It was packed on a Friday night. The Coquito Blu Guacamole with tostones and chicharron was delicious. The Coquito Picadera was huge and fed the entire table. The Flatbreads are all good. The Lomo Saltado with filet mignon was so tender and delicious. My group had the Lechoncito and Paella. Both dishes were really good. The Paella was really flavorful and they do not skimp on seafood. Everything we had was great! The servers, food, DJ and Latin band did not disappoint. We will definitely return!!! read more

Coquito Blu - Yuca Mash with Manchego Cheese delicious - Latin American Near Me - Whitestone, New York

Rumor has it that a new Puerto Rican restaurant is in Whitestone! My boyfriend checked out the place a few days before our 10th anniversary (June 8th). He was SO excited to try this "authentic" Puerto Rican Restaurant after a staff member confirmed the place was Puerto Rican. NOPE. Upon our arrival, 3 people came to greet us. It was a little weird, like in an episode of the Twilight Zone, because the place was mostly empty. The server was very friendly and attentive (until the large party arrived) but a bit pushy and invasive. Some would argue that this type of "friendliness" belongs at a local Applebee's, not a "higher-end" restaurant. At one point, the server was so animated that some spittle flew out their mouth. Yikes. When I asked for the price of the lobster "tail" special, she waved her hand and agreed with my boyfriend to forget about the prices. I didn't want to be "that person," so I didn't question further. Cocktails were good but only about 4 - 6 oz and $12 - $16 each. We ordered two appetizers - Trifonguitos (very good though heavily fried) and "brick oven roasted jumbo shrimp." I was shocked when we received 6 shrimp about 1" x 1"! We didn't want to seem cheap, but I couldn't help asking a staff member if this was the jumbo shrimp dish. They answered very matter-of-factly, "YES." I tried again by asking if they knew this was not jumbo shrimp. Answer was, "Yes, but it's bigger than the 1st batch, which was even smaller." I inferred that we should be happy with what we got and not to be cheap. Again, I didn't want to be "that person" so I said, "Maybe don't add "jumbo" to the menu." The staff member said they'd speak to management, but no one came by. The shrimp was not only comically small but was also soaked in oil and way too spicy. For entrees, we ordered the lobster "tail" special and the salmon. As a half-joke, my boyfriend asked if the lobster tail was tiny, and the server said it was big. The lobster "tail" was a loaf/patty with a few pieces of lobster (that we could see). The server saw us looking for the lobster "tail" and informed us that the lobster was chopped up. Thinking we somehow missed this info earlier, we didn't say anything. The salmon was small and very dry, the accompanying asparagus was oily and limp, and the coconut rice was tasty but soggy. The next day, I called to speak to the owner, George. After a week of no response, I called back and spoke to Tonya (the new manager). She apologized for not getting a call back, said she would refund me in cash so there is no chargeback to them (we used a credit card), and invited me back to "change my experience." She did not address my main issue with the shrimp. Tonya made a reservation for the following Wednesday, June 22nd. I thought this was a transparent attempt to grant me a refund only because we'd be returning to spend more money. It turned out my boyfriend had to work late, so I went myself around 5:30 pm. When I arrived, Tonya was very professional and nice. She extended her hand and introduced herself and expressed how disappointed she was that my boyfriend couldn't make it because she was, "... really looking forward to meeting him." Upon realizing that I would not be dining alone, the "warmth" evaporated, and her vibe was instantly hard, judgmental, and accusatory but well-cloaked in "professionalism and friendliness." Honestly, I felt subtly bullied. (1) She tried twice to convince me to dine alone with unrelenting and aggressive eye contact, (2) pointed out that we "consumed" the shrimp (why not mention that before?) in a shaming tone, and (3) made a copy of my ID and had me sign a statement that I received a cash refund (she explained it was to make sure I'd not dispute the charge on our credit card later). Like I'm going through all this trouble for $16; this was about principle. When I reiterated that my boyfriend is Puerto Rican and how disappointed he was, I didn't get far because Tonya interrupted me and made a point (twice) that I, "... stressed that he is Puerto Rican a lot," and I told her that many times before. A bit exaggerated and I don't know what that was about... maybe she wanted to let me know she "caught" me in some ridiculous attempt to use my boyfriend's ethnicity to get a refund. Good catch, Sherlock. I made another attempt to figure out what kind of restaurant they were - authentic Puerto Rican or not? The answer was that it's a Latin restaurant that caters to the demographics of the area, but the chef is 100% Puerto Rican, and traditional dishes like rice and beans are authentic. Lol. Um... okay. Like other reviewers noted, they ran out of many items, and it felt like the place was struggling as if the owners and management never ran a restaurant before. Never returning to Coquito Blu again and I predict they won't be in business long if this is how they treat patrons. read more

The steak was delicious but black beans were bland and flavorless, this place can use more menu items. The drink was good but can't taste the alcohol at all. I would've tipped more but once you add your own tip that's all you'll receive. I hope they improve on the menu items. Place is nice but way too dark inside. I don't know what they are trying to achieve but just have more options and the place will be rockin. read more

I want to share how unprofessional and the lack of service this place has. Prior to arriving to the location I called the previous day to reserve a table for 10. Their social media page stated that they had a "Teachers Happy Hour on Thursday and Friday from 3-7PM". When I called and spoke to a lady the night before she clearly stated that she would have a table for us to attend. I was not informed of the "Happy Hour Policy" or the "Time limitation". When I arrived on Friday Sept. 15 with all the Teachers, I informed the waiter that I had called and the lady I spoke to told me to come in at 3 PM that they would have a table for me and not to worry. I also reached out to someone I knew from the place (Mr. Henry) to inform him that I was going to bring in 10 Teachers. The waiter which was extremely passive aggressive informed me that they do not open until 4 PM, that the kitchen was closed and that we would all have to sit in the bar. After going back and forth with him about who I spoke with he finally let us sit on the table and attempted to get out orders. However, He proceeded to give us a time limit informing us that we had 90 minutes to order, eat and drink. Mind you the place was completely empty. After this he repeatedly asked if we were going to eat as well but it had to be from the normal menu. As professionals we all know and have some respect with our customers. One thing for sure is my staff at the school drink, eat and also of course we would have to dine there as well if we were given the time to do so. I have never felt so humiliated and embarrassed in front of my school staff members in my life. I am a constant planner of events and I usually go out often with friends and coworkers to different restaurants and we have always been treated with respect, courtesy and empathy. I am really saddened to see that this place is so unreliable. Please do not count on their social media IG page because it clearly was fake news. After going back and forth with the waiter and realizing that everything was a problem to him I decided and refused to spend money in this place. I informed my teachers that we would be going somewhere else in Bayside. Thankfully we did because we had no issues whatsoever. We were given a table without a problem, we were able to split the bill without a problem, we were not given a time limit and the waiter was so wonderful and welcoming. Its extremely sad that a place that is so beautiful inside would provide this type of service to educators who literally live day by day to provide and educate the children from the community and boroughs in NYC. read more

I am only writing this review so the management can make changes because I've been here several times and the food is tasty. The issue we had was the service. It was Father's Day weekend and we expected it to be busy however what we experienced as well as others who sat near us was below standard. We had a reservation and we didn't get seated until 45 min later. We were patient and wasn't too upset about it again given it was a holiday weekend. However it is what took place after. We sat at our table for another 30 minutes before a waitress came to us. I asked several waitress that passed by and they stated they would get us our waitress. Our waitress , when she finally came made a general apology and she just seemed annoyed the whole experience. We put in both our appetizers and dinner choices as well as our drinks all at once because we knew it probably take a long time due to what we experienced already. It took another 20 minutes to get our drinks and another 30 minutes to get appetizers . The people next to us were also upset and after they received their appetizers decided to leave without even eating dinner because they didn't want to wait anymore . There was another couple next to us who never got any food and they decided to leave after about 45 min of waiting. After getting our appetizer finally , our dinner came out about 30 minutes later. I like the food there but am reconsidering about going again. While I was waiting for our food, I decided to look at previous reviews and it seems this is an area this establishment needs to work on. read more

The bartender absolutely SUCKS. She does not ever remember your order and then forgets to put it in. When we sat down, my son ordered a drink... it came out incorrectly. This place is SPECTACULAR! Between the drinks, the food, the staff, I have zero complaints! For all those previous reviewers that are complaining about something - DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM! I had the seafood mofongo and I truly believe it was THE best I ever had! The seafood was cooked perfectly. The mofongo was a garlicky masterpiece. I was part of a group and was able to try all their dishes as well. The Lechon was crispy and full of flavor. The churassco, tender & delicious! The bistec was cooked to perfection and it came with the best fries and two little small cast iron pots filled with rice and beans-so cute! The drinks! They are exactly what is necessary in this time! Savory & perfect. The house mixologist came over with a drink she whipped up, which I called "Vacation In A Glass". One big fish bowl filled with a miraculous concoction of relaxation & paradise! It was just that fantastic! So again, for all those saying "it took too long" - this isn't a fast food joint. If you want your food in 2 mins, the Golden Arches is next door. Now if you care to have a culinary experience that you won't soon forget, this is THE place! read more

Coquito Blu - The seafood tower and steak, shrimp on plantains! So dreamy! - Latin American Near Me - Whitestone, New York

My parents came here once for brunch they loved it. I decided to finally give it a try for dinner. First impression was I knew the kitchen was slowing everyone else down. You can read the room some people at their tables had food and others did not. Table next to me was waiting for their to go order at 7:30pm, they ordered at 6:15pm. The bus boys do not set up the servers for success. No silverware no water glasses no plates no napkins. We didn't have plates or utensils until after our appetizer. They don't pre bus helping servers clear off plates in preparation for next course. They were huddled talking. Our server Skye was a sweetheart I felt her pain she was running around. She had tables outside and inside on the OPPOSITE side of the restaurant. Managers need to be more hands on and doing table touches not only when there already is a problem. Food was good my steak was very over cooked but it had flavor. Sauces so good. The best thing was the yuca mash. My bf got the salmon which was very good. Everything was flavorful. In pictures you can see we didn't have any napkins at all and our first round of drinks and app plates still there. 2nd round of mules tasted like Arizona iced teas and my boyfriend went inside to ask the bartender to fix them. Service and time management for everything needs work. I'd go back when they get it together . read more

I was truly excited to try this new hotspot in Whitestone! We waited months for it to open and we finally got to experience it. When you walk in, the ambience is very chill. The staff is very attentive and helpful. For a place that gives the impression of being a Latin spot, the music and vibe is not at all Latin. The food was good, but could have had a little more flavor. Latin food is know for being flavorful and I think they played it safe and went light with the seasoning. I'm not saying the food tasted bad at all, but at the same time I was expecting more. The lechoncito boricua was pretty fatty and had more of a gamy taste, and not very well seasoned. The skin could have honestly been a little more crunchy. The portion was more fat than meat. Maybe next time I can ask for it to be extra well done. The appetizers were delicious and the drinks were really good! We really appreciated our waitress, Diana, for her on point recommendations. She was super down to earth and honest. The prices were a bit pricey for the small portions that were served, but that was to be expected. I will probably only be back for appetizers and drinks! read more

Highly disappointed with Coquito blu. I raved about this establishment not only on social media but to all my friends and family. I made a reservation via their website on 5/27/23 on the same day that they announced El gran combo would be performing. I received confirmation that my reservation was booked (pics attached). I received a call from Diana (super nice lady) on 6/8/23 (day before my reservations) stating they had no availability for the time slot I made reservations for; that they could accommodate me at an earlier time. I explained that I reserved an 8:30pm time because it's Friday and we would not be able to make it earlier to the restaurant. I actually had plans to add 2 more guests to my reservation. Diana said for 10 ppl with a deposit of 50 pp she would try and see if they could accommodate us at 9pm. I called her and the restaurant a few times and around 10:20pm I was informed they could not accommodate my party. Reservations were made almost 2 weeks in advance! I've been to Coquito blew a few times and have never had an issue with reservations made via their website. I was told that reservations are not guaranteed regardless if you receive email and Tex confirmation unless someone from their establishment calls you to confirm. I've never had verbal confirmation with my previous reservations. I know it's not Diana's fault but whether it was a glitch in their system or a mess up on their behalf for double booking they should have found a way to honor my reservations. Very disappointing and distasteful. I was left scrambling looking for another establishment to accommodate my party of 10 to celebrate my sister's anniversary. Hopefully this doesn't happen again to other patrons. I love supporting Latin owned restaurants, especially those with authentic PR cuisine but this experience definitely left myself and rest of my party very disappointed. read more

Highly recommend this Latin fusion restaurant on Francis Lewis Blvd!! -- cool addition to the neighborhood. Conquito Blu is definitely a must try. Went on a Friday night with a party of 11. We tried so many things including a variety of meals & drinks from the menu. No one had a negative experience or compliant. The restaurant was clean, had a fun young vibe and even a live DJ playing cool music in the background. The DJ played some modern songs and classic house hits. We had the pleasure of trying a variety of different appetizers, meals, alcoholic drinks and desserts; everything was delicious. Special kudos to server Skylin!! I normally don't write reviews but felt that this place needed it. I did see previous reviews on what mine is going to entail but I had a credit with the restaurant and wanted to use it. I went on a Thursday night hoping that service would be better considering it wasn't busy. My reservation was for 8pm, the drinks and appetizer came at decent timing but when it came to 9pm, the waitress asked for our second order of drinks and wasn't even going to put in our entree order had we not told her we were ready. By 9:40pm, we still have not received our food and the staff was already bringing in the outdoor furniture and getting ready to go home because closing is at 10pm. The waitress then decides to come to tell me that it won't be possible for me to get the yuca mash with my skirt steak and to pick another side. I picked yuca fries instead and that seemed to be possible. (How can one be made but not the other?) I ordered medium well steak and it came medium, and the yuca fries were undercooked and very hard. At that point, I felt no need to rush because it seemed like our order was never put in and we wouldn't have been there that long if it wasn't for the poor service. read more

You gotta suck so bad to get a one star rating! Let me walk you through this. Walked in hostess looked at us like we had 7 heads umm hello we'd like to be seated. She seats us and we wait & wait & wait 20 minutes so the hub goes in to ask for a server to come to our table. Then she comes friendly enough knowledgeable but then good luck seeing her again. We ordered 2 apps and 2 drinks to start. Please explain to me how our apps come out before our drinks. Then we have our food but no utensils, no napkins nada! Finally she comes with our drinks someone else brought out the apps. Food was cold did I mention that! Drinks were good so that's 1 star. Also don't be fooled by the name 1 Puerto Rican dish and 1 PR app. Now onto the apps! Filet minion skewers 4 tiny pieces of tough meat! It was cut against the grain so it was chewy. The Sarullitos needed salt sugar maybe some more cheese they were dry. The cheese fondue had solidified. What a wasted opportunity to make this a great restaurant! So over priced tiny portions plating basic and then they add gratuity to your bill. So why does the server need to earn the tip they're getting it anyway. Trust me I won't be returning! read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant. The drinks were amazing, and the ambiance is nice but the food was just not good. Very high priced for the amount you get. Someone I was with got the Salmon and it was the smallest piece of salmon I have ever seen (for $32). But the rice that came with it was good. I chose the Lenchoncito Boricua, which is the roasted pork, and it was hard and flavorless. Even the rice it came with had no flavor at all. Not sure how a simple puerto rican dish can be messed up. All the apps we ordered were just ok, nothing I would recommend. The desserts were actually good. We tried the coconut flan and the dulce de leche cheesecake. I hope they figure it out and get better food wise, but for now, I would just recommend going for drinks alone. read more

Came here for our 30th anniversary and although our waitress, Alma, was amazing, the experience did not meet our expectations. They need to hire more staff to attend to the tables. We waited forever for our entrees and they were the wrong orders. Then, we waited some more for our second, and then third, drinks. We had to get up and ask for the check when we were ready to leave. The food was ok, the drinks were better, but watching other people leave before they were served was a red flag when we got there. If you have nothing better to do and have time to spend, this is the place but when you have a 2-party table and spend three hours on a dinner, you may want to go elsewhere as we had to hunt people down for our drinks and for our check. read more
