Yukgaejang Kalguksu

12 Banchan are handsdown delicious! Ordered Yukgaejang Soup, it was good but can be better. Will try a different one next time. Servers are friendly and attentive.

This Korean restaurant is now one of our favorites! My husband has been here a dozen times and every visit is quality, consistent and delicious! We're working our way through the meu. Don't be intimidated by the Korean names on the dishes. They are all nicely photographed and nice description. With everything you'll get a full variety of banchan (free side dishes) which can be kimchi, cucumber, fish cake strips, fern stems and sometimes raw spicy crab. Some of the dishes include rice but not all so if you're a rice eater ask for it as it comes separately. Ok for the best dishes: Appetizers: Dumplings (steamed and homemade and so juicy) Jajangmyen (black bean and pork) Soups: Yanji Seolleongtang (beef bone soup and beef brisket, not spicy) Yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) with dumplings Mandu-guk or noodles Kalguksu. Basically anything with dumplings is my favorite. They have the traditional food like beef Bulgogi or Japchae (noodles) for the intimidated. Seriously you can just point at anything and love it! Oh and they have the most generous and delicious LA Galbi (beef ribs) that you have ever had. It's sweet and savory and served on a hot sizzling platter.

I feel like all Korean restaurants in Portland are just ok and Coredam is just that. Price point is a bit high imo, but that's Portland restaurants these days. Restaurant vibes are casual, just as if you were over at a friend's house for lunch. We went for lunch on a Sunday and towards the end of our meal, the staff was also eating their lunch together. Very chill, homey vibes. I got the bibimbap and the portion was sorta small. It looked big from the plating, but there was not a lot of each item. They had a good variety of banchan though! That was good - definitely better than other Korean restaurants. Coredam will definitely satisfy your Korean food cravings. They are worth the visit!

Revisited Coredam again! When pressed by our good friends who are not familiar with Korean cooking, we brought them to Coredam to get "the experience". I will add the photos to this review. My buddy Jim loved his bi bim bop, everyone loved the kalbi, and the banchan, as usual, was very impressive...and tasty! They liked everything they tried except for the bone broth soup that accompanied the lunch order. Our friend's comment was that the soup, when compared to everything else flavor-wise, was rather boring and bland. They loved the banchan crab sauce, but had difficulty getting any crab out of it (I pass on that too, although my wife loves it). If you want to introduce friends to Korean food, Coredam is a great option!

A true hidden gem in Oregon! During my week in Portland, I was craving Korean food and stumbled upon Coredam, ended up coming here twice in just 5 days, which says it all. The galbi had a perfect char with tender, flavorful meat, and the tofu stew was rich and comforting. Their banchan spread was generous, with my personal favorites being the fresh kimchi and the raw spicy marinated crab!! Something I've never seen offered as a complimentary side before. It's a cozy, family-run spot, and both times we were seated right away with no wait. Service can be a bit busy at peak times, but it's warm and welcoming. Prices aren't the cheapest, but the quality, authenticity, and portion sizes make it well worth it. This is easily my favorite Korean spots in the area. I always leave happy and very full - I'll be back here every time I'm in Portland!

Plate set for my toddler! So thoughtful!

This place has so many bunchan choices and amazing lunch specials at $15.95 that include a main entree (Bulgogi or Spicy Pork and grilled mackerel), rice, seaweed soup, and all the side dishes of course. I mean come on, what a deal! It was pretty empty when we went on a Tuesday right when they opened and you know it's a good sign when you see the ajumas and the ajashis dining there. The service is very nice and friendly and I really appreciate the special plate set for my toddler! It is a mom and pop and feels very homey. The lunch special portions were perfect for my friend and I to be full and of course you can always ask for more refills of the banchans. It looks like they have cold noodles for the summer so we will definitely come back to try that on hot summer days!

food was so good and comforting. I loved the side dishes they gave us especially the bean sprouts and potatoes. I got the yukgaejang kalguksu which was amazing. the broth was deep and rich and I was happy with how generous they were with the meat and veggies. the noodles were also cooked to perfection as they came out super chewy! everything came out piping hot and quickly!

Lunch special with Bulgogi.

Such an unassuming gem of a place. It was filled with elderly folks catching up with family and friends, business people, couples and friends meeting up. With such a diverse crowd, you know the food is good! We got a table quickly and got cups of barley tea. The place was crowded for lunch, so service took a bit though they were super nice. We got one lunch special with bulgogi, which is such a deal!! And a spicy beef stew with mandu. Food came quickly! All the banchan were good. It included the marinated crab. Love the fish cakes, bean sprouts, and radish. The rice was a beautifully chewy texture and the fried croaker fish was so tender and perfectly seasoned. The bulgogi was also good with little mushrooms and we made little packages with lettuce and banchan to eat together. It also came with a seaweed soup. The spicy beef with mandu was perfect! It would be amazing on a cloudy or rainy day. There was a hearty amount of mandu and the beef was tender. We loved it with the rice. Will definitely come back for that perfect home cooked meal!

This used to be one of my favorite Korean restaurants but the quality has really gone downhill and the prices doesn't match the portion and quality. Most notably, the soondubu jjigae ($20) was smaller than the size of my hand. I couldn't believe the size when it came out, it was slightly bigger than a bowl of rice. Other restaurants have it in a much bigger stone pot. The jjajangmyeon was very gingery for some reason. This restaurant was known for its banchan but this time the variety was small (also no more marinated raw crabs as a side) and didn't taste fresh.

Kimchi Jjigae, Yukgaejang Kal-guksu

Great food and excellent service. The ban chan was very fresh and had a nice variety of choices. Very tasty and would recommend!

Very much a spot you'd want to go out with your friends to. As I entered, the staff came from the back to the front to greet me which was nice instead of having to walk all the way to the back to get seated. I ordered the Half and Half Korean Fried Chicken which came with Soy Garlic and Sweet & Spicy. The chicken was very crispy, had a nice crunch, while still maintaining its juiciness. The crunchy coating almost acted as a heat retention shielding as the chicken was hot throughout almost the entire time I was eating. The Soy Garlic wasn't overly powerful with either of its flavors which was nice for a change and made it enjoyable to eat. The Sweet & Spicy was absolutely delicious and I wish I ordered more. It was perfectly balanced and addictive to eat. Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to try bb.q chicken! I know it's a chain, but this is some of…read morethe best Korean fried chicken I've had. There are many different sauces to choose from, in addition to other dishes like tteokbokki, ramen, fried rice, etc. We tried the rose tteokbokki and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce had a little kick and was the perfect pairing with our chicken. The chicken wings were excellent! The size of the wings were worth the price, the meat was juicy, and the outside was extra crispy and cooked to perfection. Honey garlic is a nice mild flavor and spicy galbi is a smoky spicy sauce that definitely gives galbi vibes. I also have to add that the service was incredible. We were there on a Saturday night, and the wait staff was on their A game. There was always someone checking in on us, and the food came out QUICK! There are a handful of tables, but I would call in advance if you have a big group so they can plan. You can also make a reservation on Yelp. There are a bunch of TV screens around the restaurant which was perfect for watching March Madness! I'll definitely be back to try more wing flavors!

Updated review as of 6/24/26…read more - ordered 8 pieces spicy original and 8 pieces of soy garlic - wanted to place just one order of 18 pieces with half & half but was told that is not an option. Minus one star for not being able to customize based on preference and that personally felt like it was not worth $1.50 to place two separate orders. Even the manager told us as much as he would have liked to help, not something he could as the owners informed them no. This was something very disappointing as other Korean fried chicken places within town allow you to customize and not charge you extra. - had a side of cheesy sticks, which server informed us it's basically mozzarella sticks, kind of disappointed when it came out as parts of the sticks cold probably from the cheese inside and the crunch on the outside of the cheesy sticks was lacking as well. It felt like biting down on a stale prefrozen sticks that didn't get warmed up enough and definitely not fresh or crispy like it was right out of the fryer. Minus another star from that - ambience was low dimmed lights which really was not appealing from the outside, I thought they were closed when we walked by then walked up saw some people but not very obvious until you're right up to the glass. Inside was chilled cold, like AC and fans all blasting. Which was not expected, had to grab a Columbia Omni heat weather proof jacket, maybe would recommend toning it down when it's in the evening like the last 90 minutes before closing to conserve energy and perhaps turn the lights on brighter to attract customers. Minus another star here. - batter for spicy original was good, the golden standard and chicken was juicy, really would be shocked if this was subpar. Soy garlic didnt hit the spot, the crispiness was more like a glaze that you heat on high heat to let it caramelize then that's it, not much crunch and flavor to it other than that outer layer. So this was disappointing as well.

THE FOOD: - For 2 adults & 2 kids under 6, we ordered: The Fox & The Crow flight of meat, mandu, japchae, & gyeran jjim. This was more than enough food for us & even had leftovers to bring home. The quality of meat was great! You do cook it yourself, unlike some other Korean BBQ places in LA & NYC but that's also part of the authentic experience. I thought the banchan was not wow but decent. I was pleasantly surprised w/ how much I liked their japchae which had the perfect chewy noodle & flavorful so I do recommend getting that w/ ur meats & the steamed egg is good here too. OVERALL TIPS: - Don't be afraid to ask for what you want! We requested lettuce to eat w/ our meat, more banchan & asked for a new grill before we grilled our 3rd meat.
