coredam (doesn't make me feel any better when I'm still eating at 9:15...(to be fair, I thought they closed at 10 :( This place looks and feels like you're eating in someone's home. I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. One of the servers, the one wearing glasses, was very kind and professional, and I truly appreciated his service. However, the other waitress had a terrible attitude from start to finish. She never smiled once and constantly looked unhappy and annoyed. Customers come to enjoy a meal, not to feel uncomfortable or worry about a server's mood. It honestly felt like we had to watch her facial expressions the entire time while eating. Her behavior completely ruined the dining experience. I hope the management takes this seriously and addresses her attitude, otherwise I will definitely not come back again. read more

This Korean restaurant is now one of our favorites! My husband has been here a dozen times and every visit is quality, consistent and delicious! We're working our way through the meu. Don't be intimidated by the Korean names on the dishes. They are all nicely photographed and nice description. With everything you'll get a full variety of banchan (free side dishes) which can be kimchi, cucumber, fish cake strips, fern stems and sometimes raw spicy crab. Some of the dishes include rice but not all so if you're a rice eater ask for it as it comes separately. Ok for the best dishes: Appetizers: Dumplings (steamed and homemade and so juicy) Jajangmyen (black bean and pork) Soups: Yanji Seolleongtang (beef bone soup and beef brisket, not spicy) Yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) with dumplings Mandu-guk or noodles Kalguksu. Basically anything with dumplings is my favorite. They have the traditional food like beef Bulgogi or Japchae (noodles) for the intimidated. Seriously you can just point at anything and love it! I feel like all Korean restaurants in Portland are just ok and Coredam is just that. Price point is a bit high imo, but that's Portland restaurants these days. Restaurant vibes are casual, just as if you were over at a friend's house for lunch. We went for lunch on a Sunday and towards the end of our meal, the staff was also eating their lunch together. Very chill, homey vibes. I got the bibimbap and the portion was sorta small. It looked big from the plating, but there was not a lot of each item. They had a good variety of banchan though! Revisited Coredam again! When pressed by our good friends who are not familiar with Korean cooking, we brought them to Coredam to get "the experience". I will add the photos to this review. My buddy Jim loved his bi bim bop, everyone loved the kalbi, and the banchan, as usual, was very impressive...and tasty! They liked everything they tried except for the bone broth soup that accompanied the lunch order. Our friend's comment was that the soup, when compared to everything else flavor-wise, was rather boring and bland. They loved the banchan crab sauce, but had difficulty getting any crab out of it (I pass on that too, although my wife loves it). Recently came again for lunch after a year since my last visit. We got the raw marinated crab and LA galbi. The waitress was very kind and brought us aprons so we wouldn't get our clothes dirty from the crab. They provided gloves as well. I loved the crab- the flavor was amazing. A true hidden gem in Oregon! During my week in Portland, I was craving Korean food and stumbled upon Coredam, ended up coming here twice in just 5 days, which says it all. The galbi had a perfect char with tender, flavorful meat, and the tofu stew was rich and comforting. Their banchan spread was generous, with my personal favorites being the fresh kimchi and the raw spicy marinated crab!! Something I've never seen offered as a complimentary side before. It's a cozy, family-run spot, and both times we were seated right away with no wait. Service can be a bit busy at peak times, but it's warm and welcoming. Prices aren't the cheapest, but the quality, authenticity, and portion sizes make it well worth it. This is easily my favorite Korean spots in the area. This place has so many bunchan choices and amazing lunch specials at $15.95 that include a main entree (Bulgogi or Spicy Pork and grilled mackerel), rice, seaweed soup, and all the side dishes of course. I mean come on, what a deal! It was pretty empty when we went on a Tuesday right when they opened and you know it's a good sign when you see the ajumas and the ajashis dining there. The service is very nice and friendly and I really appreciate the special plate set for my toddler! It is a mom and pop and feels very homey. The lunch special portions were perfect for my friend and I to be full and of course you can always ask for more refills of the banchans. Such an unassuming gem of a place. It was filled with elderly folks catching up with family and friends, business people, couples and friends meeting up. With such a diverse crowd, you know the food is good! We got a table quickly and got cups of barley tea. The place was crowded for lunch, so service took a bit though they were super nice. We got one lunch special with bulgogi, which is such a deal!! And a spicy beef stew with mandu. Food came quickly! All the banchan were good. It included the marinated crab. Love the fish cakes, bean sprouts, and radish. The rice was a beautifully chewy texture and the fried croaker fish was so tender and perfectly seasoned. The bulgogi was also good with little mushrooms and we made little packages with lettuce and banchan to eat together. It also came with a seaweed soup. The spicy beef with mandu was perfect! It would be amazing on a cloudy or rainy day. There was a hearty amount of mandu and the beef was tender. We loved it with the rice. This used to be one of my favorite Korean restaurants but the quality has really gone downhill and the prices doesn't match the portion and quality. Most notably, the soondubu jjigae ($20) was smaller than the size of my hand. I couldn't believe the size when it came out, it was slightly bigger than a bowl of rice. Other restaurants have it in a much bigger stone pot. The jjajangmyeon was very gingery for some reason. This restaurant was known for its banchan but this time the variety was small (also no more marinated raw crabs as a side) and didn't taste fresh. read more

I ordered the Hot Stone Bowl Bibimbap and subbed tofu. I thought it was delicious, but the portions were a bit smaller than what I expected for $20, especially with the pieces of tofu. When they first opened, the hype was real, I remember waiting around 40 minutes to an hour just to get a table! Thankfully things have calmed down since then, and while there's still a chance you'll wait during peak hours, it's nowhere near as long now. They also have a parking lot, though spaces are limited, so plan accordingly. I've tried many of their dishes here they've yet to disappoint, and I also absolutely love their banchan selection, especially the spicy raw marinated crabs as side?! It was really good to try especially if you're unsure of wanting to order it or not. They offer some traditional sides that you don't often find at other Korean restaurants, which makes this place stand out! Let's talk about the food: *LA Galbi* It's my go-to dish at any Korean restaurant, and theirs is perfectly grilled with a delicious smoky flavor. *Yangji Seolleongtang (Beef brisket)* if you've never tried this dish before it's clear broth with a rich, savory flavor from long-simmered beef bones and brisket so it's a very hearty and comforting dish. Will come with salt and onion for you to season to taste because all the flavor you're gonna get is from the actual bone broth itself. *Yukgaejang Kalguksu* The soup is spicy from the Korean chili and the beef flavor makes it savory, think of this like an elevated Korean ramen! *Sundubu (Korean Hot Tofu)* Had a strong seafood taste wasn't as memorable and for $20 is kinda pricy for sundubu. *Coredam special Hhe Mul Jeongol* Portion is really big we could not finish this even more 3 people, lots of seafoods and veggies in here, this is perfect to share and will warm you up on a cold day! *Spicy Crab* Raw crab itself doesn't have a strong fishy flavor which is really good, the meat is soft and the spicy marinade adds a nice flavorful punch. Can be messy to eat so ask for gloves! *Hot stone bowl bibimbap* My mom, who's very particular about her food, loves this! It's packed with fresh veggies and beef, and if you let the rice sit, you get that amazing crunchy, scorched layer at the bottom. *Tteokbokki* is another favorite of mine, it's sweet, spicy, savory, and the rice cakes are soft and chewy. I get it every time I visit. Another standout is their rice, which is served in a special pot that keeps it warm throughout the meal, small detail, but it makes a huge difference. They offer a wide variety of menu options, so there's something for everyone. The flavors are very homey and comforting. As a bonus, I absolutely love their instant coffee machine!!!! It makes surprisingly delicious coffee, so don't forget to give it a try just press the button! Pricing isn't the cheapest in the area, but I think it's worth it for the quality and authenticity. We decided to drop by this place the day after new years as we were craving something that would keep us warm and welcome us into the new year. The space has lots of seating and we got a table right away. With complimentary barley-flavored hot tea, we indulged in a plethora of banchan. Had your typical items but it also came with marinated carb legs! I'm not a huge fan, as it's usually too much work I'd want to put in, but I was surprised that came with the meal! Ordered a tteok-manduguk, which was amazing. The broth was seasoned well and the meat was tender. We also ordered the yangji seolleongtang which had a very natural-tasting broth that you can salt to your own taste! Both dishes were good and we'd definitely come back to try out other dishes! It's a little tricky to find Corredan as it's not facing TV Highway directly, but we got a glance of it and decided to give it a try! We arrived at 5pm as other reviewers suggested and we were glad we did; as it filled up quickly around 5:30! The restaurant decoration is simple and a bit nostalgic, everything looked clean and felt spacious. The servers were all very friendly and took our order right away. As they served the banchan, we were pleasantly surprised by 13 different dishes, including marinated raw crab which was quite tasty. We ordered the Seollangtang (beef bone broth) and Yook ge Jang Kal Guk Su (spicy beef noodle soup) and both were good. I liked my Seollangtang as it was creamy and savory. I did have to season it by putting my own salt/pepper on the soup, but that's typical for that dish. My husband's Yook Ge Jang Kal Guk Su came with a large portion and was loaded with lots of noodles. As we looked around, we saw many dishes with huge portions and realized that's a signature of this restaurant. Overall, we are happy to find Corredan as it is another solid Korean restaurant in our neighborhood. I'd recommend it if you'd like to try some authentic Korean dishes. read more

It was perfect for us after hectic afternoon and just wanted to dine in peace and quietness with a newborn too Ordered their dolsot bibimbap so good. Stone pot mixed rice with veggies and beef. Sizzling hot! With fried egg on top, perfect! They didn't have seaweed to give to customer but still offered me the ones they would eat themselves so I could wrap it with the rice in it. Cannot go wrong with traditional sullungtang on a chilly day, so try mixed meats of tripe and tendon. Silky broth that warms your soul And spicy galbitang, sooo seasoned and an abundance of flavor! Second time here! They have the sweetest ladies working and a very homey feeling atmosphere. Their portions are massive and I always have food to take home. I've had two different hotpot style soups now and they're okay, I might go for something different next time. Their banchan are so plentiful and generous! That alone makes this place worth it. It is a smaller restaurant and the ambience is very casual and in classic korean restaurant fashion. The wall art is funny if you look close enough. Service is great! But keep in mind it can get busy. You'll get your food, it's ok. Also, don't be afraid to just raise your hand or say "excuse me". We decided to order their tteokbokki, kalbi, and sundubu. Kalbi was delicious and perfect. Their tteokbokki was also really yummy, with a big portion. Their sundubu arrived piping hot (still boiling) but perfect to mix the egg around. They had so much seafood included in the sundubu, which was very generous. The closest I've felt like I was in a regular restaurant in korea here in Portland. Good selection of classic Korean soups and meat dishes instead of the more popular street food dishes at many of the more fusion-y places. They even have Sundae soup here which I've rarely seen. This place I guess got really popular bc of its impressive banchan spread, particularly that they include raw marinated spicy crab as one of the dishes which is awesome. And if you want more you can order a larger portion in the Hansik (set meal). There is no way to eat this and look dignified so just accept the mess ur gonna go thru some napkins. There's a total of around 10 different banchan, which is standard in korea but good for here in the states. We went for one of the beef hotpot w/ multiple cuts of beef & tendon in a clear bone broth which was very nice w/ the thinly sliced beef. That alone would've been plenty for 2 but we wanted to try one more so we got the Oogeoji Galbitang which is like a meatier more seasoned Galbitang w/ kimchi. The bone they gave was so big & meaty after a while of scraping the meat off I just gave up and went caveman style on it. When we went around 6 on a weeknight there was only 1 other table but by the end of the meal the place was nearly full. Prices may seem a bit high but portions are very large & good for sharing. I called to place a takeout order because I was craving this food after a long time, but the phone service was extremely rude and completely ruined my day. The staff member who answered the phone spoke in an unpleasant and irritated tone from the beginning. When I asked if two items and one item could be packaged separately, I was told--very rudely--that this could not be accommodated. I called back afterward, but no one answered. When I called again, the person picked up the phone and hung up without saying anything. You must sign in once you enter otherwise you will be ignored. Long, long wait times to be expected. As busy as it gets, the service is still friendly & you cannot complain when watching them hustle. They have always been polite & courteous which could be said as a rarity in a Corean restaurant. Best Banchan spread in town. Sometimes 10+ dishes, fresh, unique variety, refills.
