I called Payless Water Heater & Plumbing and the 'technician' (mind you not a licensed plumber)attempted to light the pilot but was not able to. He said the gas control valve needs to be replaced. He said it would take about 45 minutes and it would be a charge of $629. The water heater is still under warranty so that price is only labor!!!! I called a licensed plumber, he took his time and was able to light pilot; hot water is on and no repair required ... What a racket this company is!!! Who makes $629 for 45 minutes of work .... They came to our home and within 2 minutes was giving me a quote of $17.5k. Didn't look at the pipes or listen to me at all. I told them I didn't need the kitchen pipes redone, only the bathrooms, and he told me kitchen pipes are always they worst, so we'll do that, too. He said they'd tunnel 6 ft under the foundation of the property, putting someone completely under the house without looking at how it was built or the current state of it. When I asked him questions he was clearly annoyed with me. We've had lead pipes in places, but when I asked about it he said we have good water pressure so I don't need to worry about lead. That makes no sense. After that I stopped asking because I figured we would just be wasting time. I knew at that point I wasn't using this company. They never sent me an estimate or followed up at all. Every red flag in the book. I'd be very careful with this company.
